I just listened to Tubular Bells again after too many years. It is such a tremendous high. I need to do that more often! Probably 7-8 years for me. I love the side 2 more. The music is incredible.
I love having this on my ipod now!

Just reading the words "tubular bells" the ramping intro starts playing in my head

Had a music appreciation class when I was a sophomore in college and had to choose a piece to write an essay on. Choosing wasn't hard at all... tubular bells! Definitely got a 100%

I don't have that much music like that, 1st because of my age(18), but second, and maybe most important, I'm very limited in my musical listening. a few years back I sttled on some bands I like, and from there on I didn't see any need anymore to look for new bands, new albums etc, I haven't connected my ipod to a computer in over a year(maybe 2).

I don't by it however I have 20 gigs of jazz from 1900-1940. I still haven't listed to all of it yet. That would take up a box set of cd's I couldn't take along with me.

I buy all kinds of music when I can afford to, although i guess I don't listen to so much "old" stuff otehr than experimental jazz and the weirder proggy stuff.
Towards the end of last year I heard Tubular Bells for the first time in years, a live version from 1973 with Fred Frith and others. It gave me really strange dreams...

Kian,
I've bought The Cults "Sonic Temple" at least a half dozen times. Every time I throw a party someone steals the cd. (Full disclosure, most of my friends are assholes). I may have also dinged one copy while demonstrating my Ninja Throwing Star technique. Not my fault though, being of Irish and German ancestry means the ancient ways of feudal Japan come naturally.:ninja:

a little over a year ago a friend introduced me to hi rez multi channel audio...and it has been one of the most enjoyable things i've ever gotten into! since then i've been buying a LOT of older classic stuff i used to listen to in the 60s/70s...hearing these great albums especially in a new way..surround sound..has been an incredible trip! most recently got steve miller fly like an eagle and had forgotten just how great it was. the doors..jethro tull..pink floyd..yes..elp..robin trower..dio..led zeppelin..steely dan..allman bros..csny..grateful dead..uriah heep..humble pie..wishbone ash..blind faith..the band..van morrison.....and many others i hadn't heard (much of) in 30ish years...soooo much great music from back in the day got pushed aside as i was busy discovering new stuff... but this past year has been just mind blowing going back and rediscovering music from my younger days!

My face is melting...
I'll stream it, but probably wouldn't buy. Amazon Prime and youtube.

Actually I find that a lot of the music I thought was great as a youngster really isn't that awesome as a 47 YO. Back in the day, you had to listen to the radio, and that meant listening to a lot of crap between the nuggets of goodness and you were at the mercy of a playlist.

Music maybe isn't better these days..there's just much more access.

Though that Led Zeppelin CD I listened to the other day was amazing after not hearing it in years.

I will hear a little gem on the radio that I didn't like when I was younger, or I'd forgotten about. I will then buy it off iTunes. Just downloaded some Beattles music.

I don't buy much music these days unless it's a new album from someone I already listen to. But then, my collection has always included stuff that was "before my time," ranging from the classic rock my parents brought me up with to the swing and big band my nana listened to. A lot of that is the sort that you won't see new releases of unless it's remastered.

I do like to go back and build playlists of stuff I haven't listened to in ages, but some of this stuff has been moved from hard drive to hard drive since 1998 when I got my first computer, so I've got a lot to choose from.
