The “squish” delivers the melted trichs in a concentrate form, without the use of any solvents in the process. It is recognized by authorities such as Health Canada, as a healthy and safe method of extraction, and is perfectly compatible with tough US cannabis initiatives such as California’s Proposition 64. Unlike solvent based extraction methods which produce concentrates like shatter, rosin has ZERO residual solvents like butane that’s left behind through extraction processes (ie. BHO). Bottom line, rosin is the way of the future for 710.

For the past 18 months, we got into rosin-tech hardware in a big way. Our lab efforts in the past year has net us several new and exciting design patents (pending) in Canada and the USA, and our rosintech is full of useful innovations which really make FVR products stand out from the rest. As with the development of any new product, it’s taken some time for us to work out the bugs. I am happy to confidently report that this tech is now more solid than ever. So on this momentous day, 4/20 on the year Canada moves to legalize, we want to share our work with the FC community so we can all enjoy this fine solventless extract that is safe for the average medical Joe or recreational Jane to pump out in the comfort of home, on demand! And for those of you who are in the industry, FV Rosintech products are very cost effective ways for you to get into, or move you ahead in the rosin game!

FV Rosintech rosin presses are designed around ease of use and small form factor. Our signature 20 ton rosin presses, the “ROLLIE” and the “ULTRA” are both desktop units which stand mere 16” in height, and can sit comfortably on top of any desk or counter top. All our rosin presses are designed and quality built in Canada, and each is hand tuned and fully tested before delivery. Let’s go topsy-turvy and take a quick look at our newest press first:

The ROLLIE is the newest rosin press to hit the FVR line up. This machine is the culmination of everything we’ve learned about rosin-tech, wrapped up in a fine little package. The ROLLIE features 5x7” hard anodized plates, heated by 1000w of power through 4 stainless steel heating rods. It has external TCs that monitors to control each plate’s temperature independently, so you can dial in the exact temperature of your squish down to the single digits (in Fahrenheit, of course).

The ROLLIE, as the name suggest, is a rolling press that is designed to use driptech to deliver rosin without using any parchment paper. Any rosineer can confirm, scraping that parchment paper is perhaps one of the most time consuming and annoying task in rosin production. The ROLLIE takes this part of the work out of the equation, saving you literally half the work.

Don’t let the size fool you… this press is powered by 20 tons of hydraulic pressure. 20 ton is a huge number, and not something that table top pneumatic systems can come close to. Hydraulic hardware is much more compact in size vs pneumatic, and can deliver a smooth pressure curve, which is a very important factor to maximize yield and prevent blow-outs. Pressure is delivered through pairing the press with a 10,000 PSI pump. We have 2 pumps available: a 2-stage, 10,000psi fully machined aluminum hand pump, or a 10,000psi mini electric hydraulic pump which makes squishing with the ROLLIE truly effortless.

The process is simple… place your bagged pucks on the non-stick hard anodized surface of the plates, raise the plates to about a 1/8” gap for 15 seconds (gives time for the heat to penetrate the puck and get the trichs nice and melty before you hit it), roll the press down, now start increasing the pressure nice and smoothly, by pumping at a rate of 1,000 psi every 5-10 seconds. At around 3,000-5,000 psi, rosin will start to drip onto your collection mat placed below. Now you can slowly pump it up a little more once in a while, to continuously exert more pressure on the chip throughout the squish. A typical squish is anywhere between 3-5 min, depending on the strain. When drip action has slowed significantly to almost a stop, your squish is finished and at this point, you roll the press upright, release the pressure to lower the plates, remove the chips, and replace with new bagged pucks, to start the cycle again. Meanwhile, your rosin drips and collects on the cool collection mat below, and away from the heat source (hot plates).

This driptech process delivers the lightest rosin color possible, while retaining much of the terpenes. The use of rosin bags filters out any particulate matters such as red hairs etc. from your rosin so the product is truly dab ready, and won’t leave spots on your quartz banger. This golden “organic shatter” is the reason so many people are turning to rosin as the go-to concentrate for dabbing, vaping, as well as for making candies and other edibles.

The ROLLIE is a press made for serious rosin production, and each press can process around 1 lb of dried flower per hour based on 1 oz per 5 min squish (using 2 half oz bagged pucks), with ample time allotted for some quick dabs in between)\. Need more? daisy chain up to 4 ROLLIEs together so one operator, using one electric pump, can process 1 QP per squish, all without the need for any parchment paper in the process!

