Induction Heater ClickAndGo by Katalyzer

Just curious and cautious of trying, I have a charger that charges my phone in a way faster time than the charger that was supplied so it must charge it quicker?

I bought the Sideclick from Vapefiend and it comes with "Hot Fire Pro Induction Heater Instructions". These advise: "Only use a pwer supply rated at 5V with 2amp or less. Chargers with multiple voltage options may not work. For the fastest charging use a 5V 2amp USB power supply."

I have a 65w USB-C charger for a laptop that can output multiple different voltages so I am going to avoid plugging that into the heater, just in case. It could possibly damage it. I have charged my heater once, it took less than an hour from dead to full using a 5V 2amp phone charger.

I wrote a first-impressions review in the Dynavap thread, I hope it is OK to copy it over here:

Sideclick heater: I was very excited to see this recently. Over the past 6 months I have built a few of my own induction heaters which are mains-powered and I use at home, a lockdown project. I have been looking at building a battery powered one, but there had been a few hurdles. The Sideclick was so attractive because it’s smaller than I could realistically do with a ZVS module myself, and implemented features I’d love to like intelligent activation and USB-C charging. Vapefiend had a 20% off offer so at about £85 it seemed perfect.

It arrived yesterday. Again I am very happy with my purchase. The build quality is great, pretty solid. I love the design with the stash compartment. The magnet is very good, a very strong diametrically opposed piece. It’s a bit weighty but not a problem, it will go in a bag and replace the Mighty as my usual out-and-about vape. It’s a consequence of the metal build, and I would choose metal against a lighter, more easily damaged plastic most times I think.

I have to confess I did not even try it with the short tube, I swapped it for the open tube as most people advise before I heated a cap. The inside looks very neat. I note the battery is connected via a plug, I wonder if it will be possible to replace it?

I found that I needed 3 silicone discs in the end to get the click right, otherwise it goes a bit too far in. I like the adjustability/tuning the unit has, so you can match it to your tips, caps, and personal requirements.

I have a couple of good regular caps, as well as one captive cap. I found if I pair my hotter regular cap with a titanium tip, the first cycle takes just under 8 seconds, and it gives good extraction in about 4 cycles true to the click. I will keep my 2020 M body with that setup in the side compartment. This is going to improve days out and camping trips a great deal.

A couple of quirks: There is a very slight ticking noise, I can only hear it in a virtually silent room, but it ticks every half a second when it is not heating. It's not a problem in any way, it is unnoticable almost all of the time. The LEDs flash when it turns on, sometimes they flash green and sometimes they flash red. I don't know if it means something e.g. battery level? Or if it's just random, it seems quite random.

Very interesting to see the battery discussion here, hopefully there will be a solution one day. I am not too worried since mine is just for out and about, I will charge it once or twice a week most of the time I expect.

Wall powered would require some wiring and it doesn't sound like you want to do that. These can be hazardous if not done right.

Battery ratings are based on a minimum charge after so many cycles. Typically they rate these cells at 80% capacity after 500 cycles. They still work. Just needs charging more often. Until they do die by swelling to double their size. Then you have a problem. Hence recommended replacement at 80% capacity.
Yeah if there is no portable solution and it could be done I'd just pay someone with the right skills to do it for me, won't be attempting any diy projects myself ;)
Appreciate all the info broski, thanks again.

from dead to full takes like 3+ hours for me, using the default quickcharger that came with it (Qualcomm)

Also do you ever see the blue light flashing? The only time I see the blue light flashing is when all of the sudden I'm without power (battery empty) and I turn the device on again. It will then flash blue, turn on, but has no real power left to do anything, not even 1 click.
Basically if I see the blue light it means 0% left, not 0-30%.

I have never seen a blue light yet just red and green, but I have only run through one charge cycle. I say it was dead by the time I finished and recharged, because I could switch it on, but it would cut out during the first heat cycle. Maybe the battery did not get low enough to show blue? I didn't count clicks but I would guess in the 40-50 range on that first charge. I will have to test it some more!

I didn't use the charger it came with but I used another which I know is a good 5v 2amp charger, I was surprised when it stopped flashing in less than an hour.

