Update :
I think a new custom Ti stems era has begun .
Constantly in Motion .
Evolution .

So ,I think that the era of bare & slim custom Ti stem tubes will slowly fade away.
As the non-mouthpiece stems one did .
I think you understand what I mean .

Those epoxy composite stems are amazing in quite a few ways .

Cheers.

I just could not wait for 24 hours, for the resin to fully harden .
Anyway ,a test stem it is .
Stll,I maganed to machine it lightly ,even though the resin was still showing some elasticity .

So,here's the -still unfinished - " Dendrobates auratus " stem

Are you going to shape the stem more? I love the colors a lot, it's kind of twisty texture to it, very interesting. I can see a lot of potential here for this medium in your artistic hands

I think you should revisit the whole chapter .

;)

Yes ,i can see a lot of potentional also.
Lots of materials can make a composite with epoxy resin .
And many techniques can be applied .

Still,me is only at beginner level .

Here are the very first two Composite coated Ti stems, side by side.
The " off white " one is freshly made ,still to be shaped .
The Black'n'green one ( the very first ,a mere lab rat ) was sanded and not
mechanically polished .Since the epoxy forms a composite with mica ,mechanically polishing
the stem will not result a lustrous surface ,but a rather silky one
(which BTW feels really awesome in the hand, but the metallic effect of mica is not that pronounced ).
Instead ,a new layer of plain transparent epoxy was added and the stem is left for the epoxy to fully cure.

The off-white one ,needs further shaping ,but not before tomorrow this time.

Under UV illumination the GITD pigment particles start showing .

Glowing after the UV excitation .

That is slamming! So hot it glows. The first stem is looking real good, and I think a satin finish might be a nice option. I used to have a bass guitar with a satin finish neck, and it was wonderful to the touch. But wow it's pretty stunning!

@stardustsailor , is there no chance that heat transfer will damage the resin ?? I really love me the shine that the finished product has . Side note , I’m glad someone else out there appreciates the Sound Defects . His music is great to zone out to and those funky drums are the shit !!!

Nope ! No chance .
This resin i'm using ( Pattex Power epoxy Clear 5' )** can withstand temperatures up to 150°C
according to the manufacturer. And it gets really hard when cured.
Sound Defects are just awesome with a Vapcap ..Or two !

Updates on the new stem ( " Aurora Borealis " it's name ):

Varnished with a tad of "Blue Moon " mica ,just to enhance that "frozen " look !

** In the US it is sold as :

After machining the different layers of Aqua and Green GITD pigments show more clearly.

Cheers.

And this is how the Aurora Borealis would look as a Vapcap device .
This stem is going to be offered at Classifieds once it's finished (with a hammered mp ).
According to my price list* this should cost 100 € ,but since it's the second composite coated Ti stem
that I'm making the price is going to be lower .

* click "ouch " at my sig .

@stardustsailor It's amazing how strong the glow is off modern pigments.
I bought some, just trying to work thru implementing the idea.

Great watching your work evolve.

Yeap,the glow is unearthy .
When freshly excitated with a ordinary LED light ,the stem really GLOWS in a dark room.
I was not expecting that powerful glow ,to be honest.
And just imagine that the GITD pigments were mixed with mica pigment ,
which is supposed to reduce the glow of the GITD pigments (due to coverage ).

i'm sure you have seen those tables ...
Wood and GITD epoxy .
Just amazing combo.

This dude here kept it really simple .
But the result !

Now ,I can imagine some wooden -GITD composite stems !

The "epoxy "part is tricky .
;)

And the first Resin Composite Coated Titanium aka RCCT
( which is different than the " Titanium Lined Resin Composite " ;) )
stem tube is finished .
It has some minor "flaws" here and there ,but nevertheless it is just a lab rat !
It was not made to be sold.

Now all that is left is a mouthpiece to accompany that RCCT tube !
