GRAV Upline Taster is what you seek. A little longer than the stock unit, it doesn't have a glass screen but has a pinch near the end where the herb goes. Hundreds of pages ago someone suggested you can carefully load w/o a screen at all. Never tried, I just place a .625" screen into the stem to cover the pinch and prevent herb from going through. I'm not sure what you mean by have a domed metal screen, but I find the screen useful. The UT has a flat mouthpiece.

I use it with my OG TM, 100% native, and find it cools as well as the stock unit with better taste. Plus, it is only $14.

I've suggested this stem so many time GRAV should be paying me!
They probably have no clue…..a bunch of vape heads are buying their large one hitters, plus I ordered a bubbler

Thanks @jbm for the picture, it looks wider than I thought but I’m down for one👍

Edit: BTW I also bought the Grav chillum, thought it would work since it fits, but very poor performance maybe because the glass is too thick in the bowl. I gave it to a friend who smokes oh well…

@jbm Does the silicone skin that came with your Octotaster cover up the exposed glass of a short stem? I image you cut the skin connecting both ends to be able to use half of it with the TM, if indeed this is the same one I was looking at.
I didn’t cut the skin, as it makes a useful cap for the screen end. It covers most of the exposed glass when in the TM:

Question: my normal case use is sipping on a bowl (or 2 or 3) over the course of a half hour or so. I do this with On Demand mode. Is there any reason to use session mode instead? I'm trying to figure out if there is ever any advantage to session mode at all? Thanks!

Nope, just what feels right for you..each mode has its advantages and disadvantages..

I only use session mode when I intend to one-shot the bowl on glass. Otherwise I find it had to clear my hits. But others like it so, it seems worth trying if you want.

Oh! You mean they're discontinued?

Yeah basically, he had plenty maid, they were sold, I don't think he was making any more, made to order or otherwise, haven't seen him post new stems in a while either so it could be busy with other stuff for now, he does a lot of other glass work

Yeah, I’ve read every page in this thread as I’ve had my TM (OG) for 2.5+ years
...
Inrelated news, I tried turning on my TM below 2 and it wouldn’t turn on. It must be a feature of the 1.5 version of the board though, honestly, I wasn’t running it that low before it was repaired. Now it’s running like a Ferrari and I can use it well starting just above 2. Also, as a workaround, I can turn it one above 2 and the turn the temp down below 2 and use it that way. Not sure if that has been mentioned herein but I thought I’d throw it out there.

I've actually mentioned it several times, that when you are set at zero or one or two or whatever it is depending on the TM, to lock the power so it can't turn on, you just turn it higher to turn it on, but then you can always turn it as low as possible to start your session, it is still a full temp range dial, that is why I like to start many dry stem bowls as low as possible... I figured many people did not realize this, so I kept repeating it, and still many people are missing that as probably many people never use lower settings unfortunately?

^this, all the session mode is doing, is holding the button down for you constantly, since the vape still works the same with on demand pure convection, you are not able to clear your hits in session mode, clear the vapor or clear the heat, it is just a little bonus for some users and use situations (like the one hitter bong rips imo)

I forgot about bong hit scenarios. Yeah, holding down the button would be unwieldy. 👍

Has anyone tried TRWW's "XXL" tapered dimpled stem? Is it better than Tinymight's 3D stem (https://tinymightvape.eu/index.php?route=product/product&path=60&product_id=69)?

It's pretty tempting, though it's more expensive and looks massive next to the regular one.... I guess it cools way more?

Also, is there any reason to get the official Tinymight WPA (https://tinymightvape.eu/index.php?route=product/product&path=60&product_id=68) instead of the TRRW one (https://theroguewaxworks.com/collections/glass/products/tms11-18mm-tinymight-wpa)?

If I get the TRRW one I could combine the purchases and pay just once for shipping... 🤔

TRRW also has a dimpled stem that doubles as a WPA, but you give up some dimples and putting the WPA end on your mouth might not be as nice as the tapered stems... 🤔

Oh, and I was *this* close to buying a super sexy GVB baller stem (which I've heard cools better than any of the other straight stems), but then went into a paranoid rabbit hole of researching whether the boro balls could rub against each other and release glass dust / shards, silicosis, the difference between crystalline (bad) and amorphous silica (harmless), the fact that even glass (amorphous silica) can have some crystalline silica impurities, etc. And then decided it would be best for my peace of mind to not get one and stop wondering if the silly little balls would slowly kills me after all... 😅

Thanks

Guilty as charged. Thanks! I will take back-to-back-to-back hits with my TM later as penance. Grav has some options for me and I’ll still mulling it over (price isn’t the issue but whether I’ll get something I’ll want and like as an alternative to the stock TM stem, which I have 2 of and rotate and swap when cleaning one). :peace:

EDIT/EPILOGUE: just ordered a couple of TM stems on RWW and another scoop/tamp (extra long scoop as I have the wide one with a tamp). Like this stuff! Grav stems might also be ordered soon - why the hell not? I’ll have them in place whenever the RED TM2 comes out :D

Yeah longer will always cool more, and catch more herb particles...

