My settings on the RDK200
Code 155 PSL = 1.03

Code 166
p = 20
i = 0
d = 0
otH = 100

Try those and see what happens!
These have been my settings for a long time now and i shot all the videos using them.
Raising that screen is the key!

Yeah those are the ones I'm running. I'll try and get it higher up

Just to check:

You installed all the beads in the bag? They should fill up to just below where the heater tube starts to increase in diameter.
How hot does your heater feel? When mine has been on a while the air tube female section gets hot., does yours?

I am going to try in the regular bowl now and report what temps i need to get good clouds.
Give me i few...

EDIT:
I get crazy clouds using the original bowl with the screen installed as provided and mediocre at best herb.

I am starting to suspect it is your draw technique that may need tweaking.

Try this, load the bowl and tap till it centers itself.
Take your finger and press it down a bit to form a light puck.
Install heater and empty lungs a few times.
Then pull nice and hard and fast or medium hard but as long as you can.

If you are not getting any results with your controller set at 950F and reads at 940F, then you may have a faulty heater or a loose wire. Maybe give the XLR connections a quick once over!

Took a quick video of what mine looks like using the settings above and temps above.
Using original bowl with zero modifications.
I pulled another 3 or 4 large clouds off that bowl!

When I get home I'll post my results so you can see what's happening. Just need to grab some goodies.

Edit: @lazylathe everything is fine. Just got some xj13 and ground up about .2 and fuckin A! Super tasty wih hints of spice. The flavor is super nice every single bowl. I have everything dialed down I think now. Thanks for your help bud

For the past few days i have not been feeling the greatest.
My stress and anxiety are all over the place at the moment...

I have been laying off the GS because of it's one breath per load technique that i love to use!

When i am feeling like this all my herb makes me cough violently, no matter what temp...

So i decided to fire up the GS anyway, love the effects!!
Loaded up my EQ basket and started sipping very gently.
It's neat to watch the vapor form and how it builds and moves within the tube.
I can take about 4 to 5 hits per load and it milks every time.
Way less coughing and irritation!

So far for Beta #1, she has been flawless!

Man down! My heater just broke while heat soaking :( Jojo is quick to respond :)
I wish you saw it break so I had clear info to go on.

All I can do right now is send another one out for the beta to continue.

Glass breaks won't be covered in the future. I will cover the cartridge heater for failure.

Glad this beauty could give you a break.

I've been liking the EQ baskets. The small load size gives a nice punch to the hit. I got really messed up testing it out. I think the GS bowl wins for flavor, while the small load wins for the density. I think a glass bowl the size of the basket would be neat to try. :hmm:

I say a lot when I get passionate about stuff so wall of text incoming. TL DR at the bottom for you lazy bastards!:D

I’ve had about 2 weeks now getting to know my Glass Symphony XLR so thought I’d share my thoughts on the device.

iMmpmuD.jpg

Just wanted to start off by saying to anyone who’s curious about this vape don’t hesitate to contact @jojo monkey, he is excellent to work with! He took a lot of time figuring out PID settings, going over customs laws, and explaining the heater design so that my GS would arrive ASAP and I’d know how to use it when it did. Great customer service.

I did not receive any compensation or special consideration in exchange for this write up thing.. I just like sharing my thoughts on vapes! I bought the GS with my own hard earned Canuckistan Kopeks. I do not smoke. I do not know @jojo monkey or any of his relatives, although I am quite fond of monkeys and The Monkees (I promise this bias did not affect my impressions whatsoever)

Shipping was excellent. Arrived at my Canadian home safe and sound in ~10 days! I did get dinged at customs but that's unavoidable.More importantly the customs declaration was done properly so the item sped through without delay or extra inspection.

Each piece was wrapped in foam and packed in individual boxes within the shipping box. Very secure. Jojo definitely takes some time to ensure your glass can survive the journey.

Setting up the GS XLR is not difficult but it does require some PID calibration and assembly before you’ll be able to rip. Putting together the GS is pretty simple, there’s really only one way the pieces can go together that makes sense.