Ah didn't realize you just received it, just read your review in the other thread, nice one :)
Yeah 40-50 clicks sounds about right.

That very slight ticking noise (you're right it's not noticeable in every day use) is the sensor checking if a vapcap has been inserted.
The start up colors , red = 70%+ green 70-30% and blue 30-0%. But in my experience, only red is a good indicator, as green can mean anything from 70-0%, and blue never shows up :p..with my unit at least.

Brilliant thank you, I thought there might be a code but it didn't mention it in my version of the instructions.

I charged mine for the second time last night, this time with the included Samsung charger - 1hr 20min this time.

The battery might have been slightly more run through this time. When it cut out, I tried switching it back on a few times, but there was no way I could get another click out of it. I still didn't see any blue.

The only time I get to see the blue light is in the exact same scenario as you posted above.
I wouldn't really worry about it though, the blue indicator is kind of useless on my unit as well ( probably on most/all units I guess).

More testing. I love science.

My 3rd charge cycle gave a total of 63 clicks on my tally. These were all with a titanium tip. It was a total of 13 caps extracted, plus a couple of demo clicks showing off to a friend, before it died during the 14th. Each cap was done from cold, none were back to back. I switched the machine off between each capful. I experimented with going beyond the click, I found that I got good results with an extra half a blink of the light for the first couple of cycles, then two or three more cycles which are true to the click - 4 or 5 cycles in total. Any more and it would get scorched.

When I did the first 6 caps/27 clicks it was flashing red during switch on. The last 7 caps/36 clicks showed green. So it seems the battery indicator changes shortly before it drops to half capacity in real use, for me at least. That's quite useful actually.

No blue LED showing. I am absolutely not worried about it, if I want to watch something with nice flashing lights instead of quickly vape and get on with my life, I have a Pax ;)

It charged up again with the included charger in exactly an hour. Overall I am blown away with this heater and the value it offers.

I got the "vapeheater" few times ago.

I made tests :
- To configure it (2 silicone parts) and
- To verify the battery efficiency : 55 cliks (left side on paper) and 49 draws (because of few pre-heats at the 1st click) - total : 11 charges (6 with SS19 tip, 5 with ti tip)
- Leds code doesn't work (= only green and red light).
- Recharged in 2,30 hours on mains.

As it was said by others, the quality seems to be good for the price (i paid 90€ on Vapefully), portability too (even if it's a little heavy).
I noticed that the IH heats not totally uniformly (a little aggressive on the edges) and that it doesn't give me the same efficiency as heating with a torch, I'm still looking for the right technique (as I had to do with my desktop one).
For the moment the vapor lacks body in my opinion. maybe this is a limitation of a portable IH?
Overall I am happy with this IH

I'm getting clouds comparable to torch clouds with 2 silicon pads and SS tip. I almost always go 1-2 sec past the click though(2019 cap). I haven't been back to torch since I got this IH, nor do I want to go back. :p
Btw I switched usb-c cables (not charger, just the cable) and my charge time has now dropped to under 1.5hrs.

Here's a look at this French made heater along with some of my initial impressions.

Ordered May 3rd. $165 includes $25 shipping and the $5 my bank charged for the currency exchange.

Shipped from Paris. Arrived the 7th via Fedex.

White Box

Here's the contents of the box.

Contents

Looks like it included a spare heater chamber and 3 spare silicone pads.

Booklet

The crossed out part reads, "Blue Flash 30%-0%".

It goes from green when not in use to flashing red for each second it's heating.

Magnetic catch for DynaVap stash spot. Waiting on some straight glass stems I ordered that will likely fit in it. For now, I'm using the Viper stem.

Grippy soft feets.

Freehand Vap Stand

You can just balance your DynaVap and it will do the rest. My only experience with induction heaters prior is with a one time use of a Portside Mini, and the (troubled) 2021 Alpine I have.

