Log Vapes Versus The Shiny Stuff?

Shit, I'm gonna go broke hanging out on FC.

Just FYI - I've reviewed the forums, watched the videos and looked at the pictures. I've always been turned off by the logs because of the long heat up time and lack of a temperature control. How does the quality of vape from the well known log vapes (RockZap, Underdog, HI & Purple Days) compare to the "higher end" non log vapes? All I'm concerned with is a nice thick vapor and the ability to hit it through my bubbler (which I know can be done). The videos of the vapor quality of the logs - seemed to me - to look a bit on the light side. Why do so many of you vape enthusiasts love the logs?

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I was skeptical at first myself, and wondered the same thing. The heat up time is off-set by running 24/7. They are definitely discrete enough to be out in the open. I think the HI has a quick cold-to-warm time (5-10 mins?). For temp control, a VV power supply seems to be the newest edition to logs.

This thread has some responses in line with what you are looking for.

Honestly, for me the #1 reason I keep coming back to my log vapes is efficiency.

Most vaporizers can get equivalent vapor out of, say a hypothetical gram, but nothing encourages efficient use like a vaporizer with a small load size, but produces consistent concentrated vapor.

Ultimately, I would say I only need one of each
1. log vape
2. portable
3. variable heated heavy-hitter

That being said,
variety is the spice of life :)

Light vapor isn't necessarily a bad thing. It doesn't take me all that long to brown a trench in my MFLB and all the hits look super light.

Now obviously portable vs. stationary is a big difference, but I always wince a bit when I see my friends breath out a 'smoky' vapor cloud from pulling too slow on their DBV...

Personally, I'd rather have efficiency and light rips with good water filtration. My lungs and wallet will thank me, and my tolerance will stay low ;) One reason I'm looking into getting an UD. :)

My 2cents.

Actually, my UD is both nr. 1 and 3 on your list (with the help of a variable PSU I must add). I could even buy a big battery and make it nr. 2 too if I wanted to.

I get very dense vapor from my little log, it really is an amazing little cloud machine. It matches my SSV and Vapocane in cloud-density easily so no wispy thin hits here, not sure where you guys are getting that from

I believe the new insulated UD cores heat up about as quick as the HI btw, but I haven't had a chance to verify this myself (yet).

Good choice

When I first came here to FC to do the research on my first vape I ended up choosing the SSV eventually, but I had already decided I would once own a log too. In hindsight I should've just skipped straight through to that one. I still can't imagine ever needing another vape besides my little log now. Well, perhaps a portable log one day, when we figure out how to make efficient and small enough fuel cells that could just fit in the bottom or something

The only problem I have now is that I want to try out all the different log vapes, lol

Luckily some won't ship to Europe, my wish-list is already way to long as it is :)

only vape that's not a log I ever used is the VG, but I really love the principles of logs.
except the warm-up time when you plug it in, it's always ready. wich perfectly compliments my vaping style, since I will begin vaping at one point in the day(sometimes afternoon right after getting home, sometimes evening/night, in the weekend it can be right after waking up), and after I start I will keep vaping now and then to keep the high going. and with a log that's warmed up, you can decide to vape spme any moment you want, with no wait.

also I like vaping a little each time, usually I don't even finish a stem in one go. especially it's a longerlasting stem, like hash or strains that keep on giving vapor for longer as usual(like the amnesia haze I'm vaping right now)
and I like the taste, but if I load a vape that loads more, my VG for example, I get the taste first but when the taste is gone, it still tajes a while before I can load a new one, and in the case of the VG I can only get the taste a few times a day at most(if I load little)
with my UD and PD I load little, so is finished quicker and each time Ican get load fresh weed again and get delicious fresh taste again.

I see it as kind of a combination between a joint and onehitter as combustionequivalent. you get the relaxed slow sipping of a joint, also the stems have kind of the feel of a joint, and can hold it n your hand a while like a joint.
but you get the small load, conservation and versatility(easy to lay away since it isn't burning away) of a onehitter

and last, but not least, logvapes look really nice.

Keeper, I don't know if you saw my response here in another thread where someone was interested in a log vape. The link that Magic9 gave you will give you some info, but is outdated. One of the log vapes in this thread isn't available anymore and the MZ has changed significantly. In addition, there are several new log vapes on the market now. You really need to look at the current posts in the log vape threads (CRZ. TT. HI. UD) to get an idea of what is happening now.

