Discontinued Vapexhale Petra (Upgraded Evo?)

Bad Dog

Yeah I pissed on the rug...... so what
I suppose the way you use it could effect results. for instance if you don't remove your ht to clear your hits and allow vapour to escape out the top of the bamboo you could have issues? again if you have a full basket or loaded nail and don't remove the ht, not only will what vapour is in the bamboo not to escape but the ht will actually blow more vapour into the bamboo, and to add insult to injury if your not quickly backing your hits the vapour remains in the bamboo possibly burning to the bamboo? I suppose under conditions such as that and others you could have problems especially with heavy use.

Looks like I’m late to the party. I’m interested in seeing the new model once produced.

Incidentally “ticker” unit #49 is still running strong. Both my fanatic and standard evos quit working long ago.

All three of my Clouds - ticker OG like yours, fanatic evo, standard evo - still going strong.

Btw, re the fanatic: I checked with Hanu after the VXL "merger", was told that the "lifetime warranty" is still being honored.

"With the VapeExhale, the purpose of the device wasn’t super obvious, but the Petra has more of a centerpiece design. I’m a big fan of technology, so when I was designing the Petra, I was thinking about the KitchenAid mixer. That may seem strange, but the KitchenAid mixer is something that as a cook, either at home or in a restaurant, they own these things literally for 20 years. It has a very long product life. I wanted the Petra to be the same. I wanted it to look more like an appliance, I wanted it to be built with stability and durability so that when the customer purchases that product, it becomes a centerpiece that they can set up. If your grandkids come in, they see your vaporizer, it becomes more of an educational opportunity, and less about feeling embarrassed about your cannabis pieces. So, for me, design is all about ease of use, but also being appealing to the eye. The Petra is its own show, and it deserves to make a splash."

"Dual functionality was one of the things found in our original model, the Vape Exhale that we first released nine years ago. I think that that’s very important for products. If a customer is going to spend anywhere between $300 to $500 retail, you need to give them more bang for their buck. Being able to vaporize flower and concentrates fits for the markets that we’re going into. People are consuming flower and concentrates at about the same percentage rate. So, we want to make sure that our devices can give the customer the ability to do both, either at home or on the go."

Love the look of the thing but... There really needs to be more information than what is given on this thing to warrant a purchase even at $420 bucks. All "Existing Hydratubes are compatible except the Swiss Tree?" Doesn't that mean that No classic Hydratubes are going to fit into this recessed base then? While I got to admit I've been using my evo with a hose and my own glass instead lately... this kinda sucks as I still have a classic Hydrabomb that isn't going to fit in the base.

Also what's up with these colors? Kush? Is that going to be green or purple lol! Give me some dark green handles and some more information on improvements and I would be more interested. The stand and accessories in the LE bunble have us guessing really.. Looks like a place for the hydratube and glass nails with that stand? Please give us some more information!

I've tried multiple times for the past month to get the dimensions of the Petra with & without glass and still don't know other than "about 2 feet with glass." The last time I asked for the Petra dimensions in comparison to the CloudEVO and was told to just order the CloudEVO!

I gave up trying to get any info from HanuLabs.

I ordered one. I never order any type of tech before the first or second revision because I am all too familiar with how first gen releases usually need to be tweaked a few times before it reaches a final product, just like the original evo. I dropped my evo a year ago and bamboo cracked and I have been missing for sometime, literally can't Find it to ship back for repairs lol. That is the only reason I pulled the trigger. I am hoping not to regret the purchase because the lack of customer support I am currently receiving is concerning. I just asked a quick question about my order and have yet to receive a response. Almost a week too. I agree with the push on Social Marketing but there is a transparency and support that is currently missing here with Hanu. Vapexhale on the other hand was a universe away in terms of support and transparency and thats why I stuck with them. One of the best vape experiences hands down and I am hoping it is as sturdy and reliable as my evo. If I have any issues strong support is not looking to promising atm.

