Discontinued MistVape Touch

Volute of Vapor
For what it's worth, there's not a single vape in my signature where packing the load was not beneficial.

For conduction vapes it's obvious and easily explainable (less air between plant bits = more conduction) For convection it's less intuitive but if you don't pack hot air will just take the path of least resistance and flow around the plant bits without having time to extract anything.

Of course if you pack too much you'll get other issues like tunneling etc... Just find the right balance, like with everything in life.
There is a bunch of convection vapes prefering a fluffy load cause the better the air move through the load the better it is heated (at least the more evenly). MiniVap is one of this vapes but the Touch could be used like that for more a tasty session than a cloudy session...works very well too for me.
Although I agree I prefer habitually a slightly tamped load for bigger clouds and shorter session.
Tunneling happens more with a loose load imo..., with dense packed load I get more hot spots and slightly worst taste.
Did I remenber there was a vape designed for herbs spinning while hitting for a true convection heating(maybe the one from Eerlectrics deigned for flowers)?

Well put, brother! :)

Everything in moderation!
Light to moderate (tamp/pack) is the way to go for me - depending on grind consistency (I rather just plug a tiny nug in and tamp it slightly against the screen). Just take a matching end of a pencil e.g. and tamp it down ever so slightly. Works great and keeps the load securely in place providing great heat transfer with the load.

Here is what the stem looks like, I just "sipped" the herb into the stem then brushed off the end. There is about 2-3 mm of empty stem
cg1cYTZ.jpg

Then I slipped a 3/8" diameter screen over the herb
ne7YQ7L.jpg

The screen fits snug but not tight, you can dislodge it with too much jostling. But with normal handling it is fine. After 3-4 hit you can easily remove the screen, just push down on an edge with a paper clip. Stir the stem and replace the screen. If I do this twice a stem lasts me a couple hours, three vaping sessions. Seems crazy efficient. Not sure where Alan got the 3/8" diameter screens but I'll find out and maybe get some out to people to see how others like this.
I gotta say I resisted trying this just because it seemed like a hassle but now that I've done it I'm sold. Super economical

Glad to see you are enjoying the two screen method. Great way to keep the heater screen clean.
I purchase 3/8" diameter ss screens which have a bit of a raised edge and then hammer them flat until they are about 10mm in diameter. This allows them to fit snugly into the 10mm hole. The hammering also provides a smoother surface which seems to help them stay clean longer. Just have to be careful not to make them too large in diameter. Here is a post when I first started making them. Get Hammered

I use this method on the Milaana, I got 10 mm SS screens from Amazon, guess that's a benefit of being in Europe. It really does help curb combustion with fresh batteries.

I use this method with the Milaana too, but using broken ELB's that I had laying around. I uploaded some pictures in the Milaana thread:

@mistvaporizer congrats on getting promoted off the up and coming thread... your real deal now bro! I enjoyed chatting with you and have an idea for collaborating with you on a simple voltage regulation design that will startcin the fall.

Working with @Alan has been a refreshing experience and think all FC vapor makers should work together to Fuck Combustion! There is strength in numbers and economy of scale can help us little guys compete with the big box stores.

@b0 what is elb?
Just got word that my order of stems is in town. Should be here soon, no more cutting stems for me :D:D
Here is some abv that I did with the cover screen, it was vaped, stirred, vaped, stirred a second time and vaped some more. Really efficient extraction. The cover screen helps to prevent combustion and I see less charring. This load doesn't seem to have any char.
7wOZDim.jpg

I have a new gadget coming that should help to make cup screens so I hope to be able to send some of these around soon.
@b0 I like those. The gadget I mentioned is an arbor press which I will modify into a cup screen press. Currently I have some metal fixtures that allow me to make the screens by hand but it is too hard. My hope is the press will make that an easy task.

ELB are EZ Load Bowls I think, not sure about the name but it's these gaskets that the vapexhale uses:

I use the bottom of 2 broken ones I had laying around as screens and it works amazingly well. Nothing falls on the heater and vapes pretty even too.

I can confirm that there is a learning curve with the Touch. I need to learn to avoid dropping the stem on tile floors. I now have two glass stems remaining, and I'm thinking I may need a wood stem soon.

On another note, you may recall my posts about having used fine-ground, dry weed, when first trying the Touch. Since then, I've tried a rougher grind of moister herb, and found it doesn't work as well. So, I ground some, still moist (62% humidity) with a coffee grinder. I think that, for me, this may be the way to go. I'm only a couple of stems in with this, but I've gotten more visible vapor, faster, and more consistently.

@mistvaporizer, you're getting me interested in the added screen. I'm not fond of stirring, but it looks like there's enough gained to make it worthwhile, particularly since I am getting a little charring at times. Currently, I'm minimizing it by loosely filling the stem to level with the lip, then tamping it to a concave shape (charring occurs near the center, so I'm moving the center further from the heat source). This seems to help somewhat, but I need to try the screen.

@V-apE don't do it. The original idea was that the coil would be user replaceable but two users have tried to open the Touch and both broke it. So at this point it is factory service only on coil replacement. I'm looking for other coil holders and if I find something that is more user friendly I may go with it down the road.
The problem is that in order to remove the coil you need to take apart the entire unit. Early builds were much harder to do than the lastest versions but still I don't recommend it. Also the stacked pancake coil is really a great one so not sure if you want to mess with it. If you are dead set on taking it apart remember that voids all warranties and send me an email at info@mistvaporizer.com and we can talk.

The EZ Bowl Loads fit inside 18mm male glass nice and snug.
Do/will they work in 14mm without deforming it?

Ideally the rim of the screens sit on top of the 14mm male joint and using 2 will sandwich the material.

No it doesn't work, in the original post with the pictures I say that I use it on the Milaana:

Since those pictures the only change I made was inverting the screen:

Now I can put the charge as close to the heater as I want.

Gonna try @Alan idea in my touch when it arrives, I really like how this performs in the Mi

Ok so i haven't been very active on this thread but that seems to happen with all of the threads for the vapes i love the most.

When i got an opportunity to buy one of the early beta touches i was stoked. the price seemed very low for a device with pure convection and on demand heating, a portable, with a user changeable battery and all in a beautiful wooden form? sounds too good to be true right? the answer is i guess not.. the touch has exceeded all of my expectations and more.

As soon as I got mine i knew i had to have a backup so i signed up for another. In that time period i was able to do some testing with the original unit and so did other early adopters. @Vape Dr. was the first to suggest a different style battery door for example and over the past couple of months all of the suggestions that we all made have come into the touch.

After seeing the new design, i just couldn't wait for my new unit and today i was not disappointed when it came. This vape is so beautiful!!!! i cant believe that you can get the touch for $120 when we all know the prices of other vapes, and most of those other vapes, im actually going to dare to say almost all of them do not look as good as the touch, or perform as well! my new touch performs better than my beta, and it looks amazing. I am very medicated so i will be back to report on usage but so far its been a dream. Here is some vape porn for your enjoyment. ;)

@Oogendoogan nice post. Thanks for the pics.

Is that an indica box i see there in the background? Even though the vape is long gone, i still use the accessories.

The box is awesome for stashing all my stems, screens small grinder etc and cannister for fresh and abv. The vape pic lives on my keyring, and the spacers fit in the adventurer oven. Shame the indica itself didn't last the course.

Sorry for the off topic, folks. I just couldn't help myself.

Hey bro! Great post, thanks for the stunning pics!
All I can say is there's nothin to add. I did the very same. Signed up for a second one, the new model. $120 is a steal, I hope Dave raises the bar here. He deserves it and the product is fantastic (love my Milaana when going 18mm, this one helps me microdosing even more, so lately this one exclusively in use). @mistvaporizer goes above and beyond, a great guy. Good karma all around. Thanks for everything!!!

Will post pics of my new stems soon! Wood and glass to come... Loving it.

Lol yep I'm happy that someone else knows and appreciates how awesome the indica accessories are! Like the box is amazing, I use it to hold my stems, for my Milaana, mist vapes and logs, also my Elbs and nails for my evo, there are a couple other odds and ends in there.

The spacers look like they could come in handy for a different vape, cool to hear you found a way to use them with the adventurer. Do you still have your indica wire brush!? That's gotta be the best part lol. I clean EVERYTHING with that brush and it keeps stuff like new. I am on my first 2 vapexhale ELbs after about a year now.. that wire brush will clean any nail, it's also awesome for keeping stems clean, anything really it literally makes abv particles and oil like disappear lol.

I still have my indica as a trusty backup session vape. You can't beat how stealthy that thing is sometimes. Just wanna give a huge shout out to @Vape Dr. For gifting me my indica with the box and everything else! I use that shit every day lol. I gotta say that my new touch may deserve a better box.. I have been eyeing Burl Veneer sheets to put on it but then I think I should just get another box lol. A quilted maple box to match my touch would be pretty awesome. @mistvaporizer if you end up making any boxes hit me up!! I will totally buy one lol. I'm not gonna hold my breath on that one with all of the touch orders you gotta fill but I can be hopeful. I just wannna say thanks again for the beautiful unit. It really is amazing.

This Unit performs great and it makes my whole collection look better, or worse.. haha idk maybe it kinda outshines the rest of my wooden vapes. @vapen00b i am glad to see you enjoy your touch so much that your getting a second as well. I feel like this vape is a perfect companion to the Milaana and elevape. The Milaana can fit my 18mm and water needs, touch for microdosing, over all taste and effect, also I can use the touch dry with my asthma which is a problem with my milaana. The ESV is just flavor heaven and pure convenience. I think that the Touch is probably my favorite out of all of them simply because of how beautiful it is and the price. It's a good day to be into on demand convection vaporizers lol.

@Oogendoogan that second gen unit you have is beautiful mate!

Today I just got mine:

orFn4tA.jpg

I will take better pictures of her tomorrow. Today I arrived home after work and a couple beers with my colleagues around 1:30 and have been testing her, here is a picture of my first bowl:

6ylDqrZ.jpg

I think that for a convection vaporizer that's a pretty even extraction, I was just flavour chasing with a few really light but flavourful hits and a couple more cloudy ones to finish. Totally love how this unit performs

Edit: Forgot to add that this "first" bowl is the first one with this unit but I already had a V1 before so I had some experience with the vape. In this vapes there's always a small learning fase. The good thing is that with this units Dave also sends some really helpfull instructions.

I also have a Milaana and this technique shared in that post works really well whit this vape too:

Whoever it was that posted about "letting the vapor fall from the stem into your mouth" actually really helped with my technique. Really appreciate the spreading of knowledge. You can never know too much.

You don't need to pulse so much and still gets amazing extraction! Saving battery :)

@b0 I think you might have meant convection, but it is an understandable mistake being that you were using the MVT.

Thanks, you totally right my friend! I don't even know how many times I needed to edit the post, but the funny thing is that I didn't saw that mistake until I read your post

Yeah guys, the Touch it's an amazing vape and 120$ it's a steal for the quality!

Edit: Just for the fun, this short post needed 1 edit too :freak:
