Update on this: I checked the balls and they were brown so I torched them off till they were white. It has definitely helped but I still get a weird unpleasant aftertaste that I never used to get. Has anyone got any other suggestions please?

I keep it fairly clean, i give it a whipe down while its warm with kitchen roll and cotton buds every few days, it leans up the reclaim nice and easily and deep I clean in ISO every week.

I was planning on ordering the V2 but i dont want to risk the same think happening and not know how to fix it. I am pretty new to manual DHVs and havent really had much exoerience with one outside of the tempest
Is it the same flower? As if its different you'll get different results with taste and clouds even with the same strain it may vary depending on how dry etc it is.

Tried changing the screen? I found even with an iso soak and clean the screens still needed replaced every so often.

Yeah I am using the exact same flower. It has been performing the same in my screwball.

I will give that a try. I did change it recently though and it looks pretty clean still.
Wand batteries maybe?
I dont think it will be my batteries because I basically change the temp on my wand to heat till the click and adjust as the batteries die

Something similar happened to me with many butane vaporizers sometimes in the past. And, at least in my case, it has always been for cleaning in a hurry (let's say).
If you “squeeze” the load a lot, in the long run, that popcorn smell can stay in the vaporizer, it is not something exclusive to the tempest. (It is more noticeable when you accidentally combust with a butane vape).
To prevent it, I usually smell the vaporizer parts when I clean them (it sounds weird, yes :freak:). If I notice that it still smells, I clean it again, I leave it in iso longer (or if I reuse iso to submerge it, then I use a sprayer with clean iso after the iso bath + hot water).
Let's say it's like the smell of tobacco on clothes, you need to remove it. I'm not saying that you clean badly or anything like that, but, is it possible that it's this? Does the condenser smell like popcorn after cleaning?

Maybe i’m just a maniac

Did someone say “pls try it with the inductor”?

I dont use to like to do RTL. I didnt want to do RTL. But the inductor is hard to tame sometimes. I have to try it with less power…or more, I dont really know  I should experiment more. But i can say the v2 is better with the inductor than the v1 (i think it is just because the thicker layer).
Blasted.

I will give thay a try cheers. I'll let it sit in ISO overnight and see how it is tomorrow

Try it around 340 C
Thanks very much, I was gonna start upping it a notch on each bowl this evening, but that's saved me some bud.
Working very well on that with a little fine tuning on the airports to be done.

ISO isn't actually that great at cleaning if it's really bad or gunked up in my experience, get one of those white 'magic sponges' used for cleaning, stuff that into the bowl after you've cleaned it with ISO, you'll be amazed at how much crap is still in it.

If mine ends up really gunked, or has a whiff that won't go away, it gets a quick scrub and clean in ISO to get the easy stuff off, then dunked and left in a jar of sugar soap, leave it in that for 30 mins, I can see the brown stuff floating about that's been lifted off the metalware when I go back to it....
Thin bottle brushes and those magic sponges or a cheap alternative, they'll bring it all back up to an amazing shine with sugar soap, or like mine, it shows up every single tiny scratch and mark....😂

Not related....

Spent more time with the 2 this evening, using low strength meds....
Starting to find a spot with the settings where I've reduced the irritation a bit when using the stem.
The head is open a crack, and the stem is open at the small notch, and a little of the bigger hole too. Brenyo suggested 340c° using the glass adapter, so I ran it till auto shut off, all of this worked really well.
Feeling happier about the stem now.

Agreed, ISO isn't a great solvent, being a polar solvent. Non-polar solvents like petroleum spirits work much better but are rather toxic. Iso is actually not very toxic at all! The best stuff to use is the 99% grade, as there's the least amount of water in it, water reduces the solubility. Also, using iso soaked into tissue or cotton buds (etc) works well for rubbing off more stubborn deposits that just soaking won't remove.
I wondered whether if the balls were dirty, the inside of the head may also need a better clean?

The important step is to smell the pieces (im the first place: the condenser-CU). If you notice the popcorn…then you know what to do…
Yeah theres still a smell, not sute of that is from before the clean or from the vapes I tried after. I will give it another clean and try be more thorough this time.

Turns out there is some sugar soap around the house so I will let it soak in that as well after cleaning again cheers.

How would you recomend cleaning the head? Just scrubbing the inside with an iso soaked cotton bud?

Exactly! 😊
If it's already been soaked, then more soaking seems less likely to help. Because iso is non-polar the cannabinoids don't dissolve well into it. Also, inside the head is the hottest part where the cannabinoids may have degraded into more persistent organic matter (we used to call this TBS in the labs - Thick Black Shit), a similar effect to the coating on the balls but you can't burn it off so easily. So resorting to some gentle elbow grease helped along with some iso may be worth a try at least, you'll see immediately if you're are removing anything from the colouration on the bud or tissue.

Awesome vid and nice confirmation! More power and letting go around the first mark, then letting it climb and clicks has worked pretty well on my og. On the contrary, really low voltage is more like a torch, and I’ve let go at the first click with good results. RTL still possible either way though :ko:
