Concentrates for Noobs - Q&A

So seriously, what am I missing here? I've recently compared very good hash rosin and bubble hash ("full melt" or whatever the kids call it) vs flower rosin, and here's my semi-educated at best opinion: flower rosin (low THC or CBD comparatively) is dirty as hell but tastes great and gives me great effects; high-THC hash rosin reminds me of distillates... it's just too clean or something...

Are you sure it was very good hash?

Personally I can't imagine flower rosin being better than great full melt.

Full melt is the only true full spectrum dabbable out there. It's nothing like diamonds which are fractionated, as full melt is unheated in tact trichome heads, with every compound still in their natural ratios. IMO full melt has a bordering psychedelic aspect to it. For me it doesn't get any better, it's like dabbing flower. All the best parts of flower and concentrates in one.

Hash rosin is great too, but in some ways it's even more ambiguous than flower rosin as hash can really be any grade. And the rosin is only as good as the starting material. Flower rosin is cool as it's fast and easy, but for me the dirtiness has a real affect on the flavor, I just feel like I can taste the gunk with these high fidelity dabbing apparatuses.

Also everything tasting like lemons is a BHO thing from CRC filtering, it's pretty awful. I feel like BHO has gone way down hill, used to get some great butane extracts in the medical era but now with recreational the market seems to have tanked to the lowest common denominator.

Right! That's what's been annoying to me. I can totally see it being a WA state thing, except we generally have pretty solid products. It's not as cheap as OR, but we can get very high quality flower and concentrates (generally). So yeah, I bought the good stuff for incredibly premium prices. From a dude I trust. He told me it wasn't worth the price difference from what I was already using, so...

I suspect this is part of the problem... the actual full melt (or six star or whatever the fuck it's called) was from a boring ass strain that was marginally within my wheelhouse (terps and cannabinoids-wise). They just didn't have anything super interesting (to me).

And yeah, flower rosin is dirty and tastes... well, closer to flower to me! And I actually quite like that. I'm starting to suspect that I just don't have the palate for it. I enjoy vaping flower (for taste) far more than any concentrate I've come across in any form. What I do like about concentrates is being able to fill my dab rig with medicine and get it in me in less than five minutes. The only huge difference I've noticed is that the actual old-school BHO wax (the stuff I decarb and use for edibles) is going nowhere near my atomizers, dishes, or even straws. That shit is nasty to try to dab.

So, I stick to live resins almost exclusively, and flower rosin when I can get it. They just... taste better, to me.

I def appreciate the cleanliness of (usually "live") hash rosin over flower rosin... that said, all hash rosin, and flower, is at a premium and often at least 2x the cost of quality live resin (in Maine) so it's def more of a luxury... Luckily, it seems CRC is primarily used only for the even cheaper "sugars", "badders" and I'd guess cart filling "material"(?)... it is usually labeled as "refined" before the type of consistency. I tried it a few times here and there... but never again! It's all harsh and weird... nope. "Bubble" or "full-melt" is a rarity everywhere around here unfortunately...

Even if you think you don’t have the palette for it today, it doesn’t mean you won’t tomorrow! That’s why I laugh when people talk about “end game vaporizers” because it suggests people’s tastes don’t change over time, which they do! When I was exclusively vaping flower rosin and doing testing for Dabpress, I had made and tried a few different hash rosins that weren’t really any better than my flower presses, and I was able to compartmentalize it away for a while. But I think it was some GMO hash rosin that made me fall completely in love with it. For me it’s largely a perceived potency perspective (say that 3 times fast ) the strongest dabs I’ve ever had were from full melt and hash rosin. I also find full melt fascinating as it seems to vaporize at lower temperatures than any other concentrate, even rosin presses from said melt, which I don’t really understand.

If you want the closest taste to flower you’d vape, I find it best to skip the “live” extracts as the signature flavor of dank herb comes from the drying/curing process.

The large batch process of live resin definitely makes it much more affordable for sure, I like to vape live resin in cartridges these days, Pretty easy to make by melting down and filling.

