Puffco Proxy

It doesn’t compare to the vapor production of a Switch but it’s much more portable and a nice experience.
I’ve developed a bronchitis-like cough and am suspecting it’s from dry herb and/or the number of hits I’m taking in a day. So I’d like to try using just concentrates and finish in 1 or 2 hits. Maybe it’s my technique, but my Switch loaded with a small rice grain (about 15mg THC) won’t clear that quick unless I crank the temp so high that it makes me cough. Same with my DTV5. The comments about the no-cough smoothness of the Proxy and thoroughness of vaporizing the dab is my attraction.

I still need to do a few tests with same strain in my Stache & Quomo to compare taste before I give a complete review however, here are a few stats I came up with while testing the Proxy:

+ I was able to get about 15 sessions per charge (mixed between all levels as I like to temp step).
+ Heat up time ranges from :24 seconds to :31 seconds - average heat up time was :28 seconds (Using all levels)
+ Sessions run 1:09 - 1:16 which includes heat up time. (Minutes:seconds)
+ I was able to get between 2-4 hits per session, depending upon how closely I was paying attention and how much goodies were in the oven.
Basically, however many hits one can muster in about :35 seconds.
+ Each charge allowed the Proxy to run an average of 17:49.

Lmk if anyone wants any other “stats” as I love :science:

I am really digging the Proxy - I have been using AND enjoying concentrates a lot more since getting it!

Based on the volume of sales by Puffco and the DV stem market, in gotta imagine there would be interest. Custom, artisanal but less breakable than glass is a killer combo.

I appreciate the thoughts.
After much consideration, I am going to stay in my own lane for the time being. Reasons:
I'm a flower guy. devices for concentrates are not my expertise.
I have concerns about the wood retaining its shape. Burl wood + heat + steam + large diameter hole = risk (inmho). if the shape of the hole it fits in warps even slightly, you will have a very expensive soup ladle and I would have a very disappointed customer.
Some very cool bespoke glass out there. Seems like the right combo to me...

but never say never, just not today.

That said, i will have new products for other devices soon.

I'd be curious to hear if you've tried hash (hard and/or bubble) in the proxy yet. I think I read that it's good with bubble hash somewhere... thanks!
I haven’t been able to get my hands on any thus far, but if I see any available I will definitely buy and test out.
I have only used it with shatter - the concentrate selections are still pretty limited still in NY/NJ area.

I got this device. I like it, but don't love it. It's fun to use, but I prefer my puffco pro over it. I think it is more expensive than it was worth. It's an amazing device, but I think it should cost like $150 considering it is a similar price to a brand new puffco pro. Obviously, you're paying for the pipe function, but I don't know. The price point is a little bit too expensive for me to suggest it to someone.

MJ Arsenal just dropped bubblers and attachments for the Proxy. I'm excited, and I don't even have one yet.
Nice. They have always been a nice option for reasonably priced glass. I'd have more of their stuff if they weren't so committed to 10mm female...

Just took a look and nice lill compact bubbler they put out.

Well, guess what showed up before the Proxy did? Per usual, great prices at Cream City Vapes but gotta be very very patient. They say Proxy lands next week...

Dammit!!!! Proxy finally arrived 56 days after ordering from Cream City Vapes and doesn't even stay seated in this heady glass for 30 sec. A bit better in stock glass but still doesn't look great. Will investigate more tomorrow.

So not sure if this should be Buyer Beware for Proxy being out of spec or Hickory Glass, or both. But I am seeing reports of this problem with Proxys and both stock and aftermarket glass on Reddit now that I look more closely.

Crushing.

Can you do low temp dabs with it? I plan on going for live rosin only and I’ve read it’s better at low temps, some people saying something like 480, but the Proxy lowest starts at 505.

I've also wonderer how daily heating and cooling could modify the shape of the silicone housing over time.