No word back yet.. i'll try again emailing them for specifics after 7 days have passed. I just don't understand how you can be so vague the way they described it. I want to know more about the stand specifically and want to be sure there are still clear options for glass. I can't stand these Graphite options (sorry Seibo) I want clear scientific glass, am not interested in boro nails or factory 2nd's either.. Quartz or bust for me!

It's been 5 days I'll try again on monday if I still hear nothing back.😕

I have been emailing them to confirm they are still on track for shipping 12/10 for around 2 weeks now, with no response. I purchased one for myself and one for a friend, I really hope this doesn't turn out to be a Kickstarter failed funding, the new CEO assured me they would ship on time a month or so ago, but no response to a few emails in the past week or two make me nervous that things are not going as smoothly as planned,

I hope someone else has spoken to them and has some better news, they are not updating the status anywhere, it's just the same posts as when they launched.

“Our goal was to improve upon the same great tasting experience introduced by the EVO back in 2013, while leveraging the feedback from our current fan-base to create something even more long-lasting,”

“The Hanu Petra was designed for consumers looking for the purest form of inhaling flower or concentrates, one that allows them to truly taste the full-spectrum,” said Ricardo Willis, CEO of Hanu Labs

Hanu Labs™ Introduces the Limited Edition Petra

By
Press Release
October 8, 2021

The new Hanu Petra is a dual-functioning desktop vaporizer for both flower and concentrates wielding an incredibly articulate convection-based heating system that eliminates combustion, along with an all-glass airpath that allows the herb to enter the airways as a rich, clean, moisture conditioned vapor, cooled to perfection.

Instead of conduction heating where a hot surface is used to char the herb, leading to a burnt taste, the Hanu Petra (MSRP $499) features patented Perpetual Heat Thermal Technology that evenly and efficiently extracts aromatic healing properties, effective ingredients and flavor molecules for an elevated experience. The device offers analogue controls, allowing users the option of adjusting the temperature to their desired range. As you inhale, the air flows past the heater, warms up to your set temperature and then glides through to vaporize your chosen herb or concentrate. Upgrading the smoking experience even further, this desktop heater core is encapsulated by premium-grade borosilicate glass delicately hand-blown with uniform consistency. The Hanu all-glass airpath and artisanal HydraTubes™ provide the cleanest avenue possible for every inhale. Hanu’s HydraTubes bestow an arsenal of customizable percolation and diffusion options suitable for a range of inhalation styles and preferences.

With the Petra, you take in all those same components, but you’re putting the concentrate into this mica-encapsulated chamber, where you have an all-glass air path that is one of the best surfaces for heating, and one of the safest. Those components with our perpetual heating system allow the dab rig, when we drop that nail in or we drop a basket for flower, that convection air circulates around the actual product. The oil begins to sublimate, or the vapor begins to make it through the flower, and it releases all those molecules that are found in the cannabis plant. And because of our glass air hydro tubes, when you pop those on, it basically filters it through water, and gives you one of the fastest and cleanest hits you’ve ever experienced.

The Future of Cannabis: Perspectives from Industry Leaders

Ricardo Willis, CEO at Hanu Labs

Willis: Hotels and restaurants are a big thing for me. I talked to a few people last night who own a restaurant in Oklahoma, and they’ve gotten one of the first permits to be able to include cannabis offerings in their restaurant. Our products fit well in resort, hotel, or restaurant settings, especially when you want to offer customers a safer device to use. Having been a chef, I can just imagine all this food on the table and then having a vaporizer that is portable flip over on the table, ruining everything. So, I want something that’s stationary. It’s right there, as the centerpiece. Also, people are going to use cannabis in these places, like hotels no matter what. So, do I want somebody using a blowtorch to light their rig? Or do I want someone using a safe device that has automatic shut off and things of that nature. So that’s important.

Lastly, pricing is a trend that I’m following closely. We’ve seen a huge dip in the pricing in California flower. I want to see if that trend is going to matriculate over to the concentrates, which is one of my favorite spaces because I’m a dabber. I know that vape carts are losing some steam in the pricing categories. We saw one-gram carts that were $60, several months ago. Now companies are offering one-gram carts at $28. It’s going to affect the industry.

