I think he meant in the ss bowl not the stem. I do that but am careful and do it upside down. It is hard to get the ss clean sometimes. I actually broke a piece of brillo off last week to do it as it was stained with what I do not know. I ended up with brillo pieces in my hands and on the bed so then had to check my legs for it since I can't feel it ugh it was a mess that I will never do again.

Hmmm, I wouldn't use brillo to clean there, if surface gets scratched it will become harder to clean.
You just got to be careful not to put anything inside your stem that can fall out easily.
I always check before putting the stem inside the Solo.
You can use the backside of a pen or anything like that to compact the load so nothing falls out.
In case you use oily hash like Afghan or Nepal be sure to make a sandwich with herbs on top so the oily stuff doesn't come in contact with the bowl directly.

It happened from regular herb and I tried to get it out with iso q-tip and also the end of a pin but it wouldn't move. I did it soft and it is all clean now. It was the first time it happened in all these months. Even the soft scrubbing pad didn't do it. I have no idea what it was and I use the same herbs so maybe it was just charred or something. As per your advice I won't do it again but I wasn't going to anyhow causes of the injury to me from the metal.

How bad is it to let the battery discharge fully? I think I did it once when I first received the unit a few days ago, because I wasn't reading the indicator properly.

You have all the tools already .
Try putting a fine screen in the chamber , and then stick an iso q-tip on top of the screen .
Do a swirling/mopping of the SS chamber , it works like a charm .

and @ argo100 ,
I've actually used it to the point where the Red charge light stayed on ,
and the indicator level lights started dropping , I turned it off when it reached 3 .
I've only done it a few times , you know , I was trying to squeeze out a few more hits .
Before I could reach home to an outlet .

I knew I got the idea from somewhere poon...I guess I equated your screen idea with brillo being the same. I pretty much did that but with the brillo which I now know not to do again. I will use a small screen and hope it works if it happens again. I figured they are both metal and I used a soft brillo no name from the dollar store so I doubt I did any damage.

You mean like the indicator lights started going out? Mine literally would not turn on anymore because I discharged it.

I'm going to order a PVHES stem soon (when available) and have a couple questions for you experts.

The situation: I vape solo, not huge amounts at a time. I use the straight stock 4 hole stem with a screen because I was getting tons of material pulling through. I get about 2 sessions per bowl.

The PVHES Shorty Turbo is standing out to me now. The short bowl seems good for my usage, and the turbo easy pull sounds great. Pulling hard on the stock stem seems to pull too much shit into my lungs and I feel it the next day.

The questions:
Is the turbo a pain to maintain? Can you fit in other screens or would I have to keep going back to buy more from PV?

For my vaping habits does the shorty turbo seem like the right choice?

There's nothing special about the PV screens, they are just what PV have deemed their preferred screen.

You can get other screens from eBay or a LHS with no issues - you might end up with screens that are too big, but they can be easily trimmed down.

I would think the turbo would be one of the easier stems to clean, since it should be easy to get a pipe cleaner or similar in both sides of the bowl.

The turbo isn't gonna reduce any amount of particulate you get, I'd think it would probably increase a bit compared to a stock stem, but either stem setup with a screen would lead to less particulates than stock stem without screen IMO.

It's really easy to clean and maintain, I love mine. You can buy the screens you want and cut them really easily with a nail cutter.

I think the shorty would be perfect for your habits.

Yes , it dropped from 6 to 5 within seconds and then soon to 4 ...etc .
I'm sure if I'd let it go down to zero , it would not turn on either .

I'm not saying I recommend doing that .
I'm just telling you that I have done that in the past .
Knock on wood....everything's still fine .

The Solo rocks ,
How's your smell issue ? Is it getting better ?

I've used mine till it wouldn't turn on anymore...thought I broke it! It's fine though...I've now taken to charging when i finish a sesh or 2. Just waiting for PV to restock gongs so I can get that and a PA in one shot.
Thinking about getting more stems too. The bent one I've been using(haven't used the straight) goes in normal but seems to get really loose once it heats up. Almost like the glass rim that pops it in place is disappearing over time with all the heating and cooling maybe? It's definitely not as snug as it used to be. I also do "play" with it while I hit it sometimes pulling it up/down to adjust a little maybe that's the culprit. I'm hoping it really is the stem and not the Solo itself that is the cause. Anyone else have this happen?

