You do not have to connect anything.you place the thin metal sleeve in place, and slide the HC down. if it is loose , take the sleeeve off, and gently squeeze it this way and that slightly out of round here and theer. do this until the HC is snug. There is no other attaching needed.
I am looking now. Squeeze the top of the metal cylinder one way, and the bottom the other. ( BE GENTLE).. and this should make entire situation snug.
Take pictures if you can
Thanks for the quick response.

I'm not having trouble attaching the heater cover or any intermediate metal spacers to the metal cylinder that goes around the base of the heating element. I'm following the directions on 7th Floor's website and that bit is working fine. Where I'm having trouble is firmly connecting that metal cylinder to the thick aluminum plate at the base of the exposed part of the heating element. There's a circular hole around the heating element where this cylinder is supposed to fit snugly but where mine is fairly insecure. After lots of testing I'm fairly certain that this particular connection is responsible for the heater cover flopping around and bending the heating element whenever I've attempted to use it in the last few days.

Following your suggestion, here's a picture of my unit with the heater cover removed. The piece I'm having trouble with is the only one around the heating element.

Again, my questions were whether you guys think replacing the metal cylinder would help, and if so how to do that, and whether you think gluing it in place would work to steady things/what kind of glue to use.

IF you can be without it a week I recommend sending it to 7th Floor for repair. Email them at customercare@7thfloor.biz and let them work their magic!

I may not have explained well. The cylinder can be removed. then you can work it's shape a little bit, and get it just right.
If this doesn't work for you, the suggestion to contact 7th floor is sure a good one...
A reminder.. this weekend is the Las Vegas Vapefest, spo many of the vape manufacturers could be out of town!

...everything collects in the ash catcher, which I call my "hash catcher", so everything can be reclaimed. All the particulate matter, resin, etc. that usually ends up in your wand and whip is easily usable. I just use a glass rod and scrap out some every now and then for an extra punch. And you can also do a QWISO and easily get everything (i.e., nothing left in the whip tubing, etc.). No matter how much you try, I think the best way to clean a whip tube is to get a new one. I've tried the string/nail pull-through move, etc. but threre is always an odor and its eventually going to influence the taste and possibly effects. And the key for my set up is that almost nothing is wasted. Reduce, reuse, recycle!

Can I still do this if I don't have a warranty? I bought the unit used and from the information on the back of the instructions pamphlet it seems like the limited 3-year warranty doesn't cover me.

Would 7th Floor potentially fix it for a fee? Anything that's less than the price of a new unit looks appealing at this point, if I can't just glue the metal cylinder into place.

7th Floor will repair ANY unit ... even if run over by a TANK.... for $25.

edit;
You will have to ship it one way, They will pay to ship it back!

I am sure they will fix it for a reasonable fee. Sounds like it could just be the suport that holds the heater in place.

yea the tubing can't be cleaned. I usually just replace it with some plumbing tubing I got from Menards. I just cut it to the length I want. I save my old tubes to run through ISO when I am ready to do a wash.

The tubing can be cleaned.
It may remain discolored on the end nearest the DBV... but the tube you see here is dead clean.
I wash it out with dish soap and hot water.. and rinse well, with a cool rinse after, and dry it with a shopvac.
I have used the tube in this picture all day every day for a bit over 2 years.
I clean my wand with Iso and dish soap and water every few days also (I do save the Iso rinse form the glass)
I do have a second wand/whip I use, for company.. it is a year old, and it also is yellowed a bit but still supple and smells fine!

You can run Iso or everclear though them for a wash first, but I don't do that very often, as I wash the tubes regularly!
(I am on my original screen on that wand also!)

interesting, not viable for me (SSV is my daily driver, and not GONG)... but I really like where you're going with that

I tried this with some pliers and the heater cover seems sturdily in place--for the moment. Thanks for clarifying your point there, it could turn out to be a money-saver for me.

We'll see how this holds up over the next few days. If it doesn't, I'll be back here again.

Email first to set up a RMA. They will refuse any packages that do not use their label. They will make you pay shipping both ways up front and email you a shipping label to print. (cost me $27 but worth it to get back to 7th Heaven)

Thanks turtles!

not GONG, understood. I have a 45degree 18mm female-female that I use with my SSV because of the down angle on the hands-free setup. Also, I connect a LSV transfer wand to the (h)ash catcher so there is no tubing at all. Glass from HC to mouth on any 7th Floor unit I own all the time. I just have one in different rooms (and others homes) and then I just take my (h)ash catcher with me and never lose any of that precious golden wand hash :-)

yea I have noticed that if you run ISO through the tubes you can never get that taste/smell of the alcohol out of them. That is why I just replace rather than clean.

I use Hot water and Dish Soap (I like Dawn). After a hot water rinse, I follow with a long cold water rinse.
The tube in that picture is pretty clean and supple for a 2 year old tube.
I encourage fully the buying of new tubes.. it helps the Vaporizer industry grow and thrive!! :)
I was just saying that tubes can be cleaned and used forever... to help and encourage folks out there with limited funds to get on the train and VAPE!

My DBV arrives Wednesday and I cant wait, if vito likes it I am sure its gonna rock! Any input on the vapor-tamer? Theres a small discussion here on FC but its old and hasn't been touched. Or did I just answer my own question? :/

mvapes, I love my Vapor Tamer. It's way easier than messing with a bong and it's a real nice way to start the day with Da Buddha. Vapor Tamer DBV hits and coffee... mmmmm

The Vapor Tamer is perfect for the DBV, SSV, and the LSV.
I have the Fatty one, and it sure chills a hit!

I saw someone in the SSV thread bought an LSV heater cover and glass wand for his SSV. Will the LSV heater cover also fit on Da Buddha? I was originally going to try the SSV heater cover/whip with my Buddha, but GonG seems like a better option. I love my DBV, but the hits just aren't thick enough for my liking. Too much air, not enough vapor. So I'm looking to improve upon it now.

I've had the unit for a year or so, and so I am familiar with the ins-and-outs of breathing technique and temperature. I've done plenty of reading around FC. Maybe I'm still not using my DBV right, but I've noticed in my extensive use of a friend's Vapor Brothers, I get thicker and more consistent hits than with my Buddha. I would assume the larger tubing/wand with the DBV is the contributing factor? This is part of the reason I am attracted to the SSV setup because of its smaller air path combined with a presumably smaller bowl.

Input?

AMTA,

OhTheAgony

here for the chicks
I know there is a difference in length between the DBV and SSV heater-covers, but otherwise they should fit nicely on either vape so go for it.

No input on your other question unfortunately, but I'm sure someone else has some thoughts about that one.

I am going to venture a "yes" answer on that.
I loved my DBV dearly. I decided to get an SSV, and so I passed my DBV to an elderly woman (a patient with low funds).
I noticed a difference, and I attributed this to the HC's small orifice.
There are a few spots along the way where the size of openings "gear down'.. or "match impedance" (using terms from other sciences). Even the size of opening on the tip of the borasilicate mouthpiece affect this .. I noticed since acquiring extra mouthpieces!
I have all 3 setups for my SSV now.. Spherical... GonG.. and hand held.
I get the heaviest hits using the Standard HC every time.

Thanks for the assurance you two. I will have to have 7th Floor adjust the length of the SSV HC to fit my Buddha, but this shouldn't be a problem judging by the posts earlier in this thread. It's good to know that my initial theories on vapor density and air path are sound. It makes me excited to take my Buddha to the next level, especially with some assurance from other people that it will work as expected.
