Pen Terp Pen XL - Boundless Technology

Cartridge as in oil concentrate? For some reason those tend to irritate my throat and minutes or hours later I cough, then sound wheezy in the am.
Am I missing something? The oils typically don't taste as good to me, so I have preferred wax,

It just sounds like you haven't found the right processor, maybe try getting one from whoever makes the wax you like. My buddy had a rosin cartridge the other day that damn near tasted as good as a dab of water hash off a sapphire nail.

Very interesting, I'll be on the lookout but I only have access to what comes over the counter at 2 stores in Grassachusetts; wax, shatter, batter, sugar, oil. Prices seem steep, I stay with wax. (prefer flower mostly anyway)
(I have tried 'liquifying' wax with limited success -- it wound up leaking out of several pods from a Rubi stick. And I should not have used that blueberry flavor liquifier stuff)
Sorry to wander off the XL topic.

Hey everyone,

I wanted to announce that we have received our replacement coils for the XL and OG Terp Pen today. We are aiming to have them up on our website to order tomorrow. Our sample quartz coils also came in and if anyone is interested in trying these out please reach out to me at Eric@bndlstech.com. Just a heads up, we are limited to the number of quartz coils we can give out at the moment. Thank you everyone, we appreciate all the support from the community!

Is the Terp Pen XL designed to be used with the cap on, similar to the OG Terp Pen? It has the holes to provide flow but the coils seem awfully close to the silicone cap for the little storage compartment.

This thing is a monster. Totally replacing the 2 OG TP's I have. Love the free air flow. Very nice draw. And, I can load these giant coils up and get 8 or 10 good hits.

IMO, Boundless has a real winner in this one.

With that said, there are still issues with the LED light going off and on at weird times. And, the temperature will change by itself, often. And, my eyes are going crossed looking at the LED. Same with the OG Terp Pen. Maybe others don't use the lights on their vapes but I often look at mine and the Terp Pens are definitely sending me cross-eyed. LOL Still, these have become my goto for rosin, edging out the Aris Headbanger. Even with these few issues with the light, this is an awesome rosin vape.

Congrats @Boundless Vape Technology

The Terp Pen XL is designed to be used with the cap on and works very well through a water pipe adapter using this method. The silicone divider is there to prevent concentrate in the quartz compartment to fall on the coil during transportation. It can be removed for cleaning or if you don't need it. It is not recommended to dab straight off it but it is safe to use if it is in the cap and you are using the XL with the cap on. I hope this helps and thank you for the feedback.

I promised myself - don't buy anything new, wait a while when something comes out. Must resist new vape VAS.

Proven right again it seems.
Have you tried the og terp pen? They seem to be quite solid, and well worth the price of admission.
I think the Xl's troubles are minimal, the extra blinking lights, etc., and it does seem that folks are enjoying it.

Right, for $59, it isn’t exactly a substantial economic risk. Not like buying a new version of the Volcano or something.

As for cap on vs. cap off, I have had much better results (cloud quality) with the cap on.

I am still seeing the pen temperature change for no apparent reason between hits. It is annoying and shouldn’t happen. When I can keep it on “red”, it works great. Excellent vapor quality and quantity.

I did do the “unscrew the coil and charge the pen“ method that Eric suggested. That seems to have fixed the lack of battery power issue that was intended but I haven’t used it enough to say for sure.

@Eric@bndlstech.com - what should be expected for battery life?

p.s. - I see from the OP, that Boundless was averaging 40 dabs on a full charge. Given how quickly my pen‘s battery level went from green to blue (after maybe 3 hits), I’d have to think I won’t get anywhere near that. We will see.

I'm also having weird lights going on. It seems like the temperature changes on mine with little to no provocation and the battery falsely claims to be too low early. I'm giving it some time to condition to see how it shapes up before reaching out to support.

I'm curious about when we might expect more details on alternate coils?

I received a barrel coil with my replacement XL. It works very well and I cannot see myself using any other style for my consumption.
Looking forward to picking up a few spares when they become available. Still having the random temp reset, and intermittent operation.

Hi Everyone,

My apologies for the delay in getting these posted. Please see below for images of the Terp Pen OG ceramic coil, Terp Pen XL ceramic coil, and our new Terp Pen XL Clapton Quartz Coil. The quartz coil is made with Kanthal wire. I posted the temperature breakdown of the ceramic coils in the OG Terp Pen thread and will copy here.

"The OG Terp Pen is set to max out at 390C/734F. This is the same as the Terp Pen XL on the green setting of 3.7V.

The Terp Pen XL max temperatures are as follows -
Blue setting: 3.3V, 370C/698F
Green setting: 3.7V, 390C/734F
Red setting: 4.0V, 415C/779F "

The temperature settings are the same for the quartz coil but in my opinion, there is a noticeable change in efficiency as the Clapton coil allows for some massive and tasty clouds. I am enjoying the quartz coil very much and hope to hear some feedback from the community soon.

@Boundless Vape Technology

People are reporting random temperature changes, is this working as intended? Is there a fix for this?