Yes , this seems to be a normal pattern with loose stems , once the Solo is heated .
I've actually been accustom to vaping with my index finger steadying the stem .
The glass stem still fits in snugly when the Solo is cold .

finally my solo arrived yesterday from amazon, here some thoughts:

-it's smaller and sturdy that i thought!
-if i don't grind too much, i don't need to use the screen, and nothing go to my throat.
-the draw is a little hard to take (4 holes stock straw), compared to my eq, but less than I thought reading the posts here on the forum.
-i do 3-4 complete cycle at 7 for burn off the factory residue
-i have 1 extra straight straw and 1 extra bent straw (plus 1 minigrinder) as extra gifts
-i only used for one and a half 12m session (so 18 minutes), because with the burn off cycle, the battery go down pretty quickly...
-The flavour is pretty good, at same level of my EQ, maybe a little weaker...
- the vapor at 3-4-5 level is not to harsh, then at level 6-7 is almost like joint style (i like it)
-unfortunate the temperature reaches only 210 degrees C, i'm too much spoil well with my eq that comes to 260 C.

Any tips and tricks?

260C is combustion, please understand that combustion starts at 236C - When I was a noob I did 250-260 and actually managed to combust with my EQ and had to throw my tubing and elbow as it smelled like shit. - 210C is perfect end temperature IMO, I can assure you that the solo takes every last cloud so when you don't see anything, the herb is done.

You don't need to grind really much and you can pick the flower with your bare hands but if you do use a screen you'll be able to maximize the usage.

Flavor is much better than EQ- IMO.

3-4 Complete cycles on "7" is a lot.

About drawing, if you want more airflow grab a wood stem or the PVHES stem, or pull your stock stem just few mm from the herb chamber and you'll have a much better airflow...

I agree with mOsH!

I LOVE the flavor of the SOLO.
Try it through a water path!
Level 4 is the range I prefer.

I just received mine as well and had these same exact thoughts minus the extra straws ;)

Yeah I found if I ground up my material too much it would go through the holes. I tried putting cotton in there but it was sucking up all the vapor up, that bastard! :argh:

But definitely I'm pleased with the yield of vapor, it's a powerful little sucker! I own a DBV myself and although it can't produce clouds as easily as the DBV it definitely can compare in production. I will be more than happy to lend it to my girlfriend and have the Solo as a go to vape for Spring quarter :D

Mosh, i never use the 260 C during the vaporization, max 230 C and no combustion, i know the rule:D!
With the solo, i start at 2 (1-2 hit), 3 ( 3-4 hit) 4 (2-3 hit) 5 (2-3 hit) and the final 1-2 hit at 6 or 7!
The flavor is good, but i never use the same weed (street weed so...) and i'm a little fuck up with the flavor...
The screens and a pvhes are future purchase for sure!
I do many burn cycles at 7 because i read in this topic that the latest model suffer about persistent factory smell, so i cut the problem on top and seems to work fine, no chemical taste or flavor!
The high seems to be better and last much more compared to EQ (i don't know why).
For now i'm very very happy! and with the bowl in the straw thing i can take with me 4 home-made recharge of pot for the outdor use, just fill the bowl, press a little bit, then put a little cap on it and put in a minibag and i'm ready to vape!
Please explain to me the "pull up the straw for a better airflow tecnique", thanks!

Pull up the straw meaning, mess around with the straw inside the Solo. Notice how there's better airflow at different straw insertion heights? Play around with that and heat

Also I noticed how friggin easy it is to use this bad boy! Turn it on, pack the stem, insert the stem, and draw. Nothing to it compared to desktop models trying to be portable.

The eq with the cyclone is pretty simple too, and when i have to stir the herb, i take the entire elbow\cyclone thing and i shake it, so stir without the stir...unfortunate the cyclone don't work well like the elbow pack...oh and thanks for the straw tips!

Well I attempt to use my DBV as a portable unit, I take it with me everywhere man. Turn on, while waiting to heat up I fill wand, pack, tubing. Then turn to 12 and vape. This thing is turn on, fill, wait, and start. Much quicker than the DBV too!