Our initial product line was first introduced around a year ago, and centered around build your own press DIY kits. These are still some of our most popular products, and are the most cost efficient way for the average hobbyist to start producing rosin at home. All our kits feature hard anodized aluminum plates for durability and easy cleaning. Each kit comes with our legendary, patent pending magnetic mount controllers. These controllers are the exact same units that come with our high end presses, and uses large magnets which securely attaches to the side of any press frame, for that clean integrated look. Each controller has two micro-computer controlled, dual line display PIDs, which independently monitors and controls the operating temperature of each plate. External TCs are standard on all our gear, which are must haves for accurate and stable temperatures. That up and down bouncing action you see in a lot of youtube videos? Those are the ones with the TC in the heating rods, a no-no for accuracy. @FlashVAPE , very interesting concept as I've wanted to experiment with a vertical drip, but still using parchment paper.
Well, like 45 degree vertical with parchment hanging way out with a V-trough folded on the bottom layer.
Gravity assisted rosin would flow down into the trough.

Love your full vertical setup.

@MinnBobber, yeah tilted directional flow with folded parchment envelope is also a great way to squish, especially for kief, hash or other concentrates... you actually need the fold to direct the mad flow of rosin bubbles produced during the squish when working with concentrates, even when doing vertical drip. If no precautions are taken, the foaming army of bubbles very quickly gets everywhere and fast

I've been using FV for lower, and only recently delved into using it more with concentrates.
The system looks wonderful.

The FV (especially the FV Turbo) is actually a great device for concentrates. If you are using rosin, you can apply it directly to the heater screen without fear of residue clogging up the screen. For other concentrates I'd use a tabbed screen, since they can be easily cleaned.

what's the smallest practical amount that's worth pressing? How much yield can you expect, let's say per gram?

@pakalolo The smallest amount can be as little as 1-2 grams for just a couple quick dabs. Typically for smaller amounts you'd want to use parchment. Use a small garlic press to press the grammies into a small cube puck before squishing for best results. Its important to make sure your cube is placed in the middle of the plate, and you can also load several cubes evenly spaced out on larger plates and press at the same time.

Yield wise, it really depends on your strain.... the best kind of flowers for max yield typically has solid buds, and are just caked in trich crystals... more caked the better. For dried flower, you can expect yield of around 10-20% of starting weight, depending on your strain. Typically, more indica dominant strains will yield more weight vs. more sativa dominant strains. However, sativa dominant strains tends to produce lighter color rosin.

One thing that I cannot stress enough is the RH and freshness of the bud you are pressing. The best RH is around 65%, what you are after is that real sticky-icky, right after freshly cured. The difference between using freshly cured bud vs old stock that is dried out, can result in as much as a 50% difference in yield.

@Vitolo hey great to hear from you buddy! yeah, with all the new vapes out there, I think the FV's current real obvious advantage in this playing field is its ability to delivery a real dab, which many will appreciate as various forms of concentrates become more popular than ever. Nothing beats rosin though, IMHO.

You helped when they took all of our stuff, and I have been using FV and Turbo ever since.
When we finally got our stuff back, I placed FlashVapes in a half dozen homes!
I was cocky and confident to place them all, because by the time I got my most recent FV and Turbo FV, I had mastered "keepin' her in ship shape!".
I hope one day to be fluid enough in our living situation to be ready to make the move to a professional Rosin Press, like yours!

The Rollie seems to be a very unique innovation in rosin pressing due to not needing paper and eliminating the process of extracting the rosin from the paper. Very interesting.

Although more than i originally planned on paying for a commercial rosin press, this seems to be a great value for such a unique device. I believe shipping is included? For something.that may weigh in excess of 100lbs, having shipping included in the listed price is a huge value add IMO.

I think they have me sold. This guy needs one.

Not parchment, but more like tea bags.
While plates are still warm, a card can be used to ,scrape away productive layers of concentrate, and while warm, I am certain a cloth with 91% Iso would tidy it up.

Couple of questions:

1. Can you help me understand "20 ton" and a 10,000 psi jack? Where does the 20 T come from...max pressure that the frame can take?? Don't get me wrong, nobody needs to actually squish at 40,000 lbs/sq in but I'm trying to understand these metrics.

2. Also about pressure, there is a gauge on jack pump....I imagine its measuring "head pressure" if you will at the output of the pump? I mean, it has no idea of the surface area of your flower (which is all that touches so pressure is distributed over the smaller square inches of the puck rather than the plate overall, correct?). How does this gauge pressure related to actual pressure on the puck?

3. When you say "external TC" is that to mean that you are directly measuring plate temp with a TC and feeding that back to the controller rather than the TC that is normally at the end of heating coils and rods?

4. I watched the vid on rolling the Rollie over and having the rosin drip onto a pad....I get that this will be easier and cleaner to collect than scraping parchment....but what do the plates look like afterward? I imagine they will be 1) hot and 2) a sticky mess. No?

Thanks guys...I have had your stuff bookmarked for a while and am considering a press purchase in the next six months or so (but I may also chicken out...haha...don't want to overstate my level of interest! LOL).

I would still use parchment paper with this press. Removing the rosin from the paper is trivial. At 110 lbs it also looks quite heavy to roll over and back upright. How much does it weight again?