I like it's size and weight. It's surprisingly light. The build quality feels pretty solid. The stash spot was an attractive feature though the magnet on the little door is a little weak maybe. The magnet on top for cooling is in contrast the strongest magnet of the 3 I have and it's definitely larger. The speed and top temp of the heater is very close to that of the Alpine. Full cycles produces clouds. Not pressing down is actually kinda nice. Can multitask a little bit while it heats. One odd thing.... There is a faint sound emanating from it when on. Like a ticking sound. No idea if other heaters have been known to make any sound. No idea if this is a sign there may be a problem with it. Just going to use it as is and hope it doesn't explode I guess.

That's my 2 cents so far.

Cheers!

Thanks for the heads up about these sister models to my FTV, and for merging the topics.

From the looks of it these are all nearly the same except for the outer case. The FTV seems to be a little more slim and personally I like the aluminum finish. The extra large magnet is strong enough to pull my relatively tight fitting cap off. Which I like for being able to clean my Dynacoil and load a little faster.

It seems to be a common "misprint" that they are 3000 mAh.... not sure what to make of that. I'm curious to try to charge it via USB portable power bank. I assume it will. It's one of the reasons I bought it, to be able to charge it anywhere.

I didn't count the amount clicks or caps I got from the charge it came with but it charged from dead in about 1.5 hours using a 5V 2amp plug from a cell phone charger. No blue light was seen in lowest battery status and this was in fact crossed out of the little manual it came with.

It's 107 Euro on their website. I see someone got the Vape Heater for 90 Euro, but it's currently listed at 129 Euro.

I hope a double post isn't too frowned upon here....

*I got 33.5 full heat cycles from a full charge.

I tried to see if it would charge normally from my 12000mAh powerbank and so I plugged it into the 5V 1A USB to be safe. (There's a 5V 2.1A, but the booklet said nothing over 5V 2A). But ever since I did so, it doesn't stop flashing when it reaches fully charged. While charging it should be flashing red in the heater and then stay solid red when done. 2 charges after trying it on the powerbank and it hasn't done so since. One of those charges was overnight.

I'm going to see what happens if I try to get a full charge from the powerbank. Maybe that will "reset" it somehow. I wish the tech for these things was more reliable/infallible.

Received the Cuboo on Wednesday, really happy to have it before the long weekend! It's a nice bit of kit, although it has some quirks.

I charged mine upon arrival and got the flashing red light. 3 hours later still flashing, this can't be right for a 1000 mAh LiPo pack? I thought I should just try it out at this stage so didn't really pay much attention to it.

Yesterday it needed a new charge (I supposed, didn't have a clue tbh) and left it plugged in for a few hours until I took it with me to a friend's house. Still no sign of a fully charged battery so took the charger with me. After about 35 clicks the device was out of juice, but this was announced by a blue light just before shutting off. Quite useless, most of the time I know when a battery is at 0% because it won't power on  today I swapped out the 12V adapter with the one from my Samsung phone and after 10-15 minutes I FINALLY got a solid red light. So fair to say that the adapter isn't the best by any means. Just bin it.

As for the heating itself: it's doing really well! I swapped out the stock tube for the one included in the package and ran it with 2 pads at the start. I went through 7 clicks on my 21 Omni (and respecting it) and the bud was still light brown with definitely more to give. I'll need to go past the click for sure. 1 pad seems to be too aggressive, certainly with a regular cap and back to back heat cycles. This is a very good setting for a 20M though!

I tried to find my sweet spot with 1 pad in place but I wouldn't recommend it if you're using a Ti tip. I swapped out my regular cap for the original captive cap and it seemed to click just a tiny bit earlier, but it's still drawing too much power at this setting. I'm going to run it through the weekend with 2 pads in place and going past the click. This should give me slower (and more even) heating.

All in all I'm really happy with it, but the charger bothers me to bits. LiPo packs are not as safe as for example 18650s (especially when they don't age well) and bad charging will effect battery and device lifetime.

After draining it completely I attempted to charge the FTV to full on the 12000mAh powerbank. Rather than a solid red light, the light was completely off when I awoke. I assume this is due to the powerbank auto off function once the FTV stopped drawing a charge. I once again used the heater until it ran out of juice and charged it via a 5V 2A phone charger and once again the light never ceased to flash.

