Discontinued Terp Torch

I look at this vape more like a proof of concept kind of thing. For the price I'm willing to try it and see if this can deliver the way other vapes three times more expensive do. I think that down the road nothing stops them to release a new version more aesthetically pleasing, better designed and with better glass with a screen system that's better. Lots of opportunity for improvement. But as an entry level vaporizer if it can deliver the punch that some of the heavies can I'm willing to look pass these issues and give it a try.
Just to point out one angle- the Elev8r hits alongside the big, expensive guns, for a similar price. Although obviously one needs a good torch too. Big Buddy is my best recommendation there for best performance, taste and vapor quality, vs Thebigshot torch.

So this iron is very interesting. Simple enough. It could be very affective, at a great price.

Simple can be just right. Hope so anyway.

It almost stikes me, along with the LSV, as a poor man's Vriptech Heat wand, albeit Ti not pure glass like the VHW.

Oh yes, Big Buddy torch is like £35, so cheaper than a contoller+coil.

Purer materials you could argue, but this design interesrs me.

My 1st ever vaporizer- 1999, OG Master Blaster, was like a soldering iron design- hot plate, gauze fits inside it, mostly conduction.

Was hard work but had it's merits so a modern, fast extracting soldering iron convection vape may be a good experience.

looks very easy to use anyway. Definitely

High on Bluedream and Cinderella Jack Automatics. Night all.

Fan of Hot Air Makers.
It's a new vape for me. Regardless if it's new tech or outdated tech, I'm still excited.
It needs a 90 degree curve below the heating element, so the handle goes sideways, instead of sticking up right in your face while hitting.
I don't think it needs it. I think it would benefit from it, but performance wise it wouldn't change much if any. I think it's going to be a solid vape, an ugly vape, but a solid one.

Yup, i was just discussing this very point with someone earlier tonight. Or just go the whole hog and give it a hook shape so it can hang off the bowl. A stand, a soldering iron stand, that points it down at an angle would make more sense than sitting it straight up in the air like that when not in use, i woulda thought, anyway.

Anyway, its better than the soldering iron vape i tried to make in about 1998, but I cant help but feel its way late to the party to actually sell in decent numbers to keep the company going.

Good luck to it tho, looks like it hits well.

I know it wouldn't change performance, but ease/comfort of use is also important in this modern age of all the different vape options we have available to us.

As I already own a NV WeedEater, this is not on my “buy list”, but I watched Troys review, and it’s certainly interesting for someone on a budget. Another method of applying a heat source to a weed bowl. I’ve seen these types of soldering irons, but it’s odd this one has preprogrammed temps, which may be custom to that iron.

Below is a photo of my tiny TS100 soldering iron, can run off 24 volt laptop power supply, or as a portable off 18v battery packs. Since this iron gives you total control of your temps in 1 degree steps, if you could put the “torch” part of the Terp on a tiny unit like a TS100, much sleeker. I don’t know how long an 18v battery pack would last, but on AC wall power, no problem.

Anyways, if I didn’t own a WE, this would non the less be appealing, low price being the main hook. I guess the only thing I would question, is the life of whatever heating element they are using. A good PID and coil will last, a long time.

Good luck to the new SOLDERING CLASS of 2020!

Unluckily all pictures are gone.
I wish I have visual proof of what a beauty it was, and it was based on an iron idea too.
This was a 2010 vape that was beautiful indeed, and never took off, because early vaping years were all about minimalizing everything, and trying to digitalize everything.
It was “the pre-millennials fall down” era.
After the 2011 Arizer Solo release, everything started to go downhill.

I keep reading that this vape is the poor mans version of this and that. That's the whole point of this thing, it's designed to be simple so it can sold at a lower price. All these ideas about what they should have done with this vape are all good but they would drive up the price. I saw comparison to the LSV and the VRiptech but these two vape are twice the price of the Terp Torch. You'll need to buy a water pipe adapter for the LSV, there's no stand available unless you order from somewhere else like Delta 3D Studios. I don't know the VRiptech at all so I can comment but right now they are not available with a US power cord on their site and the stand for this vape doesn't look to be safe. Also both of these vapes are very fragile because of all the glass, in the case of the VRip they even write in the description that this vape is not the most durable. When I look at the Terp Torch I don't see a lot of things that can easily break, I'm more concerned about breaking the bowl than the vape. A lot of the criticism concerning the form factor and the power cord of the Terp Torch are valid for the LSV and the VRiptech too.

