Tek Spiderman's Oil Extravaganza!

? & beyond
No. I've only heard of a few folks talking about 'auto-buddering' actually.

My guess is that is from a variety & combination of moisture in material, improper purge technique, them messing with the oil too much, or vacuuming it too much.

Remember, budder is also extremely strain dependent. ;)

Word, I'm going to order a brake bleeding kit and try it out. I noticed when my errl "auto budders", it's usually because I mixed in too much air while stirring the "puddles" of oil to make sure the butane from the top of the puddle is gone, along with not purging long enough. Just gotta do more experimenting.

thanks for the extra motivation to get off my ass and try this

That looks like it could either use a bit more purging, or a better filter/screen.

You are right. Something is awry in that pic. The bottom left section that's a darker colour is older oil from a previous batch. I just dropped the new oil on top since it was from the same batch of plant.

That and it looks like it's full of 'tane still. Just sayin'....
Thanks for the advice. This is only my second or third successful run. I'm still working on the purging technique.

It smokes and tastes good. I am following all the directions for extraction and I use Colibri. I am purging by burning off all the bubbles with a torch. I had purged it a bit more after that pic I posted.

Well one thing I did notice on my run today. Sometimes I use too much butane and the bottom of the plate frosts up leaving some water drops on the plate with the oil. Maybe I just need to leave it overnight to purge or for 24 hours then. And stop spraying the second it turns clear.

EDIT:

This is what it looks like after I gave it a bit of heat and mixing.

looks like moisture in your oil.. make sure your material is dry, make sure your extractor is dry, and make sure your plate is dry.. just my $0.02

Thanks that makes sense. I looked at the oil this morning from the previous pic I posted and it looks all dried out on the outer layer now.

I'm going to make another batch today being more careful to keep dry and purging as much as possible to see how it turns out. Hopefully I can get the method down in this run, it's is the last of my bud.

Ok. Here's the after morning pic of that blob.

EDIT:

Made another run with some help from fear. Stuff was hard like candy this time.

You know how concentrate orange juice works?? Think of the same concept just with herb. Super small amounts with massive results. It's quite fun lol.

Anyways, my actual intentions for reviving this thread were to discuss the benefits of vaccuum purging in the erlwerld.

I know TokeCity and FuckCombustion are quite connected. A member, D-note, there put up a great write-up on vac-purging and a discussion has ensued there. It's not necessary 'new', as certain individuals have been doing this for some time, but it appears to have finally hit the mainstream or at least accepted by multitudes as a beneficial piece of knowledge.

I'm fairly convinced it's a great advancement in purging technique. The only potential 'drawback' is requiring to buy something else, and investing a bit more time (potentially A LOT more time if you get a manual vaccuum hand-pump). The benefits are all in the product; cleaner, stronger, stable & safer. That is what us oilheads are after, right?

I got a Freshsaver Foodsaver and have purged one lil' run with it, and 'cleaned up' what I had thought was some of my best errl yet; it made it better!

(These are the exact pictures from TC, so you aren't missing much from me; lots of other folks have posted their information and pictures which I don't feel like regurgitating here.... scope it for yourself!)

Place Foodsaver ontop of mason jar (I've since started using a smaller, jelly jar, about half the size). Adapter required isn't picture, but it isn't even 100% necessary depending on your tab size, which we will get to.

These are the seals I use;

It's just electric tape with a small strip of parchment/wax paper. Borrowed from this blog.

This is about as good as I got for an action shot.
On my last batch I was unable to balance a camera, while safely vacuum the jar, surrounded by expensive glass. :/
http://i1022.photobucket.com/albums/af342/dinosaursaredead/Oil/vac001.jpg

But anyway, what happens is the oil puffs up as a vacuum is created, and all the butane is literally sucked right out of the oil. Something to do with vacuums lowering the boiling point of things, and basically ambient temperature removes the butane. If the container you are 'vacuuming' is placed in a shallow dish of warm water, the heat will accelerate the process as well with no harm.

It's recommended to do a normal spray technique (outside) and hot water purge for at least a few minutes to avoid dealing with foam, and minimize butane indoors. From there, scrape it up and place it into a dish for a lot of foamy action, or alternatively you can purge as normal, and then apply a vacuum to 'clean' up your oil. What you thought was 'purged to perfection' might surprise you! (<---- I'm not alone in this statement.... :D )

I'd like to hear what folks at FC think!!!!!
before n after pics??

after vacu-purging, my oil became very crumbly and difficult to get a hit on a pin. but tasted sooo good

i've also had positive results using the same pump to sort of freeze-dry herb before making oil. the herb is already cured but i find the oil is better if i dry the herb more

the Wikipedia page on extracts and BHO mentioned using R134a refrigerant as a solvent option. Anyone know anything about this?
