Beautiful!!! Is that Tulipwood?

This is all making my more and more excited.... I'm waiting for my special PP Package (PPP) to arrive in Canada. PP stems are beautiful, functional art....and VERY addictive.

Yes, it's Tulipwood with no carb, and I am SO happy I went carb-less! I didn't know my preference, even after owning an Omni and a Ti Woody XLS, but I know now without a doubt that I prefer no carb. Amazing functionality, it's definitely become my favorite.

I'll have to see if I can turn some little 2mm tapered plugs.

Just read that back and I'm shaking my head wonder WTF am I getting myself into.

But a nice contrasting wood or Tagua or Betel nut could look okay.

I'll be wearing my +3.5 reading glasses the day I turn them.

Thank you @Jen, so pleased you like it, Tulipwood looks great.

Not long now @Squiby, next few days and you'll be able to stop scowling at anyone who works for the post office.

@HD Springer that 14mm Snakewood is the one that's pushing me to buy a piece of glass, I can't believe how well it turned out.

Oh yeah I had a package show up the other day, our guy @phattpiggie told me he had a few surprises for me and wasnt going to show since I love the wait. This is my first experience with his work and I must say he knows his way with wood. Great great pieces all 3, first up

I believe its a blood wood twist maybe paduok am certain its stunning! I told him I wanted a twisted piece above all, I really dig them and the detail, very coo! You can see Daly was just as excited as I!

He also did me a XL tapered Cocobolo piece, I wanna say total length on this piece is 7" with a condenser the entire length

ZnOyPZ3.jpg

Then for the show stopper DAMN IT BOY piece, he did an extra long stabilized Buckeye Burl stem with Blackwood ends separated by metal, WOWZERS!

CIHgKFM.jpg

This one measures in at 7 1/2"L also with a condenser within. This piece has a couple voids in it like BE also does, the condenser closes them while giving it the extra character. Am really stunned by all 3 pieces and I thank you so much bro for these gifts, well done chief well done!

@Ed's TnT really pleased you like them, as I said there can't be many times someone makes something for you and given it your tenth year I saw it as an opportunity to change that.
You've been a big help since I got started out and it's been well appreciated.

Had a few problems with getting any kind of response on some blanks I was after from one of the suppliers, since seen in turning forum I'm not the only one.
Got to 'be nice' as he's the only person I can find in the UK who has M3 blanks.
I'm sure some of you will see something you like.
Top to bottom Amboyna burr, Thuya burr, Zebrano, Coolibah, a couple of M3 Mokume, Chatke Kok and a glued Blackwood A&W ali

The new guy sent me these Figured Walnut and Birds Eye Maple

Thanks again to all of you for your patience and it won't be long before I've got this list completed, it's been a challenge for me but so worthwhile, and thanks to everyone who's been in touch about the next list, you've all made my first 11 months a nerve racking but great experience.

Edit. More blanks on there way in some stunning woods.

A couple of Blackwood and Thuya with brass accents, the Square went out a while ago. A 'shit the bed' moment when it arrived by all accounts.

The Triangle was looking like a failure when the Thuya split but I took the same route as the pen turners and used a medium CA glue and it's pulled together and held fine for now.
Not really something I would normally do but as it was my first attempt at this shape I carried it on.

Had some more blanks arrive and had a play with the Yunstone, a carbide tipped tool is going to be needed as it took three hours and countless re-dressing of the normal wood chisels I used just to rough it out.
They have a very high percentage of crushed stone in them, 80+%, and should polish like marble.
It's got some weight to it, twice as heavy as Blackwood.`

All three of these pieces came from the same Cocobolo blank, Square, Eraser sleeve and stem.

Thuya reminds me of some women I've gotten tangled up with in the past: Beautiful, but so fragile and sensitive...

Such creative energy you're putting out, man. I really love the screw on cap idea for a vapcap on the go. The extender is also very awesome. But I think I love the curved triangle the best. I'm not even sure why.... It's just elegant and beautiful and so unique.

I'm always impressed with your work and look forward to a time when I can justify buying more art.

