but after using it as my daily driver for over a year, my chestmuscles/lungs are starting to be a bit irritated by the vapman the past few months.
I assume that the VM has been cleaned correctly on a regular basis and this cause can be excluded.
(including filter screen and airways)

Could it be that the air intakes in the middle section are a little clogged?
They can be cleaned relatively easily with a pin.

Another possibility could be too finely grinded herb, which is also perhaps too dry?
Rarely I had strains with a, somehow, special terpene profile, which made me cough despite good temperature control.
(Badly grown grass full of fertilizer and insecticide toxins, or Brix, I deliberately exclude here, because we are all gourmets and pay attention to the highest possible quality, I suppose.;))

Nevertheless, the vapor-filtering can be done easily through a small bong, which indeed makes the steam even more gentle, ....but also takes away a little of the aroma. (My guess is it filters out the very fine dust, which can create irritation.)

I use the vapor filtration especially on weekends, when we exaggerate at excessive steam parties and of course, we "must" absolutely try 10 new strains. :D :science:

For the usual use of 1-3 pans per evening, however, there is no problem with my lungs. (and I am very sensitive)

I hope you find the solution that suits you.

You can tell I'm a newbie at the vapman because I have been calling them bowl packs where pan sounds more elegant. Consider me informed.

On a side note, I bought an unfinished pear from @VGOODIEZ to serve as a backup to my basic walnut. I am already in love with the smoothness and routine. I personally like the smell and charring of the unfinished. Also, I prefer to treat my own woods at least once a week. What's the benefit if any to the finished and the mica?

Lots of guys like the charred wood. The mica is there to protect the wood, so of course it will last longer in heavy use. But if you enjoy it, you enjoy it? Mica also reflects the heat, so it should heat faster all other things being equal.

Finishing the wood protects it, and keeps it clean. So I finished my basic the same way VM does. Finish sand it to get it as smooth as possible (IIRC I used 240 or 320 grit) then a couple of good coats of "Boiled Linseed Oil", the same finish as used on military and fine custom gun stocks (sporting goods stores, hardware stores or even Amazon). Several thin coats, allowed to dry between, is better than a thicker coat. Once done, it is 'tough as nails' (hey, it's used on military rifles?) and should last 'forever'.

Be sure you use that exact product. Many gun stock and similar finishes use "Japan dryers" so the finish hardens faster between coats, only many of them are have toxic metals......not something you want inside you. Linseed oil is one of our oldest finishes. It's what makes 'oil cloth' from canvas. It survives storms and duty at sea on board ships since the days before Nelson and Trafalgar.

Which no doubt is why VM uses it, he's a 'no compromise' kinda guy in such matters.

Regards to all.

I can see the value in using linseed oil to seal it. I'm more of a beeswax and orange oil guy myself. To be honest, it took everything I had not to buy the finished yew, until I saw it was not the same two-toned grain as the picture posted before.

I may sing a different tune after repeated usage which these are sure to get. I don't worry about its heat retention properties because the heat up time is already so short and brief which is what makes this thing amazing!

Yep, cheap and easy for sure. I use it on some things as well. But it doesn't harden, right? Therefore needs to be replaced from time to time. Linseed oil is more like a varnish, but one that penetrates the wood fiber before 'setting up'. If you manage to scratch through it, it's still impregnated in the now exposed wood, continuing to protect rather than say let water in. Think about how badly beat up classical wood military stocks get, yet the wood is still waterproof decades later. Mind they don't goof around with thin coats, the soak the stock in heated vats for hours to days. For sure I don't recommend that for VM, but a few drops spread evenly and rubbed in (cloth or fingers) does a top rate job you won't have to mess with again.

BTW, if you're a wax kinda guy, check out carnauba wax, a natural wax from palm trees. Like in Johnson's paste wax (a personal favorite):

You don't need two, of course. Stuff dries super hard, the use it on roller rinks! It is also a major component of some car polishes. Lasts years on the kitchen floor. And it's eatable......M&Ms are coated in it so they don't 'melt in your hand' like the candy shell would without it. Those lovely antique wood, metal, bone, and so on things you see on display in Museums in those cases are protected by it usually. As are fine antique guns in collections (wood, metal and leather). It has the advantage of working well over other (lesser) waxes unlike Linseed Oil.

Fun stuff. Your call, of course, but good to make it an informed decision?

Regards to all.

@OF would you share photos of your hand-finished VapMan? I have a Basic Walnut on the way and am considering eventually finishing it myself.

I'd love to, especially since the Forum has fixed the photo posting shortcoming, but it's on loan (and has been for a while). FWIW it looks very much like my OG Pear one with 'factory finiish' (go figure). BTW, Linseed Oil is what VM uses to seal the edge of the mica to keep them from flaking off.

Exactly, water filtration catches some small matter particles which are good to filter out.
I'm looking for the best waterpiece to put on top of the vapman while using it outside in the street.

I guess i may give the 14m V-bubbler from verdampftnochmal a chance; because it's in promotion and it's cheaper than the official "budgie" by Easyflow.

So you admit that when vaping through a vapman 5 times a day it can get kind of harsh?

