FWIW I hear evap is fine but you shouldn't blast onto them. I've also heard reports that the lip/wall isn't as sturdy as it could be.

I should also note I've never used one.

I have these. They are neat because they fit standard pyrex without folding (unlike the oil slik mats). They definitely buckle and fold right up when exposed to extreme cold (as when you spray butane into them) and they are food grade (rather than lab grade) silicon i.e. safe to store your goodies in and maybe do your final purge but not NECESSARILY solvent-safe.

I like the slik mats better because I can lay them flat after purging to gather my good stuff.

Little bit a chatter on the oil slick thread about them in the last 2 pages.
@2clicker you have a slick pad or mat right.

well i dont use tane so no blasting at all. i do ethanol washes. i would assume this would be more than fine for evaping ethanol.

fuck yes DubC. thanks for jumping in! cant wait to hear your thoughts.

thanks for the input. i like the slikmats also, but im looking for something with raised edges/sides like a dish. this way i can do my final filtering directly into the dish for evaping (ethanol wash not butane). then when evap is done i could basically just peel off the oil instead of scraping with a razor. this sounds perfect to me.

good lookin out. i do have the two small slikmat set and love it. i would love it if slickmat made a pyrex pan liner for easy removal of oil after evap. in fact ive considered putting together a set of pans with liners as a product myself. the idea of the NoGoo 8 plate inside of a pyrex dish sounds great. or even w/out the dish if the NoGoo plate is stable enough. if not it will make the perfect liner for me.

so i looked into that thread and found this...

this makes me wonder if evaping ethanol inside a NoGoo dish may not be a great idea. maybe i should consider getting a roll of Slik Sheet and just form it into a liner in a pyrex dish and evap in that. sounds like the PTFE liner would be a better choice over the NoGoo dish...?

someone please reassure me that the NoGoo dish will be ok for EC evaporation. i really prefer the idea of the NoGoo dish, but if the Slik Sheet is safer then i will go that route. i imagine i would still be able to peel off the oil from a Slik Sheet just like the NoGoo.

DubC, how will be you testing your NoGoo dish/plate?

Just an FYI...I line my dish with "If You Care" natural unbleached parchment paper. I spray directly onto it with no problems. This brand parchment is one of few parchments that uses no heavy metal. It also uses no fillers and a natural silicone. According to plenty of studies, silicone does not break down or bind with Butane until after 48 hours of contact. (Via 710Society & SkunkPharm)

I used the oil slick pads, but noticed after a few uses (spraying directly onto) the weaving started breaking down. I have not seen any problems since using IYC parchment.

Good to hear about the purity of the materials,
but the name of the company always cracks me up, after I watched this comedy special.
I guess they make Saran Wrap too.

I plan on giving it to a friend with little to no instruction and seeing how long it takes him to order another. I'm sure he will do everything mentioned not to do in this thread, lol, so we shall see their durability. I'll take pics to update the integrity of the dish from time to time for comparisons.

You might want to check out Beyond Gourment parchment, as they do not use any silicon to coat the paper, instead they do an acid wash. Its the best parchment you can get IMO.

I simply use a like 9x11? slickpad. I form it to my evap dish and evap away. Afterwards I just pull it from the dish and voila!

been considering this as well. only problem i see for myself is that i use SS mesh to cover my dish. i do this to keep airborne contaminates out of the dish while evaping. i would imagine that a slickpad formed i side the dish would stick out the top of the dish in random places. thus making it harder to secure the SS mesh over all of it. maybe not though.

oh and arent the slick pads silicone as well? my question remains about evaping ethenol out of silicone. i know its probably ok, but i would like to hear conclusive info from the MFR about this.

Yeah, that would be a problem for you then. I never cover my dish, I just evap in the bathroom which is sanitary and don't allow anyone in while doing so.

Although, I will say. You could probably just lay your screen over it and accomplish 90$ of what you are trying to do, but it would not be perfect.

I don't want to start a hate thread I simply want to warn you that most solvents evaporate and sink, not float in our atmospheric pressure, so leaving it in the bathroom with the fan on that's on the ceiling isn't really doing much, most likely the vapors are passing out through the bottom of the door, and hopefully dispersing elsewhere, rather then pooling somewhere else. Just a warning from one fellow concentrate maker to another, be carefull out there, everyone.

Oh yeah man. I blast and purge most of it on my back porch before I winterize and do my final evap in the bathroom. Not a lot of liquid or fumes by then.

@2clicker , I like the silpats because I can form them into anything. I had a small amount of cleanup from a previous run that needed evap. So I just formed it to a little dish and evaped away. As below.

I use wooden clothes pins to secure the mat to the pan and to ensure no sudden unwanted movements of the mat while evaping.
