Smoking it will smell, the high setting smells worse than the low, I'd say med and hi smell about the same. I carry around two and I barely clean them more than once a week unless I put keef in it. OFF however, they dont smell too bad, they'll obviously smell more with a loaded/cooked oven. We got pulled over in Boston after using one, the cops did not search us,- they're notorious assholes, so if that helps at all. They were pissed too, my friend left a show with his lights off (smooth) and they pulled us right over.
    Agreed,
That is somthing that could easily be your imagination, I am not trying to dismiss your claim but think about it your getting blazed as shit and shaking the pax to check the battery, its not exactly accurate, try trouble shooting it a few times, by that I mean use it under the same conditions and record your results, come back and post them! From there, everyone here can tell you weather or not your pax is normal. I keep saying the battery indicator is wonky, and the pax will vape all the way til flat dead, I get about a half hour of use on both mine once they reach red, I think it indicates the last 30 percent of battery life.
Thats fine, only an hour I may be concerned with, but from what you described it seems like you ran it an hour but it was still running. The colors changing is the motion sensor kicking in, the oven was constantly heating and cooling while you were doing this, which will drain your battery much faster, so I'd say based on that your fine! Enjoy the pax! Theres a party mode that deactivates the motion sensor, hold your pax horizontal and rotate a few times like a screw driver, the lights will start blinking like crazy.
I'd say not, the indicator is weird, low temps can mess with their readings too... use it a week and then see how it goes, worse case its got ten years, the customer service is insane, in a good way, they will bend over backwards to make sure you are happy and get you a pax that works 100% I was told if it wasnt cleaned they'd just send it back home, so if that worries you, it shouldnt :D
edit- I'd like to raise a point, if my phone has one bar of life left, and I shut it off and restart it, it has 2 bars of battery, sometimes 3. Every phone I have ever owned has done this, EVERY SINGLE CELL PHONE, Its not that the pax is inaccurate, its just a rough estimate ment to be used as a way of knowing weather or not you'll be left out in the cold. Hope this maybe calms some worries. After all the indicator doesnt mean shit if its still vaping right? :D

Accurately measuring battery discharge is more complicated than one might think. Temperature highly potentiates battery voltage and small decreases in voltage indicate large amounts of charge or discharge. I'd just not worry about it unless if you are getting unsatisfactory run time.

Hey guys I'm a new pax owner and I love it so far. I have a couple of questions for you pros about how to get the best efficiency. I like to hold my vapor for 5-10 seconds sometimes even longer on the earlier hits. I know the pax is continually heating the medicine during this period, is it better to turn the pax off and then turn it back on 20 seconds later or should I just leave it on. I'd really appreciate any advice.

    Thanks,
    Adam

NO! hahah that'll kill your battery, its fine doing that, the vapor doesnt build up that fast, and when your ready to hit it it'll be nice and milked already :D i usually wait about 10-20 seconds to hit it when I smoke alone to let the oven build up the vapor.

it might be better to let the "stand by" mode kick in if you set it down, or just don't move it, it will go into a lower temp but won't power down completely. Then you just pick it up and give it a few seconds to catch back up to the temp again...

hi... this is my first post. i bought a pax 3 weeks ago and am having the same problems that had been talked about here about the battery dieing prematurly. the most time i had used it was max 30 mins in 2 session an hour apart, i still had a grren light when i "checked" the battery charge. when i went to use it next a couple of hours later it was dead, it wouldnt even light up. so only after 6 days of onwership i brought it back to the place i bought it, and 2 weeks later i still havent got it back :( i do live in canda and bought it from my local head shop, which they were selling them threw a another supplier. i wish that it would have been faster to get back.

This will happen if it gets too cold. Perhaps you were out and about when this went dead? You may have returned this for no reason.:(

    I can understand wonky and rough estimates but. Fully charged battery should be green m!ine come off the charger into my pocket nd was yellow 2hrs later. That not cool. So far though I'm at 45mins of use it went red at 35mins Im still goin. Actually time to start that timer again...;

I've used mine for like 43 minutes once from the time it went red until it died. Don't put so much faith in the battery indicator. It's a rough estimate at best!!!

Ahhh now I get it! But vaped is 100% right, that little "top off" charge that might make it turn yellow is not a significant amount of life. I mentioned it last page too:
If you can get at least 4 bowls out of a battery before it flashes red and cuts you off, I think that's pretty much performing as well as can be expected

Your battery could be faulty. It happens.

or it could be that hes blazing outside when its cold as fuck... is it cold as fuck when your outside with it? Are you leaving it in the car? Any prolonged cold, even if its in your jeans outside this can make it cold enough to malfunction, I tried hitting mine after shoveling my van and it didnt work proper, despite being in my pants pocket it was cold.

since condensation inside the unit is inevitable, and as we all know, metal gets cold QUICK, problems in the cold are going to occur, almost immediately, SCIENCE:)

Yep, I mentioned before I made a leather skin for this and it allowed me to use it in the cold, I let it heat up inside the skin first and it worked fine after that.

Anyone know where the current best deal on a PAX is?

I've had my Pax for a couple weeks and I love it. I haven't had any issues with it so far. My PD has gone cold for the first time in 3 years. Bittersweet.

It's been almost a week since my Pax arrived and I've yet to experience buyer's remorse. Contrary to other users' experience, my unit's battery has not been depleted and I have used it upwards of 40 minutes without issue. (I leave it charging over night and the weather where I live is mostly hot year round... hopefully the heat does not radically truncate the overall life span of the Li battery). I have no complaints and nothing really new to say except I feel a lot better since I switched to vaporizing. I have more physical endurance (particularly noticeable when I go cycling) and my mucus production has significantly decreased. I implore anyone reading this to buy a vaporizer (Pax is a great unit but there are a lot of great vapes out there). Consider that a few hundred dollars is really a bargain for one's overall health and long-term quality of life.

I ordered mine directly from Ploom, and received it today. I was just wondering why mine is the old, smooth finish, and not the newer one. Also, some people mentioned the 1 second delay on the temp button light when you remove the mouthpiece, theres no delay on mine, its illuminated as the mouthpiece is removed. whats up with that?

...perhaps they send the newer one for replacements, to avoid dis-satisfied customers having to return a second unit?
