Constant power... 'cept going to the ride and back. ;)

Reply to that 'other' thread...
"silver based no lead solder..."

Our solder is 97% Tin, and 3% Silver, only. Fully certified RoHS compliant. Just as all our components are. We maintain an open book on our parts order history. If Lead-Free wasn't important why mention it? ;) (post #389 in that thread)

Tom, just wondering about the silver comment. I know why people are worried about brass, with the lead content, but why would silver be something of concern? Thanks.

Silver is not a concern. Never has been.

Calling a mostly Tin solder 'Silver based' seems a bit over-board unless you show the numbers... The use of lead-free solder, and the reference to it, in a thread that claims no concern for lead in a vape? Then, nobody is allowed to talk about lead? Wait, isn't that a bit hypocritical? Come on... :2c:

I see your point. I have followed both threads, as I am certain you have. That random mention of soldering there seemed a bit off or out of place to me too.

To be fair (if memory serves), Rick never said lead free wasn't important. He said he didn't believe the tiny amount of lead in the brass was a concern at vaporization temperatures. I also don't remember seeing anything about no one being allowed to talk about lead. In fact, on a number of occasions, Rick has said there was free speech in his thread. I also remember that you asked people to not post pictures of their PD in a thread. Now, I could be wrong. Maybe I just missed it. You have the post numbers where Rick said those things?

Tom, i dont think this should have any health concerns, (if it did im very sure you wouldnt of used it) but on your spring mechanism, but it appears to be zinc coated. now is there any concern about the zinc oxidizing?

Rick may say 'free speech', but it is not his forum.

See RULE #2. See post #91 in the 'A Piece of Art' thread, or post #14, #16, #53, #74, #75, #79, #118 and #119 in the 'Official Aromazap', all by moderators and all related to 'free' speech. Also note that people (Madcap, Dadesign and others) have been banned at times for the content of their posts.

And VTAC, #85... 'And unless you have verifiable proof (you don't), no more claims about the brass.' ie. the lead in brass.

Reece says,"I also remember that you asked people to not post pictures of their PD in a thread." operative word here is 'asked'. It was a request to not post PD pics in the Aromazap thread, just trying to calm the 'feud'. It was not a clamp on free speech it was a request by a fellow forum member.

The zinc plated spring steel retaining clip? Almost all metals oxidize. Zinc oxide? From Wikipedia: "Zinc oxide is an inorganic compound with the formula ZnO. It usually appears as a white powder, nearly insoluble in water. The powder is widely used as an additive into numerous materials and products including plastics, ceramics, glass, cement, rubber (e.g. car tyres), lubricants,[1] paints, ointments, adhesives, sealants, pigments, foods (source of Zn nutrient)" Zinc oxide is an FDA approved food additive. Not much of a problem. :)

This whole "free speech" thing comes up in forums a lot and is totally ludicrous. Forums are privately owned entities, and as such, free speech means absolutely nothing , for the content is totally mandated by the owners and operators of these forums...........as it should be.

lwien,

I agree with you regarding free speech.

Here's the thing... we've all got opinions and passions. They are unique to all and should be respected. Why do we have to get butt-hurt regarding either? We are human, so there's that. :)

Of course, error in fact is another issue. As Joe Friday used to say "just the facts, mam". That's why I appreciate this forum. it's provided the facts I needed to make an informed buying decision.

(It's also a lot of fun to hang out here.)

I think PD's are AWESOME. Honestly, if the delivery time wasn't so long I would have bought one. That being said, I love my Zap!

I enjoy reading Tom's posts. I've watched all of his videos. He's a craftsman and even if he doesn't want to be referred to as an artist, he's that too.

I also enjoy reading Rick's comments, and I feel the same about his art as I do Tom's ... for different reasons.

Anyway, thanks to all for all your opinions, thoughts and passions. It's those things that keep me coming back daily.

:peace:

As I recall Tom your request to not show PDs was in the "show your wood thread", not the AZ thread as you just stated.
I think it is pretty clear you do not want to show your standard PD next to the latest MZs.

I also think you are one tough guy. Able to work 80 hours a week keeping your family happy and still have time to be so thorough on this forum. I did note that you started this MZ diss again. (#4077)
Wuz up, sales down?

No it is not my forum. Not yours either.

Why don't you just keep to PD here?

LOL !! The PD's are on an over 9 week back order so I would have to think that sales being down is the LAST thing on Tom's mind.

Oh, thanks Rick. Yeah, that 'show your wood' thread... forgot about that one. It was another of those compare the two vapes. Started by a fellow who got banned? Easy to forget.

I just thought at the time it was best to calm the waters and made the request. No I don't want them side by side, beauty is only skin deep, as they say. And there is a lot more to the inside than the outside.

You must have missed the point about who's forum it really is.

What? Didn't we just get done with freedom of speech. And how you are the great defender? ;)

We all know there is more than one way to skin a cat.
There is also more than one way to keep a back order two months out. And we know how folks are. If you can't get something, you want it. A common marketing technique in todays world.
I'm outta here again with my tail between my legs. OMG!
And to repeat, if you truly want to calm the waters Tom, why start a comment on "the other thread"?

