I have some brief thoughts and questions about the TM2 I'd like to share.
The TM2 had an unfairly steep uphill trek to gain my appreciation. I don't like wood on my portables, bead blasted clear anodized aluminum, nor the size and ergos the TM2 seemed to have. Plus, I'm extremely pleased with other devices, and didn't feel it was something I needed. When it arrived, it exactly fit my mental model and expectations, but felt extremely light and insubstantial. The glass stems seemed to ruin the overall aesthetic, too, and I couldn't get great vapor from it. Through no fault of the TM2 itself, I didn't like it.
It was a real moment like this
At first.
Because I do love it.
One of the first positive things I noted about it was how the wood felt. It's really nicely finished, smooth and unyielding, pleasing to run your fingers and palm over. The Purpleheart has this really beautiful luminous wine coloring with intriguing grain throughout. I kinda don't want to stop handling it.
OMG It's so pretty I wanna SCREAM.
The ergos seem a lil wackadoo. I can fully grasp it in both orientations, but it feels a bit oversize. Plus, the button is way down at the bottom that I'm not sure the best way to engage it.
I really didn't like this at first, but I've come to really love how interesting it is to flop around in my hands and try different holding styles on. Even just holding the bottom part, index finger on the button like a trigger, feels secure and great given the baseplate is so much wider than the body.
The learning curve on this is real, and I spent a lot of time just getting more heat than vapor. With the open draw, I also kept overfilling my lungs chasing the vapor that never came. Plus, I felt like was getting incomplete extraction. The magic, for me, was running at 7.5 or 8 on the dial. From there, I inhale slow until I feel airflow resistance. This comes on like flipping a switch, and let's me know the load is starting to give off vapor.
Then I take advantage of the high airflow and rip it, resulting in some ginormous clouds. It's amazerz. While I know this thing can probably give wonderful flavor, it's more of a "press button to recieve medication immediately" device for me.
On that point, I REALLY like how instant on demand this is. I have other on demand devices, butane and electronic, that work great. We live in a golden age of dry herb vaporizers. That said, this gets close to what I needed from the Vapexhale Evo in everything but pure flavor (which could just be the temps I'm using idk).
Sometimes I go from being fine to needing to renew medication RightNowRightNowRightNow. I don't need to fiddle with reloading, lighters or techniques, hot things, or warmup times. And in those times I usually need the full big dose in a single instance, rather than over several desperate draws. That's to say nothing of the ease I can load a stem and and microdose sips from it across an evening to give me a little boost as needed.
I can 100% affirm that the TM2 does this like no other vape I own. I was gonna catch and release this based on initial impressions, but it's become indispensable.
Additionally, I really love that the TM2 doesn't time out at all once you've done the 3 clicks to turn it on. It's so incredible to just leave on as long as you want, having 1 press of the button between you and medication.
Because I'm really anxious about leaving a device "on", especially one with an internal battery, I decided to test the
TM2 Power Drain In Standby. My results and math below, based on taking the included Molicel P46A right off the charger, measuring voltage unloaded, leaving it installed in the TM2 for 48 hours on standby only, then taking a reading.
4.1942V @ 10:55 AM 4/25/2025 (START)
4.0966V @ 10:55 AM 4/27/2025 (END)
(START) - (END) = 0.0976V
0.0976V / 48Hrs = 0.0020V drop per hour
(Max Charge of 4.1942V) - (Min desired safe charge of 3.0V) = 1.1942V
1.1942V / 0.0020V = 597.1 Hours to Discharge on Standby
597.1Hrs / 24Hrs =
24.8792 Days to Discharge on Standby
Need to Care about leaving the TM2 on Standby for long periods of time from a purely battery discharge standpoint = 0.000 Need to Care
Questions for you experienced TM users, if you have time to answer:
1) How do I hold this best? Pressing the thin side into my palm, engaging the button with the base of my palm, seems to feel great and natural. Will this cause harm to the button itself? Should I be using my pinky finger or something to lightly press the button?
2) I'm finding my "sweet spot" in bowl size is the dimensions of the dosing cap, but without using the dosing cap. This gives me .25g on full pack, with the ability to load much less and it still works fine. The high airflow and straw nature just sucks everything up to the intake when I draw anyways.
Do you reduce the bowl size way down with the sliding CU, or leave it higher up?
3) Do you use the dosing cap? Would you use a dosing cap if it was something smaller like the Roffu/v3pro or HR Edge/F3 dosing caps? I love a dosing cap, and normally use them exclusively, but I personally find the stem load on the TM2 provides best vapor, and I kinda like scooping up fresh herb into it to pack. I'll probably never use it on the go, though, which is where dosing caps shine.