The somewhat tricky part is filling the body with glass beads without spilling them across your floor :ugh:...

First you put the copper/glass heater core into the top female joint of the forked body and secure it with the included metal clip.

Next you pour the glass beads in through the other female joint. It’s best to do this gradually, shaking between fills so that the beads can settle evenly around the heater. You want them to settle as far down as they can and have the heater core as straight as possible.

If you dump the whole bag of beads in at once I think you’ll end up with some air pockets and uneven areas that could add stress to the core when it heats/expands. This is the only difficult part of setup IMO and you only have to do it once. Although you can add or remove beads as you’d like to tweak the heaters performance.

After the GS is filled with beads you insert the handle into the same female joint you put the beads in and secure it with another clip; BAM GS assembled.

h4cY6iP.jpg

Calibrating the PID was a breeze. In have an Auber RDK-200 and an Omron E5CC. To setup the Auber I just followed Jojo’s instructions. It has a single dial so it’s really easy to do, there’s not a bunch of menus to get lost in. The Omron has this cool auto calibrate feature that lets it learn the PID settings for your desired temp by measuring the heater.. Took about 20 seconds and can be used to set up again for my Twax just as fast. What a cool feature, totally blew my mind!

DMaaKUh.jpg

After that’s all done you’re good to go! GS does need about 3-5 min to heat up fully but that makes sense when you consider the heater design. There’s a little bit of a learning curve because the display temp is that of the large heater core not the air going over your herb; so it’s more of a reference. Like a log vape voltage reading. I’ve been using mine between 880 and 950 F depending on how big of a hit I want. It’s easy to dial in your sweet spot by watching how brown your herb gets; love that bowl design!

The way the GS hits is super unique; I do not own another vape that’s quite like it. It’s quickly becoming my favourite “I didn’t need to do anything today anyway” vape.

The heater has almost no discernible taste signature (that I can sense at least), very clean and tasty vapour production. I do use mine through water so that somewhat diminishes it but even then the taste is excellent. I keep meaning to try it dry to fully test this but haven’t gotten around to it yet.

It has some of the craziest heat retention and transfer out of any vape I’ve tried. It’s kind of hard to explain.. But with most vaping devices there’s some kind of lag or heat curve to the hit. With on demand devices you might need to take a few draws before you really start to see vapour, or let off the draw when it gets too hot. With logs you might need to take a pre-draw to prevent scorching after a heat soak or let the vape catch up after vigorous use.. Both cases you kind of use the draw speed to help regulate temp. But not with the GS.

The GS kind of combines the positives elements of on-demand/log performance without any of the drawbacks. It doesn’t need a ramp up(once heated up) and you do not need to control your draw speed to prevent scorching. By the time the air travels through the hot beads it is all hot enough to vape. It seems like practically every air molecule that hits your herb is vaping it; and the harder you hit the more instant vapour you get. The GS does not get overwhelmed, the temp does not drop even 1 degree when I draw.. But at the same time it does not overheat my material. It’s like it has a large mass of stored heat energy just waiting for you to use. Like a giant heat capacitor.

It’s definitely possible to crank the GS up enough to cause combustion. But if you set it right it’s practically impossible to do so without trying to. And combustion requires setting the temp very high trying to get that epic milk shot. Very easy to keep the AVB coming out brown after you get to know it.

The GS has some of the most consistent heat output out of any vape I’ve ever tried. I hesitate to say “accurate” because I think what most people want for accuracy is the temp of the herb; but consistent is a great way to describe it IMO. I know what performance to expect at each temp and it doesn’t really matter how fast or slow I hit it; I will get vapour. Although it seems like faster is more effective.

The GS is the most powerful vape I’ve ever used. The only vape I own that compares to it for pure clouds is the Twax; it can consume an entire bowl in a single draw as well.. But it’s much easier to combust for me using the Twax. I also prefer how the bowl of the GS keeps the hot parts away from my rig; the Twax puts a lot of heat on my glass. And I find the hits from the GS to be extremely smooth in comparison, the flavour is superior.. So the GS has completely replaced it for me.