@Alexis have a really good point about the Elev8r, it's the only vape that can be called a heavy hitter in that price range and if you get the water pipe set only you cut the price by half. You have to add the torch but there's a good chance you'll already have one and if you buy a Big Buddy Torch and the water pipe kit you still save money compared with the Terp Torch. In the end it's still gonna be more expensive because of the butane, the more you'll use the Elev8r with a torch the more money spent on butane. If you go with the coil and controller route we are now in the same price range as the LSV and VRiptech.

The real test will be when we'll be able to compare the vapor from all these vapes. I have the Elev8r and the LSV but don't have the VRiptech so I'm curious about the results. But if it can extract efficiently without killing my throat too much than I'll be satisfied. Forget about how old this technology is, the only thing that matters is the results. If the Terp Torch can hang on with the heavies we have now, at that price, it's gonna be a really good news for some people, remember that not everybody can buy a top of the line vape and accessibility is a good thing for the vaping industry.

Lsv is the same ceramic heater in a Chinese made aluminum housing.
🐈
You are right and it's twice the price of the Terp Torch. The big advantage the LSV has over the Terp Torch is the heat guard but you end up with a much bigger unit to hold in your hand, also the glass path for the vapor. When you start adding modification to the basic idea the price goes up. On paper the biggest difference between the two is that the Terp Torch adds titanium into the mix, the question is what difference it will make for the quality of the vapor, all the rest is just bells and whistle.

I'd be interested to know how it runs after being used extensively on high temps.

The added benefit of the glass and aluminium in the LSV is no melting. I assume thats why the terptorch stand has the hot end straight up right in the air, instead of the other way up.

An adapted version of something like this makes more sense to me than a desktop mic stand.

EDIT: The terptech IG... Thats a hell of a lot of followers for a vape thats barely been released. Im not saying anything, just surprised :)

That's the thing that bothers me the most with the stand, there's already products created for regular soldering iron that will be safer than just holding the thing in the air. If the mic stand had a little cage around the hot part to prevent accidental contact I would feel much more safe, but right now the only way to not burn yourself is to move it out of the way and like @stickstones demonstrated it's not working all the times. I get that the mic stand was probably a less expensive option but looking at the other stuff available I don't think the price would be that much higher, even if you need to do some modification for the Terp Torch to fit. I won't be surprised if a new version of the stand is available later.

I didn't realize this was a ball vape, I watched the Troy & Jerry vid and was surprised to hear no comparisons to the G43, Wall-G, or SSV43? Elephant in the room? Isn't 420vapezone and Sticky Brick also working on something like this?

Some folks used to build them like that, here's @2clicker 's Hakko.

Another popular DIY back in the day was to run the SSV heater cover on an 'iron.

Regular soldering iron stand are fragile piece of coiled metal on a tiny stand unless you get like a Hakko one. If you do that the cord is sticking up and can easily be caught on something. They also only really stay in place because of the needle tip that this does not have. The one it comes with looks better then most of the cheap open ended stands with out a sponge. The only thing you can do is make a improved version of the one it comes with will be less likely to tip over. I will probably just make a thin wood 3x7 shoe box shape and pin the stand it comes with down in it. Then a plastic clip to snap the handle it in securely. Your probably will still have to be careful when using it though.

I put my order in yesterday. I also ordered 2 mega globes from Sneakypete. Figured with whip the terp torch won't be in my face and the second globe because the wife will want one on her side when she sees me laying back all comfy with my whip. Was thinking about getting a carb attachment but I don't know how the terp torch will behave with heat if it were to be sitting on glass too long.

But seriously about these balls, in 420vapezone's video and stream with Jerry he mentions needing more.

In the Q&A on YT someone asked. They said it's on purpose to allow space for expansion and allow a gap at the top near the intake holes.

Idk if Troy tried it before adding more balls but I would imagine the heater can keep up even without the extra thermal mass from 2-3 extra balls.

If I feel I the need, I plan on adding some
