@HellsWindStaff I know you asked for LOCAL essential oil sources, but the one I've used for 30 years now is No Common SCENTS (correcting spelling error) in Yellow Springs, OH. I USED to be local to them but haven't lived in the state for over 25 year now. They have a web presence and are a reliable source of quality oils.

My UnderPup has been working really well. However I have found that I have difficulty vaping enough at one time to deal with the pain. I seem to have this automatic cutoff switch that keeps me well this side of inebriation, which is great when we're talking about booze but perhaps a bit less than helpful when one is trying to medicate pain away, LOL!

This is the theory, anyway, after discussing this with friends. They believe I need to bypass my automatic hall monitor by taking a bigger hit, and the suggestion is that I need to start using the vape with a bong.

Since I just can't bring myself to light things on fire anymore, and this includes with a bong because it STILL tastes like the inside of an industrial smoke stack - and in fact if I've made a couple of draws through the water, if I switch to the vaporizer I STILL get that ashy taste until I dump the water and clean it out. They think that (decades ago when I smoked occasionally) I was just getting bigger hits than I do out of the vape stem.

To give you an idea, it took me a week of steady vaping to get through One Gram of Purple Haze.

So I went out and got a glass bong with 4 aerators and ice thingies. Have not tried it with ice. In fact I knocked it over yesterday and although it didn't spill anything, the draw stem broke off inside the bottom of the bong. Had some fun fishing that out, finally thought to thread it onto a chopstick and ease the broken off stem out that way. I forgot to make sure I got one with a wide base so it wouldn't do that. I guess I'll glue it to an ashtray so that won't happen again, LOL!

I did manage to use it for awhile before I broke the draw stem and I CAN get bigger hits that way. It does make a difference, though I'm sure my technique leaves much to be desired.

So now I guess I have to go learn all about bongs so I can maximize my UnderPuppy.

Child of the 60s that I am, one would think I would be a little more up on pot Accessories - but NOOOOOoooOOooooOOoooOOOOoooo!

:myday:

So would anyone care to share their Underdog + Bong experience with us to help this not-QUITE-old-enough-to-actually-have-been-a-hippie get good and medicated?

EDIT: That's No Common SCENTS, not sense. Sorry, typo'd a pun, LOL!

Hi All, hope all is well on this weekend!

I wanted to finally chime in with my purchase from Dog and Dogette. I'm new and pretty much a noob to vaping. I got my order in on October 2 for a cherry lost dog (air core).

Here's some background on me:

I'm located in Vancouver, BC in Canada

I purchased an Arizer EQ in March - decided that it wasn't really doing the job for me. I searched around and quite quickly dismissed the Da Buddah vape, as I only vape with my wife and sometimes 1 other person (3 max)

The communication throughout was very thorough and very detailed.
Normally, i'm a cheapass and would have gravitated towards the e-nano due to the price.
I've read throughout this thread (all 445 pages) and also read extensively on /r/vaporents about the brand and in almost all situations, read about the customer service. During the ordering process, Dogette helped me along the way and helped me pick the air-core dog which suited my needs.

In almost all situations, my emails were returned within 6 hours TOPS, i think in total, we sent each other close to 15 emails, some at 2:00am (cuz i was reading this FC thread)

I finally placed my order on October 2 in the afternoon.
The pup arrived in 4 days.

For all those that think that the shipping is expensive to Canada, try shipping something from Toronto to Vancouver via Canada Post, via regular parcel it'd be in and around $20, $40 for 2 day shipping.

In other words, pricing for shipping is very reasonable. 4 days from California to Vancouver, I was thrilled to have the dog in my hands this quickly.

Fortunately, they send via USPS, so there were no BS charges that fedex, ups, dhl etc, like to tack on.

As for the performance of the vape....... my arizer is sitting around and hasn't been used since I got my dog. I'm too lazy to sell it, so my excuse was that I'm saving it as a backup, but seeing as the Underdog Vape's probably not going to break anytime in the foreseeable future, i doubt the Arizer is going to see any action.

Oh and as a disclaimer, i paid for this thing, nothing was given to me in exchange for this little review. Count me as a happy customer.

I got a lost dog too, and part of my decision was actually that it was much cheaper than the E-Nano. Especially considering I wanted more stem options and the dog came with them while the E-nano required me to buy most of the stems I wanted separately.

Plus the UD is a unique piece of art even different than the rest of the dogs out there, and the Nano, while beautiful in its own right, is perfectly uniform and almost looks factory made. It made the decision a no-brainer for me.

I think a huge reason why I ended up with a pup is the customer service aspect which I received first hand. While there isn't a "stock" temperature control, it could be purchased pretty easily. I felt that the underdog is more of a complete package whereas e-nano, while initially cheaper, would cost you more in the long run.

All said, I'm glad I bought my pup, initially, I named him brotato, but changed my mind when I realized how effin powerful this thing was. Broseidon is created from cherry wood. No idea why he's a lost dog, as I can't find any flaw.

Been really busy with school recently but just thought I would drop in and say I am now a couple oz's into my dog since getting it over a month ago and haven't looked back since. Thanks for everything

Happy to hear it's working out well for you, thanks for the update!