Well, the Post Office came through nicely. The tracking didn't transfer over to Canada Post from the UK so it was a surprise when my special Phattpiggie package showed up. And what a wonderful surprise it was. My new stems were very very well packed, each in its own tube and wrapped in foam wrap and secured within the box.

I have to say that Phattpiggies skill in turning these treasures places him in the fine woodworker of functional art category, beautifully made, meant to be used and admired, held and caressed. Stunningly beautiful stems, each and every one.

I took my new stems for a jaunt around the yard to hang out with some favorite flowers. This is the time of year to be outside with every opportunity. Here's a pic of the new family. Each one is more beautiful than last. My favorite keeps changing. They are all fantastic and poorly represented by these pics.

Here is a Blackwood Segmented Honey Bee hanging out with another Honey Bee.
fGahJXa.jpg

The tulips are long gone, so this Tulipwood Twist with integrated mp found a clematis instead.
kKs5heo.jpg

Another Honey Bee stem with an exposed condenser. The Honey Bee is totally pearly and iridescent. Really a wonderful material.
nqOsxbg.jpg

Here is a Harry Potter Paduak Twist. The Paduak is so deep and rich and luxurious. The twist is turned in the direction that compliments and somehow assists the twirling action. It's like its magic or something...
tQe02x7.jpg

This Blackwood Telescopic Twist has finely carved sharp twist ridges. It is wonderful to hold and the twist again mirrors the direction of my twirl technique. The Blackwood is such sophisticated wood and finishes to a deep sheen. The mp can be pulled out to expose the condenser and increase the airpath length. It is stunningly beautiful.
QEjtCeU.jpg

And here is the Segmented Honey Bee again hanging out with yet another honey bee busy at work.
TRvx5Zm.jpg

So, then it started to rain so I came inside to hang out with my most favorite flowers of all. CB Dream. Wonderful pain meds.
zMrucaV.jpg

You will notice that the mouthpiece end of the stems are narrower than the Dynavap mps. I really love this smaller mp profile. Very sleek and so comfortable to use. Beautiful and functional.

Thank you Phattpiggie for all your total awesomeness!!!

How does one decide on which stem to use first! So many options...

Those are all beauties @Squiby, I'm especially loving the blackwood twist, it catches the light so nicely.

Tracking thru the States is great, to Canada it's a different matter.
It shows it left the UK and that's about it.

I'm going to go back thru the thread and get some pictures printed, laminated and put up behind my lathe. All of your pictures help me keep track of WTF I'm doing.
This will be one of them. So pleased you like them @Squiby and thank you.
GiT1C4H.jpg

I tried to keep it all Myrtle Burl but it wasn't going to happen, and so as not to waste the blank I added the Blackwood ends. Hence the length of 173mm.
ON8DEtL.jpg

Birds Eye Maple Twist after a bit of abuse with some high carbon steel.

And some Figured Walnut which ended up at 140mm.

Other than the mind fuk that social media, IG, FC and VA present a 'salt and pepper' surfer I've had a great week.

Had one of these arrive and it's taken my VC experience to another place, more on this over here.

Can't wait to dedicate some time to a wooden enclosure for a portable version and a station for at home.
Shit loads of respect to @Pipes for putting in the time to prove the point and then put these things together outside of his 'proper' job.

Have a great weekend everybody.

All the new pieces are great !!! That pic that @Squiby took would definitely make a nice print . I went ahead and copped the portside since I lack the time to get creative with a skeletor right now . I'm sure you will make it into a peice of art ...

@needalift I love your pictures as well they are on my list, I love seeing my stuff in everyone's pictures almost makes it feel unreal and real at the same time.
I'm sure you'll find some 'waste' wood at some point to get something together.
Funnily enough you came to mind when I had the shed pumping to this earlier.
Common interests, different cultures thousands of miles apart.

And what film did I watch after this,
DAMN RIGHT IT WAS

Who said drugs were bad.

@Pipes ace, love it. Different experience.

Another great week, since I hit 50 I've tried to live my life with a happy disposition and so far it's been working.

One month off my first year, July 18th '16, at all this and it's been an eye opener.

Different level of concentration keeping up but so, so much fun.