Not to rag on the Twax, it’s amazing too! Much less risk of breaking that Ti than the GS. Just as a pure herb vaping comparison I personally prefer the performance of the GS. It's the best powerful vape I own.

2/2.. sorry I guess I wrote too much!

But there are some possible negatives. One could be efficiency, depending on how you define efficient. It’s easy to go through a lot of herb with the GS. All of that herb is consumed effectively, fully, and it doesn’t matter how much you load at a time.. But it’ll churn through whatever you throw at it quickly.

The GS will likely consume less than a pinch in a single draw; so if you want your microdose to last you a full session the GS might not be as satisfying for you unless you keep to lower temps. But if you want a vape that can fully consume whatever you throw at it while producing brain tingling hits then the GS is definitely a good tool to consider.

I consider it efficient because I only need a small bowl or two to be satisfied, and each is effortless for me to fully consume in 2-4 hits. It makes great use out of my herb so in that sense it is very efficient.. But at the same time it can use up a lot of herb if you want it to. Using that EQ basket mod @lazylathe mentioned would be a great way to ensure you don’t load more than you really need for each bowl, gotta try that!

A few more possible negatives.. The size obviously. It is an extremely large vape and it’s almost entirely glass. It’s definitely something that requires some space and attention when you use it. It’s not something you’re going to easily transport to a friends house without some packaging (although I have done it twice now!).

The heater needs a heat resistant location it can be set down while you load the bowl. I use a metal rolling tray, just set it on top being careful not to stress the cable. Works great for me! Jojo mentioned a mason jar would also work and I’ve seen some nice looking glass stands as well. I like the tray a lot because there is 0 chance it can be knocked over. Lots of easy options; but if you don’t plan ahead it could make using the GS a little bit of a pain as you look around for a plate or something.
XcF1a9T.jpg

It seems we’ve had one beta heater break so far, so that’s a possible knock against the durability of the GS.. But I’ve had mine on for several hours at a time, left it on all last weekend while I was at home (not overnight) and it shows no signs of stress.

The XLR connector has some strain relief shrink tubing around the wire and the silicone(?) holding the cable to the top of the heater is holding firm. So IMO it’s as durable as glass and wires can be, but I guess only time will tell! Hopefully the one that failed was just some subpar glass that snuck through. All my pieces seem to be really nice quality and don’t show any defects at least.

I’d recommend this vape to any experienced vaporist who desires a truly unique and potent vaping experience. The way you can hit the GS faster and faster without the air getting too hot or harsh is truly impressive. It’s something that’s hard to describe but the first bead clinking hit you have will make it very clear there’s nothing that performs quite like it.

I wouldn’t recommend this vape as someone's first device or to someone who doesn’t really need a super powerful hitter. It’s awesome at low temps/small doses; but I think the biggest appeal of this vape is being able to dial in potent powerful clouds without risk of combustion. You need a PID and glass to even start using it as well so it’s a bit more of a purchase for someone who doesn’t already have some vaping accessories. And it does have a warranty but it’s just a single guy slaving away making these so that needs to be taken into consideration.

Alright.. That’s enough rambling. Thanks for reading!

TL : DR I’m really glad I chose to support this project. The Glass Symphony XLR is a very unique vaping tool that fits a role in my arsenal that no other vape does. The way it provides instant thick vapour with even the fastest hardest draws is incredibly satisfying and unique. It has vapour production potent enough to satisfy any type of cannabis user; even smokers.. Turn that baby into the high 900's and watch your glass turn white, it’s amazing. But it’s equally capable of being smooth, flavorful and providing more of a session experience at lower temps/slower draws. Excellent creation @jojo monkey ! This thing rocks!:tup::rockon:

By the way everyone the heater broke because I beat up the gs heater on accident. I didn't change one of the settings that was recommended on accident. Thought I changed it but it didnt. So I was running the unit wayyyyyy to hot and even left on on accident at a really high temp. The gs should be very durable if the recommendations are used for the setting.

