If God is the answer, then the question is wrong
yeah hermanos :(... take care of your Mi, I would not recommend storing it with the battery in it... in any way...

I left it unattended (but "safe" in a pouch, that's what I foolly thought) for 4-6 minutes :bang: just to greet my Madresanta (I was visiting) by the time I got back it was scorching hot (lightly burned myself as I hurried to take the battery out), charred, and smoking ... the hemp pouch got burned and so did the other pouch... incredibly the Mi heater's still working but has a nasty smoke odor (that really ruins the whole thing) and those charred marks (maybe I'll post some sad pictures)

well just to emphasize on the taking care of the button (it can be half pressed), put the paper, guitar pick, or take the battery out when storing even for a while... :shit: does happens ( and who knows what might have happend if I didn't get back that quickly) :ugh: and really wish that this does not happen to any other Mi's out there :tinfoil: sorry for the long post, still feeling pretty sad about my Mi...

saludos! :peace:

I think you are the second with a self burned unit.

Once it was called unregulated and UNPROTECTED single 18650. Unprotected was not too much IMO.

That being said what if at some point someone got really hurt by this kind of accident?

Is there a warning at least with last units sent out at this regard or one has to read here about it?

There are a few posts in this thread cant remember who said but there was at least one guy who just pushed his screen all the way through the stem to collect all the honey and bits then put the screen right up against the heater lean on the power and hit the shit out of it :science: got a couple/few fat tokes...

I like this idea three birds with one stone clean the stem clean the screen and get stoned all in under 5 mins

I did that today with my nano stem. Works great.

If you are not getting at least 15% combustion, you are doing it wrong!

(sorry that joke is getting old but it was hard not to pass it!)
Apparantly my punishment for dragging out that joke was getting 100% combustion on a stem last night. It was the last stem of the night with some kief on top and I just pushed it too far. Now that screen has a dark spot and the Milaana itself smells a bit like combustion with its screen a bit discoloured. The smell has gone away a slowly with a few stems run through it. Funny thing is, with an empty stem I get a bit of the bad taste. However, with a loaded stem without even heating it, there is no bad flavour.

The whole thing should have been predictable but for my own hubris. Thankfully, everything seems to be working great still and my lesson has been learned.

For those with Milaanas that don't have the new fancy screen in the air path, I have made my own. I first put down a bit of the ss mesh that came with the Milaana. Then I cut a bit of a fine ss filter that I had gotten to make concentrates a while back. Then I put a simple screen on top of that. It looks decent, and I doubt too much is getting through that.

Anybody got a good link for the OPUS 3100 v2.2? I need a 4 bay charger and was considering this over the d4.

Gearbest has them for about $34 .....and I've seen them on eBay & Amazon for about $44

Gearbest shows one with US plugs in stock (so you can place an order).....but don't actually have stock ......if you compare the shipping dates to Euro plug versions.

I wouldn't order from them until they show stock.....and even then the free default shipping is very slow 4-5 weeks.

Far easier to find a D4 or Soshine H4 or eFest LUC4.....but I do like the Opus more myself

I've reached out to rastabuddhatao to open a discussion. If they'll work with me, I'm game.

(Doubt it would hurt if they heard from others that I've reached out to them and giving them a little nudge.. )
Circling back on this so you know what's up...

Response received: "Although we appreciate your interest to work with us to make mods for the Milaana it currently isn't in our business plan to work on customized parts but rather focus on Milaana and Zion production."

Well, you really don't need RBTs cooperation for you to do accessories. I think you would have a good captive audience right here and in the Zion thread when that starts shipping again. I don't know how much tooling up you would have to do but I would think you might have enough customers to make it worthwhile and the US parts work fine with any other non us jointed parts folks might have so the accessories would be RBT compatible but not RBT specific. You might even contact the known RBT retailers too...

Just sayin...

Gents, while the vote of confidence is noted and appreciated, I would never try to create and/or release a mod that I was unable to model against the unit itself and test. Half the battle is watching how the pieces work together and being able to fine tune or push the envelope, tweaking things as you go... (and sometimes, unfortunately, receiving unexpected negative results, chucking a particular idea, and starting from scratch).

