Herb Grinders

SCS has certainly produced some GEMS over the years, but then they FUCK everything back up again the following year for the sake of "innovation." They have abandoned some pretty stellar teeth patterns over the years, and some of their 4 pieces migrated to different mesh sizes that were way too large and pass through more than pollen... they just do not have the capacity to leave a good design alone, every year they tweak something and not always for the better.

Bummer, I wasn't aware they've been tinkering over the years. The 5 yr old Lg piece I have is a beauty and would've eventually bought again.

Probably done wrong but I tried downloading some pics of the 5yr old Lg SCS I've been using. Reflections might make it look worst than it is because it's almost flawless.

Dealing with the same thing myself. LOVE my old glossy black SCS large, super mild wear for the amount of work it's done.

This whole new stainless steel is healthier era has me wanting to upgrade and pull the trigger, but one part of my brain says it (the mildly worn edges) can't be killing me from the amounts I've seen worn off. It might be, but I can't justify the price honestly.

Can't lie though I love my large SCS, I've used a few others and hated them honestly. I can't use something I hate using regardless of potential health stuff which hasn't really ever even been proven, so who knows honestly what to believe.

The only super mild wear I can see is from the teeth around the magnets on the top and bottom. No idea how to post pics or I would... :)

My stoner math shows the grinder is 5 years old, 2 oz a month = 1.5lbs a year x 5= 7.5 lbs total it's chewed through.

If Santa Cruz ever made a SS copy of their large in 3 pc I'd buy in a second even if it was hundreds of dollars simply because I love the function, design and most importantly the shred/cut.

The grinder is a totally personal thing in the end though, you've gotta literally handle it daily so it has to be comfortable in your hand, myself I can't even look at anything below 2.5in also.
That's how I feel about my Tsunami as @PutOneInTheAir brought up how his was flaking. I just love how smooth the the Tsunami is and the sunkin top. Wether it will cause me harm I don't know. 🤷

Well I found a use for mine at least I love the concave top I use it to set all my dosing capsules that need to be filled. I resorted back to scissors in a shot glass I feel a little better about it. Mine starting to flake off pretty bad now no luck on company support I don't even think they really exist anymore broken email and no contact even when I try to call because they supposedly have a lifetime warranty.

If it wasn't for that issue it would be solid as a grinder everything else is good besides the coating.
I did find one pretty good size metal flake that looks like it came off from one of holes.

I don't really know the health issues or if there is any major? I don't know if it's anodized or just painted and if it's some cheap lead paint from China? I have no idea so at this point I just stick with my stainless steel scissors as I'm not grinding a whole lot of flower as it is I also have my planet of the vapes grinder that works but I'm digging the scissors nowadays I get a pretty good consistency for each one of my vapes.

Oh, for what it's worth, you don't even have the original SCS teeth, you have the version that came after, I believe the first redesign... Because it began with their launch of their three-piece, I bought that one too thinking it would be better for me than using my old SCS four-piece without the keif filter, however it was a huge disappointment because the teeth had changed... As you see with yours, the teeth have extra blade in the midsection, so they create a sort of hyperbola, which I found totally unnecessary and annoying because weed sticks to it, the weed gets stuck within the individual teeth themselves, maddening for me lol The old SCS which I believe was the OG style, was just a plain square star shape for the teeth, more like the new Old Mate steel MedGrind that is coming soon so I am excited for that!

Ahh, thank you for the history lesson on the SCS evolution, and the word hyperbola :).

I do know what you're saying about the weird teeth on this version as I also pick the teeth so to speak on it sometimes when certain flower clings too the grooves.

It sucks because after 5ish years I'm definitely gonna want something new again, but I've tried several of the good ones out there and hated them.

Liked the BCG large that my buddy has, but his also is starting to slightly lose color like mine and it's also aluminum so to me it's like what's the point? Was excited when I heard about the SS version but at 2.2 in way to small for me.

Didn't like the flow of the Ripper (wasn't a smooth grinding motion for me) and didn't like the fire house threading as it popped open and dropped all the flower out as I was turning so I'm not using something I have to 'learn how to use'.

