I have dug around here for a while today and cant decide what to do. I am definitely getting one of these two. The price is a pretty big factor, which is a point in the DBV's favor. Which one is more efficient though? I just dont want to end up buying an SSV down the line if I get a DBV. Should I go ahead and spend it on the SSV or would the DBV be all the wifey and I need? Thanks for any and all opinions offered.

I suspect the difference in efficiency between the DBV and the SSV would be very hard to detect. They both have very similar heater assemblies and method of draw, so it may be more a question of aesthetics, customizing, (SSV) and price (DBV). I don't believe anyone has done a recent side-by-side since the SSV changed the glass assemblies.

(TokenGLX? Any thoughts on this one?)

i always go for the best. in that case, i would go black SSV cause their sick looking and rip clouds from what i hear. i think its better to have the best form of a model than to upgrade. just my :2c:.

P.S. i saw a surfer in harold and kumar 2 and freaked out. i couldnt believe it. :o

I'll be nice and move this thread into "Ask the Vaporists" so I might be able to help.

Functionally, the SSV and DBV are pretty much the same other than the ground glass connection which is optional on the SSV and the only option with the DBV. Aesthetics are the real difference.

Which one is more efficient though?
Both of them can be turned up hot enough to combust if that's what you mean by "efficient". If efficiency is really what you're after I think most people will agree that a vape with a smaller bowl is more efficient on herb usage.

The fact that you're asking these questions about these two units would suggest that you probably need to do some more research. Digging around here for a while in one day is likely not enough if you're a complete newbie.

As vtac said, efficiency isn't an issue between these two. The guts are identical. The main differences are heater angle, hands free on the DBV, and a slight difference in the way the vapor stream hits the bowl. If "price is a pretty big factor", I'd get the DBV, although you can get the price dif down to about $55 by using your FC membership for a 10% discount at vapenow.com. He has the Surfer but isn't selling the DB yet.

ok, now got 5 days of lurking and researching...

Still can't decide! I am leaning the DBV way, but will probably flip back and forth a few more times. I have decided that I will order one of these this weekend, just need to figure out which one.

I guess there are worse dilemmas...

honestly, picking either one is a great choice. as a few people said, they are pretty much the same thing minus the price. if money is a factor, i say dbv easily. if you care about custom glass, go with the ssv. thats really what its all about comparing these two units.

so i can get the SSV for $210 shipped on the bay. Can this decision get any harder?

lol... not much on the extreme in comparison. I just offered 200 shipped for the ssv. I talked to 7th floor too, and they were telling me the GG can get stuck together and also fall out fairly easily when passing the whip too.

I had a DBV, I gave it to my brother when the wife got me a SSV for Xmas. I would say they hit pretty much the same but I wasn't a fan of the GG on the DBV. I never had problems with it getting stuck, but the falling out when your friend is taking a hit or when passing it, happened to me all the time.

peace

If you're not picky about the colors this is a great price-only $42 more than the DBV. I'd go for that deal personally, but then I'm a Surfer fan too. :ssv:

Hi, first post. I have been trying to read up a bit on these boards to bring my self up to speed. I found myself in a similar buying quandary as the OP (BDV vs. SSV). I find myself leaning toward 7th Floor mostly due to TokinGLX's extensive product use videos. When you have never used a vape besides some crappy dome in collage, and none of you friends do, actually seeing the product in action is a fantastic advertisement. 7th Floor should be thrilled that they have such a well and outspoken fan of their work. I sure am :)

With all that said, I do have a question or two. The first:

What is the bay? Ebay? The second, I know that something like the PDV is better for smaller, personal sized delivery, but how would the SSV (or Da BV) do for the occasional sitting home alone, want a small bit of entertainment, not getting totally ripped. Would it be effective for vaporizing small amounts at all, or would I really need two vapes to fit my needs?

Thank you for your help.

