VapCap Induction Heater for Desktop and in Car Use

BabyFacedFinster

Anything worth doing, is worth overdoing.
I didn't know there was a pink after the dark blue. Never took it that far. I was too afraid. How many colors are there?

Another improvement is the strength of the magnet. Try balancing a shellshock on a psm magnet and it's like the container ship above. Not an issue with the HS. In fact, the unlined wood stem I use most is so light that you can set it on the magnet and hold the unit sideways w/o the vapcap falling off.

I just have to get the little bugger seated properly again.

AA (temporary) fix to the falling magnet I found is to press fit a slightly larger diameter magnet (I found
In my small magnet collection).

Because that magnet is seated slightly below the plastic (nothing is ever perfect), another thin, BB smaller
Magnet brings it slightly above the plastic.

With a magnet with the proper height and width, press fitting one should work (for awhile). 💪

 —Or just go out and buy some JB Weld. 💪 ☠️:spliff:

I just realized my cap is taking longer than usual to click, that's why I had to go as far as almost pink. Today it was more obvious because there's nearly a 20 second gap between the two cool down clicks.

Put on a new cap this morning and it clicks way before the dark blue-->pink I was going for before. Now I find the right temperature around the green-->light blue

Strange, I wonder what I did to my previous cap. Gonna start showing the click more respect from now on.

Can anyone check something for me? While your Hotshot is charging can you place your ear to the side and tell me if you hear anything?

I hear ”electronic“ like sounds while the HotShot is charging. Not very loud, however. I presume that they are associated with the charging circuit.

Yeah. Mine clicks right around when it turns blue once the tip is warmed up.

I've found myself "pre-heating", or warming up the herb slowly where I begin by stopping once in early-green and pulling slowly with the airport fully closed, then heating to late-green and pulling with the carb closed or mostly closed (may get some whispy vapor in this one). And then heating till the click (usually comes in early-blue at this point), and then I pull either feathering the airport, or just leaving it fully open and I get a tasty and satisfying hit. From then on I heat till the click. If I set it down and come back later (it completely cools), then I will take those one or two warm-up cycles before the click. I find this results in tastier vapor, and avoids that slightly-charred on the outside I often get when going straight for the click or a couple seconds past to ensure that I get clouds right away.

Is that with it charged? It looks like you trying to get it going while it's dead.?
Please PM if having issues. In your case, I highly suspect the charging is the culprit.
I charged it over night, sat down to see how many clicks I can actually get and got 3 before it died. I did pm, like a rambling g idiot. LoL! I think I have it sorted.

if you’re looking for the best option, the Koppla is cheap and well made.

I wonder if your charger is able to correctly charge your HotShot. What you described as getting 3 before the battery running out of power is what I had happen to me when I used one of my Anker chargers.

Try another charger.

Here's the Anker charger that was under-powered.:

Not what I am hearing. I have never used my HotShot while charging. What I hear are very, very low volume sounds that I can only perceive if I put my ear right by the unit while it’s charging.

I appreciate the awesome size of Pipes latest/greatest MIH, with the addition of a (small) battery indicator
My head would still have some hair left

The Samsung quick charger was the culprit. I remembered having the IKEA Koppla one and within 10 minutes I knew the hotshot was receiving juice - was warm around the connection.

which Samsung quick charger was it? I was planning on using one that I had here at the house and would prefer to avoid that problem if it's the same one.

For a small additional cost, a bundled charger would solve all the issues of finding a proper charger, IMHO.
YMMV

I'll have to chime in and retract my previous vote. After seeing the issues users are having with charging, the small increase in cost would be more than worth it.

Model EP-TA12JWE and model EP—TA200. The TA200 one I just noticed is one of the dual 9V/5V so that’s my bad for not reading right or paying attention, but the first one should have worked and didn’t. The ikea one is 3A and works like a charm.

Model EP-TA12JWE is rated at 1.2A (I believe),
and Model EP-TA200 is rated at 2.0A, if the coding is what I think it is.

Mine reads EP-TA20JWE, also marked, OUTPUT 5.0V 2.0A, (9.0V 1.67A), a dually

Your 3.0A should charge a bit faster, with the exchange/payoff being, a bit faster degrading of your battery.

You will not quick-charge at the 12-volt side or output of the converter as it cuts out around 2 amps on the input. The actual battery will be getting under 5/12.6th of the input current. As long as the converter is maxed out at 2 amps the charge will be around 700-800 mA. This is a very healthy charge rate for the 3S battery. However, a 3 amp unit will be a better bet if buying a charger is not already proven to work well. :science:

HotShot arrived today! Charged it with an old Samsung tablet charger (rated 2.0A). Took about an hour for the USB plug to stop being warm, and at 1 hour 10 minutes I couldn't wait any longer. Tried it with my 2020 Omni on the half bowl setting. Could see vapor starting to rise before the first click; cleared the bowl in 2 heatings. Wow, great extraction, with dark brown AVB. A little hot for my taste, so added the wooden spacer below the heat shield and now its just right for me. 6 or 7 heatings per bowl, medium brown AVB. I can't get over how compact this thing is. Maybe I'll eventually get around to a HalfPint build, but I don't know if I'll be able to pull off a build in a form factor this small and for this price. Excellent engineering all around @Pipes!

Guess which vape I got just before joining

I think some of that is just a teeny bit of smoke from the wooden heat shield charring, since there seems to be less of it over time despite no reduction in vapor seen on exhale (or effects, for that matter). Almost a shame that it seems to be going away as the heat shield chars, cause it looks really cool with the colored lights.

I could also be wrong. I may just be vaping in lighting conditions where it's harder to see than when I'd initially gotten it. I haven't investigated too hard.

Starting from tomorrow on, I'm supplying the charger for the extra $5. Just received my shipment and have been testing today. So far no problems. Going to do a couple more tests with different cords and battery levels to make sure. I've updated the FAQ to reflect the change.
This is actually an adaptive tri-voltage charger but does stay in 5-volt mode. Not brand specific.

Heads up that the details on the wait list still say that a 2 amp charger is required but not included. Was a little confusing until I saw this post. Looking forward to mine. Currently 13 on the list. You move fast. Props.