Along this same line of finalization of thought without considering tomorrow...
I have a patient that has changed directions a number of times, but does not see the bigger picture.
I have gotten him a DBV a half dozen times, and various "pens" and electronic wax devices.
He has indicated that he does not want to deprive another patient, so when he changes course,
he will tell me: "I want to donate my Da Buddah... I am switching to concentrates.... Can you get me a wax pen?"
A few months later I will get a call: "Do you have, or can you get a DBV?"
I've told him regularly that he may keep two tools, but he never believes that he will return to Flower or wax (whichever he has just switched from).
He has been given the same DBV 6 or 7 times
About 4 months ago, I broke the cycle.
He was with a da Buddha, and asked for a concentrate tool.
I brought him an Aovape Canva that he gave back to me a while back.
As he tried to pass me a DBV bag... I lifted my hands and said.. "Sorry, I can not take your vaporizer... you're going
to have to store it yourself... you've got many rooms here and I live in a very small space".
That's why I appreciated @invertedisdead 's comment.
That’s why I laugh when people talk about “end game vaporizers” because it suggests people’s tastes don’t change over time
And our tools change also.... Vapes we love become obsolete or upgraded.
Vaporization and tools go well with open minded folks!

Well... so, I did a deep clean of all my glass, dab rig, dropdowns, and a bunch of other stuff. And you know what?

Turns out my Kimbo Kush hash rosin tastes better than I was giving it credit for...

but so does the flower rosin which is even super tastier than before!!!!!!!!!

I think I must be a philistine. I really like the "full flavor" of the flower haha. It's a little barnyardy, a lot grassier (as opposed to "gassier," whatever that is supposed to be other than marketing language), and just dirtier than the hash rosin (and live resins too). Turns out, I like riding dirty I guess... Also probably a combination of which strains, quality, etc. I do enjoy my concentrates, but I'm primarily a dry herber. I started (like a lot of medical users) on the bad advice of a dispensarist (sp?) with edibles and distillate cartridges and later discovered dry herb and dabbing from going to forums and Reddit.

I will buy more hash rosin in the future (or hopefully make it my own damn self if the feds or my state ever gets their respective heads out of their respective asses and lets me grow, man), when in funds. And hopefully I will have developed a fine palate capable of appreciating horrifyingly priced luxuries. In the meantime, I'll enjoy my down and dirty flower rosin, some on-sale live resins, and whatever else I can afford to supplement my dry herb without breaking the bank

And our tools change also.... Vapes we love become obsolete or upgraded.

This is so, so true. In something like 15 months of medical cannabis use, I've changed the vapes I use daily and bought new (and better for me) tools. So @Vitolo, how do I go about getting you and your peeps some vapes I don't use too much any more? And do you take glass donations as well?

We get some real hash in California but nothing like the Canadian market. I think most hash lovers spin up their own. It's actually easier to find very high grade full melt "dab ready" hash then more average grades.
Yup.

I've read that 80% of the worlds hash is made in Morocco and countries with a land route to Morocco are the countries that get the most hash and are the places where many mix it with tobacco and have for ages.

I learned to make BHO because of this.

In Illinois, NuEra has a few different offerings but I've not yet gotten my hands on any though...

Check out the Illinois and Weed thread, there may be a review or two in there.

Ahh the 1960s....
We could get Nepalese Temple balls.... Hash "fingers" from Hymala
Water based or oil based slabs, with seals stamped on them from the market, and the table they were sold at...
Lebanese Blonde, and Lebanese red...
Moroccan slabs 1/2 inch thick.
Crude Turkish slabs..
Because of who I knew in my youth, Flower was hard to get, while Hashish from the middle east and the mountains
was abundant and innexpensive.
I was a Hashish eater before I became a "pothead".
I like flower much better.
Still I would love to use natural hashish again.
On an empty stomache, I would drop a gram of Hashish in a shot glass of boiling water and poke it around until it
was all loose. I'd chug the shot glass, chug a glass of Grapefruit juice, and wait for the fun
to start!