I know the silicone is what allows the Proxy to be a "proxy" that's interchangeable between different rigs and pipes. But I sort of wonder if they couldn't have made the housing out of stainless steel or something, and just used big o-rings that allow you to pop the whole thing into a variety of glass pieces. The o-rings could be replaced intermittently. Making the whole housing out of silicone doesn't allow for that kind of durability.

I haven't heard anyone complaining that it's too hot, so you should be fine.

You can also be hitting it on the way to the lowest temp setting. Inhaling will also keep the chamber a bit cooler by drawing cooler air. And 480 to 505 is too big a difference overall.

Despite my disappointment on the heady glass, it really is a lovely hit and device.

Already heard back from Hickory Glass and they will make it right. Good people and beautiful work.

By coincidence I just got one for $150 from a local dispensary that's an authorized dealer using loyalty program/promo. So hopefully that will help me love it. It's my first Puffco, but I believe you still have to buy the 3D atomizer as an add-on after buying the pro. That increases the $ difference between them. I'm wondering when the Proxy Pro [with Pro-style temp options] will be released.

I’ve read on Reddit that Roger said that, If it ever comes, it will be 2024 soonest.

After a brief panic over the flashing white light was fixed by reinserting the chamber, I fell in love with my new $150 Proxy. Some very nice Muse 9lb Hammer Live Sauz was simply amazing in flavor AND effects (I spent the $ that I saved on the Proxy at the same dispensary ;-) Very positive experience compared to being unimpressed by my new TM2 [$500+ invested for vape+glass+coarse grinder]. I expected the proxy to be my new portable for concentrates, but it may become my new DD and replace my Switch and Mighty+ at home. And it's easier to carry than a DynaVap and heating Wand. So maybe it's the only portable I need.

Life goes on, man...
"The batteries are not swappable. So eventually this $300 device will just die. If this thing sells well there may be third party battery replacement services."

The Proxy looks like it would be good for me and my local head shop has the Proxy for $250, but NOT being able to swap out the batteries is close to a deal-breaker for me. Edit: I was wrong.

The Proxy is $300 at my shop. Oh well...

OK, this after-market pipe is making it REAL hard for me to care about replacement batteries...

Feel you on all that. I gotta say there is something that really works for the Proxy.

I'm usually an ardent swappable batteries guy. Silicon and plastic air pAthways. But damn it passes the Reach Test big time.

And dang there is cool aftermarket glass out there. Maybe next for me is one that fits in the travel case? Or maybe a bubbler?

Still a learning curve ahead of me. And buttons are not yet intuitive and second nature. Plus think I need to drop to a smaller ball. A bit too much effort for my taste with 4mm at present.

I know you have to waste it to taste it. But after 3 heat cycles starting at green and finishing at red, the q—tip clean up nets about 4-5mg from a 15mg rice grain sized dab. Is that what you’re seeing at those temps?

These are not at all cheap, heady glass, but seem very nice:
Yeah some cool heady stuff coming out. One consideration to keep in mind is if aftermarket glass fits in the included case. Have a great heady piece for desktop use. Now considering travel glass options that can fit case. Some sellers are actually giving pics of their glass in the case.

Do the temp settings seem accurate on your Proxy? Mine seemed too cool so i tried the cotton singe test (should turn light gold after 10 seconds at 470 degrees Fahrenheit) and got nothing on Blue which should be 490. So I checked by adding some table sugar (melts at 367 degrees Fahrenheit): had to bump up to green (510) to get it to start melting. i know there’s no coils in the bottom, but is there a 150 degree difference? [Even if there is, the cotton against the chamber sides didn’t singe either]

That is odd. But not too worried as long as I find settings that get me the hits I want.

Yes and I’m not getting big clouds even on white. But there’s not much left so it’s working okay regardless. I just got a Data Logging Thermometer like one that a guy at Cannabis Hardware uses so I’ll have temp curves. But I’ve never seen a surface probe that would give good contact with the sides of that little proxy bowl.