If it's just a plain 18, they're all the same, that's why many of us just use the RBT Splinter stems backwards, they have become my default dedicated TM WPAs since I would never use them as plain RBT stems again now lol the difference could be the inner diameter and glass thickness, so depending how you get rimless basket screen and such, but yeah that's it really

TRRW also has a dimpled stem that doubles as a WPA, but you give up some dimples and putting the WPA end on your mouth might not be as nice as the tapered stems... 🤔

One thing that is nice about those ones, though I think they are 14 mm? is at the WPA end seems to be non frosted which would be more comfortable as a mouthpiece than a typical frosted ground glass one (and less risk of glass dust etc)

Yeah so like I was saying above, ground on ground glass, like most joint connections, many people fear creates the glass dust as well... I am not concerned about the large balls in this configuration, because of how smooth they are being high quality glass at least the handmade color ones for sure, but the clear ones also are fully smooth, so I haven't really thought about it with the size being so large as well... As you use them, they also don't move into each other much, the oils help stick them a bit, they don't clack in a way that I would think could cause dust, given their quality and the force, they are typically pretty close together so they don't rattle much at all either, and that could be specifically requested, the type of configuration where they wouldn't be moving much if at all...?

Finally GVB makes really nice all spiked stems alternatively if you want to reach out by message, I'm sure they will be posted available on the site at some point too, so that could be another option if you really do fear the balls too much!

The CUs get gunked up so fast and are more annoying to clean than just glass, at least for me. "
I don't think the standard CU is hard to clean at at all. But probably because after every couple of bowls, or near the end of a battery, I put my TM2 in session mode for a couple of minutes. glass stem with CU in the TM2 with NO weed after brushing it out as best I can. I think draw a few times. This burns off most of the excess gunk and keeps the airpath clean. Maybe once a week I take the CU apart, put the sticky nuts and washers in warm dawn and hot water in a small pill bottle, shake like crazy, and let them sit for a bit. Rinse them off and they are good to go.

I did experiment with HA four bead stem with a basket screen but though I liked the draw, the way the screen shifts around when I try to stir is a complete deal-breaker for me. The standard CU unit with the short glass stem is now my preferred method. I switched from the titanium one a week or so ago.

wow, this thread so huge. Just getting back to vaporizing, I've ordered TM2, looks so good and opinions are promising.

Would some of You be that kind and get some tldr for me on how should I use device on my very first days to get most of it? :)

Haha yeah it can be intimidating, good on you, I know it's not exactly a summary for you, but if you skim backwards through the thread you should find all the answers to your questions, the same things come up a lot and a lot of us are tired of repeating them, though I'm sure someone will as well!

I feel your pain. My slight OCD has kept me with the cooling unit and stock TM stems for so long. However I’m gonna try some new stems (see above). It’s time I evolve vaping a bit. Slowly :) :peace:

I don’t stir, so don’t have same issues, but I know what you mean about the screen. If I use a poker to empty the bowl the screen moved all over. So now I just blow the spent bowl out in the trash…and the screen doesn’t really budge.
I’m a big fan of the HA stem and their wood mp. Plenty cool for me going from 4-6. Like crazy cool for as hot as the air coming out of this thing is. Without the mouthpiece the glass can get hot on the lips, imho. I think my next purchase will be a RWW acrylic mp; will be nice to compare to the wood one.

These types of joints are used in laboratory settings… so there’s that….
perhaps higher quality?

You cannot say that about all of them, the quality varies across all the different sources etc, I'm not the one who says that, I'm just saying I've seen it said lol off topic here, I feel like there probably was a thread about potential risk of glass particles being inhaled

Have you tried not stirring? I find it completely unnecessary, especially with a dome screen.
I tried, but I have a pathological hatred of wasting anything and knowing there is one more good hit if I do…

So yeah, I have to stir. And it just sucks the fun out of it for me when the screen moves. Got a mouthful of ABV more than once when I took a draw not realizing the shift had happened.

So since that CAN’T happen with stock CU, I’m sticking with it. This is a “me” thing for sure.

But the thing is, you don't actually have to stir, you aren't creating another hit by doing so, the heat isn't missing material so long as it has been fully roasted. Test it by doing a no stir bowl or few and inspecting the ABV, then compare it to a stirred ABV. So long as you run the same temp, you're gonna get the same result without stirring. You're right though, the cone screens do not fit great in a HA stem for me, either, I started using the bucket screens that TRWW stocks in almost every stem and it's been better. Sturdier and more structure so they aren't as easily dislodged.

(They just got refreshed in-stock today: https://theroguewaxworks.com/produc...or-the-tinymight?_pos=11&_sid=750cb5d2c&_ss=r )

Yes I second giving the TRWW screens a try. I have also had good luck with my tm rimmed basket screens that @VGOODIEZ carries, won’t have that screen fall issue with these but smaller loads. I prefer just running my tm2 in session mode with rimmed baskets since I finish a bowl in one go every time.

So you hit until all the vapor is gone and then stir to find a magic last hit?

I have not found that to work for me. Even loading it in another vape gets nothing off it.

But everyone has their quirks. I spin stems in RBT vapes for no reason.