In high school back in the 70s hash was easy to come by. Much of it came home with soldiers coming back from southeast Asia and the middle east. I knew a guy who was a few years older and had a bunch of friends in the military and he got about 1/2 LB of black opiated hash that was the best I have ever had, before or since. I helped him move a bunch of it so it ended up mostly free for me. My god I miss that stuff. We consumed so much of it that summer that we felt like we went through a little withdrawal when we finally ran out of it. I would pay way more than I like to to get my hands on some of that, but I don't expect to ever see the like of it again.

I have been looking for hash from the dispensaries around here (Illinois) and nobody seems to have any. Crumble seems about as close as I can get, and it's not very close. Is it regularly available in other states?
Southern California dispensaries have PLENTY!
AFAGANI during the Dazed & Confused ERA. (Illegal)
2-day CANNABIS is CIVILIZED including bye-product!

Yeah I pissed on the rug...... so what
I was dubious about the full melt hash I could get here in Ontario but I had to try and see. took me 5 minutes to figure out how to open the stupid container  then I saw it?...... looked like a frozen pile of kief ?......... it was firm?.......... I'm more dubious !!!!! but hey I spent $40 on the gram and its not like im not going to try! so I use my metal delta 3D scoop and take off a half rice grain piece and put it in my bowle and maxed the temp first hit was pretty big?..... flavourful ?.......... I remove the stem and the piece is still there on top of the cotton?????? same looking?!?!?!? took another couple of hits and looked again ........... same!!!!!! I take my pick and poke it and it crumbles into powder:mad::disgust::cuss: this is not full melt!!!!!! what a rip off! I was a little disappointed but I did get a couple nice hits and the effects were also nice. but while I was messing around with my bowle my Vrod was warming up......... one last try................. I take a rice grain and a half piece and drop it in my quartz dish throw on the carb cap, and start my draw......... got a wispy hit..... this is it its not really vaping 😫 probably burning to the dish! I remove the cap, there's nothing in the dish?????? what kind of sorcery is this? I look at my cap and its stuck to it ?????? I touch it and its soft and sticky so I scrape it off with my pick and put it back in the dish , cap on and start drawing slowly and the cloud starts to build and I get a really nice hit! I look and it looks empty in the bad lighting but I see vapour coming off the dish so I cap and hit but its all wsip. I take a better look and there's just a slight sticky smudge on the dish, I clean up. that hit begins to kick...... very nice:smug: so I guess it is full melt after all

Yeah I had a similar experience in the 70's as well. It seemed like hash was everywhere for several years and then it just disappeared. It's too bad, I really liked most of the hash we consumed way back when. We always used to do hash under glass, great times.

Yeah I pissed on the rug...... so what
for some reason I thought it was @pakalolo ???? whoever post I saw was incredible !

had a big fat half pinky nail sized piece of that vortex bubble hash in the Vrod and it might have been the best dabbing experience I've ever had! 625 on the pid and one massive and one so so hit later I'm way baked and feeling great! feels like I smoked a big 2 paper joint!

Don't waste it by putting it in a vaporizer... use a rig, or even better- a Quasar bowl for a hookah
As I said I went to the dispensary looking for hash the other day and on finding none I was ready to leave but I decided to look around a little and ended up in a conversation with a bud tender. He talked me into trying some Badder. Ha'tuh is the strain I think. I haven't tried it yet, but I am planning to put it on top of a load of flower in the Lotus or maybe a Splinter Z much like I do with crumble when I have it. I don't have a dabbing rig or anything other than flower vapes (see spoiler) but is there a better way to try this without dedicated eqip for dabbing? I'm thinking the Lotus especially may do the trick.
We always used to do hash under glass, great times.
We smoked it mostly in pipes made from lamp parts, but occasionally squished it between hot knives. My Mom used to get sooo pissed about the knives I took a pair and kept them in my room...

The good old days...
