Day 1 was great though - got about 6 bowls through the TM2 and loved every minute of it.

Day 2 with my TM2 … and the circuit board shorted and the device started smoking (that lovely burning electronics smell).

I was excited to get back to it …. Only this time turning the unit on resulted in a few clicking noises and then the whole device started smoking!!!

I quickly unscrewed the battery cap and pulled out the cell.

I took what I could apart to see what had happened… big yikes.

Update;

TinyMight responded quickly!
New unit’s being shipped out tomorrow DHL Express.

They provided an explanation of what likely happened;

“
From the photos it looks like the heater has been mechanically shorted, causing the abnormally high current to go just trough the heater contact electrode, bypassing the heater. And this is why the contact electrode has heated up very much, and the wood has scorched where it was in contact with the wood. This high current has then burned the output transistors on the board.

We have replaced one similarly damaged unit where the heater was shorted and it had this same burn mark of the electrode on wood and burned transistors. That one was damaged when the user had tried to remove the top panel in a similar way as in Tinymight 1. But in TM2 the design is different and if the heater is not first properly released, the top panel removal will damage and short the heater.

I have analyzed this a lot now but it is very hard to find any explanation how the unit works first and then the heater get shorted, the heater is protected by the heat spreader plate and the glass tubes surrounding the heater looks normal without damage. I could imagine in some heavy impact the supporting rods to break and this could cause a delayed short, but such an impact would most probably first damage the glass tube surrounding the heater but it looks normal.

To find any explanation of how this has happened is now rather impossible as the unit has been already disassembled.

Those that give possible home repair solutions, should now consider there are meaningful changes between the OG TM, and the newest TM2.

Sorry to hear that. Seems like a majority of people get their unit in a couple weeks or so. Unless you were talking about accessories, those seem to take quite some time.

Yes, a Tinymight breakdown must consider the changes. I have downloaded the pictures made available by @seventhexile, for my own knowledge.
I can appreciate that Tinymight could be concerned to have such pictures publicly available, for reasons of trade secrets.
For this reason, I will limit my comments about assembly and teardown ideas.

Clearly the developers have engineered changes to address previous issues with battery-heater electrical contacts (circuit).
There is new method for securing the upper battery strap to the top cap, such that the cap can not be removed simply.
There seems to be a new coil spring fitted to the main body screw. I have an idea, but no clarity, as to the purpose and correct location of this spring (relative to bottom cap, circuit board, wood body, upper cap, etc.

And most of all because it requires expensive batteries to function which the Chinese would never import since they have a shitload of crappy ones ! I am pretty sure they could have pulled exactly the same heater concept,but at that ohms their batteries will be useless,haha.

Dumb question, but If I want to insert a screen into the stem, using the cooling unit, so, under it, after the herb, to prevent herb from falling in the oven, should I go for the cooling unit screen, the mesh screen for the heater protector screen holder or the rimmed basket? Also, any downsides to this, other than probably a muted taste?

So, a cap on the end so nothing can fall out? Most people use a rimmed basket for that. I've seen people who've pushed the basket partially back up towards the rim to make the whole thing flatter. Other types of screen will be harder to handle and take up more space. If you want the herb further from the heater you could use a regular basket installed convex side towards the load.

Indeed, it feels like a super mesh or so, very thick and the holes diameter is very small, dunno if even Kief will go there.
that being said, every vape suffers from the vapor that goes in the other direction of the draw, small amount of the vapor, so I guess every few months a cleaning near the heater, the heater's edges like, should be cleaned with iso/ethanol? (without battery inside ofc)

If you want the herb further from the heater you could use a regular basket installed convex side towards the load.

The heralded @dzoinp heater screen mod comes to mind to space the load from the heater though I’ve never tried it myself.

I gave this a try and I’d have to agree, nice way to hit the TM2. I’m using the HA stem with TM supplied basket screen, loose straw fill half way-ish and hit 4-7. Thanks for the suggestion
