Great news, I was concerned as to whether you were going ascend that learning curve. Worth the trip, no?
For me, screens have just tended to accumulate; they last a long time, especially if only flower in them.
New stems usually come with 3 screens. Check out the tapered mouthpiece stem (smoked glass!) as a way to get a nice inexpensive ($8) upgrade, it's almost like buying 3 screens! or the 5-4-5 special looks like a nice variety pack, though idk how many screens may come with it.

enjoy your new friend!
Thanks!

Worth the trip...yes!

I’m at the very beginning of this journey. But I’ve packed my bags and brought water, food, and other necessities so I’m ready for the long haul.

So far, I’m getting better results from wattage mode. @bossman helped me set up 2 profiles; one wattage and one tc. Either I’ll stick with wattage or tweak tc (which I’m sure I’ll do anyway).

I did discover the heat on the stem, even though the vapor remains very cool. Stem testing should be fun too. I do have a tapered stem. Just haven’t tried it yet.

I admit I am concerned about stem breakage. This seems like a great stay at home vape because of the stem attachment method. I’m very okay with that.

Would it be possible for you to write step by step instructions? Did you do it on mac or on a pc? I have my splinter and wismec in mail, picking it up later today, so this exact process is ahead of me.
I wish I could pay it forward...I just don’t have the skills. So sorry!

I did mine on a pc. Here’s the link for Arctic Fox - https://nfeteam.org/forum/threads/p12-arcticfox-190624.3895/

I also had to download the tools. Make sure you plug your mod to your pc using its included cable. A generic cable doesn’t work right.

I really don’t have IT skills and the process was daunting. I’m sure a skilled fc’er here will be able to walk you through.

Don’t be overwhelmed! Once set up, you’ll have nothing but fun!!

I wanna share my method with the Splinter .
I use wattage, started at 38w, 2 second preheat and boom, then I add plus 1 second preheat to every hit. (Preheat: 1st hit 2 second, 2 hit 3 second, 4 second ect and finish the bowl at 39 w....
i use my Spilnter dry, with great results.

Old & In the Way
I also use wattage mode all the time, but I vary a little.
I adjust usually between 32 and 38 watts depending on how a 'batch' is behaving and how fully loaded the stem is, and how fast I want the session to be over. Always on the higher end if using water.
I also almost always do a little preheat for a couple/few seconds then some primer puffs for first blush, before staring to draw in earnest.
After the first hit the load is usually well conditioned (dried and producing) so for the rest of the hits it's more a matter of not over-cooking!
I do really enjoy the Splinter V1+, my only rbt experience so far, just with a Sinuous P80 on it, and I'm really looking fwd to joining the Milaana club when M3 arrives.

**my wife, on the other hand, does not want to hear much about methods and how many secs to draw or shit like that, just hand her something that is powered on, producing and won't combust! I give her a Grasshopper or we share a Mighty. ;)

It's been a while since I last visited FC. I wanted to get a splinter or splinter z long time ago but now it looks possible because the sales on the site, which brings me to my question; are the differences between the v1 and v2 only wood type and tempered glass? What are the differences between the Z v1 & v2?

AFAIK, the only difference is wood: bubinga vs blackwood.
The glass is the same.

Splinter for 90 CAD, Z for $110. I'm thinking about the best device for convection on the go as G43 isn't really for the road. Why go Z over splinter?
Bubbinga vs blackwood? So v2 is blackwood with smoked glass? Only difference? Neither is 'better' than the other? And they both come with a water adapter?
Lastly, how well do these vapes do with concentrates?

Appreciated

Z has larger more complex heater, Splinter smaller and still very effective. V1s were bubinga and V2s are blackwood with smoked glass. Performance is equal regardless of V# and I don't know that they come with WPAs you'll have to read where you buy what's included... I use my custom Z for convection dabs using a Fierce concentrate pad inside the 19/19 WPA through an inline honeycomb rig. Z probably better for dabs since you can go higher wattage, but more of a home portable unit than Splinter.

I went for the Z, with a cooling stem it should be usable and I'm not really looking for a pocketable device. If I did I'd be using the mistvap I have. I needed a portable device that is capable of delivering milky clouds through water.

More noob questions -

How far do you deplete your batteries using the rx gen3 dual (on Arctic Fox, if that matters) before switching out to fresh ones?

How long do batteries keep their full charge? I’m charging my extra set now, but I’m not sure when they’ll be switched out.

Do you turn your box mod off between pulls?

So much to learn... Thanks!

RBT has an IG stream up wherein he assembles custom splinters. Informative.

@Mr. Me2, from what I've read, batteries are best stored between 20 & 75 - 80%. Now that you've fully charged the batteries, they should keep for months.

Don't turn the mod off between hits. I have a mod that times out itself & turns itself off between hits if I don't take another hit on a timely basis. I gotta figure this out since it's a pita to keep turning it back on. I really have upgrade from stock firmware.

Thanks for your quick response, what do you mean correct size fitting?

What I meant is will any adapter from dh gate or other work?

And that's what I meant. Depending on which Splinter version you have, you may have a different depth 18mm joint. 18mm or 21mm deep.

Many of the fittings on dhgate don't list their depth, and are 21mm deep.

This thread is full of discussion over this very topic you don't have to search, just look back a bit.

And for the record, it works very well with water like this.

Unless you have a used Splinter from 2018, you'll need a 19/19 or 14/19mm adapter which is a proprietary RBT-sized joint. dhgate won't have them. Check out RBT website. Don't know where you are located. Vgoodiez may still have some left, sneakypete may carry them & Vapefiend probably has them. I just recently grabbed both sizes from RBT website. Figured I'd grab them while still available.

I have so many vaporizers. But I see a sale n I gotta have it. Been trying to research rbt all day! Z has got me. Adding it to the collection

My only concern now is sourcing xl8r stem as it seems a mandatory accessory. 19/19 mm WPA I should be able to find at the local shop

As said above, this is a proprietary size. You won't find it. (Even the 19/22 is proprietary.) You can buy a 26mm wpa & dremel it down yourself or you could have a custom piece made. Path of least resistance is to buy it from an authorized retailer. Where are you located?

Awaiting one last response from sneaky Pete then I'll place an order tomorrow for all the pieces.

Bit of 80 grit wet/dry sandpaper and a small diamond file together with a few drops of water and a bit of patience works miracles in shortening overlong ground glass joints ;)

On Feb. 25th, @duff posted this in this thread. If you can't see the imgur pics, go back to his post & press the Reply button. They hopefully should show in the post box.

This "tutorial" may already exist but I couldn't find it.

I got 2 nice 18/14 adapters from OGB but didn't get them cut to fit RBT vapes.
Went to Home Depot and got a diamond cutting wheel and gave it a go.

Marked the height with the best fitting stem on my Splinter.
IWtWMIu.jpg

Took the diamond blade to the ground joint.
Take your time and go slowly.
High speeds on the Dremel will chip the glass.
Stick to speeds 1 or 2 for the cleanest results.
PaaieP6.gif

To clean up your edge, rub the glass on the side of the wheel (the outer rim of the wheel is textured) to sand it down.
After the cutting and sanding.

To flame polish I grabbed my plumber's torch and a pair of needle nose pliers to hold the adapter.

Polishing probably took about 5 minutes but I'm sure that I could have gone longer.

Overall it was very easy and OGB has some nice stuff.