Hi tuttle. Welcome to FC. First, let me get you straight on abbreviations. It's DBV (Da Buddha Vaporizer), not BDV, and we don't add the 'V' to PD. It's just PD for 'Purple-Days'. "the bay" is eBay (not really an abbreviation there though :/ ).

No, you do not need two vapes to fit your needs. You certainly can vape a small amount in the 7th Floor units, or any other vape for that matter. It's just that the PD, with its tiny bowl, makes it easier to vape small amounts. It's like eating a frozen dinner. When you take it out of the box and look at it, it may not look like it's enough food to fill you up. But a few minutes after eating it, you may well find that you're no longer hungry. If you'd eaten out at a restaurant, or your wife cooked a big meal with plenty left for 2nds and 3rds, you'd probably end up overeating. That's the tendency with standard sized whip vapes. You end up taking big hits and finishing off the bowl, and then you're ripped when you really only wanted a small buzz. But the way around that is to just load a small pinch in the big hitter, or load a big bowl but only take a small hit (the latter option is much tougher ;) ). You can get small hits and efficiency from big hitters, it just takes some discipline and it's generally not as enjoyable as doing the same small amount in the PD.

I currently have the DBV and think it is great. I will agree with Max, that loading a good size amount and then only taking a small hit is VERY hard to do. Blame it on lack of will power!

I have not had very good luck when trying to load a small bowl on the DBV. When I've tried this I don't seem to get the same results as when I load a normal amount. May just be me.

Ordered the PD a few weeks ago and can't wait for it to show up. I found that with the DBV I was going thru too much herb, so that is why I ordered the PD. Can't wait to see how efficient it is.

I have not used the SSV, but have read many good reviews on the vape. I chose the DBV due to $$, no other reason. I think you would be happy with either vape. Good luck.

Thanks for the clarifications, and for you input. :) It is very much appreciated.

Seeing as 7th Floor is currently back ordered, I think I will go and try my luck at a local shop.

I'm stuck with the same question but I think I'm going with Da Buddha. I'll be using mine by myself and like the hands free too, so I'd say Da Buddha is best for me and I think the price is enough to make me get DBV. Since they're so similar and not much of a difference between ability to customize and thing, I choose DBV I think.

can you really go wrong with any really good vaporizer? i just got my 'cano yesterday and I was shocked at

a.) how long a tiny amount of weed lasted!!
b.) how stupid high it got me.

i ground up a very small bowl pack's worth of weed and i was hitting that thing ALL NIGHT! i am not sure what people are talking about when they say that something like the volcano or ssv are inefficient. I think in the end it's probably how you choose to use the equipment that makes the efficiency greater or not. Before I got the 'cano i would have probably smoked about four or five times as much last night. I'm going to guess that the PD is even more efficient, which is pretty amazing.

That being said I think that my vaporizer collection will not be complete without a SSV and a PD. I'm going to order an SSV today. and hook myself up with a PD in a month or two. Generally, from what I've read about the SSV, you can get about 20 good vapory hits off of about 0.2 grams. For me that would mean 0.2 gramsof weed would be about two session's worth, which is crazy!!

They're not inherently inefficient. They just encourage it.

I think in the end it's probably how you choose to use the equipment that makes the efficiency greater or not.
Correct. But you'll find it's not an easy choice. After you compare these two (and the amount you're using) to the PD I think you'll see the difference. ;)

Well the SSV arrived yesterday...WOW!!:o:o:o:o
at first I was putting in too much, and it was hitting, just not anything out of this world. Then I tried a little under 1/4 inch (not much at all) and HELLOOOOOO SSV! Tastes great, and will take your head clean off your body! It kind of took me back to when I first started smoking (20 years ago) I had not been that stoned so quickly in a LONG time. Thanks for all assistance in making this FANTASTIC choice

Did you have to bid on it to get it for that much? I'm on e-bay and I only see $249, and they are all buy it now. Maybe a little communication with the seller perhaps?