Regardless, I prolly been running my vapman way too hot. I must master the skill of low temp vaping and my problem will probably resolve, my bad.
My hypersensitivity has been mostly gone now anyway, so it's prolly more hayfever/stress/too high temp vaping related than it's the fault of the vapman.

I will give the vapman another chance.
Been looking at electronic vapes for a few days, but the materials used and also the breakability of portable vapes put me off hard.

I guess most relationships have some problems sooner or later, I guess the relationship with my vapman will only become stronger after this hardship we've been through the past months.

Nothing to admit, IMO. VM (and many other vapes) can be harsh in a single hit if you don't control it in a way that stays within the bounds of your personal conditions. Keeping it cool is not easy to do, especially for 'cloud chasers' since heavy vapor production is so easy to trigger?

The main problem with a WT 'on the street' is probably the awkward way you'd have to heat it and still show some reasonable stealth?

Good show you're going to give the little fellow another chance, IMO VM is eager to please. Good luck with it.

Maybe she needs more TLC;)

Don't we all, from time to time?

Regards to all.

If I wanted to use a vaporizer on the street, e.g. for medical reasons, I would switch to a little dabbing-stick and vaporize homemade rosin to get the best possible quality.

There are many variables why the vapour is or can get too harsh, as I stated previously.
This can vary from person to person.

To force something is not the right way in my opinion. The Vapman does not have to be the best choice for all applications in every situation. It's also no shame if the Vapman doesn't quite fit and another device does the job instead.;)

I'm looking to buy sieves for concentrates to use in my VM. Does anybody have a recommendation on where to purchase some without paying a ridiculous shipping price?

Kind regards.

Give @VGOODIEZ a shout if you're stateside. He's the only retailer that carries vapman in the US. He doesn't have them listed but its possible he has one laying around. Good luck!

Before there was an official one, several of us used to stack 2 or 3 normal SS screens with some success. Not as nice as the official one, of course, but it works.

I used a handy tool to spread a hole for the post, not sure what others did. I also did what VM did, put a smaller screen on first, followed by a larger one so the contact with the pan was improved.

Best wishes.

Maybe it's no shame but it would be a pity, to have to use an electric vaper.

because the vapman is the cheapest, sturdiest(almost unbreakable) , healthiest (only natural materials used), most economic (no waste of buds due to rapid cooling of the pan), quick heat up time and the vaporizer looks beautiful and is designed so perfectly as if it was designed in the high heavens itself.

Using it on the street is not that sketchy as long as u do it in a way as if there's nothing suspicious about what ur doing. People usually think it's some weird electronic cigarette of some kind.

Summary: vapman is the best.
And I'm pretty sure I've been heating the herb too hot.

I now also keep a little moisturizing pack in my box of buds (intégra boost its called) , so that the buds don't dry out.

I'm now no longer using the water pipes and just vaping a lot purely out of the vapman low temps, cause I wanna be sure that the problem is fixed 😜

Does a long stem for the Mflb plugged into the vapman further drop the temperature? Cause I'm looking into buying a wooden or glass bigsize mflb mouthpiece to plug into my vapman 😁

Vape on brave vapers. May the force of the sacred medicinal herbs be with us all.

Yes, it does. And the longer the better.

Both MFLB and VM use the same size (1/4 inch) MPs. As I recall officially this is a lucky accident, but I also understand that the Principals know each other.......

You can also use silicone tube over the MP or even remove the MP and use larger tube over the center section (my preferred technique). Just be sure to use high temperature rated tube, as you point out the vapor can get hot sometimes? Not to be baking nasty stuff out of vinyl tube......

Best wishes.

Same here I'm actually using the MFLB wooden and acrylic stems, although very small noticeable difference from the original stem...

If I increase the size of the air intake holes in the middle piece, and attach a longer mflb mouthpiece...

Then technically speaking there is barely anything about the vapman that would make it significantly "harsher/more hot" than for example a davinci IQ2 with adjustable airflow opened up fully ?

The draw resistance and the density (harshness) of Vapman can be easily adjusted by either clogging the air intake holes or enlarging the holes with a drill. With Vapman it is in everyones hand to make it the smoothest or the harshest vaporizer. The standard size of the air intake holes is 1.4mm, drilling it out to 1.5mm can make a huge difference already. The type of wood also makes a difference, as harder and fine-pored the wood the faster the air flows. This means that on a Yew tree model with 1.4mm holes the air flows as fast as on a american Walnut with 1.5mm holes. I should have written this in to the instructions. The possiblity of adjusting the draw restriction and the density of vapore is actually a big point for Vapman, I think.

This is rocket science for beginners. :D

Cheers to everyone!

I thought dynaVAS was my only affliction. But no. I got an walnut basic “emergency backup” (to the pear classic I received last week), and want to ask you experienced vapfolk: how long does it take to char? I’m getting wood smoke every time (about 10 heats so far)

I just asked Vgoodiez Steve about some other spare parts last week. He doesn’t have any parts now but said he would request some on his next order from Rene. I imagine if you let him know what you need, he’ll try to order it.
