Never even heard of that one @deadheadbill. Definitely going to check that one out sometime!

@Marihuana Couldn't even figure out the tutorial boss, I get him down to his last little health, then he just starts spamming bullets and waves and you can't shoot enough to get to his shield and can't attack him. Might have to boot it back up. How do I beat that dude?

@seaofgreens, Certain bullets can be broken with your own, and sometimes the only ways to get around some other projectiles are to use your dash or move very carefully. Some bosses have phases where you have no choice but to stay mobile and dodge until the boss becomes vulnerable again. Also, try to be conscious of the (rather short) periods of time after the bosses finish an attack before they're on guard. Sometimes a charged sword attack is better than just mashing for a quick combo because once stunned by it, you open up the boss up to a critical strike which will take away a little less than half of their current health bar. Very useful punishment tool during the "melee duel" phases of their health bars, especially after dodging the radial attacks highlighted in red.

FYI follow up to my previous post. GoG comes with the mandatory unofficial patch. I also would wait on a sale as this game is from 2004. Actually, I don't normally pirate games but since this one is so old, had to be patched by the community and the developer is no longer even in business, so my conscience would be clear pirating it.

Also, a bit of trivia. The team that created this game was the same team at Interplay who created the original Fallout.

Ok, so I'm getting my first tinges of burn-out on FFXIV. Created an alt after I got my character to 50 just to get that excited feeling of gearing up again. I know for many, end-game is where it's at but for me, it's all about the journey. Horizon, Zero Dawn is next on my list but my burn-out has to increase a bit.

You won't regret HZD really really great game.

Horizon Zero Dawn, Nier Automata and Resident Evil 7 top my 2017 list so far. If you are into the Dark Souls/Bloodeborne then I would also recommend Nioh. Although Nioh is also a great online coop game.

Well, I got sick of Mass Effect Andromeda.. The combat is really fun, played a ton of online.. but the quests are a prime example of lazy AAA padding bullshit and often have little to no reward. Driving the car thing was fine but they made very little attempt to add anything to the fetchy nature of the objectives, so they quickly became tedious. It got to the point where I'd get to a new planet and dread getting the same task of driving to 5 locations across the map to scan some rock or satellite.. Sometimes your character even has the same dialogue line!

They have a quest where you have to pick up a bunch of memory triggers.. think BOTW, except instead of a puzzle to solve and a rewarding scene you just have a marker on your map you need to walk to. Every time you get it your character says "Another memory trigger SAM?" in the exact same way, then you have to travel to a certain planet if you want watch the clips! It's such bs. Fun combat, great environments, good music and sound effects; AAA wank story/quests/characters. Definitely would wait for a sale if you're not a die hard Mass Effect fan like me.

Been playing the new Bethesda game Prey recently; what a breath of fresh air coming from mass effect! This is how AAA games by big studios should be. Ran fine on my PC on high settings, no weird bethesda glitches or broken quests (yet); it did crash to desktop twice but it doesn't have any performance issues on my system so far.

The game plays like Bethesda took their hand at making their own Bioshock game, in space! If you were a fan of the Bioshock series you'll love this game. Excellent story, open progression with choices that actually matter!!, some quests but not a ridiculous amount like Skyrim, fantastic sound and level design.. It's all around a great game that you can tell some real effort went into.

My favourite thing about it (without spoilers anyway) is they really streamlined how you open containers or interact with terminals/screens, very seemless. The screens are all big enough that your character just needs to walk up to them, there's no sit down transition or screen loading. The loot inventory just opens if you look at a box and with 1 button you collect it; just perfect. It's surprising how much little things like that can reduce tedium in games.

Edit:
I also have my eye on FFXIV's new update. Haven't played in a few years but I'm feeling the MMO itch..

Leveling is kind of weird. I'm at 53 and still doing lvl 50 quests of which I am totally overgeared for. But yeah, I'm an old MMO'r from when WoW first went online. That game ate my life for a few years. For me FFXIV is nowhere near as addictive.

But playing FFXIV on a PS4 is kinda nice. They ported that game to a console really well.

XI is still my favorite mmo but only one I played extensively. The endgame combat is really fun and I do things with just 2-4 other people and most of us play multiple accounts. Pretty fun and gets really hectic but I still find it enjoyable and the graphics/etc don't particularly bother me even though it's an ancient game at this point.

I did get banned and sold my other character so I only have 1 account now and it doesn't have any awesome stuff like my old accounts :'(

I avoided ME:A for all the reasons you mentioned. Was on the fence about Prey after the demo left me lukewarm. But all the info I have seen about it lately seems to indicate it is my kind of game. Probably grab it over the weekend.

The game I'm playing now (Temple of Elemental Evil with the Circle of 8 and Temple + modpacks)
..was also by Trokia/Tim Cain

Interestingly enough, it's kinda the polar opposite of Vampire, in that the great tactical turn based combat and implementation of the D&D 3.5 ruleset is the main draw here, not so much the narrative and characters. (both have really good atmosphere though)

And yea, Trokia/Black Isle were some really awesome RPG developers. Probably having to due with a lot of those key guys coming from pen & paper backgrounds too.

They are removing that one from sale also so maybe last time to get it for who knows how long.

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised by the new Doom. It did come out over a year ago though.

Alan wake was good but they needed to make a second to finnish the damm ending which being high is confusing a bit! I still have not bought Doom though it is normally two years until i play a traditional release that demanding. I get around 70 out of 120fps needed at 4K so by the time i am ready it will be even cheaper. Probably Doom GOTY edition i think i am smart doing it this way because they are quite short.

A few notable others are Vanquish and Bayoneetta just came to PC alongside Bulletstorm Full Clip edition. Those are pretty short but old games also i need to play soon. Ideally on 1080SLI but a second vape is priority before a second 1080 lol.
