for what its worth...

i find the LB took a while to get right, i burnt some and under cooked some at first but now im getting it just right... though i do have to admit it often takes me 2 batteries to get through one load and i have to make the loads smaller than id ideally like (dont over fill the trench) grinding the herbs really well and shaking regularly seems to help too

but it definitely works well and is very efficient, as long as you shake it between tokes and dont use too much... you also have to draw VERY slowly and be aware of the heat/taste on your lips and suck harder/softer accordingly...

Two batteries for one trench? I get like three-four trenches for a battery!

Is your herb dry or moist?

After a good four or five days and about 20 or so trenches later, my initial "concerns" are over with; as of right now, I love this little thing.

Things I love:

Portability - Duh. This should honestly be one of, if not the biggest, reasons for purchasing. I can take this everywhere. As of right now, if I plan on going anywhere, running errands, or doing anything where I am capable of toking (basically everywhere besides when I need to do school work), I bring the little pouch with the box, a small case of some charged batteries, and a little medicine bottle where I store some already ground up herb, and just go! If I feel like a toke, I just fill it up with with my herb, stick a battery in, and hit!

Usage - Its gets me high. Actually, more high than I honestly thought it was going to get me before purchasing. So far, one MEDIUM sized trench can get me and a friend both sufficiently stoned. Two trenches, and we'll both agree on chillen for a bit. Its very convenient too. Already once so far, I've come home from a late night, feeling like a toke, and opted to just do a trench from my box, than taking out my SSV (I dont have the privilege of just keeping her out all the time :( ) and I certainly did not regret my decision!

While I have only had this puppy for less than a week, the one factor that has improved my experience with the mfb the MOST is how finely ground the herb is. So far, the more fine the grind, the better the taste, efficiency, and high I've received.

I wont be giving up my first born SSV any time soon, but for on the go, its awesome.

I retract any disapproving statements I have said about this product.

one big factor in the performance of the LB that I don't see discussed very much are your actual ground up buds. Before just stripping off a bud and putting it in your grinder, take a minute and break it up a bit in your fingers and remove as many little twigs as you can. These stems/branches/twigs as small as they may be do not vape and will just insulate your herb from the heat. The stems/twigs etc. seem to effect the performance to a greater degree in the LB compared to other vapes.

id say the herb is "just cured" so neither too moist or too dry? hard to say for sure though

i think the reason im using more batteries is because im shaking it a lot between every inhalation or removing the battery too often? but basically im trying to make sure its really dark green/brown in colour before i decide that load is "spent" but generally once it starts to taste like "burnt popcorn" i stop...

im sure my technique can and will be improved on though, i may just be over vaping it all as its my first vape and i dont want to feel like im not being efficient with my herb!

I should note that I live in chicago, and I get pretty good stuff. Not always name brand status, but if not of that caliber, a notch below, but still really nice. I'd imagine the lower % buds would really call for me to sprint thru 2 or 3 trenches to get good. I'd guess I'd have to finish two trenches of mid grade in ten minutes to get nice and medicated.
I'm in Chicago too, vaping some AK47 in my Launch Box :)

Hi,

Reviewing the responses above, it seems that most people are doing well with the Box after a bit of experimentation. I definitely agree that it is important to have the material finely ground for best results. Use a good grinder. Electric ones work especially well, particularly on dry material. If in doubt, or concerned especially with efficiency, using smaller amounts can be helpful in some situations.

Spooky, it is unfortunate that you are displeased with the Box. From your comments, it does seem that it is not so much a question of improper function as it is one of usage patterns, and therefore, not a warranty issue -- leaving me no real recourse to obtain your satisfaction (aside from the tips offered above and elsewhere in this thread). Perhaps the material you are using is too sticky and clumps up so much that shaking/stirring simply does not work? If your demand is for a portable convection vaporizer, your best bet may be the VG (both the Iolite and the VM3 are conduction models). If you post it here http://www.fuckcombustion.com/viewtopic.php?id=453, someone may offer you a one for one trade -- LB for VG.

Perhaps this situation could have been avoided if there was some sort of "try before you buy" option for vaporizers in general. Unfortunately, the legal situation as it stands today precludes any possibility of this for just about everything -- bongs, vaporizers, regular pipes, etc, whether sold in stores or online. I agree that this is frustrating. As such, we must request that people be and become as informed as possible before they purchase to see if the Box may be the right product for their usage habits and preferences. There is no one "perfect" vaporizer. If people are expecting the Box to be a panacea, there will be disappointment! The truism to think of here is that we cannot please "all of the people all of the time" -- there will always be some who are unhappy. We make the best compromises we can.

I have had a chance to review all of Spooky's posts to FC (all 10 of them). There is a clear pattern of declaring a preference for a convection vaporizer -- specifically the Extreme vaporizer is mentioned in five of those posts (fully half of them). Of the 10 total posts, 7 of them are in one aspect or another negative comments about the Launch Box (there are 9 posts total in the MF Box threads). It is abundantly clear that Spooky purchased the Extreme first, and is now using that desktop model as the 'reference standard' against which the Box (and potentially all vaporizers) will be compared and found wanting. This is unfortunate, for it seems to indicate a similar "first vape" bias of opinion that most people have for their first lover or their first real hit -- nothing afterward is ever quite as good. In such situation, recommendations or other offers are misplaced, and are best avoided. In some games, the only way to win is not to play.

