each to their own, im a high temp vaper and got the tubo for its on the edge of combustion properties, will have to try some low temp flavour tokes on it later. best way i have found is using the whip with the tubo on its side its like a portable ssv
:) Well i am not a low temp guy either, but tubo made re-think my vaping habits :).. When it is well heated for a cycle on cruise i get very thick hits between 160-175,beyond that vapor thickness/harshness is just a bit too much for me it really hurts me when doing back to back bowls,i like to hold my rips for bit, overly dense vapor is wasteful and damaging to me,but to each their own ,as you said. I've already posted this few pages back but this is a 160 C temp hit.

It does time out at 240 seconds, but if you want you can decrease it by pressing fire button and "+">>>>Vaping>>>Prot. set seconds :).
I have left mine on for more than 12 minutes at temps below 200 C without issue.I also recall funkeyjunky mentioned that he has tested the heater to its very extremes and it has stood up well .

I too have left mine on for long stretches at 400F+, and had no problems. The heater section can get rather warm, but not to the point of being too hot to handle. After all the news stories about e-cigs exploding, I've checked on the battery many times, and it's never been the least bit warm.

most of the e-cig explosions come from unregulated mods and dumb people.

the evic is regulated. as long as you follow proper battery safety, you'll be fine. the tubo won't self destruct itself.

edit: stuffed a piece of hemp fiber in my whip adapter. will hope to keep the whip clean this way. sure it'll work fine considering i rarely use the whip

I received my Pelican case yesterday, and set it up this morning. It contains everything I need for travel, including an extra bent stem in the event of a lipstick event, 3 spare batteries, a stir tool, and spare screens. There's still room for an herb container and more batteries.

I wanted to insert a charger, but I couldn't figure out a layout without going up in Pelican case size, and I didn't want to carry a suitcase. I rarely use more than 2 batteries per day, usually only 1, so I'm in pretty good shape anyway.

Now I feel much better about leaving the house, or even being out on the patio, with my Tubo.

Edit: Not sure why the pic isn't showing up. I'll post it later if I figure it out. Here's the link if you want to bother.

You may be surprised, it doesn't take much foam to be very protective. I leave as little as 1/4" between items and my boxes get tossed around without issue. Squeeze what you can in those things!

Not sure for others, but Pelican is readily available in our area, I pick up a few foams at about $5 each and have many setups for each box, it's cheap IMO.

Enjoy!

That looks awesome @RelaxedNow.
A ton of room for stems and other vapes/accessories.

I may copy your setup and add other stem based vapes to the case. Did I miss what size that is?

For Imgur images I believe you need the Direct Link which my phone app doesn't give me. For the pics to display I have to get the "Direct Link" from the full Imgur site.

Edit:
Yes I did miss that it is the Pelican 1150.

download the link above and use the update-guide by @Prolusio http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/tubo-evic.22992/page-27#post-1122783

changes:
- deprotected PID algorithm in the same way the other algos are determining maxbattery power. getting rid of the undershooting/heatup issue.
- cruise status bar

quirks:
- occasional freezes when starting cruise mode (cruise status bar disappears immediately and screen goes black after some seconds, doesnt react on fire button). abort with - or + and restart cruise.

please report weird behavior when encountering any, thanks :)

have fun testing! :haw:

@funkyjunky Thanks a ton for your fantastic support and firmware update! :)

I made some temp measurements in regards to conduction/radiation.

First experiment: probe all the way down into female joint touching the internal mesh screen. (As if your material would have fallen onto the heater screen).
Cruise mode running for 120 seconds, set temp 220C from cold (.195 ohms coil resistance).

START
IMB_t6FhnC.gif

AFTER around 60s
IMB_SU0hiC.gif

AT THE END (->120s+)
IMB_fpgniZ.gif

Results:

Temps at the mesh that would conduct heat to the load, if it sat right there (without airflow, no movement):
-around 140C after 1 minute
-169C max. after 2 minutes

Second experiment:
Probe installed in the center of the male joint at the end, nearest to the heater screen (w/o airflow, no movement).
Cruise temps, time, resistance, everything the same as before.
IMG_3707.jpg

IMG_3708.jpg

START
IMB_AzAd7u.gif

AFTER around 60s
IMB_DeHm7t.gif

AT THE END (120s+)
IMB_HYhfc3.gif

Results:
-around 45C after 1 minute
-around 62C after 2 minutes
--> max. temp afterwards was 63,3C due to residual heat moving up - unit has auto-shut off by then (around 20-30 secs after cruise ended)

TL;DR: Fantastic properties... Convection FTW!!! :)

Enjoy your on-demand/session style full convection tubos!! :D

Hey all.