I see from your signature you run both your gs and flower pot with your auber. Do you have to change settings every time? I was thinking I'd need to change every time I want to switch between the gs and an coil/enail.

Yes I do, but it's quick and I only change the pid settings now and just leave the resistance at 1.03
@Prolusio great review bud!

Edit: my new heater came in! Wow!!! I missed my Gs. The Gs is literally on another level beyond the fp for flower. I must have fucked my heater up from the get go and now all is good running on suggested settings and am def not changing a thing :) just threw some Durban poison in there testing a pinch and larger packs but it really doesn't need more. A pinch is just as impressive as a "big load". :ko:

@Prolusio, such a great review - thank you so much!
Nice setup. Is it a whip from the Tubo?

For clarification: Is the tube of the heating part which is going to side the air intake? If yes, why is it so large or better so long? Looks like a mp!? What function has the attached tube, is it really necessary? And why is there a screen inside?

And regarding the glass part of the heating element. Isn't it possible to use a shorter but wider tube with the same volumen to hold the same amount of beads? The whole setup wouldn't look/be so huge!?

Huge size of the GS is the only real con to me :ugh:

Thanks! Yup that's a Tubo whip with a cork adapter so it can attach to a glass mp easily. Funky sells the whole kit.

Yes the tube going off the side is the air intake. But it's also the handle for the GS; that's why it's so large I think! If you were only concerned with size it could be much shorter for sure. The handle doesn't get hot at all so you can safely move the GS around or lift it off your piece to clear the chamber. It's very sturdy doesn't wiggle at all.

I think the purpose of the screen is to help keep the beads in, without it they could pour out if the GS was tilted the wrong way. I also saw some people put some cotton in the tube as a filter(?) and to adjust the airflow.

I'm not sure if it'd be possible to use a shorter/fatter body to reduce the size; guess it depends on what glass is available! I think it'd work fine from a physics perspective, but then Jojo would have to redesign the heater as well.. The heater core is currently as long as the forked tube housing it, so it won't fit in a shorter/fat body as is.

Thanks, @Prolusio, for explanation!

Hmmmh....a round bowl shaped glass heating part with much less height, a short air intake preferably placed so high as possible to prevent beads falling out and a reasonable handle piece would be nice.
Similar shape as the mflb orbiter with a joint at it's downside perhaps?
Much better size, better design and probably better handling, I guess!?

Awesome review!! So happy another GS is in Canada!
We should meet up and put the two of them on a claisen adapter...:whoa:

Happy for it to finally be the weekend!
Stopped in at my local dispensary and picked up some very nice Gorilla OG!
Very nice new strain and they are definitely not lying when they say it feels like gravity has doubled...

My only issue is lifting and clearing with this vaporizer. Doing so is a must for me.
And as we all know GonG joints can be the recipe for disaster when trying to separate.

I'm feeling an extra metal clip would help eliminate this issue.
But, placing it in-between the bowl and heater would be a pain when time to dump and reload.

The metal clip could be placed below, where the bowl and glass piece connect. But I'm not sure of many glass pieces that can safely hold/accommodate this monster and also accommodate another metal clip.

Most of the glass i know (ex. FC MOD and UFO) have recessed joints and so the metal clip won't work/fit.

Not trying to make this the cheap high quality bubbler thread, lol, but i feel glass discussion is acceptable since this monster is so big and unique. Im really surprised at how @Zow237 is using that d020 so easily.

How about a drop down of some sort? Something like the one in my sig? Would that help?

My d020d is def far enough away and I have no problem clearing it by taking the unit off the female joint. I usually hold the female joint and twist the unit slightly as I'm pulling it off to clear. I also have beeswax all over the joint as well which makes it much easier. I do want something a lil bigger but I am in no hurry.
GS is heat soaking right now! About to bust out one of my new favorite strains vanilla kush. Lil popcorn nugs but they are damn strong

i just don't think that will balance or be stable. (Even with the FC MOD)
But thanks for the suggestion.

