@ Stephen - awesome glad the Pup arrived in time for the weekend! Hope you enjoy it and look forward to your update.

Alright everyone I'm slowly slogging my way through the inbox and I think I'm slowly getting most of the messages and email answered. That being said if you send me a message and it's been unanswered for more than a 2-3 days you might want to send me another as a reminder or to make sure it didn't get 'spammed'.

Getting more and more Dogs into the testing creche today and then they're on their own for a few days while I finish up some repairs on Dogs some of you have sent in for maintenance or retrofits. Slowly getting caught up.. thanks for all the patience!

Ok Underdog how would i buy the darker walnut but harder wood one? and can i see a photo of the bit you put your stems in please.
Is there any chance ed's stems fit or can be fit with the Underdog with some sort of adaption maybe (i got 3 walnut ones that came with crz covers) i no yours works the "other way round" sort of thing, so may not be possible.

I would have go to the shop and make the piece since I don't already have one done from Walnut.. what shape are you thinking about? Like a standard PD size and shape? I could make it today and get it ready for the refresh (new pieces added to the website) for this week and you could then buy it off the website. Not sure about Ed's stems, do you know the outside diameter of them? Maybe they will just barely fit, or maybe you can use a small bit of silicone to make an adapter sleeve.

Can anyone else that might have any of Ed's stems and also an UD chime in? Bueller? Bueller?

I have a question about the UD stems; which one is the best to use with a bong? The GonG stem looks like I would have to stir the bowl (which I LOATH doing), but I may be wrong. That brings me to one more question; how do you guys like the GonG stem?

When I vaporbong with my UD I prefer to use either my wood stem (glass lined with thick silicone bowl) or the thick silicone stem (that is shaved down on the end to fit into a 14mm GonG water piece) over the GonG stem that does require stirring. This is because the GonG stem keeps some of the load outside the path of the heat, so stirring is required for optimal extraction.

I don't see a wood stem on the UD website, is it homemade?
Homemade by Dave, yeah. ;)

He didn't make very many of them, so maybe they weren't profitable. I love mine. The wood makes a good enough seal, and since it is lined with glass, the flavor is great and you can reclaim from the glass lining.

Here's a picture of mine:

I wish Dave would make a shorty version of the wood stem as it would be even better for vaporbonging. (Are you listening, Dave??)

So after a few hours bonding time I've got a few thoughts on the dog.

This is my first time with a vape, so I've got some more experimenting to do with hitting it, but I don't think I'm getting the same clouds I've seen posted around. This could also be product, it was a really resinous batch. I let it heat up just under an hour before giving it a whirl. The taste is much more pronounced than I was expecting, honestly it's like smoking an edible.. if that makes sense.

That is not to say the dog doesn't work.

I've ran through 5-6 stems so far, the thick silicone stem is my favorite off the bat. The glass stem is more 'familiar' in the mouth but doesn't connect to the heater as snugly as the thick wall, and the narrower airpath gets a little more hot air to the back of the throat. I can block more of the hot air with my tongue when using the silicone stem. I get good hits, but more dense with the thicker wall. I don't have any 'thin wall' only silicone so can't comment to that one, going to pick some up at some point. I can say I didn't notice any taste or smell of silicone even fresh off the heater while vaping - made a point to check just because some had noticed it for the first week and then it faded.

A quick question on the glass stems, do I need to remove the glass portion to push the stem out the back when it's time to change them or is there some trick around this? If not I guess just wet down the glass once it's out to get it going back in the tube?

I've got a ~1 1/2 foot 'heavy hitter' bong and the silicone mated well enough that I could see the vapor build in the glass. No milk, but I was switching between connecting to the bowl slide vs downstem trying to see what works best. I think I need to taper off the end and maybe it will wedge in the downstem slot a little better. Regardless, I blew visible vapor on exhale on the first attempt.

ABV comes out caramel to milk chocolate, with some yellow splashes. I think it could go farther, I've got it pretty brown but I don't think it was worth the extra hits. I've also ran a stem of kief, and then a stem of pressed hash. I can say I think the loose kief works a little better, even if the pressed stuff lasts a few more hits. The included screens are fine enough that I could just scoop in a little kief directly onto the screen and just cover the bottom portion at the heater with a little layer of bud. Held in place nicely.

I underestimated what the pup could do and ended up locked on the couch for about an hour.

This may not be the place to mention it, but anyone thinking on switching up grinders should really look at a cheap coffee grinder. I got one today for ~$15 and it's built more kief today than my handheld would have out of that whole batch. It does lower the potency a little, but knocking in some of that loose kief into the stash jar and swirling it around helps with that. It also leaves a lot left over for later ;).