The unit can be sensitive to being set down and moving around. 2 taps will cause the battery indicator to flash and three taps will change the voltage. The only way to stop this at the moment is to unscrew the coil when it is cooled down, for traveling and when not in use. I would recommend doing a quick puff to check to see what voltage level you are at prior to use and adjust to your desired voltage.

I hope this helps and if anyone has any questions feel free to reach out via private message or by email at Eric@bndlstech.com. We appreciate all your support!

All the coils are made with Kanthal wire.
Thanks for the preview, though I’m surprised to hear this part — I thought the current coils were made with SS wire. Just want to confirm Kanthal is right?

Edit: Yeah, according to the product info found here:
Our Terp Pen coils are made up of high-quality ceramic which is wrapped with a medical-grade stainless steel wire.
Does this mean that going forward you guys are switching to Kanthal?

My mistake, that was a rush on my end. The ceramic coils were changed to stainless steel as our originals were Kanthal. The quartz coil is made from Kanthal wire.

Anything worth doing, is worth overdoing.
Please send me an email to Eric@bndlstech.com and I can get one reserved for you.

You had mentioned in a previous post that the two new XL tips are cross compatable with the OG pen also. Is the heat up slower because of the smaller battery? and also wondering if the cap on the OG fits over the XL tips?

Thank you for answering questions on the FC.

To me, the XL coil on the OG Terp Pen feels like a draw from the blue setting on the Terp Pen XL. The XL coil does heat up slower on the smaller unit but it is still enjoyable in my opinion.

The OG cap will not fit on when the XL coil is attached to the OG Terp Pen. The XL cap does fit over and connects via magnets on the OG Terp Pen but it is a bit wobbly.

I hope this helps and happy to be here!

I did try the new Quartz coil last night and I like it a lot. The vapor is tasty and a lot less harsh than with the Ceramic coil. I did a comparison back to back with the two coils and it changed my perception of the device. Before I liked the Terp Pen but it was more the practical side of the device that I liked. I would get medicated fast and easily but the experience wasn't really satisfying, the vapor was a little rough in the throat and the taste was barely there. With the Quartz coil the taste gets a boost, I have vaped two times with it and unfortunately the concentrate I have isn't the best tasting even in my RIO so the coil didn't do a miracle but it was a big improvement over the Ceramic coil. The big difference was the harshness of the vapor, it was so smooth with the quartz, no coughing, not throat that hurts after the hit. Now I can see myself using the Terp Pen over the RIO when I need to take a quick hit and still be satisfied with the taste of the vapor, it's not gonna replace a regular setup or my RIO but the convenience of the device tells me I'm gonna use it a lot more than before.

Another thing I would like to point out is that it's a lot easier to use the Quartz coil to clean the bottom of your concentrate container. The coil sticks out more and you can get more left overs than with the Ceramic coil.

The Terp Pen XL is a really nice device that is a quick and easy way to use concentrate and the improvement the XL version bring are good but it could be improved even more. The changing temperature mechanics are too sensible, the setting can change even if you don't tap three times near the light, just placing the vape on the table can change the setting, just putting the cap on will change the setting because the magnet makes the cap snap on the vape, this can happen randomly. The little light that tells you what setting the vape is on is too small and too close to my face. If I have the vape in my mouth I have to strain my eyes to see the light, I cannot see properly if the light is blinking, it's not fun. I don't like to look at the USB port right next to the light, hell the port is easier to see than the light. The way I see it the light should be lower than the port so that it's easier to look at and if possible the light should be on the other side of the vape so you don't see the damn USB port, that way you have all the space to have a light that is bigger than a pin head and you can place it anywhere on that side. I can live with the setting changing but not being able to see what setting I'm at or if the battery is getting low is a big problem. This device is brand new so I'm sure the sensitivity problem will be corrected or maybe it's just my Terp Pen XL that is acting up but I would like to have a change about the light in future version.

I bit the bullet and brought one of these. I had the original terp pen for a while. Went for silver as black scratches.

I don't find the temperature changing as anoying as I thought. You just change temp before hitting.

The portability and stealth of the XL terp pen is unrivalled. The taste is quite poor compared to the DT v4. Not a great comparison but thats my other concentrate vape.

I am using the stock coil and i think with a different coil this vape would be much better. You can't reach the corners of the quartz container with the stock coil. I also get the feeling a different coil would work better.

@Boundless Vape Technology when are the quart coils coming?

I bought this pen last week and like it alot. I was using the linx blaze for on the go and at work before this. I'm curious about others methods of cleaning and burn off. I noticed the amount of vapor I was getting go down considerably once the coil had a couple of days use on it without cleaning. I burned the coil off and it smoked like a freight train the first 5 or 6 draws then seemed to be finished smoking much. I dipped it in some budder and hit it again and it didn't wow me like a new coil. Did I clean the coil enough I wonder.

I had similar results with the terp pen og coils... I had the feeling I have to change the coils often to get best results...

now I am waiting for my terp pen xl to arrive... also thank you eric @Boundless Vape Technology for quartz coil... after I can test it, I will report here...

I would go so far as to say when the stock coil is done, I will shelve the XL till other coils come out. Not buying more stock coils.
