Herb Grinders

I am actually pretty happy with my new Herborizer 30mm mini grinder, but it is a very small grinder. I got it for free with my herborizer order.
I was thinking about buying a bigger version, but they only have 50mm grinder at herborizer. My space case is 63mm, which is a bit more roomy, which i prefer.
So i was wondering which grinder can do "herborizer" fine grind in a 63mm grinder.

The 50mm herborizer grinder is only 12,90 euro, which is a very low price. i like the grind size of the herborizer grinder.

I only grind up .13
That is1x Plenty bowl, see my dilemma.
I also dislike getting resin all over my fingers by handling sticky buds more than I need to.
Lastly, I have crook thumbs so the mechanical advantage of the larger size helps me to not have to squeeze as hard on the grinder to grip it.
I gave my so-called 'large' SL/x V2.5 to a friend as it was too small for me but she absolutely loves it as she only microdoses occasionally so it suits her well.

I got my Ripper on Monday from Dynavap. I can’t compare to the older model but I freakin love this shredder. I have the 3-piece version. In just a couple days I realized that I really don’t want to hassle with a screen anymore. I’ve so far used it in my vapcap and Mighty. The grind worked beautifully. Grinding herb is effortless. It’s just completely effortless. I can’t find any flaws in the machining. The bottom screws on and off without incident. I haven’t used any funk on it. The magnet is insane. It is not coming off. It also works well as a vapcap magnet. I’ve used it several times and it’s perfectly clean. When it does get dirty it’s dishwasher safe. One thing that’s really quite cool is there are three rings of different size teeth. This lil sucker is heavy. As mentioned in Jurassic Park, if it’s heavy it’s expensive.

The cons are pretty trivial. Hell, one of them is just my surprise at it being so tiny. It’s perfectly advertised regarding it’s size, so this really can’t be considered as a con. Really the only thing I would really change is I wish it had better grips. There’s some coarseness on the top, but I prefer a grinder with something other than perfectly circle top.

Maybe I’ll try various grinder plates one day, but I’m really happy with the grind as is.

I guess a review is worthless without discussing what I’m comparing the Ripper to. The only grinder I’ve ever really used is my SLX 2.0. I’ve had it a couple years. I really liked this grinder but around six months ago it was a struggle grinding weed that wasn’t very dry. While it’s made of a high grade aluminum it really feels like the teeth were wearing out.

So, is the Ripper worth the premium price? That’s for you all to decide. I am quite sure this thing will last far longer than an aluminum grinder. If you’re like me who suffers to grip things, the ease of grinding offsets the lack of grip. In the end, if you want a cold stone quality grinder it’s up there. I never tried the BCG or Lyft (spelling?), but I am very happy with it.

* In full disclosure I received my Ripper free of charge. It’s very possible my review has a pre-existing positive bias. I believe my review is pretty honest though.

i'm looking at the herb ripper xl but i'm curious how the medium/fine hybrid plate works ... i definitely don't want a fine grind ... just curious how it works.

I just received the new version of the Ripper XL with the Fine/Medium plate. I like the grind consistency. The action is smooth so far. I have only processed a small amount of material through it so far so time will tell.

i emailed kevin and asked about the fine/medium plate and this was his reply:

"Our hybrid is a really nice consistent medium grind. But that’s all subjective honestly. We had a plate that was even finer, but didn’t sell much so we kept this one and called it both. "

i was surprised he answered me back on a holiday weekend ... this one is definitely in my sights!

Hi all !

then I come back to share "briefly" my experience with my new grinder 😁

I have been using a low-end 4-piece aluminum grinder for ten years.

For a month I used a tighpack grinder ... to try to have a bigger grind for my vaporizers and especially to take advantage of the preservation system. But my grind was very irregular and the conservation ... not far from the nonexistent. In addition after several days without maintenance, impossible to open it ...

So ... After taking advice here I hesitated as much between a BCG and a Ripper.

I chose the Ripper for stainless steel, health and weight ... And finally for the design because after several attempts to find the BCG colors that would satisfy me, I didn't really find it.

Well, I am mega satisfied and I absolutely do not regret my choice.

In "Inception", the Ripper would be my totem and in Harry Potter one of my horcruxes!
It's crazy !
it's really a beautiful object, just like an omni-ti, a watch or a knife ...

I like having it on hand, I love using it. I tend to put a little less material to use it more often elsewhere!

It is really heavy and will not please everyone as much as I like but ... it will not leave anyone indifferent!

I opted for the 3 piece . Good choice !! All parts slide perfectly, the magnet is very (too?) Powerful.
In addition, it retains the grass relatively well! The joint allows a fluidity in the work. The bottom thread is large and does not risk getting dirty right away.

For capacity, it grinds enough for me ... it's obviously very relative. But I have for much more than a day if I fill it 2/3 full.

For the plate, I chose the coarse plate. Very good choice (for me of course)! This is exactly the type of grind I was trying to get lately.
Dynavap, Tinymight and Vaponic respond very well to it. It greatly improves the quality of my vape in terms of taste.

Here ... to make it short, I'm a fan of the Ripper! 😁

Ah and I forgot, I had a minor problem with the routing. Even though Kevin had no connection to this problem, he was sensitive to it and was very reactive. (I really enjoyed it!)

So to finish ... long life at the Ripper 😁

Happy vape to all !!

I have the small Ripper. I would say the medium/fine plate is much more medium than fine. Works great for all my needs.

I love the weight of it. After 3 days I picked up my old aluminum 4-piece grinder. I couldn’t believe how cheap it felt, and it’s a pretty decent grinder.

I can’t believe how strong this magnet is. While my old grinder didn’t have the best magnet it was good enough. Now it feels like there is nothing there. It makes a nice stand for vapcaps.

It’s so tiny!!!!! Definitely good in the pocket, and it will definitely not open.

I am never going back to 4 piece again! I never realized I hated dealing with the screen.

I was going to say that I thought it was more of a medium grind. If you are after medium it will work nicely for you.

Hell yeah! If I need kief the dispensaries here are finally selling it anyway.

And if I am grinding dryer bud upside down, it will yield some kief that I poke out from the teeth with a toothpick afterwards, leaving a little mound. So that is all I need for once in awhile fun, just one kiefy bowl of that strain.

I actually cannot believe my 275 euro plastic grinder that came with a free mighty vaporizer is grinding so wonderful fine and consistent. to bad half of the grind sticks to the grinder when i try to empty it. Are there any anodized 2 part shark teeth grinders out there that look like storz and bickel grinder teeth? My herborizer XL likes this fine grind too.
The herborizer grinder does a nice job to. But S&B grinder is just a bit finer so i get better extraction (according to my abv).

The XL is only 2.5", damn, I was hoping it would be 3" plus being called XL...they need a jumbo option.
honestly i could have probably gone with the smaller size (i'm using a medium size santa cruz shredder currently) ... but liked the idea of a little larger grinder ... can't wait to get it in my hands!