So, who's gonna step up and send me a unit?

So the Postie surprised me before work this morning with a not entirely unexpected box! (UK) Managed to charge a Battery while at work and have just had my first go with my Milaana!

Have followed the thread so there were no surprises, finish is as mentioned but nothing a bit of fine grade sanding won't put right, one of the 2 short stems I ordered doesn't seat quite right, I think it may be touching the female screen and I'm not sure about how high the female glass sits- I thought it was recessed but mine is on the top of the wood. I had the mesh rather than the new screen but have also made my own.

On the plus side the battery was a HG2 which I think is the latest model and size wise it's a perfect fit in the hand with the rounded edge... Then you fire her up!

HITS LIKE A CHAMP!

All in all I like it and the faults are easily sorted.

Does anyone think a little bit of Triihouse butter would do any harm? I can't help but think it would add a nice finish.

Congrats RBT, nice vape.

Actually I believe he is the only one this happened to, maybe one other. We have discussed here the risks involved in doing what was done (I often leave my battery in without issue, but not if I am packing it away like that). Once instructions are included, presumably hopefully with this first retail batch for PlanetVape, proper warnings will be included. It is actually quite easy to hurt yourself with many vapes even used properly, I'm sure it happens all the time... I don't recall it ever being named unprotected along with unregulated but personally I prefer the name Milaana...

Wellllll you could just get one for yourself that you probably would enjoy very much! ;) But I understand the need to test, though it should be fairly simple as we discussed even without a unit on hand. I wouldn't think making a few prototypes to be tested by members here (ala Ed & Ratchett) would be too much trouble, but you need to work the way you are comfortable with. If you can offer spare 19/22 stems and GonGs I'm sure you will get plenty of sales

Yeah I don't think any international orders will get the latest version, except maybe the last few sent out I suppose... But yeah Triihouse butter is fine, I've used it on my Zion before

If God is the answer, then the question is wrong
They are currently working on the safety instructions and will be sent with the future units ... they tested the unit so it would not catch fire too (good thing to know I think:tup:)

saludos! :peace:

Good to know! about the last part, didn't you report hemp bag and secondary bag get burned by the vape?
also what about CS side? what solutions did you receive?

Just out of curiosity, did you buy one of these yet?

Nope, I can't afford to deal with RBT CS and present quality of finition/assembly

I think I will get one from PIU or PV if it get better and they can afford to keep it on sale

or forget about it as I did with GH (even if MI has more appeal to me than GH)

I have had many, many stems already and I don't think I've been close to combustion once. I've gotten some loads very dark brown and thoroughly extracted without any charring (not even 10% combustion!). While I have been cognizant of the potential for combustion, I have yet to be concerned about it.
When I was first using mion I held the button for ~20 seconds! I just forgot because I was so baked from the first couple of hits, and it came close (pyrolysis) but not quite combustion

Word that's exactly why I need to move back to California. Finding good concentrates in pa can be hard lol. the wand hash I get from my SSV, though it doesn't taste good, really does kick my ass lol. I'm sure with the short stems on the Milaana it will be quite easy to collect :) thanks again!
If you rig a second screen in your wand, you will stop getting wand hash and get tasty resin instead

Also holding out for PIU. Wouldn't want to have to deal with RBT if warranty service was required.

Really hope to get this thing this week ;) the instruction manual is probably a good idea for people who aren't already vapor enthusiasts. I mean long before I ever heard of RBT or the milaana I knew that 18650 battery's could blow up on you lol. for me it's not a deterrent. Any box mod that uses 18650s can blow up on you if left in a car for example.. They should really at least include a warning explaining the dangers of unregulated 18650 battery's and on the warning they should basically just tell people to never store the battery in the unit. People who know better can use a guitar pick or a piece of paper and keep theirs in if they want, and people who don't know will hopefully be scared into not keeping the battery in the unit, solving the issue of burnt milaanas hopefully. The whole idea of this thing blowing up is just horrible lol. I just want to use it and look at it in aww when I am super vaked ;)
Cheers everyone, hope to send some pics of my new Mi later this week!
Peace.

