@GoldenBud glad you have your method figured out.

I am beginning to try different ways to us my new HI. Overall I like it a lot more than my other vapes - dynavap, solo2 and lotus but I kinda knew that would happen.

Today it was a medium grind, in the 5/8" od stainless tube wpa in a j-hook. The 1/4" interior diameter makes the smallest chamber, screen upside down, barely packed, just covering screen well. I let it heat soak at 10.3 for about a half an hour, blew in and around heat soaked heat shield to cool a little. Inhaled slow a few times. Some stirring and a last draw at 12.4 (max on vvps). Amazingly effective and convection high, unlike a more differing conduction high with the dynavap.

The HI is a great tool. It is beautiful because of how amazing it works at extracting. It is also very well made - small but solid, differing bowl sizes, powerful with a nice range (about 10.0 to 12.4 with digital number read out on vvps).

Still need to experiment more to find what roasting tubes and temps I like best.

I find that trying to keep a set voltage and adjusting screen depth is easier to find your sweet spot than constantly changing voltage, because the wattage also changes accordingly. I know it drifts but I try to keep it around 11.8-12 vdc and just change the depth to get my sweet spot. I have a 7/16 heater cover and have a scoop that gives me a .05-.06 gm full. I get 3-5 good draws on it depending on speed of draw, consistency of the herb. It does require a stir or 3.

@GoldenBud I agree it takes time to reach 12.4v or it takes time to heat up to that temp. There is also a little time needed to reheat or recharge . And I'm still trying to figure this device out. I don't like to wait. Just want to quickly catch a buzz and move on. I think I am getting one big extraction on the first hit after a long heat up time at roughly 10v. It's a slow, long draw and I appreciate the terpy flavor.

Maybe I'll turn it up to 12v and try @OrsonWhales suggestion.

Yeah, I haven't come close to combusting but imagine you could at full 12.4v with a long heat soak and then slow draw.

You still get terpy first hits and slightly on the second. I use the straight glass piece with the inverted screen. Adjust the amount of air in the roasting tube on the first draw by tilting slightly over the heater top. Alan tipped me off to this trick. It recovers faster that way too. He said think of it as a hot water heater. If you just run full hot it’s going to take forever for the tank to get back to temp. Same goes for the heater. It isn’t until subsequent hits that I insert the glass fully over the heater cover. It takes a little technique but it comes easily. It’s my daily driver. I plug it in when I get up, unplug it before bed. Mostly use a Tinymight when I go portable. I have a WS and enano and this is far far my favorite device. Aesthetically the WS is top notch. I’m just not a big dynavap fan and the draw is restricted compared to the HI. I like them all but the HI is my go to.

Thanks for tips. I just ran it at 12v. Five min warm up, then three hits. The first draw was fast, wait five min, draw/inhale medium, wait five min, draw real slow. I combusted slightly on the third. This thing has power.

I like your suggestion about using the glass roasting tube, running the HI hot, and temp stepping in the manner you suddest. So start by backing off the heat soaked hot HI by not fully incerting the tube and tipping it to let cool air in the side and then on subsequent draws got more aggressive.

Alan knows his stuff. I am grateful I have this amazing tool.

I don’t wait five minutes between draws. Maybe 2-3. Especially if you’re not drawing all the heat out with the first one. Only time I had problems with combustion was early on using the SS tube. I was fully inserting it and drawing too slowly. I prefer the glass taste so I haven’t really used the SS much since. I rarely use wpa because I love those tasty terps.

Ok, I think I have the hang of it now. The past three or four sessions were run at higher volts. I like the tilt method to allow cool air in which helps the beginning hits stay terpy. The glass roasting tube with the j-hook is nice and I'm enjoying that as well. Thanks for the tips.

So stunning! Zapote wood in a hexagon shape with a rounded middle (he posted in the past a sumac square HI that had a round twisted middle, our inspiration) and a tulip wood cap in the base that is insanely gorgeous, since I use mine upside down on glass I will get to see that bottom a lot!

And here^ are the large 18.8mm shorty WonG stems to go with it! Satinwood on the left with glass bowl and glass lining, tulipwood in the middle with small steel bowl (fits inside the core instead of around it) and steel lining, cocobolo on the right with steel bowl and steel lining... Also getting a couple all glass shorty 14.5mm GonG stems, probably going to try the paper, maybe others as well, he offers way too much! :cool:

Here she is. I figured out how to insert an image by url (right click on image, open the image in a new tab, and then use that url).

The maker's craftsmanship is top notch. I'm faithfully adding a finish/sealant (1 part beeswax to 2 part mineral oil).

I received a box full of goodies from Alan today, super fast shipping, am impressed how much fits in such a small box, for a large heat island this is much smaller than I expected as usual! Warming up now:

Photos cannot do this Zapote wood justice though it is a lovely shade of reddish browns, very happy how that came out, always a gamble with the colors... Here it is with the plastic microVVPS and watt meter, that is only needed to get a sense of the statistics, then I can remove it for future use! Much more to come as I got oh so much here lol so I will keep editing and posting!

In love with the Zapote wood color, and the rounded hexagon shape, the tulip wood stem is also really beautiful (different from the bottom of the HI also beautiful) though not pictured (it has the smaller bowl size, 3/8 stem fits inside the 7/16 core, so lower temps are needed or shorter hits to be careful, the metal is also a little loose though since it is one piece straight through) on the right is the cocobolo steel bowl / lined stem and on the left is the satinwood glass bowl / lined stem, all are 18.8mm WonG's so I am using them through a variety of glass and adapters... HI seems to have no trouble milking the new cloud connoisseur prodigy big rig even at low power setting (under 5 watts) --tease--spoiler--behind it is another new log from Alan in sumac wood with a thread soon to come for it--spoiler--tease--

^two of the other glass pieces, rather setups, that I've been using the most so far (the swiss one on the left is new, awesome dry, so many right angles with the adapters haha, also great with water, but impossible to get anymore now, the other is TAG super slit donut with @Vlad the Inhaler mouthpiece)

Good job going for a log. You will like it.

I think logs are powerful and simple (like unbreakable). There is a little warm up time to heat soak the metal heater cover and a little recovery time, so a little learning curve. But overall I think they are amazing for convection extraction and general convience. Everyone should have one. I prefer mine with a j-hook to help cool.

Hey All, Quick question. Is there any reason a Solo II bubbler straw (from POTV, I think) wouldn't work with the 7/16" heater cover?

I am selling the Solo and was going to include it, but now maybe I will keep it. Excited to join the HI club.

works like a charm, the flavour is top notch(glass is glass..) , used all my Solo II stems with the HI. tiny note: remember that the stem is not 100% secured. the stem doesn't get inside the HI's cover, but sits on it, so if you make a quick move or strong move, in my case, you can break the glass.. If you're a gentle person with glass all good. I replaced it to 3/8'' cover.

For dry usage it will be great, when it gets any WPA usage, I prefer the 3/8'' any time