I am sorry to say I am not a fan of the Tubo so far.

I am guessing that cruise mode is what makes the Tubo so enjoyable for everyone?

With my time with the Tubo without cruise I have to say I am a bit underwhelmed.

I have to at least be at 420F to get any wisp of vapor (using a short straight stem) and I have to say I'm not very impressed at all like everyone else here seems to be.

Also the temp jumps higher and lower than set temp constantly while heating up, and while drawing the temp drops quite a bit, around 30-40 degrees.

The Tubo takes me 10-15 seconds to pre-heat and 20 seconds on the button inhaling to get a so so draw.

I went here to make sure my Tubo was set correctly:
https://github.com/ClockSelect/myevic/blob/master/README.md

Any suggestions?
Is cruise necessary for decent results and battery life?

Certainly not necessary, I haven't set it up yet and I can tasty clouds at 350F on my second draw with RBT short stem basket screen... Have you read through other early experiences before cruise was even a thing? I had a rough go at first but definitely figured it out now after using it almost exclusively since I got it. Gonna upgrade to cruise soon finally

Good luck Doc, if anyone can make this thing sing as it should it'd be you, so hopefully your problem can be troubleshooted and solved without sending it back... Oh any photos btw? :brow:

Cruise isn't necessary, but you need to update to the latest firmware anyway, as it sounds like your Tubo has the same problem mine did originally. See this post for info from @funkyjunky and a further link to instructions from @Prolusio; http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/tubo-evic.22992/page-35#post-1128496

When I received mine, it frequently failed to heat properly, and I'd be drawing on it without realizing what was happening. After updating to the latest firmware, I occasionally get the error @funkyjunky mentions in his post, but that's it. The only other "error" (using that term loosely) I'm now aware of is that it will absolutely refuse to enter Cruise, or heat with long-press of the Fire button, when the battery is low (so far, it looks like around <3.7volts maybe?). I believe this has something to do with the built-in protection, so it's not a bad thing. Even if that might sound like high remaining voltage to some (I have no idea, really), it doesn't bother me, as I'm still getting multiple long sessions (long for me, anyway...YMMV) on each charge. Just swap batteries and you're good to go.

I did get the low-battery "error", once, on a 30Q, with the charge showing on the display to be over 80%. However that was 3 days ago, and it hasn't occurred since. That could be an issue with the specific battery, but I haven't yet tried that one again.

My tubo is starting to get too hot and turns itself off- in cruise mode. I had it set at 350 and although I'm not sure I did it correctly because I can't remember how I set it- I tried lowering it to 280. I also tried keeping it in "demand" mode at a lower temp and it still turned off. I know that removing and reinstalling the battery would fix that. Is there a different software setting that would fix it as well?

I just followed @Prolusios update using the newest version @funkyjunky posted today.

Thanks @RelaxedNow and @Prolusio much appreciated, I now have cruise!

I have not tried vaping in cruise I am going to shortly.

Quick question.
I have 4 clicks to turn cruise on.
Why doesn't 4 clicks turn cruise off?
The only way I found I can turn cruise off is to press the + or - button, is there any way to set it to turn cruise off with 4 clicks?
I ask this because I use my thumb and it's a bit awkward.

Thanks all!

Glad the guide was helpful!

The Tubo is currently programmed so that in Cruise mode the Fire button is disabled; so you cannot turn off Cruise with Clicks (or turn the Tubo off in Cruise mode). Currently the only way to end Cruise is with the +/- buttons like you said

Just wonder if there's something wrong with your tubo. Most of us didn't have the problems prior to updating or cruise control that you describe.

350 Fahrenheit? It would be very odd indeed if it's getting too hot at that setting. Are you certain that's why it won't operate?

Is it jumping out of Cruise immediately after starting it? If so, it could be that you need to load the latest firmware, or it could be the battery is low or defective. That's been my experience anyway. I suppose there could be other issues that I have no experience with.

Just wonder if there's something wrong with your tubo. Most of us didn't have the problems prior to updating or cruise control that you describe.

I had problems initially with my Tubo. If mine is any indication, it seems the latest firmware does resolve these issues.
