herb chamber is different than herb cart...?

Yes, he caught me on that too and had to explain. Let me see if I can recall, herb chamber is bigger than herb cart. If not, the other way about.

Has anyone figured out a solvent-less way to make concentrates for the Omicron??? I know there was talk about it a long time ago, but never really heard anything after that.
:science:

Goddamn, the trade in deal for the V2 is going to cost a CA resident over 57 dollars, not including their own shipping, which includes 2.99 "handling" fee. I gotta start looking for change lost in the couch, that's alot of cash - this much would get you a Low Voltage revolution upper and adapter threading so you could just use your current Omi indefinitely, for instance.'

It is nice how the new kit includes two batteries though.

You're lucky it's only $57. I'm in Canada. It would cost me about $80.
Or I could just buy one from planet vape for $120.....

Ouch! I didn't even think about international consumers.

Hang in there ,word is (real good feeling ,that is) all goodies (kits ,etc) should be available for the holidays ,or` at least confirmed up/down by then ~ this way one can determine if the trade-ion costs are` worthwhile (May 1st xchange deadline will prolly be extended for month or so ,no worries w/ this outfit ~ personally ,would take gamble that upgrade kit xchange will be cost effective/competitive ,if national (Canadians`might want to deal locally ,unless THC can make special international rates ) ~ if it's at all possible ,me believes THC will always` bend in favor of customer (customers' always right ,most of the time ,eh ,eh)

I'm still on my 1st cart / 1st 1.5g of concentrate. :)
I was using the omi as a daily driver for the first week to test it out, now it's my stealth out-and-about vape/ my 2 quick hits before sleep vape.
I'm sure if I had access to some of the cheaper concentrates you guys have in medical states, it would be a whole 'nother story.

How long should the concentrate be ok in the cart?
I just keep it at room temp.

Not to my knowledge.. in any cost-effective method, that is.

Reason:
Without a solvent, the outer shell of the trichome stays intact as a solid. You need a mesh screen that will allow chunks (however small) to pass through it to harvest heads. Any plant matter the size of said resin head will get through the filtering process as well and contaminate the final product. Solvents liquefy the oils and let them pass through a fine filter.

Sublimation -> condensation is the only method I can think of (Aka pure wand hash). I've seen someone make a video on an easy way to do this with a globe vape, but can't remember the link, nor do I think it'd be as good as a non-polar solvent with a good purge.

what is a dual coil cartomizer?

At the risk of sounding simple, a cartomizer with two coils. In our case, Omicron has two heaters (coils), one wound around the outside of the furnace body to heat and feed the oil to the second inside the furnace where it is vaped away. If either dies, the cart is dead. You can see the second 'down the tube' when new, after that it rapidly gets covered up with oil and deposits. You can't see the first one.

dual coil cartomizers are used for ecigs, they usually have a stuffing inside wrapped around the coils to absorb the liquid nicotine, and are not at all the same as the omicron carts. They can have single or double coils inside (dual coil). You can do a google search to learn more.

OK, guys, this is the first time (posting a photo) for me, so please be gentile? This goes against my Luddite nature, but I've got a photo (another tool of the devil....) for your consideration and it's about time I learned how to do this task that any school kid seems to be able to do with either hand while texting with the other.

The photo is of a disassembled cart that died a slow death in it's third gram. It's a months old 2.4 Ohm cart from an Omicron V1.X. This was otherwise very nice 69% East Coast Sour Diesel oil from Harborside. It got slower and slower until I finally gave up and drained the last out and started over with a new cart. Instant success. The cause of the problem is easy to see:

omicron1.jpg

What you see is the bottom of the furnace body on the left, with the bulk heater wound around the outside. Rotated out of place (it goes into the slot at the bottom of the body with the wire inside) is the main or vaporizing heater. The ends of the wick stick out the slots into the area outside where the bulk heater is (and all the hot oil waiting to feed). The vaporizing heater is wound around the wick in the center. It's under that big old scab made up of the junk in the oil that has deposited there when the other stuff vaped away. There's the junk from almost 3 grams there, toward the end all the vapor had to be blowing up the pores in the surface like some strange moon around Saturn or a comet too close to the sun. The deposit is quite hard, it's been soaked in ISO for a while and had a couple runs through the ultrasonic sink. Notice the oil drawn from the wick.

The bottom is sealed with a rubber disk of material like the mouthpiece with a hole for the lower tube to enter. This seal is the one that most often causes grief. If the oil gets past it along the wick the only way out is down into the socket from there unless you're right there and suck it out the top. Not much better, really.

As I see it there's no way to stop this (short of better oils and this one was pretty darn good) or remove it once it's there. This means the carts will not only die eventually but they will degrade getting there. I'm thinking it's like oil in your car, you need to buy more and change it out before it breaks down?

Anyway, I also thought you guys might like to see what it looks like inside.

WTF! OF, posted a picture! Not bad at all for your first picture uploaded, great job! That crud left on the wick, looks like the the left over residue on some oils when using a vapor swing. I took one cart apart and your picture made me want to take it apart more heh.