On to the pics..

Herb, it wasn't a terrible idea. I had the same thought when thinking about a better way.

I, too discarded the idea as it didn't seem "elegant" to me for some odd reason.

I prefer the thick silicone stems so far.. they hit really good. The smell was a little weird the first few loads, but either the taste went away or I can't taste it anymore. They get much more use than the glass stems.

Haha, it seems you manage to keep it out of your boss's claws now, Stu?

I second that motion for a shorty version (<2") of that stem btw  I would buy one right away if they were available.

Looks like you're getting the hang of it Stephen, and beautiful log btw. When did you start using those power sockets, Dave, and are they standard now?

About your ABV color and lack of thick clouds; have you tried moving the screen up a bit so your herbs are closer to the heat source? Another thing you might want to play around with a bit is load size and draw speed. Sometimes it requires a bit more herb to get the thick clouds your after, and/or a slower draw.

Enjoy

Yeh, went on Vape World to check if they had 'em, turns out they have the bent & straight adapters. I thknk i'll get the straight one to use with a twig and a shortened silicone stem. Vapor heaven no doubt. Can I fill up the whole area beneath the screen and then just place it on the UD, or is there some space required from the herb to heater?

Ooo those look sweet:nod: . I prefer to vape with the stem upside down so nothing spills.

It's the only way I use mine

I prefer a glass stem combined with the thicker silicone though. I tried the adapters too but I personally find they restrict the airflow a tad to much.

edit: I get slightly better results with a little room between the screen and the end of the adapter Herba. About a cm should be enough.

edit 2: I misread that. You can fill it right up to the heater up to the point it'll get annoying having to pull the herb out of the heater tube if you want to.

Hello everyone.

My Mimosa UD just arrived today, I'm super stocked. Thanks alot Dave!, I can't believe how fast it arrived! 6 days from USA to Mexico and the packaging was great also.

My first impression is that this thing is really small, I didn't expect it to be that small, but it's great, fits well in the palm of my hand. The second thing I thought is that it's very sturdy and well built.

I haven't used it yet, I'm going to ask you some questions, please bare with me as I'm a total noob, I have never owned a vape before.

a) What are the metal nails for?
b) My silicone stems don't have screens in them, how far should I put them from the edge?
c) I have many little pieces of silicone, I understand they are used to mould screens, I have longer ones and shorter ones, what's the difference?
d) Finally the most noob question, (I know), but how do you prevent the plant material from falling? Why would it stay near the screen in the stem and not fall to the screen in the core??

Thanks alot, I really want to start using my vape and comment more, but I need to know how to use it well and (most important) some plant material, I only have kief and I understand you can't put kief alone.

Thanks to Dave for everything, his customer service is great, and thanks to the members of fc for helping me out getting to know this thing.

Greetings!

a) nails are for poking and stirring
b) 1cm-3cm
c) Its all just extra silicone to play round with :)
d) pack the bowl so it stays, and you can use pure kief if you pack it down. i pack all my bowls with great results!

Oh cool, I remember that one. Please post some irl pictures of it when you have the time Skuma.

Shredhead seems to have you covered otherwise. Just one more thing; I always bring my vape to the stem, not visa versa. Just turn it upside down before you insert the stem & it should fix all your spilling problems.

Hi Skuma - I'm looking at your order and you should have received two feet of bulk silicone tubing - one of the thin stuff, one of the thick stuff. There should also be one pre-made silicone stem with a screen already in it (and three simple glass stems). Make sure to take a look at this tutorial for molding screens: http://www.underdogvapes.com/about/caring-for-your-dog/ You can click on the pictures and go through them like a slideshow. The distance you place the screen from the end depends on your preference. Closer to the edge will mean hotter temperatures for your herb.

Grind your herb fairly good and suck it up into the stem - it should stick pretty well to the screen. I like to keep the stem horizontal or a little bit tilted up while connecting it to the vape and while vaping just to make sure none falls out. If it happens, just tip the vape upside down and give a little tap to get it out.

The little nails are used to stir up the herb in the screen if you want, or to dig and poke or whatever use you can think of for them. Just a handy little tool to have.

Hope that helps!

eta: lol, I'm too slow! Or you guys are too quick! Awesome ;)

Thanks alot for the advice OTA and underdogette, I didn't receive a pre-made silicon stem, but I received two silicone stems without screens :D It took me a couple of tries but I managed to insert the screen in one already

I look forward to use my UD and comment more, and to take some pictures for you guys.
