Sorry done editing I promise! Just straight dmm (10A limit) from negative battery to the inside threading of the top, while the postive of the batteries made contact with the head. Could very well be a loose connection or the switch limiting the current, the imr's can put out 10a+ I think

Cool. Thanks for the additional details. I still think your number is artificially low, here's why:

To measure current, the DMM (which in fact can only measure voltage) has to use a shunt (low value resistor) in series with the current. The meter then measures the voltage drop across it (a measure of current via Ohm's law) and reports that value as a correctly scaled current. Changing ranges changes these resistors. The top range one is probably a piece of heavy wire inside the front panel or on the PCB between common and the special 'high current' jacks. Typically they are 'trimmed' (calibrated) with some solder on the side as the exact value is hard to control. The size is chosen so at full range the full range of the basic meter is met, 200mV. At ten amps, 100 mV is 'lost' on this resistor. BTW, the 10 Amp limit is time related, you can go to 20 for a second or two without issues.

There's also more resistance added through the leads and connections. All this adds up to more resistance (most likely) than normal, therefore lower current. Typical numbers for the leads are hundreds of miliohms, most of an ohm happening sometimes. Does your lowest range ohms scale say 00.0 when the leads are shorted? Doubtful. This last is why.

If you have another meter handy (or can borrow one) there are two easy ways to back this out and get a solid reading. One is to measure the voltage drop on the meter by probing the minus terminal of the battery and the shell of the battery, position not important since there will be trivial currents in this circuit. Then use that number to back 8.4 Volts off. The other way is to put a second current meter in the circuit, note the new current, then remove the first and scale using the difference in readings. I suspect this effect is important and might explain some of the loss. Some of it is, of course, the internal resistance of the battery in play causing it to 'sag' under load, but we can't get to the positive side to make this reading easily.

Fun indeed, couldn't find an actual specified resistance from the manufacturer, just 10a +/- 10ma resolution, "%2 of reading + 5 digits" accuracy

You will be able to regulate voltage on it.

Yes using the pass through (aka The Reactor) you can regulate the voltage on it. The range is not set in stone but we looking at 3.7v all the way up to 7.4v or maybe even 8.4v. We will see.


Another nice little option to be named later will be coming on The Reactor.

Yup, now you know what it is and how it happens. Sometimes it's even worse, a lager than needed resistor (wire) is used and just tapped off at the magic spot (plus or minus those two percent...). Meaning there's more in there than needs to be.

You can also see why the spec gets so loose, it's a labor issue against high cost for 'real' parts.

In some applications the shunt is somewhere else. Like measuring the starter motor current in your car. You'd bolt it in with heavy cable and run fine wires out. The standard is 50 mV for full scale to cut the 'insertion loss'. If you have a sensitive enough meter you can also do tricks like reading the voltage drop across the battery case (negative battery current flows through it....).

Fun indeed. And you can even get paid for it, under the right conditions of course.

Got a bad cartridge in my 5 pack of 5 Ohms. Good thing I made sure it worked before loading it up, what steps do I need to do to get an exchange, submit ticket again THC?

UPDATE:
tried to prime a 5ohm and didn't see any red at all, but tried with 8.4 real quick and it lit up so nevermind and ignore this

Where you checking them on 3.7v? If so yeah you could die of old age before you see a glow...

Yes, those are the ones. They are definitely 'off chart' in this application and the capacity takes a serious hit because of it. Likewise, total service life (cycles) will no doubt be lowered. This 'pushing the envelope' is why the 900 mAh version and others that look more attractive aren't.

TV reviewed then tested a bunch of batteries along the way.....in fact testing is still on going (wink, wink).

They will fit, as far as working? cant comment, but what i can comment is that it will not charge in the Persei Charger, or the Omicron Charger.

We are getting closer on the nail cart Hopefully we will have a prototype soon.

Well all testing is good on paper, all calculations work, now time to build it and see what happens.


All parts are custom so it will take a few. Even the heating element is custom.

Then again all of the parts work wonderful under stress and will last a long time, but what will happen if we combine them, and throw some oil on it? That is the question. Time to hit the nail with the Hammer and do more testing.

I don't see it as "if" but rather "when", because I'll never be dealing with the if part. It'll be a done deal or I won't be seeing it. I'm confident you're doing your homework without checking......

Oh i know its when, but the If part is what keeps me going. I dont like a " I cant do it attitude" So the more i say If i can get it to work, the harder i will make it happen.

Understood. You're trapped with two hats, one Engineer, one Artist. That calls for motivation where you find it. And like that fabled goose, we want those golden eggs.

Please don't change 'the secret recipe', whatever you're doing now is working just fine. Go with it.....
