Hi Underdogs!

How are you guys doing in here?

I haven't been very active on FC for some time but I just noticed Rick mentioned the new nylon stems in the Zap-thread. I got really excited there for a moment because I've first asked for these perhaps a year ago or more now & had been saving my Blue Mahoe for something like those all this time. But as I understand it they turn out to be designed to use with a new core & they will not fit my first gen insulated core? Bullocks! What drill size do I use to make these fit my UD Dave? Will they work with my HI? Will you offer a shorty NonG (nylon-on-glass) version soon?

So many questions... ;)

I would not recommend trying to drill out the center tube of your UD. That is how I broke my UD which required me to fix it. I was using a 5/16" drill bit so that I could use 5/16" roasting tubes and I twisted the center tube which included the wires to the heating element. The center tube needs to be very firmly secure before trying to drill it out. The new nylon stems should work fine with the HI as they are the same size as the CRZ and TT / HI stainless steel roasting tubes.

Hi Alan,

thanks for the warning, I was a little concerned about that. Yours was a first gen with the even thicker walled inner tubing I believe though? There's quit a bit of difference in the wall-thickness between those and the tubing used on the insulated core I have (I've got both to compare).

To you as well as Dave; would a dremel with a fine sanding stone & a lot of patience be a safe way to enlarge the inner diameter of the tube perhaps? I'm even willing to try a stick with fine sanding paper around it if that's what it takes, I'm tired of not using my pretty Blue Mahoe already.

Not long. From order placed to delivery I think I waited ~2-3 days from a similar distance. Really it depends on the shipping crew I think, but I'm sure you could request urgent shipping if it's a rush deal.:2c:

Awesome, which one did you order?

Dave is pretty good about shipping I get most of my stuff from him in 3-4 days and I am east coast.

@ OTA - you may be able to use the dremel and a stone grinding bit to carefully open up the ID of your Dogs center tube a bit. It doesn't take much to get the 5/16" opening needed maybe a hundredth of an inch or so (give or take). You'd need to carefully push your screen down a bit so you have some clearance to work, it should be able to go down about 1/4" before hitting the top of the resistor if you're careful. If you do this your Dog won't have a physical stop for the stem tip and you'll have to be careful not to let the stems push down onto the screen and heating element with any significant force. If you give it a shot let us know how it works out for you.

@ Guest - we're shipping your Dog today, you should get a tracking email in the next couple hours once it gets entered into the postal system. It usually takes the USPS 2-3 business days to get things delivered. Thanks!

Stupid question: Someone mentioned an all glass stem. Is that the GONG? Can it be used dry, without a water pipe? I would love to be able to use my PUP with an all glass stem, but I have no bong to hook it up to.

Yeah you can use it like a stem I would imagine. You would just be putting the male 14mm joint in your mouth. The heat might be an issue over time.

Note that Dave said that he can make custom sizes on the stem. Perhaps he can help you out.

Thanks, timmahsan. I wouldn't mind seeing an all glass stem that you could put a screen into, kinda like the one for the Enano.

I know Alan over at TT has a ton of stems including a few all glass ones. I'm mostly using the short 14mm GonG of his on my UD and it works great, I've drawn directly from it and it works perfectly that way as well. Just make sure you get a longer one due to the heat.

Warming up my dog for the day! I like the way it vapes this NYC sour diesel I have right now. I've been away from this thread for a bit, is it true UD is only US now? Can I as a Canadian still get a second UD ? I would hate to be Dogless in my life!

The only one online is the GonG but Dave said you could contact him for all-glass dry mouthpieces, I believe. I just used the all-glass GonG stem dry for this morning's session :D

For all glass we have the GonG Stems as shown on the site and also the ability to make custom length GonG Stems up to 3-4" long. We can also make non-GonG glass stems (otherwise just like the GonG Stems) at any length you need up to about 36" :ninja:. For the custom stuff you just have to email us so we can figure out exactly what you want and what it would cost. :peace:

Hi, all. I seem to be losing heat after a couple of back-to-back hits, and I then have to wait about 10 minutes for the dog to get back up to temp. So, for example, I could load 2 stems the same, let the dog heat up an hour, hit one stem and get a perfect chocolate roast. If I then switch to the other stem and draw from it the same way as I did the first, I barely get any roasting. If I slow the draw way down or move the screen up, I get a little roasting but nowhere near as much as the first hit, first stem. So far, the only remedy I know is to take no more than 1 or 2 hits every 10 minutes or so. That makes for a very long session where I use more material than I'm used to, and not really get where I want to be.

I'm using the stock power supply.. would getting a vvps fix the problem? Anything else I should try to keep the dog from cooling after a hit? Thanks!

@ Slothington - your Dog should definitely have more retained heat than that and should recover from a large draw in seconds not minutes. Send me a message and we'll figure out what's going on and get you straightened out ASAP. :peace:

@ Shredhead - it's true that we've had to stop shipping outside the USA yes, that being said send us an email or message, since you're an existing customer already we'll see what we can work out.

Alright Dogs, we're shutting down early this week to get some needed road-tripping out of the way. We'll still be answering emails as we're able to from the road but the shop will be closed and we won't be shipping any packages on Friday, Saturday or Monday. We will ship out everything currently in the queue before we leave and also any orders that come in before 8PM (PST) this evening. Business as usual will resume on Tuesday.

Alright, better get to the shop and get some work done. We'll be logging a thousand miles up and down the west coast between San Francisco and Seattle so keep an eye out for us.. if someone happens to spot us and captures it on 'film' show us and we may send you a gift.

I have another cold UD issue :ugh:.

I believe my VVPS to have kicked the bucket. It's weird. The unit still reads the voltage, nothing obviously wrong, other than that when I picked up the pup for a session she was a cold chunk of wood. I was able to successfully get heat after disconnecting everything and plugging it back in, but after two hits and a break I came back cold again.

Luckily when I ordered it, I also picked up a secondary standard supply. I've now got that plugged in and hope to be back up in about an hour.

Any tips you guys have as far as storing/caring for the cables? Honestly I just leave mine plugged in on and end table near my bed like I think most set ups are. No additional support/etc added, just have the wire dangling off the table until it loops back to the outlet.

I don't use a vvps, but my normal power supply cord just hangs on the end of my desk.

Sucks to hear about your sick pup, theres nothing worse.

Hopefully that normal power supply gets you back into the action

Hey Dogs, just dropping in to let you all know we've returned and will resume shipping packages out in the morning. Will also be working our way through the backlog of emails and messages and should have those all answered within a day or so. Hope you guys all had a good weekend, we certainly did.

Will catch up with you all shortly and get started on those messages as well but first time to go unpack and rest from a tiring 10hr drive. :peace:

@ that herb guy - sounds like a typical VVPS failure, which one do you have? Glad you had a backup power supply handy, that definitely helps ease the pain.