Before I plugged it into the powerbank it functioned as intended. I am totally guessing here but I want to assume something changed with the software after being plugged into a slow charge USB. I have also never seen the elusive blue light of death.

I haven't tried the alternate glass tube or silicone bumps, just running it stock I guess.

Full heat cycles can run a bit hot. I definitely torched my throat a couple times even with viper stem and A LOT of ice in my rig. Also I am not loading with flower but using a Dynacoil with my homemade BHO (often mixing CBD, CBN, CBG, or CBDV into my dabs).

So far the only advantage the Alpine I own has is charge time. But for me, just having more ways to charge the FTV on the go makes it superior. I am pretty satisfied with the FTV asa whole. The uniform black metallic look, the function, the low profile "horizontal configuration", large magnet, stash spot, no button activation, and flexible charging, makes it a pretty good choice at the price point.

SO, I realized I had not thought to charge the FTV via PC USB and figured I would see if that got me the steady red 100% charge light back.

I had not drained the battery 100% but it was likely well under 50% when I plugged it into what I believe was one of my USB 2.0 ports on my PC. I set an alarm on my phone for 1.5 hours, the complete charge time from dead. At about an hour's time I checked it and boom, solid red light.

I'll try wall charge again next and see if solid light sticks or if it goes back to flashing forever... It's all heater firmware shenanigans I presume.

I badly want an IH, and the only available in my country which attracted my eyes and wallet, were this FTV Go.
So, @VapeEscapist , how its going ? I know that @Steamer returned his Katalyzer, due to those led lights troubles (if I remember correctly). And some reviews I've read on sellers sites, also tells that theres a problem with led lights (on the Katalyzer's page).

A comment on the sellers site about Katalyzer:

@Hawaiian

Honestly, I love this thing. The freehand operation, magnet's strength for pulling a hot cap off, and the rapid cap cooling of the magnet set in a full aluminum body make it best in form and function that I've tried.

The only issue I have is that the red LED doesn't go from flashing to solid to indicate full charge. Of the 4 different ways I've charged this thing (power bank, phone charger, PC USB 2.0, PC USB 3.0) none of them give me the solid light consistently and I think I've only seen the solid light 3 times in total and that was literally the first 2 charges and then the first time I charged via USB 2.0.

The manual says 1.5 hours to charge. The few times I got the solid light, it took about 1.5 hours. So, I just make sure I unplug it after 1.5 hours and it does seem to have the full +-30 heat cycles of a full charge.

If I charge it via my power bank, it does stop drawing a charge at full and then both things essentially turn off altogether. If I wanted to be anal about battery conditioning etc I guess I could always charge it via my power bank but that seems unnecessary. I want to believe that the light flashing is cosmetic and not an indication that the unit is damaging itself somehow by still drawing a charge but I guess either is just as likely.

The much faster cooling of the cap alone is really great. If the way the light functions doesn't scare you off, or the possibility that the light is an indication of a deeper problem doesn't give you too much pause, I would strongly recommend this heater.

I was wondering if some glorious nerd here might be able to make firmware for this thing based on the fact that it charges via USB C? Maybe an update/fix will make the light function as intended?

....haha, it's like the damn thing read my post. Just got the solid red light again from PC USB 2.0.

No idea how long it took. Plugged it in and went about my afternoon.

Checked it just now after what was like 5 hours and... solid red light.

Strange! So the only problem with this IH, is the led light blinking even at full charge, right ? I will send them an email, to see what they say.
It's a lil huge for a portable device aswell. But no way I put 200€ in an IH.. :tinfoil:

Hello! I just got one of these units however I have found that after a while, while still on green battery it will just stop working, as in I put in the vapcap and as soon as I do it will just shut down, after charging however it does seem to go back to normal until it happens again, any thoughts?

Cheers

Hi @R0cket - it sounds like it is functioning as normal and the battery is simply running out.

There is no blue warning light to show 0-30% battery.

You can see in my manual, the text about the blue light is crossed out. If you're getting +-30 full heat cycles or like 50 clicks, it's working as intended.