Guess its just a personal issue for me. Bending over triggers pain for me. Plus if using the whip, only one other hand is available, which cant both lift up the vape and hold the bottom bowl.

It should be able to work if i swap the whip for the glass mouthpiece.

But something more secure would be nice. I usually like to be able to hold one hand on or even completely hold the base of my glass. Just feels much more study hitting my vapes that way for me personally and since i hate having to bend over to the vape/glass.

Ive read the whole thread, and see where it says all 100w controller with an XLR (1-2pin) is compatible. So, does this include High5 PID controllers? Or am i going to need an Auber?

Last, whats the max amount you should load in the bowl for proper airflow and even vaporization?

@Prolusio WOW. Thanks for writing and shooting all that. I appreciate how much time that took. You really captured the A-Z's of using and owning it in a fun and concise way.

Is the tube of the heating part which is going to side the air intake? If yes, why is it so large or better so long? Looks like a mp!? What function has the attached tube, is it really necessary? And why is there a screen inside?

Prolusio covered it, the handle:
...has a screen hold back the spheres and act as a filter w/ cotton - it does keep dust out and you can modify the pressure like a carb by adding cotton.
...it is long enough that if you extend your fingers out they should not touch the heater - safe grabs and always cool.
...is a sheddable lizard tail - I want this part to break first and it has for my fall off the table.
...has an off the shelf equivalents for a cheaper options
...does not have to be used - if you are careful beads wont move. You can add no adapter or any 24/40 adapter you find on ebay. Lots of things will cap it off and make it shorter.

That's the rough of it.

It is possible to make a new adapter to hold the heater and eliminate the need for the handle. Maybe some folks want a log, some a 24/40 on the intake, and some an integrated handle just to have 1 part? This is the starting point and it has the most possibilities. The design is also kept close to the off the shelf parts to be consumer friendly.

It should be able to work if i swap the whip for the glass mouthpiece.

I use a 45 degree adapter + a jhook and it comes to a nice spot.

So, does this include High5 PID controllers?
The controller looks like the ones I have. Do you use code 36 to get into the PID settings? If the pinout is fine then it will work. I could not find docs on the site.

Last, whats the max amount you should load in the bowl for proper airflow and even vaporization?
around 0.1 and below vapes away nicely.

For a max, I just did a test and put 0.94 grams of ABV in and was able to take a hit fine. Not an even cook, but the airflow was ok. (this is great for mint BTW)

Thank you, jojo!

I'm sure there are a lot of folks who would prefer this solution cause they think the same like me regarding the current height of the setup. A shorter heater shouldn't be a problem, I think?
Something like this with an additional joint at the bottom should be also an off the shelf part?
I would order one at once if it works.

Or something like this, just a 2nd joint as air intake needed.

What's about something like that for regulating the air intake?

I use the joint lube that @jojo monkey supplied in the small tube. It is an excellent blend of oils that make my joints spin freely and they never stick. Super easy to apply and keep lubed up!

0,1g per load is perfect if you have a large lung capacity! I usually go a lot smaller than that.
You also have to find your preferred method of use:
One hit wonders
Or
Longer, slower sessions.
I use both methods and they both produce massive, tasty clouds!

It does have a learning curve and once you figure it out, BAM you are in heaven!

Wow! Almost a whole gram. Awesome. Not that i plan to use it that way. But i normally use .2 in my Sublimator with one hit extraction, so just wanted to make sure this was able to hold more herb than .1 like some other vapes max out at. Thanks for checking.

Then about my High5 PID controller. I agree they seem to be similar to the others shown above. But I've never messed with the settings. How do i apply the "code 36" and what does it do?

Then i like to have both types of vapes in the rotation, as I'm sure you do too. But i prefer my session vapes as portables. For on the couch or on the bed. And i like my desktop vapes for those huge one hit extraction lung busters!!