Hell, I could do that quite often over there but I just don't have the time. And I only work 40 hours a week! Maybe that is why I miss so many points on this thread. Or maybe I don't know the smiley face code!

Rick, believe me, I am VERY well versed in marketing techniques, but one doesn't have to go 2 and half months out to accomplish a scarcity ploy, for less than half of that would be all that is needed and for you even implying that a fellow vape manufacturer would stoop to those deceptive marketing tactics here at FC is truly bothersome and hitting waaaay below the belt.

I'm not a mod here, but if I were, I would put a stop to this shit. And if the said vape manufacturers couldn't behave themselves, I would give them a temporary ban, much like that has been done with other members here. Just because one is a manufacturer should not place them above the same rules and behavior that others are held to.

well seeing you slang your spelling with z's instead of s's...that makes me wonder why you tax the fact he uses smiley faces. Gives all this text a facial expression. Makes it easier to understand how someone feels.

oh rick...when are you gonna get it? :disgust:

I am not good with all the technical computer stuff... That I have to admit is a pretty damn funny line Rick. I actually laughed out loud for a second.

I do see Ricks perspective though. The man is simply trying to continue making a very unique vaporizer. Tom, you obviously have plenty of business, and I GREATLY respect your decision to not expand and keep PD production in the "family". That was your decison, and it won't be something everyone can deal with especially first time vaporists. That being said, due to the wait, our insistence here in instantaneous gratification, cost, and availability in other countries Rick will continue to plug along and sell his own fair share of vapes. Tom, you obviously can only make so many PD's. There is plenty of business available for the both of you. In essence, the hype around both of your vapes likely helped each other make sales. In fact, to make this statement true I will buy a MZ even after I have waited for a PD. I was interested in a second PD, but i wanted something different then cherry. Right now, not possible. I personally have little concern for brass, as I have used brass screens and a protopipe at much higher temps many times before over many years. Brass smoking screens are still mass marketed currently. Maybe i need to go a little Mad Hatter.

My advice to both of you fine gentlemen: "Let sleeping dogs lie"
Don't know where the quote came from but i think it was someone famous, like Jesus or something.

Wasn't sure so I looked it up. 'Just the facts, Mam...'

Wikipedia: "Mercury poisoning suffered by hatters in the 18th century and 19th century, when mercury was used in the manufacture of felt. Absorption of mercury through the skin can cause Korsakoff's syndrome."

(sigh)

You are correct but I am not talking about the First Amendment to the Constitution or any other government's protection of expression. My reply was in reference to the assertion that "talk of lead" is not allowed int that thread, which implies that Rick has squashed all such talk. Which, to the best of my knowledge, is not true.

All by moderators? It isn't his forum? Of course, but this isn't about the rules of the FC. You implied that Rick did not allow talk of lead. Why else would you say it was "hypocritical" to reference "lead-free solder" in a thread where "nobody is allow to talk about lead?" Hence my request for the post where this occurred, because I have not seen this.

I know why you made the request. That's why I though it was odd that you would say Rick was a hypocrite for not allowing talk of lead (if he has done this). Because, if he did stop lead talk, my first thought would be he is trying to keep the peace. That was my first thought when you asked that PD pictures not be posted in the Show Your Wood thread. I guess I could have thought, "Why is Tom afraid to put the PD up against the MZ," or, "Tom is a hypocrite because he talks about 'new world craftsmanship' but won't allow direct visual comparisons with an old world craftsmanship produced vape." But that would be pretty ridiculous. Just as ridiculous as your implying that Rick is afraid of lead talk.

While we are way off on this MZ/PD tangent (again?), Why not feel free to discuss it? I feel we just need to play nice and always be sure to differentiate fact from opinion.

I have used both and both preform similarly IME. I trust the materials of the PD more and love the transparency of the process and the involvement/dedication of the inventor.

I didn't imply that at all, and even went and got the post #s to show when and by whom the ban was impossed. Yes all those posts were by moderators, go check. And as you said and I said Rick is all for free speech. My point was there is no such thing as 'free speech'.

Got beef? Please send an e-mail through the link below the person's name/avatar.

Inappropriate mod note deleted. :p  JK, Max ;)

I love glass stems for Eterra-style vapes! :D

I am referring to this:
I have been using two glass pieces that I attach to a PD stem which was cut off at the base of the stainless silver tip and sanded down. Both glass parts are attached by 2" of silicone tubing (we soak the tubing in hot water to get it over the remaining PD stem and the glass attachment, making a near-perfect stainless steel and glass path :D ). One has a glass mouthpiece and the other has a GonG joint.
Old one hitters sometimes work well especially poorly made ones with large holes. Extreme mouthpieces, etc. work well too. a ring cut off of silicone tubing can make a great seal too. ;)

Was no one intrigued or inspired by this mod??? Or was it just lost in the posts that followed?

I have not been using the old-school PD stems since. :brow: Taste is slightly better, cleaning is MUCH easier, variable length/thickness/shape rocks.