Convection heating & all glass pathway sound good, curious to learn more about the "mica-encapsulated chamber"

Has anyone been able to confirm that this is still on track for December shipping, everything in that press release or article is the same stuff that Ricardo has been repeating since the launch of the project?

Okay, so I finally got an answer from Ricardo, not pleased but I guess it's to be expected given the global logistics and parts shortage. Not sure what parts they would need for the Petra, but at least it's a somewhat reasonable explanation. I am inclined to wait, the evo is already quite good, I was really looking forward to this.

to me, support

Hi Seth, I apologize for the delay. Please work with me on this, we’re going to get this done. We hit a few bumps in the road.
First, I would like to thank you for being a loyal customer of Hanu Labs and for purchasing our Limited Edition Evo Petra. A few of you have been asking about when to expect your device in the mail, and we are here to provide an official update.

Hanu Labs has always been proud of the fact that all of our products are assembled in the USA, but in light of the pandemic, getting the parts we need to manufacture our devices has become increasingly difficult. During this uphill battle many industries in manufacturing are facing, we have experienced delays in shipping and changes across the supply chain, putting us in a challenging position as a small business. Several of the key components for the assembly have not arrived yet and we’ve been informed that delays are imminent.

That said, we’ve had to push back the shipping date for the Evo Petra. Our intention was to have all of the devices shipped out by December 5th, but once the holiday rolled around, we were informed of some issues with shipping.

At this point in time, we are anticipating a ship date of February 15th for pre-sale orders, with delivery times varying between 5-7 days. We sincerely apologize for this delay and are happy to answer any questions or address concerns you may have about this change.
You may be wondering, Is there any good news…?

YES! For starters, we promise you that your Evo Petra WILL be in your hands soon, just not as soon as we had anticipated. Also, in exchange for your understanding, patience, and loyalty as part of the Hanu family, we want to make it up to you with a few special offers.
With code DELAY30, you’ll receive a $30 in-store credit gift off your next order. Also, you will receive 1 free bamboo repair on any EVO device. If you elect to receive the EVO Crown Hydratube, those pieces are ready to be shipped out, so please let us know if you’d like your glass and we will get those pieces sent to you ASAP.

Lastly, we do hope you’re still interested in receiving a device, but we understand that this delay is not ideal, so if you would prefer to cancel your order and receive a refund, that can be arranged. However, since we are a small operation, it may take between 30-45 days for the refund to show up in your account. If this is of interest, please let us know and we will get back to you with details.

Thank you again for your understanding and support!
Cheers,
Ricardo Willis

I wrote back to ask if they sold all 500 units, and if they have the cash to do the production yet or if they are still in need of cash, and have yet to receive a reply. I'm okay with a logistics delay, but Feb is Chinese NY so Jan and Feb will only be worse than now, and with no response to that question 10 seconds after that email, but he did respond saying I could post it on FC ( I asked to not just slam his email up here ), that is making me a bit uncomfortable. If he responded that they have secured the funds. I would be okay, CNY will make it a real challenge but they have sold 500 and have the funds so this is happening. The lack of response to that, while agreeing to let me post his email is either a huge oversite or just choosing to disregard that question. Refunds he said would take 45 days, so we're in the same boat. Anyway, it was 2:300 AM his time let's hope he responds to that affirmatively today.

CNY should have no impact on pre-orders. A likely timeline seems to be materials are currently en route (delayed by pre-existing manufacturing issues exacerbated by the typical holiday crunch), they need to arrive and be assembled, and then shipped out.

Everything I've read has them claiming to be assembling these stateside. It's entirely conceivable everything is "done" except for whatever chips they need for the heating control module--similar to the auto manufacturers with fields of vehicles that are 90%+ complete waiting for final assembly.

