The WISPR vaporizer

@Blood420. To steer this erudite discussion back to the Wispr, may I suggest you try this technique with a Wispr, (or an LB may be acceptable as a concession); in a police station, with an officer present.

Then post photo/photos here @FC, and see what happens.

Since your post really wasn't about the wispr, we could have done without the steer.

A really nice look at it in action. Thanks again dopefiend.

It looks like dealers other than Gotvape now have stock. I'm seeing Gratefulbuys and Vapeworld with units to sell, for two.

@Dopefiend, I viewed your informative Wispr video, and if it proves to be more reliable than the iolite, I'll buy one.

I bought my first iolite in June 2010. After several months of trouble-free use, I sometimes had to press the piezo button up to 28 - 30 times to activate the unit, (plus a couple of minor problems.) A pity, because it was easy to use and handled well, when it was working properly. In March 2011 I returned it to O & B, and they sent me a new one.

Similar problems started last July, and recently the unit stopped working altogether. My next move will be to phone O & B, and let forum members know the outcome.

I just took my WISPR on a road trip to Vegas and it was the best tool ever for that experience. Used it multiple, multiple times without having to re-fill the butane much. Kept us high for the entire 9 hour road-trip to Vegas and made it all the way without having to re-fill the butane once (It didn't run for the entire 9 hour trip of course but it didn't have to to keep us high). Extremely fun time to use the WISPR and it really showed off what this thing can do. My favorite portable easy.

sorry if you've already seen it!

Thanks for the video DF! It looks sweet but it looks huge as well. I dont see it being possible to hide that thing in public. The IO fits perfectly in most drink/coffee cups and what I do is run the draw tube through the top like a straw. If you use stirofoam it actually suppresses the noise to an extent. The MFLB has proved stealthy as it does cup easily in my hand and its absolutely silent. But judging by the video, and unless your a smurf than it looks much larger than your hand. I have to play with one before deciding on a purchase. And, my Iolite still perform like a champ. :2c:

mvapes,
Hey guys, I've been lurking this thread for a long time, and finally decided to purchase a Wispr, despite negative experiences with the iolite (massive ignition issues that were never resolved, after only a month of owning it). It arrived a few days ago and I am absolutely enamoured with it at this point in time.

One point I wanted to bring up was one previously touched on a few pages back. Since I've had it, I've experimented with packing the chamber from completely full, to almost empty. My experience has been similar to that in the iolite, in that less is definitely more. Now I am assuming this is common knowledge, but I just wanted some other people's opinions.

I find that packing it any more than a 1/3 full is a waste (could be due to less air flow, more density etc?). After vaping 1/2 a chamber one night, I decided that the next time I hit it (the next day for control's sake), I'd only fill it roughly 1/4 full, and vape 2 chambers. Well, after finishing the first one, I was at least as high (if not more so) as when I had hit a 1/2 a chamber. Magic!

So to all the people who think the iolite or Wispr actually waste herb, they do so only if you allow it to.

Upon another filling of the chamber, it's actually a 1/3 full (not 1/4), and when I said 1/2 a chamber, it was more like 2/3. Just to be more accurate.

You should take a video of a full bowl pack / a couple hits :D

And does anyone know how long one can of butane lasts?

How long does a canister of butane last?

How long is a piece of string? :)

A 250- 300mL canister of high grade butane (with near zero stable, non-volatile impurities), should last well well over a month, even if you're 'frequent (read 'daily') flyer'. ;) Or so I've heard.

I've had mine almost a year. Got used 3-4 times a week for most of the time I've had it. I am nearly done my second can of butane. Given that the WISPR supposedly is more efficient...

Comet_course, your "negative experiences with the iolite (massive ignition issues that were never resolved, after only a month of owning it", matches the FC post about my experience:

'I bought my first iolite in June 2010. After several months of trouble-free use, I sometimes had to press the piezo button up to 28 - 30 times to activate the unit . . . In March 2011 I returned it to O & B, and they sent me a new one. Similar problems started last July, and recently the unit stopped working altogether."

A pity, (as I already said), because the iolite is so easy and comfortable to use when it's working properly.