I saw earlier in the thread these were shipping without prior confirmation/notice (i.e. just showing up at the door one day). haven't yet made it through the thread to more recent posts, but is this still the case?

I think all of the more recent orders have been getting notified, most early US and Intl pre orders were not though, part of the 420 launch. Now the store is only wholesale so moot for any prospective orders anyway, since they will have to buy from planetvape or other retailers

Forget all that... It will change everything for you by providing easy access to the full spectrum locked within your flowers, in a really user friendly device. Who care if it needs a little TLC so as long as it delivers like no other on THC?

Mid-February 2016 order.....Intl - Canadian order......no shipping notice but hopefully it will show up this week sometime. Toronto is very close to New York state so I can't see it taking that long for the actual delivery time....unless customs is playing with it.....which I can't tell since I have no tracking. Keeping my fingers crossed and hopefully I will see it before our coming long weekend

HA-HAAA!
My milaana is here in the UK too, and I've just put my first proper bowl through it this minute

As reported my many other folk, this thing is just FANTASTIC!
I was (very) slightly concerned about the manual nature of the Milaana, but Stickshift (as my unit shall henceforth be known) suits me just fine, down to the ground in fact.
The ramp-up when heating is very easy to regulate with the button.
In fact it seems as though it's going to be so easy that I no longer even have any worries re' operating the vape while TFT (totally f***king toasted), which I'm well on the way to being BTW.

To compare it to something which many people might have some familiarity with (box mod), it's a little like RBT has already identified the perfect wattage/voltage, and fine control is available to us through feathering the button.
Gross control (i.e. either end of the temp' spectrum) is still available too, as I started my first hit at a nice low temp, and managed to deliberately end up at the other end of the range 6 hits later without combusting.

Single bowl, short stem, dome screen, 80 per-cent fill, medium grind, no tamp, 6 hit, full extraction (as far as I can tell, I don't own a 'better' device to attempt further vaping of my ABV!)

Clouds and flavor are both excellent compared to my Inhalater05 (way better), and the open air path is a huge leap forward.

The 'on demand' nature of the device is VERY satisfying too, grip it and rip it sums it up nicely.

I'm delighted with my purchase, and even though I've run only a single bowl I'm confident that I'll remain so.
If things turn out otherwise I'll be back here to admit my error, rest assured.

Negatives at the price I paid are non-existent, even though there are imperfections.
Had I paid full retail I would be suggesting some changes, but I get the impression that these may be in hand anyway (and I wouldn't call them complaints as such, I'd still be happy with this exact unit at full retail).
The 'cons' as I see them are:

General fit and finish, I'd happily pay more for some small cosmetic refinement, but the hand-made feel is really quite appealing anyway, and the overall design is very pleasing.

Stems:
I like the system, the screens, and the wide open air-flow, but my long stem doesn't fit (it rests on the heater screen, and I daren't push down to try to make a seal.
My short screen fits, but the tip where it was cut is a little shonky (no biggie, it's smooth, no sharps), and the bowl/male joint has some very small cracks visible (difficult to photograph with my cell)

My female joint doesn't sit quite flat on the body of the unit and has a VERY slight 'leaning tower of pisa' effect with both stems.

I had to look fairly closely with my OCD eye to see these imperfections and again, I find these 'cons' quite acceptable at the price I paid, and only really report them so retail purchasers of the future can compare.

My wooden body is good, finish can easily be improved, but doesn't have to be if you're a 'no finish purist'.
Fit of the base is regular and even, with no glue visible, and no offset.

I'm TFT now, and this has taken some time to compose :zombie:, and I've started my second bowl

I keep saving up for the Zion but blowing my wad elsewhere :bang:
Now though, I'm thinking that I hope I've saved enough for the exotic wood retail MI when/if that emerges.

I'm gonna contact RBT re' the long stem and try to get one to fit so that I can flirt with combustion in comfort, wish me luck!

[ re-commences second bowl]

Clouds and flavor! this rocks
