Rio Portable Dab Rig by Stache Products

Well I've got all the popular 510 devices, good mods, and some little hydratubes for them, and yet when I recently dropped the little glass Rio rig piece while cleaning I immediately ordered a new one shipped to Canada.

Rio isn't for everyone, it's frankly an insane and janky looking product that I'm sure would horrify any liability lawyer you showed it to, but there's very good reason the people who like it like it a lot: It's an actual for real baby torch and banger dab rig and none of the similarly sized erigs on the market or 510 rigs can match it if you want to rip crazy dabs.

I was really digging my RIO, it was such a intuitive, easy way to dab. I had been using both a mininail or a torch with quartz insert happily for a couple years, but I made the leap to mix things up with a RIO purchase when the price was right. After several weeks of use, my glass was looking cruddy. I made the mistake of trying to lift the glass out of the base by the stem, and it snapped off at the weld. I figured it was a cheap replacement until I looked at the Stache website. A $60 replacement for the glass? I thoughts maybe an upgrade for colored or frosted glass would ease the tragedy but they haven’t had any for the several months I checked so this sucker is away in the drawer with all my other acquisitions that didn’t seem to work in my favor. Far from robust, these glsss pieces are too fragile for anyone who might try and pull it out of the resin block to clean. I own dozens of glass pieces so I know how to handle it, maybe I had a weak piece? Sorry to sour grape the party but mine was a 4/10

Why can't you use any other 14mm banger? Does the stache model have an unusual bend angle to make it operational with the included torch?

If you tried to lift it out by the stem, then no I would not say you know how to handle glass correctly. Any joint like that is going to be a weak point. And the fit is tight enough (a good thing in general so it doesn't fall apart) that some force is needed to remove the base. To pull by anything other than the body of the glass is asking for trouble.

And for the complexity of the glass and need for consistency to meet tolerances for base and correct banger placement over the lighter, $60 feels about right to me.

I'd probably buy a replacement, but sounds like you could also find a local blower to easily replace or fix the old mouthpiece.
If you are feeling creative, find a local to put on a tall 12-14" mouthpiece to increase the volume and cooling.

Duh, OK, I was looking for an entire forum, not a thread. Sorry 'bout that. If you want you can delete that post (and this one). Thanks

Hi Rio Lovers! I have never “dabbed” before and was considering a Rio and had a couple questions. Are many of you using it as a water piece with other devices? I wondered if my Lotus and WPA would pair up with it okay. Also do these work okay heating distillate, namely CBD and Delta8 distillate? It is not in solid form like one would start with wax or shatter so I wasn’t fully sure. I located a Rio Makeover at a LHS for under $160 OTD but needed more info before making a purchase. Thanks in advance!

Mostly because I have a backup RiO bubbler (original one was replaced by PIU due to a slightly off joint), I do use the bubbler fairly often as a standalone water piece. It's great with dynavaps or a terp pen, etc. There are some devices that don't work well with it ergonomically though, such as a JetDryV, Flip Brick, etc. due to being so close to the face. Not sure if the torch would get in the way if using while in the base, but otherwise I do find it to be a nice little water piece! Per your other question, not sure about distillate but it works well with Delta8-infused or CBD wax, sauce, etc.

I seem to rave about my RiOs in all threads other than this one... I LOVE this device, and currently have an OG and a Makeover. About 90% of my use is paired with round bottom 710 quartz, a single ruby and a OneTrickPony spinner cap.

It is my end of days piece, perfect for all scenarios, off grid, etc.

My brother in law is having trouble getting good results from his rio.

He says that he loads his concentrate on the side of the core and heats until he starts to see some vapor form after melting.

He says he often finds that his concentrate runs up the side of his banger and he says he doesn't get much vapor production

Any body got any good advice? Everything I've tried with him has not helped and he's frustrated

I like to heat and watch the boiling and bubbling of the oil, as soon as the rising bubbles in the oil slow down, cut the heat and inhale. I also strongly recommend a ball cap and chuck the one that came with the Rio in the trash. If he’s using the original cap that’s probably what’s causing him troubles

I appreciate this thread. It helped me make my decision to purchase a RiO and I'm glad I did. After several years of trying different dab rigs the RiO is my favorite.

My only complaint is the banger that is included. I like using a frosted bottom banger, because it makes it easier for me to get a slow start and enjoy the flavors. I think @FlyingLow may have mentioned this round and frosted bottom banger from Sneaky Pete somewhere on the forum, I cannot remember, but someone suggested it and I have been using it ever since.

My problem is that I cannot find it for sale anymore. Sneaky pete hasn't had them for over a year. I found them about 6 months ago at
https://vapenorth.ca/collections/al...d-start-premium-banger?variant=31611024638030

I went back to vapenorth today and they had them on sale so I added one to my cart, but during checkout I was told that they do not ship bangers to the USA. I have looked all over trying to find another supplier. Anyone know where I can find these?

Took a chance on the Bear Glass blender base banger that is on sale at 420 Science and really like it so far. Top you can just cap with a marble, and throw a pearl or so in there, But really dig both the quality of the hits and the ease of not needing to worry about carb cab since airflow is coming through those bottom blender vents. Great hit and lots of ergonomic convenience factors here too. A relief to find that the space between the blender base was a good useable distance from the RIO torch.

Looks cool, I put an order in with their 1 inch marble cap. Do you still cold start with this banger?