Sounds like your Pup is treating you pretty well, glad you're happy with it. IIRC the Nano is turned by a CNC machine so are by nature more or less the same besides wood type. We don't have a CNC lathe so all the Dogs are turned by hand with a chisel and each piece being shaped by eyeball on the fly. I love the individuality but sometimes I'm envious that we can't also hit a button and pump some out via CNC lol. :borg:

Yeah a dimmer-dial is like $6-$7 and I sometimes think about including them as part of the standard kit but I suspect most people wouldn't use them that often and I hate waste (and the unnecessary expense) so we keep it simple and point people to Amazon. Love the Brotato and Broseidon names lol! Not totally surprising you can't find a flaw with your Lost Dog, sometimes I can't find the flaw again after noticing it the first time.. but I know it's there so a Lost Dog it must be.

Customer service is top notch. I actually just had a nice email exchange with Underdogette who answered all of my questions expertly. I'm already considering another pup.

That's what we like to hear!:brow:

Yeah my dog is great. I've been using it even more now that I finally picked up that dimmer. It didn't need much, just a tad lower than full power on the dimmer + the extension puts it at a perfect temp.

I didn't know they used a CNC, that makes a lot of sense. CNC lathe I assume? Or do they somehow do it with a normal CNC and some rather thick stock? Knowing that though, I feel like the e-nano should be cheaper seeing as there's less manual labor involved. Perhaps it's that their heating element or power setup that drives the pricing up.

The artistry of each underdog is very unique though. Alan turns his HI's by hand without a CNC and they all seem to be the same shape and proportions. (Except the Pineapple!) And while his work is beautiful, it seems no one else is making logs with the kind of artistic variety that you are. Between that, customer service, pricing, included stems, and availability, UD is the log I'd recommend to anyone.

Given the Nano design it would be much more efficient and cost effective to CNC lathe them (though it would be possible to do it via CNC milling) so I imagine they must be done on the lathe. I also don't recall whether they turn them in-house or contract them out.. I think someone mentioned the latter but not sure, if it is the latter then it might not be any less expensive than hand turning would be. Maybe someone who's a Nano customer knows some of this for sure and can chime in?

Alan (as far as I know) does hand turn all his stuff so I assume his consistent shape/proportions are simply because he finds them optimal for his design. He's a seriously skilled craftsman and it shows in the quality of the work and (to me) in the consistency of the pieces.

At the end of the day being small businesses I suppose we all just do what feels right for our particular design needs and/or artistic expression. For us here at Underdog CNC isn't an option since we don't have one and I would die of boredom if I tried to make Dogs the same by hand all the time so we just do what we do.

Anyways sorry to ramble but shop talk is fun! I frequently think to myself I should take some pics/videos of us making UD stuff but there never seem to be enough hours in the day lol. :peace::cool:

Great posts UD! Love the insights into the Underdog and would love any sort of pics of the UD process. Workshop pictures, tools pics or wood/unfinished dogs - anything really! I'm sure you've got some weird and wonderful dogs lying around.

We want to see where and how our 'Dogs were conceived and born :brow:.

I love the shop talk and would love to see pics as well. I watched all the PD behind the scenes videos even though that's been out of production for a while. I just love seeing this stuff being made. And don't get me started on Dan Morrison and his shots of making the Okin. The process of something being created is sometimes just as enjoyable as the end result!

I've been looking at lathes/cnc/other shop tools and I stumbled upon a CNC lathe that was (relatively) affordable by an australian company called vermec. Might be worth looking into if you wanted to do some more automated production or wanted to play around with different designs. Since the CNC lathe has full control of both the cutting and the rotation you can make pieces that aren't perfectly circular and that opens up a lot of possibilities for carving unique vapes. Of course you then have to take the time to design the vapes on the computer. Very different than freeform woodturning.

Maybe one of these days we'll get that organized and take some pics/video..

Thanks for the name of the Australian company I'll take a look at their stuff. I actually have quite a bit of background experience with CNC, modeling on the computer, etc but have avoided going there for UD mostly because of the boredom factor. :2c:

hey dawg pound, hows it swingin?

been using my econodog since it was gifted and i love it!

i have however been experiencing something troubling the last few days. out of nowhere it is combusting. and im not even putting the vape on the stems completely. ive been hovering it over the stems and its still combusting. i am even using the extension cord.

i use both the nong and the glass stem. i leave the little guy plugged in 24/7. is there any reason why its running hotter than normal all of the sudden?

Sometimes the wood recedes a bit from the core after a while and the reduced contact ups the temps a little bit.. could be what's going on here. Otherwise it could be a change in ambient temps or a slight increase in your power grid voltage level.

If you send Underdogette a message she can get you a longer cord (or an additional one to stack).

Just a quick update on my Dog. 23 months straight of 24/7 operation (minus an occasional power outage).

Flawless. No charring (that I can tell by smell or taste), nothing loose, nothing diminished, still looks beautiful. I've got my consumption down to about 2g a week without any effort on my part to cut down. The efficiency is killer. I'm still in love.

Great Scott!
Underdog and kava tea is how I'm spending my back to the future evening. A dab here or there. Really gotta unwind tonight and its great that I can always count on my underdogs to work the same every time. No problems or broken parts or anything particularly to clean often. I take it for granted. I've gone through a handful of portables recently, so its good knowing that at home I'll be set for good.

Just a thought - have you tried pushing the screen farther down into the stem? The first time I cleaned the screen in one of my stems I noticed I put it back in "shallower" - eg closer to the end and therefore closer to the heating element.

well i could do that with the glass stem, but it is also happening with my nong. and that screen is fixed in there i believe...?

i am thinking about putting another screen into the output tube of the UD itself. of which would keep the heat further away from the load.

all this will be attempted after the new cords arrive.

Sounds like a dimmer might be what u need.
