Anvil by Vestratto

We have people who only contribute to this thread by trying to stir up drama, at least you got us a new heat shield colour option much earlier than we would have otherwise. I liked having more options to choose from, so you speaking up and helping to make it happen is appreciated here, overrun jokes or not. Personally I'd stop apologizing, ignore any further complaints, then go all out and rock a purple avatar.

All this airflow discussion reminds me of when I was setting up the fans for my new computer case. I read a lot of forums and discussions with in depth theory about how the air will flow with certain configuration of fans and what not, theorizing X and Y, but at the end none of that theory really applied to my case and I got the perfect fan config by testing and reading all the temperatures myself.

What I'm saying with all this is that someone with both devices should take of the screen off, stick a probe thermometer from the other end and let us know the readings in different scenarios.

The anvil uses too many proprietary parts to be a good candidate for aftermarket stems. It would require basically an entire redesign. All you gotta do is take one apart, all the pieces need each other to function.
oh I think the amount of parts you can skip is quite big though, I already went minimalistic with a 14-10mm adapter, its a bit finnicky to get it in the joint and get the airflow right, but it does work (just keep in mind I added one dynavap condenser o-ring to the anvil condenser, in the top rim, but I only added that after I took the pics - and you kinda have to get it on there after you're done with the assembly of all the metal parts)

I have one of these and tried. Mine is a fairly cheap thermometer that I used a k type wire prob. The problem with these cheap ones is they can’t read temps on the fly very well. They take awhile to settle into what temperature they are reading. Reading a heat up or what temp the air passing through the bowl is would be impossible with mine. It does great for reading e-bangers though. Maybe @Vestratto might have access to a more sophisticated tool and could do some tests?

Are you still using the condenser or did you smash a bottom screen inside the oven?

Thought I saw a small picture of a @phattpiggie stem for Anvil on Vestratto’s site but I just checked and can’t find it.
Am I going mad? It was at the bottom of a page, with a nice little blurb about 3rd party vendors making Anvil things & 3 little pics of a @Duba case, a pp stem and something else. So I guess pp has done it but he’s a master engineer and most can’t do what he can.

Your not going mad, but what the F do I know. ;) The pics you were referring to are located in the May 15 Vestratto Sunday Post and on Instagram.

Looking forward to what 3rd party stem makers have in store for us this year.

I do think the third party support is important for these kind of vapes and their longevity

DV for example - They don’t always make the best business and product decisions, but the third party market is so large that it keeps the platform current and viable in spite of anything DV do or don’t do

I wouldn’t be surprised to see a more modular anvil as time passes, although I’m very happy with the one I’ve already got. It was never initially meant for a consumer release and by extension people making things for it, so the lack of modularity I feel makes sense in this context

I have them all and I love them, gonna cop one of those fmj for my simrell for sure.

One other little issue Ive had with my anvil, is it can be really difficult to unscrew the stock MP
and also the airflow piece always gets super stuck when dirty, like cant just pull oven with condenser out.
have to heat up and unscrew the airflow piece.

as a medical device this thing is nuMber 1

Man, I noticed the XL MP gets a little tough to remove at times. Also, my heatshield is kind of just stuck right now. I'm not able to unscrew it. Wanted a change of scenery, so tried throwing the green shield back on. My blue shield that's on it now just doesn't want to come off lol. Other than these two things, I personally have no complaints with the device. Been using it nearly every day since I got it right before 4/20.

But yeah, the whole thing with people starting drama over these devices is lame. Thought I left that behind with all the video game console wars ha. But, it'll always be this way with pretty much anything. So I'll just sit here and get roasted on the Anvil and DV FMJ when I get it.

I have same issues with airflow piece...almost always stuck....I am sure there is a trick to get it loose...tempting to stick small screwdriver in there and start prying but know better...

I screwed my airflow valve all the way into the stem as I was getting fed up of the wobbles and general jankiness of the airflow system.

I thought it was a clever little system when I first got my Anvil, but as time has passed and it’s worn in I’ve found it to be rather frustrating at times

I don't have much interest in 3rd party stems for the Anvil. I mean I suppose the upside is that there's zero chance a third party will rival the brutal shipping costs from Vestratto but I never took to the Lego mix and match that some folks enjoy with vapcap stems.

And I'm maybe missing something about the airflow. I prefer a more open draw so I just keep the middle piece screwed in all the way and I've been really satisfied. I struggle to imagine a use case where I'd wish it had less airflow than its current wide open config, which isn't especially open compared to RBT, CC, Lamart, etc. For reference I'm mostly using the large inline and only occasionally a j-hook.

I appreciate how quick you can clean and dry the Anvil and get back to business. I've kept the tab open but the o-ring store is still out of the 5mm (it's been about a month now) and I don't see the point in paying $10 to ship all but one of the replacement o-rings I'd need.

I know they show out of stock on the 1x5mm Viton ones but place the order, they will all ship in a couple days. I have ordered 2 additional batches for friends since the 0 stock and they have come in one shipment.

The airflow adjustment hasn’t really been an issue for me. I keep it around 3/4 closed most of the time. It can be a little finicky, but works fine IMO.

Did some native sessions last night, good stuff. I love being able to get one super satisfying hit and kill the bowl quickly. I really want to get the XL mouthpiece at some point, but I’m holding out for Sneaky Pete or some other third party to stock them (fuck that $20 flat rate shipping) along with an extender for the case.

I can confirm the YLL InductionHeater works with the Anvil:

YLL Induction Heater FC

With the correct technique I can get even, dark brown ABV on a single draw.

I don't think this is really news anymore. It seems like any induction heater with a big enough hole has a very good chance of working with the Anvil.

But the heaters developed for the DV are not ideal for the Anvil. They work great for me, but there is a ton of room for improvement for the Anvil.

Nice timing, I straight up was just about to post and ask about IH’s for the Anvil. I believe I saw someone use the UFO IH and I’ve seen others use the iSpire Wand.

Is anyone here mostly using the Anvil with an IH? Or is a using a torch still more common? Basically, if an IH could heat up the Anvil in 25-30 seconds, that’d be awesome. Don’t get me wrong, using a torch is cool and all, but me personally? I never used IH with DV so I still have an itch for a heater. Not to derail or talk about other devices but yeah.

I’m not crazy imaginative like some of you. So as it is right now, the Anvil suits my needs. I can’t really think of anything else it needs other than maybe an IH specifically for it.

I am exclusively using the Anvil with an IH. The UFO is my current favorite.
Ahh, so it was you posting about the UFO and Anvil. Apologies. I don't know why, but I guess you posting about the UFO has been stuck in my head. Most likely because I want an IH specifically for the Anvil and from what I remembered, you seemed to have positive comments about that combo.
