Concentrates for Noobs - Q&A

The link explains it well, like we always say in chemistry, the poison is in the dosage ;-) I have read that there are individuals who are more or less sensitive to bad reactions from chlorophyll, as I'm sure we'd find with most things.

The link didn't really explain it well at all. Or maybe I didn't understand it.

"Chlorophyll poisoning occurs when someone swallows a large amount of this substance."
Large amount is pretty broad.

I just wanted your thoughts on the subject since you have a chem background and are knowledgeable about concentrates. I'll just assume that there is more chlorophyll in an average serving size of green veggies than there is in any amount of chlorophyll that I will ingest/inhale from concentrates.

Are you aware of any science regarding the inhalation of it? I couldn't find any.

*Edit for misspelling

You won't find science on the inhalation of gas from whatever happens to chlorophyll when it is put on a nail... yet - this is a really new question to answer and the scientific process is a slow, methodical one.

It would be a great avenue for a PhD student thesis though! ;)

The thing is that depending on the process of extraction, large portions of chlorophyll from masses of plant material can be concentrated into concentrates and then ingested. This will be likely to have a different effect on the digestive tract.

I would rather be safe than sorry with anything that may involve itself in that end of business lol

All my days in a daze...
I did a run of 23g of Blue Dream flowers today.

I didn't get quite the results I wanted, always shoot for shatter of course, but this run crumbled up on me on the vac. The thinner spread areas remained shatter, so it's a shatter/crumble mix... crumshat. :D

It's still super :drool::luv:

Oh, 18% return on first run with a surprsingly decent little 2nd run (in vac) after tube dump and repack.

Starting material:

I haven't had blue dream in while I enjoyed that strain!! I can only imagine how that crumshat is haha nice job.

What was ur purge tek? Too much heat may have made it crumble.

It's a great strain, best I've ever tried (but then again I don't live in a legal place) :)

I purge in a SS vac chamber on a silicone heating pad with temp setting on 50C which when I just did the conversion realize is over 120F. I think I will drop that to 40C (104F) in the future. Plus the analog dial temp control on my mat isn't exactly precise.

That sounds about right. I hate using heat n that's why I stick to QWET/QWKX and add zero heat but I do vac purge at room temp. IMO I don't think a room temp evap get rid of the solvent completely. I believe most try to keep the heat under 105f-110f I forget the Magic number. But either way nice job

Thanks, man. :)

I will definitely be using lower heat from now on.

Man I wish I had access to KX! That's all I'd use if I did.

Two runs yesterday. 13g of Sour Purple Diesel yielded 3.9.= ~30%. 7g of Sour D (different source) yielded 2.1=30%. Single runs each. End product after purge did a bit of the "crumbshat" for me as well. Really high humidity in my area so that could be it. Purge temp never went over 105.

Hey guys, been a while since I've posted. Still running but upgraded equipment. Recently got a welch oilless 2037b and a Cascade tv-02 oven.

What a fucking game changer!

I've been averaging 18 to 22,23%. Using a closed loop too ss tube as well but haven't gotten the return system yet. Switched from Capital to Puretane too.

Blue dream is notorious for auto-buddering. I've run that strain twice and it's happened both times- even under stable purge conditions.

Here's some lost tribe nug run I made last night- 18.6% return.

@canj00digit? - loose the silicone in the vac chamber. Silicone is pores and under vac it becomes a butane sponge. Google silicone vacuum purge and it should bring you right to skunk pharma research. Not that I'm going to share all my tek but parchment, glass, or slick paper.

As far as the chlorophyll, it's released either from overwashing or decarboxylated old weed. The only way to get it out it to rewash in a hexane solvent.

It shouldn't really do much more than potentially cause a sour stomach. It would only be dangerous in concentrated amounts.

I just dealt with a batch of stuff I ran for a friend. He forgot he had the stash and it was way to old. You can always tell it's decarboxylated as it will almost never shatter up, it will usually be dark and stay somewhat viscous. It'll also have a slight hint of pickles in the background.

This batch was starting to get there, see how it has a darker tint. I was able to get it to shatter but she took 11 hours at 107° with a 115° 20 minute finish.

I also only got 12% on it.

If I'm not mistaken it's a heating pad outside the chamber heating it up. Silicone is a no no for me all around.

Funny you should say that, as I've been looking to go to either PTFE sheet or dish.
I do read SkunkPharm but missed that info, will definitely look it up.

No, he's right (I was using silicone pad in chamber in addition to my heating pad being silicone). After I purge out almost all I can in water bath I then scrape that onto an oil slick pad and then into vac. I knew you couldn't blast onto it, but thought it was fine to use the way I was.

Since I was wanting to go PTFE for ease anyway this just gives me another reason.

You guys won't even store your fully purged oils in silicone containers?

Whoops... Maybe I should let u answer the question directed towards you lol my bad.

But yea try to avoid silicone coming in contact with anything except your final product imo. I do store mine in silicone containers.... that I lined with extra ptfe lol.

Also I would avoid the PTFE dishes imo. I bought two of them an the concentrate just dryed to it. I just added some KX/ET to rinse into a ptfe lined bowl.

I haven't used silicone for anything in a while.
You and me both brother!

I will echo what mvapes has said, please don't have silicone products coming into contact with anything but your final product! I exclusively use oil slicks for containers and mats, but these are only for fully purged final products and are never used in the process of making my medicine!

@canj00digit? sorry I didn't notice this or I would have pointed it out too! Good thing our mate @mvapes noticed this. Gotta keep our fc friends as healthy as possible :D

Also man that crumbshat looks plenty dabbable to me! mmmmmmmmmmmm

Getting some blue cheese soon to run :D Can't wait for a new flavor! Will share results in the share that dab stash thread :D

Thanks for the advice @mvapes, @NickDlow, and my ole buddy @herbivore21! :)
Duly noted and soon applied.

I'm thinking I might just go glass dish that will fit into my chamber.
I hate scraping glass, I really do, so I may change my mind and try PTFE paper.

But no more silicone in the chamber!
Glad to hear I don't have to stop storing end product in oil slick containers though.

herbivore21, man Blue Cheese sounds awesome, always so exciting to get a new strain. I'm sure you'll make some bad ass QWISO with it! :D

My pleasure :) Fitted glass dish is the way forward brother ;)

I actually find scraping therapeutic now funnily enough, it is like my yoga lol.

New strains are always a huge deal on this side of the pond aren't they, I'm super excited! Flowers are not quite to the standard of trich coverage I am used to with my THC bomb buds (which are head and shoulders above anything else around usually anyway) but are still decent, I expect a lower yield than my THC bomb runs but I also expect something that will still be delicious and heady! :)