Wasn't a fan of Cali crusher with those flat blade teeth either.

Had a large Mendo for a month, but didn't like how the lid just sits on top instead of snapping together like most do. I did like the actual grind though.

Just a few others..Iaso, the seal thing was weird and Zam was ok but pretty sure it's China SS so who knows how safe that is.

Shockingly my other favorite besides my SCS was a cheap one off Amazon I bought called black tie or black tuxedo or something like that. Was an absolute beast that didn't flake for years and was I think $20.

Definitely a tough decision, I want something larger than 2.5in and hopefully SS if possible but it seems I hate most of them out there right now... Lol

Oh BCG is releasing a stainless steel large size as well soon after the small regular size launches they've said... You can ask them

However it sounds like you would like this one that I mentioned that has those teeth:
Sorry possibly this was already shared in this thread haha although it is a bit on the smaller side for you...? Seems really nice!

Thanks very much for the info on both the BCG large SS and that very cool looking medgrind one also.

Once this grinder decision looms, you really do get a bit neurotic.. :)

Almost 500 page thread proves that.. :)

I wouldn't hold your breath for the large BCG SS. Might take awhile
Funny they just replied back to me asking about it as I read your post...

'Yes, we're working on a large stainless steel model as well. We're hoping to start the presale for that early next year if all goes well.'

Maybe the next few months hopefully?? I'm really hoping someone (BCG or anyone for that matter) goes above that 2.5in territory that most large grinders fall into.

I learned my lesson I'm a firm believer now buy once cry once.

If I were to buy another grinder it would be this one

Allegedly is stainless steel? I wouldn't hold my breath on that but allegedly Germany has stricter quality control than other countries even if it's coming from China. That's what I've been told and I've read I don't know how true it is but I would certainly try this over the one you posted if it were me to do it all over again.

Yup, an essential tool, so in my opinion as well as many on FC, best to save up for a BCG, either the aluminum or SS version, favorite of many reviewers, and users that grind a lot more herb than I do. I own complete sets of both sizes, no issues with properly done anodization colors. Happy GRIND, happy MIND.

Cool, it should be 2.75 inches just like the current aluminum large BCG... Originally they were saying that their stainless steel version was going to be one version 2.5 inches (also thought it was going to have the aluminum shell for color too, but that version may still come later) but yeah 2.2 inch regular to start

I think it'd be a huge hit for them if they went above that 2.5in barrier.

Lazy folks like me who hate grinding all the time will definitely buy it. That's literally why I'm still attached to my old large SCS. Just throw a bunch in the grinder and I'm good for a couple/few days.

I can't lie though I spent 30 minutes reading through that Medgrind thread you posted in a reply to me yesterday. That thing looks beautiful.. Lol

Like I said, they already have, and will be again...

Yeah I don't like doing that because I have such a variety of herbs so now I have more grinders if I do do that but also stopped leaving stuff to sit in the grinder for days ideally if it is nice fresh stuff because then it won't be anymore...

Yeah I'm in love with all my BCG but I'm really excited about the MedGrind too!

Agreed, I tried to be cheap and all it did was take away money from my BCG funds. Now I'm just rocking the scissors with shot glass LCG (labor cut grinder)
These are just cheap China grinders

Their online presence seems to have started pretty recent.

Here you get a decent look of the grinder: https://www.instagram.com/p/CmajzExsere/

4-pc only which I myself aren't interested in, also uses a threaded design which I think is bested by the magnetically attaching bottom part some other manufacturers use. I don't know about the teeth pattern because I haven't used enough different toothed grinders (only 2) to tell what works and what doesn't

Odin SS grinders, just heard of them today, any users here? I'm curious. Couldn't find much on them.

Are these them?

Hey guys I wanted to get some of your opinions just stoned thinking here? I know there's been concerns with metal shavings or anodized flaking ECT.. do you think a water piece would actually filter out the flakings and get trapped in the water instead of your lungs? I wonder if they're heavy enough or they would get stuck in the water?