If these were being assembled and shipped out from China then we'd have to deal with pandemic issues, chip shortages, shipping delays, holidays, *and* CNY but the current timeline suggests the bulk of the orders are complete. Almost a month of the time between mid-December and mid-February is shipping alone.

Why would they avoid the question if they have sold enough to cover the 500 they needed to sell to have the funds to complete the project then? That's just strange, they replied to everything else. I'm not canceling but I live in Asia, everything shuts down after January mid to late February with all the various holidays and CNY. I am fairly confident in saying that receiving parts or chips from China would be very unlikely in the first quarter of the year. Also, when asked if they have secured the funds for the project they don't respond, they made it very clear initially that they cannot complete this project without the funds from selling 500 units. With no further development and still only a single prototype it's looking pretty shakey to me IMHO. I hope they succeed as I really want one.

You also need to remember parts for 500 units will not have priority with any chip vendor, so anyone actually getting parts would be the people with much larger orders first, if that's really what the hold up is.

I could be very far off base though, I really hope I am.

@bkkbob It is indeed weird that a company that has the money to purchase the VXL and also earns money from other products like pod vapes ,needs to crowdfund 500 pieces. 45 days for refund sounds more like a scare tactic, but i am no expert on refund times.
Just looked at the site ...

""VOLTAGE REQUIREMENTS: 110V unit exclusively for use in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Not to be used with any type of power inverter or converter.
Hurry up! Only 428 Items left in stock.""
This might be the answer to your question..... LOL.....
If their site is correct, from September til now they have sold 72 pre-orders.

If I don't hear back by the 10th I am going to email again. If I don't hear back after that I am going to request a refund even if I have to wait 45 days. Giving the due diligence to the company and the benefit of the doubt add a little patience. I guess we will see.

I understand what you're saying. The point I was trying to explain was that if they are anticipating a mid-February delivery then they already have the parts or the parts are already en route. They still need to be assembled here in the US.

Unless they are doing final assembly in China, in which case they'd still need to have them fully assembled and on a container at the start of January in order to get them out to customers early Feb. That is, if they were doing manufacturing through January they wouldn't be able to get them out to customers mid-Feb even without Chinese New Year.

Otherwise, I agree there are only a few weeks of working days left in China.

I am no big in technical knowledge, but i think that EVO is driven by a voltage/power regulator/rheostat. I dunno what chips are you imagining ,different than the controller on your logvape, just that they are high voltage, like the drill/fan/rotor speed controllers. There might be some custom electronics but i am pretty sure there is nothing "smart" in it.
Hopefully Hanulabs will decide to give disclosure on the situation. FC peeps are known to endure crazy long wait times and hanging on order lists for years, but if you really want to loose them ,you should try to bullshit them. I am pretty sure you dont wont be one of the companies that bought a good name, built with hard labour and dedication ,only to run it in the ground. (like the mCig guys that bought Vapolution).

Shipping issues notwithstanding, think I still want one. I didn’t Pre-order. I’m just learning about it today. My 2nd gen is still producing ridiculous vapor but I’m the kinda guy who needs a backup to the things I’ve decided that I NEED in my life. When I got my 2nd gen, I felt that need and got Flowerpot as backup to Cloud Evo. FP is phenomenal! But Evo vapor quality is even better (IMO) and I’m a klutz so I really do want another Evo device in case I manage to break my current one. And I’ve been looking for more Vapexhale products (mostly accessories) for a while so I’m excited for what I hope is an upgrade in materials in a new and improved version. Hopefully a bit more rugged. So I too would like more details on the Hanu. Fingers crossed.

In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king
I purchased my EVO when someone who I greatly respect suggested the EVO. I started at the beginning and read it all. When I was about half way through all the posts I mentioned that there was no way I'd be buying the EVO with what I read because customer care is key. I was told to keep reading because things have changed and I'd be missing out on a great vape. I continued reading past the early adopter horrors and when I finished catching up on the EVO thread I immediately bought me an EVO.

There's a slight deja vu quality to where HANU is now and the EVO's original history.