Thank you for your service in clearing your pic posting hurdles, OF! I've always been curious to see a dead wick, as I've suspected oil builds up there. I've noticed once the cart starts weighing below the 8.4g mark, the concentrate starts to taste worse, and the potency starts to drop. Around 8.3g, I just consider the cart done and refill or reuse as needed.

On an aside, one of the biggest knocks I've had against the omicron is the rubber mouthpiece. It looks ok when it's new, but after only 10 pulls, it starts to yellow, and with little splats of oil inside, it starts looking downright gross - a huge turnoff when I have the omi out and about with me and have a group of 215 friends to share with. They're reluctant to puff it once they see the brown oil and the stained mouthpieces.

Drove up to vapor den in berkeley, picked up some 510 compatible delrin drip tips. They fit mostly fine in the omi carts, but they bottom out when they hit the bridge, and doesn't quite "sit" properly. It wobbles a bit. Simple fix though, I brought the delrin tips home and milled about 0.5mm of the metal off the bottom. Now it sits in teh omi cart nice and wobble-free, solid and tight, no leaks, great air seal, and best of all, no staining! Got a black one and a silver one, and I find the silver one matches the omicron nicely. Here's a pic for your hemming and hawing pleasure....

Very nice kertong, I've been using the MFLB stem mod on one of my mouthpieces, and so far it hasn't stained at all.

It gives me bigger hits, and they taste a little bit better without the yellowed mouthpiece adding its own dimension.

Now I just need to get a glass tube instead of acrylic.

they have tips that are like that for the omicron carts now on delta9's website. cut to fit specifically for them shorter and wider inner circumference to stop clogging. after the mflb style was posted i started the glass dropper/rubber combo if you don't have an mflb and that works for training wheels. it also goes over the mouthpieces so you can use both at the same time to meet all your needs.

Yup. I bet it would leave the same junk behind there too (I don't use one, so it's a guess). If it doesn't evaporate off, it stays behind.....seems simple.

The photo thing is OK I guess. I had browser issues about the same time that made it way more trouble than it should have been. I'm not sure about being worth 10 kilowords or anything, but it does have uses I guess? I might even do it again sometime....

Kertong,

Thanks for the encouragement, but don't hold your breath for my posting vacation photos or anything soon. I assume you meant to say you milled Delrin off the bottom of the Delrin mouthpieces, not metal? As I think I've said a few times, be sure you don't get an oil backed seal on the bridge around the tube so it can't vent the tank. Pressure will build and pump the oil out when you're not looking.....trust me on this....

Love the labels, I did that at first but found they were hard to read sometimes. I fired up Word and printed out labels with name, type, percentage and so on which I cut out and attach with a wrap of tape. Much better contrast, easier to read and neater than my writing. Not that the last means much, LOTS of stuff is neater than my writing. Spelled better, usually as well.

Lastly, ain't the Blue Dream SM neat?

What Ohm cart? just remember that all different Ohm carts weight different. so I would weigh then all before you fill'em :)

Ah, good to know the ones on delta9 are cut specifically for the omicron. :) Going to order a few now..

I've found one problem with these mouthpieces/driptips, and experienced the same problem on the persei. When you push them all the way to the bottom, the oil that comes out of the flue just sticks and pools up, collects, and ends up in your mouth sometimes. I fixed it by taking a few different drill bits to the hole at the bottom to create a concave dome inward, so that there is ample space around the flue, and the circumference of this dome extends past the edges of the bridge so all the oil should drain back down into the cart properly.

@druminfected: I believe it is the stock 2.4ohm one, the ones they sell at the dispensaries for the omicron v1. Sorry, I haven't been caught up on the v.2 omicron, just starting to realize I should specify what omicron and cart I am using. :) But yeah, I've been trying a few different things and I have a feeling I am heating the filling tip too much and burning off terpenes prematurely, or something. Tried a cart with a much slower gentler fill, and seems to be hitting well so far, we shall see how it goes :D

@OF: You must be psychic, because sometime while you made that post, I was pulling out little dabs of black oil from the insides of the mouthpiece - for the exact reasons you mentioned. As I mentioned above though, drilling a wider circumference into it, with a domed ceiling high enough to just crest the top of the cart, seems to do the trick nicely. :) And yes - the blue dream supermelt from harborside is one of my consistent favorites. Tastes great, melts well. Mmmmm. Their afgooey supermelt is the indica equivalent if you ask me, it is just as wonderful but with the heavier indica effect. Lovely, just lovely. :D

Haha, that is awesome! I haven't run into any local omi heads yet, but I do have mine with me 24/7 :D There was one moment where the wife and I were catching a flick at the san jose capitol drive in theatres, and I was sitting in the passenger seat puffing away all sneakylike with the omicron. About 5 minutes later I hear someone coughing up a massive fit, and I look over to see the passenger of another car coughing up a lung (to the point he was shaking the car), while his driver's face was illuminated orange from the lighter, revealing the O-face with the O sealed firmly to at least a 2 foot bong. Ha! So much for being discrete, haha.