Recent efforts to contact O & B unsuccessful. Trying again this morning, Irish time. . .

Hello everyone!

Just thought Id post a quick review as I got most of my info from this forum before buying. Thanks to all of you who posted reviews. They were very accurate and helpful in my purchase decision.

So I bought my Wispr from Gratefulbuys. They have a pretty good deal for first time buyers and they also threw in a free Space Case Mini which is my new favorite grinder. The tiny holes really produce a fine grind.

The good stuff:
Anyway, I was pretty excited to get the package. It comes in a very nice, almost Apple-like white box. Its even wrapped in a hologram seal. Comes with a little cloth pouch and a bunch of little brass thingies that I have no idea what to do with. Maybe they are tampers for patting the herb down? The instructions are minimal and dont mention the tamper things.
The design is starting to grow on me. The design was probably lowest on my list of priorities. But the fact that it looks like a juice box is actually perfect for hitting on the go. Especially in the car. Ive driven right by some cops while hitting it and it really looks like Im just drinking some juice. It does get a little hot on the "light" side but you can easily hold it on the other side which stays fairly cool. So far, I love this thing. Honestly, a great buy, even paying just released prices.

Now, the cons:
When I first got it, I followed other peoples advice and used only Vector brand premium fuel. I couldnt get the thing to light up. I tried pressing the button again and again. Fast, then slow. Double click. Hold down. Nothing! It just wouldnt light up. It just sad there hissing real loud. After buying this, then being informed that there was a back order, then finally receiving it a few weeks after originally ordering it, I was needless to say super ready to try this thing out. After shelling out over $250 bucks for this thing, I expected it to work right out of the box and was really disappointed.
I called customer support and the lady told me that the Wispr specialist wasnt there and I should call back tomorrow. But in the mean time, I should bleed the fuel and refill it. I tried that and it didnt work.
Honestly, I was going to send it back and go for the Arizer Solo as I have the Extreme Q and love it. But before I did, I just wanted to get it working one time.
Honestly, I started banging the crap out of the thing. Not crazy banging but just whacking it real good against my palm. Sorta like packing some smokes. I even sorta gave it a few gentle twists. Again, not anything warranty voiding but just enough to stretch her legs. I figured I was sending it back anyway. Low and behold, the sucker fired up! Im on day three now and it still takes about three clicks to get it to light up. But its working and works every time. Now, I have gotten fairly good at grinding, then loading her while driving. Of course only in a pinch. Usually, Im prepared wherever I go with a fresh load.
Another major downside for me has been the very strong chemical taste I get when I hit it. I was hoping that over time it would go away. The first time you get this thing to fire up, its starts smoking. Literally smoking. There is vapor and steam coming from all over the place for a few seconds. I assume its from the lubricants from manufacturing burning off. But that first hit tasted like burning rubber! Everyone that hit it, commented on it. I was again pretty bummed out about the taste. I didnt read anyone else complaining about it. I tried taking apart the mouthpiece and rinsing all of the pieces. I swabbed the chamber with a q tip. I even vaporized a mint/herb mix for the past few days hoping it would go away. But unfortunately, the bast taste is still there. Its so pronounced that my girl wont hit it anymore. Sheesh, thats pretty bad. I still put up with the bad taste but it lasts for about 15 minutes after hitting it. And I have to eat a jolly rancher just to get the taste out of my mouth. If it doesnt go away, Ill try and see if they will send me a different one. Anyone else have a bad taste from their Wispr?
Overall, I would give it 3.5 out of 5 stars. I would give it a higher review if it didnt have the taste issue and it started right away. Im a little concerned about how long the lighting mechanism will last if its already starting to be flaky. But the portability and stealth really make up for it. Its super convenient and works well. I am able to get some very decent visible vapor which was my number one priority. It delivers about a B+ in the vapor dept.
The butane for me does not last even close to 3 hours. More like an hour and a half with steady use. Not too big a deal but I have to refill daily.
Outside of the bad taste which Im hoping will go away, I would definitely buy the Wispr again! I would probably buy orange or red cuz they look more like juice boxes. I also cut the end off of a USB cable and use it as a cap for the straw. In my laptop back it looks just like a hard drive. :)

sorry for the long winded review. Rookie poster.