1) 20TON is the rating of the ram. This ram is designed to deliver 20tons of pressure, at 10,000psi, and our pumps (both alum. hand pump or the mini electric pump) are 10,000 psi rated to match. So that means when the pump is pushing 10,000 psi of hydraulic pressure to the ram, the ram is exerting 20tons or pressure on the system. As you increase the psi by pumping up the pressure, the tonnage of force being delivered by the ram increases accordingly, so when you pump to 1,000 psi=2 ton, 2,000 psi=4 ton and so on. The frame is rated to 20tons, which means that it holds with minimum flex at max pressure, which is very important. Any flex in the frame is power that is taken away from the squish (whats happening between the plates), and used up in flexing the frame structure, which is totally wasted energy and does nothing for your squish. That's why its important to have a stout and strong frame with minimal flex, so all your energy is directed to the squish happening between the plates.

2) Now effective psi is not determined by the size of the plates, but rather what you put in between the plates. So we can have plates that are 12"x12" big on a 20ton ram, but if you load only 1 sq in (a tiny puck) between the plates, that 1 sq in is getting all the pressure, which makes effective psi 40,000 lb / sq in. Now if we were to double the size of your puck, to lets say 2 sq in, that puck is now only getting 20,000 lb / sq in. So the gauge pressure shows you what the system is operating on, and how much hydraulic pressure is being delivered to the ram, with 10,000psi being max. however, real effective psi on your puck is dependent on the size of the puck(s) you are running in the plates.

The hydraulic pressure you read at the gauge gives you a good idea of how much tonnage the ram is putting out, and allows you to visualize the pressure as it builds up. Real effective psi on your puck will need to be calculated based on it's surface area. Most strains, when freshly cured, takes less pressure and heat to fully extract. So on our 5x7 plates, if you are squishing fresh, moist flower, you can run 2 pucks side by side in a balanced load (1oz per squish), resulting in only 10t of max real effective pressure on each puck. so based on our starting puck size of approx 1.75"x3.5", to chip size of approx 2.5x4" after being pressed flat (or 10 sq in), your real max effective psi is 2000. And accounting for normal operation at 90% of max press (you should only pump to about 9000psi during normal operation), that brings the figure down to about 1800psi.

Some strains, especially older, drier stock, requires higher pressure and heat to fully extract. So for those strains, just run 1 puck down the middle of the plate. And if we take the same size puck as mentioned earlier, that real effective psi is doubled on this one puck squish,to 3600psi.

3) External TC means that the temperature probes on our system are inserted a full 1.5" into the middle of each plate, to measure the real time temperature of the core of each plate, and not at the heat source (ie part of the heating coil). This gives you much more stable and realistic feedback as to the real temperature of the actual plates instead of a burst of high temperature when the heating coil turns on, only to quickly drop down as the heat from the coil is absorbed by the plate when the power is cut once the set temperature threshold is reached. Having external TC is also very beneficial to prolonging the life of your heating rods, as they are not constantly being turned on and off due to quick temperature fluctuation in less sophisticated systems, where the TC is built into the heat source.

4) The plates on our presses such as the ROLLIE are hard anodized, which creates a harder than steel surface on the aluminum plate that is also non-stick. Before you upright the press after the squish, use a silicon kitchen spatula spoon to give the crack between the plates a quick swipe, to collect the droplets which have not drip down at the end. Then upright the press, and switch out the chips for new bagged pucks. Pressurize and down goes the press again, to repeat the cycle. There will always be the same amount of rosin stuck on the plates no matter if you are squishing just 1 set of pucks or 100 set of pucks in this one cycle, as new rosin being produced by fresh pucks will displace most of what's left on the plates from the last set of squished chips. So this amount of rosin left on the plates when running paperless, becomes less significant the more weight you process in one session. Whats more is that at the end when you are cleaning up, simply use your silicon spatula spoon to give the the plate a quick squeegee, and you will be able to collect most of that rosin left on the plate anyways. Clean up is easy, just use a 70/30 mix of ISO alcohol/water on paper towel to wipe down the plate's surface. Your done in less than a minute, and ready for the next strain. We've designed these machines with just about everything exposed and easily accessible, to make cleaning up a breeze. In our video tutorial series about to be released, we will show this process in detail. If you do a quick wipe down after each session, you dont really have much to worry about in terms of a sticky mess. And also, cleaning while the plates are hot is much easier, just put on a set of thicker rubber of silicon gloves and go at it, without the need to cool down the system completely.

@elmomuzz, the press itself weighs in at around 88lbs, and because of its relatively short height and even weight distribution, it really doesn't take much effort to roll it over or back upright again. The press is fitted with rubber wheels to make the rolling process smooth and stable. As you can see on the short vid, this process was done using just one arm (camera was in the way on the left). The rolling process takes about as much effort as lifting up 10 lbs, and with a firm grip on both handles, the process is really a piece of cake.