To put this into perspective, I have had people declare to me just as vehemently that their trusty bong is the best possible delivery method for all materials, and that they have never found a vaporizer, any vaporizer, to be acceptable or as good as their bong. Its the same argument, really, and it does not matter what answer or comment is given afterward -- an opinion is an opinion, and usually unchangeable regardless.

vap3 master
ok mine took two weeks! but i got one small issue with it

it seems i tend to cook one side of the herb, so when i dump it all out you got green and black all over the place.

so is the technique is to shake the thing while inhaling it or?

how fine can you grind the herb?

edit; I just finish using it (did 3 trenches today with the included batteries) and i notice the bottom sometimes get a little black and i gotta use the brush it came with and lightly back and forth (no pressure) to clean the screen. It seems pieces and bits love to stick on it and i didn't want it to get caked and possibly burn since im not use to the super fast warm up time!

with every vape there's a learning curve if all the vapes i've used in the past taught me anything.

I love how small it is, been comfortable in my pocket all day, using it in public is a challenge though without being seen.

too bad there's no other led included (green) to let u know when u should pull out the battery. IT would be activated when the chamber gets to 375F or something, then the yellow would turn off and the green led would come on!

but i guess once you develop your technique it should provide flawless vapes with no burns.

I'll post my experiences when I master it.

Something new I've figured out, if your herb is a little corse or chunky. Go ahead and take a couple drags to dry it out good, then dump it out in your hand, and take your fingers, with little pressure it will crumble to dust, then put this back in. The dust gets more evenly heated than the large pieces. Happy Vaping.

Any good recomendayins for best quick charger on a tight budget??

I don't want to drop a bunch of cash but I don't want to ruin my batteries.

After 2 days of use I definitely haven't gotten much efficiency out of my launch box, it does get me keyed though. the same amount of bud would get me twice as keyed in my extreme. It looks like half the bud is getting very well done while a bunch of it is still green. Hitting it more after this point so far just seems futile but I'm still working on it. It's all good though because I can just hit it a few times in my extreme at the end of the day or put it in the duff jar so future tincture is that much better.

By the way thanks for the quick responses Magicflight, I'm sure all my questions have been answered in this thread, it's just impossible to find them. I appreciate it.

Wow that charbger looks like the real deal. Haha I don't think there's any way I can not buy that now. I've been coming up on lots of batteries just finding them places and they seem to work pretty well but I'm sure there not operating at 100%. Is that part about bringing old batteries back to life legit?

Anybody try this in extreme cold or at 11000+ elevation? Im looking for a portable to take snowboarding and from my experience with the iolite it still works at elevation decently, but with the combination of the cold it takes forever to get it going. Would any one recommend the flight box over the iolite for snowboarding?

Magic Flight - Any good news about the plug in power source? I want one sooooooo bad!!!!!

Unrelated, I found out why my charger should not be used as a battery carrier...while eating lunch at perkins today my backpack began to emit a strange odor. I opened it up to find one of the batts had somehow come loose and made contact with at least one of the others, heated it up and melted a bunch of the plastic casing(stanky!). It also fried the charger, but the batteries appear to have survived. A fool learns from their own mistakes, the wise learn from the fool. Be wise ;)

I went up riding with my launch box for the first time yesterday. I was only at around 6000 ft I think (crystal mt wa). Anyways I ground up my dro very fine the night before and left it to dry overnight. I also sprinkled a bunch of kief in the bowl just for good measure. It worked well on the lift, the batteries were cold for sure, I don't know whether they were operating at full potential or not, I've only had the thing for a week. We vaped 2 trenches with 2 and a half batteries though and they all had some juice left. It's hard to tell how good of a hit you are getting on a lift but it was working for sure. This thing really shined in the lodge though. We got done with lunch and ripped it for a while in the crowded lodge with ski patrol everywhere and shit and it was working better than I've ever experienced. The lodge was about half way up the mountain so it could have something to do with elevation. Anyways, keep your batteries from freezing and dry your bud out well and I'd say this is a pretty sweet ski vape. Definitely easier than smoking on the lift.
Oh it was probably like 20 degrees out and warmed through the day with light to medium winds and pow!

I dunno about 11,000 feet, I'm headed down to mammoth in a moth though, then Ill let you know!

Thanks for the response Bluntface, its awesome you already are riding powder this season! I figured keeping the batteries warm would be the issue, and I decided to order it! Crested Butte opens Wednesday and now im even a little bit more excited to go snowboarding.

I've had a couple days with my Lb and I like it. I'm still trying to get the technique down. I'm putting power in for 5-7 sec, hitting really slow for about 10, cutting power and continuing to hit for 3-5 more. I flip, tap, shake and reset. I don't get the same effect as smoking the same volume, but I'm trying different things. I'm using from the same batch I've been picking from for the last 3 months (number 1 big buds from a blueberry crop). My herb is brown when I'm done. I grind with a 3 inch true blends. It's fine enough that if I used this in a pipe without a screen, it would get sucked through right away. I'm going to get a coffee grinder today to see if it makes a difference. My batteries are 1.4v when I start and ~ 1.2v when I finish a trench.

If I could make any change I would increase the width of the trench by 25%. I would also add a 1mm lip on the shoulders of the trench to allow shake to accumulate there during the flip and shake. I can imagine the effect will be better as I develop proficiency with the unit but I can see that use of an electric grinder would increase the results.

This is my first vaporizer and the effect is such that I'm already looking for a new home for my beloved bongs. I'll miss you fuckers.. *sniffle*