Nice review, thanks for contributing and welcome. You shouldn't have to put up with such a bad taste for so long IMO. If it's a smell that doesn't burn off after the first use then there's definately something wrong I'd say.

I'm also curious that you're only getting half the advertised run time (although that's not unusual- I've seen the Solo advertised as 6 hours!), and 1.5 hours is more like the Iolite, yet this I assume has a bigger capacity? (rather than substantially different consumption rates). If it's properly full then it would seem to be burning/consuming/losing more than it should?- maybe there's a correlation between the this and the bad smell? I don't have a WISPR, so perhaps I'm talking rubbish, but I definately think you should speak to Oglesby and Butler :2c:

To the taste problems, try boiling all the parts that can be boiled in water? Also the brass "tamper" you described is actually for taking the chamber and screen out of the mouthpiece, assuming it is for the same purpose it was in the Iolite.

I hated the first iolite, but i really love my wispr. I was really surprised at the hit quality compared to the first one. I have vidoes if anyone wants to see. I try to show how much vapor it produces. I rate it right up there with my extreme q. I'm picky when it comes to vaporizers.Your link text

about the taste. I didnt have that problem at all with mine. When you say rinse? do you mean with ISO? If not maybe you should try soaking and swabbing with iso. I was kinda noticing warm strong hits, but now I use a extension tube and mouthpiece and it works great now. If you check at gotvape they have comfort kits for the wispr.

rkorson4209,
Just ordered my Wispr today. Almost broke me...
I'll post my opinion when it arrives.
I did buy an iolite the other day, but it arrived used, so I sent it back.
I'll take it as a sign that the Whispr and I are meant to meet...lol

Well my wispr is dead. It 's had a dodgy switch since new ie: wouldnt turn off first time
and lighting on first switch which i wasnt that bothered about but now it has a gas leak and wont hold the
gas it emptys from somewhere inside in about 1 minute, i think a split pipe or
something I have contacted O&B. Awaitng their reply

Why smoke and die, when you can vape and fly?
The number 1 problem with the iolite and now it seems, with the Wispr is reliability.

After about 9 months, my original iolite, received in June 2010, began to take about 20 - 30 clicks on the ignition button to start, plus no ignition, at times, on restart. I returned it to O & B, and they replaced it. But within 3 months the replacement had failed to start, even after 50 or more clicks.

I phoned O & B yesterday. They offered to replace it immediately with a new one, after testing it beforehand. I thanked them, offered to return the faulty one immediately, and asked them to take it apart to identify the cause of the problem.

so the big question remains "is the wispr worth the upgrade from the iolite? i have an iolite that has always worked perfectly and still does... is there any compelling reason to prefer the wispr over the iolite other than gas tank life?

@ users of both; how do they compare after a bit of use?

the wispr has my interest but i'm still vacillating and looking for user feedback.

based in the few reviews, so far im not seeing it being worth it, with small improvements im not seeing much reliability increase if at all.

I haven't used the wispr yet, but I got a good deal on one and should have it soon. I bought an iolite when they first hit the market as i-Inhale, and collected a beta unit later on. I've only suffered a broken mouthpiece, and that was my fault, so it doesn't spook me much to invest in a wispr. I really shouldn't want one that much, but somehow I do.

I think your question would be better stated as 'reason to buy' the wispr over the iolite. Unless you dislike the size/shape of the wispr (or the limited/crappy color selection), I think most would prefer it. You get quicker heat up, less hissing, more reliable mouthpiece (should be anyway), and a fuel gauge. And on performance, hits are reportedly bigger.

Considering the iolite prices on eBay though, I don't know that the wispr would be worth the extra $ for price consious shoppers. Even with FC coupon codes, you could probably get an iolite AND a MFLB for the price of a wispr (or very close to it). It's kinda like the DBV vs. SSV dilemma. Whether the SSV's worth the additional $80 or not depends on what features are important to you and how much the extra $ means to you.