Edit to add: I'm sorry.... I thought the link was to the old "Log Vape Roundup" thread. The thread Magic9 linked to is okay.

whoo! go logs!

personally speaking, my UD Bamboo twig can heat up and produce vapor clouds in 15minutes max. also, im not sure which videos you're watching but these log vapor hits aren't light IMO. i could literally make my desk area appear foggy because the vapor clouds are so thick.

Every night, I take out my log. I plug it in to warm it up. After it gets good and toasty, I'll take that stem and suck up the good stuff. After that, I put that stem in my mouth and suck............REALLY SLOW. Once I feel that tickle on my tongue and the back of my throat, I stop sucking and just savor the incredible taste and let the feeling cuddle my mind like a cozy down comforter.

And THIS is the reason I don't like the term LOG. Why? 'Cause it makes me sound either gay or super flexible, both of which I am definitely not.

In reality, I am just infatuated with my......................log. :/

Logs are nice for their efficiency especially, and ability to always be "ready to go." I would say that they tend to not be the best for heavy hitters, but with the addition of newer logs such as HI and UD, these are definitely contenders for heavy hitting!

Check out iloveb00bs' videos in the HI thread. The HI goes well beyond "contender" status when it comes to thick, milky, heavy hits that will fog up your bong very quickly. No need to pull slowly (in fact, if you do, you might combust).

The PD was wispy. My smoker friends would come over and feel like they couldn't get a hit off the PD (I could get decent hits, but it required technique and a long draw). These same friends get obliterated by the HI in a very short period of time, and would have already ordered their units if not for the cost of entry into vaping.

You can't just "order" one. I've been on the list for a few months at least.

No, you can certainly "order" one. Saying otherwise implies that Alan isn't taking orders. There is a waitlist, yes, but what other term would better describe the process of sending the maker an email and telling him you want one?

I have to throw in, my Zap is a beast. It produces more vapor than I can take in in a single hit and even the second hit is more than I take all at once. After those two, it thins out. I have zero respiratory problems (I hope) and good lung capacity (I think), and I've never wished for a heavier hitter. The few times I used the PD, I'd run out of air from inhaling before my lungs would fill with vapor. I'd get some decent hits from it, but not the type of visible exhales that linger for a minute or two like with the zap.
(Is it just me, or do vapor clouds seem to "move less" than smoke clouds? Like it's heavier and moves slower.)

I'm going to go out on a limb (completely unintentional), and say you can't go wrong with any of them. They are all doing great things with these "wood/stick/lumber vapes" (that sounds just as bad Lwien) and all have great track records with customer service. Not only will it eventually pay for itself, but you can always sell it, if it's not for you.

Being able to order one means you can slap down the money and actually get one. There are plenty of really good vapes out there that are in stock and obtainable. I'm not bitching or anything, I don't mind waiting because I have other vapes, but if someone doesn't have a vape and needs one I wouldn't consider something like the HI or the Cloud to even be an option.

Semantics aside, that's a good point. And I certainly wasn't trying to steer the OP away from a UD or CRZ, it's just that the HI is the one I have personal experience with. However, the OP isn't in a vape-less situation, he already has a Solo and an MFLB.

Nor would I try to steer him away from the getting on the HI list, but the wait should be considered if he's picking one out.

For me, the log vape is a personal favorite for many reasons. It's warm in my hands, it's efficient in the amount of herb it uses, gives good hits, and can be used with a water tool. Each of the makers of these vapes have a big following and for good reason. They give a good product and great customer service.

There's also something about the log vape that makes you "bond" with it. I can't really explain it. Part of it is the process of applying the wax. You find yourself getting into the grain patterns and loving how they show with that new coat of polish.

It may mean that to you, but that's taking delivery, not ordering. To say you can't order a product that there's a waiting list or back order for isn't accurate.

It's easy to confuse vapor volume and vapor density, and you usually get one or the other. The small bowl and narrow airway of the log vape design are great for dense hits, and not so good for big ones. But then that's where attaching a bong comes in. :science:

Bingo.

Personally, I like to take the first two hits from a fresh stem through a bong and the last 3 hits directly from the stem. On the 4th hit, I'll empty out the stem, crumble between fingers and reload for the last hit. Kinda my ritual now.

I found one made with a wood that I like which happened to be available. I'm looking forward to posting my first videos on FC after getting accustomed to it. Shit, I now have to add a vaporizer category in my household budget.
