I find the best way to clean the bottom screen is with something sharp and metallic. I scrape the bottom with a small flathead screwdriver and it it removes most of the gunk.

Scraping that screen made of nickel with a screwdriver? Best way to create microscopic metal particles that will end in your lungs... or at least in your ABV if you keep it. Q-tip + ISO while still slightly warm is all you should need.

I don't clean mine often by the way, it clogs and unclogs itself a bit yes, but it doesn't seem to accumulate much given the direction of the air flow. The screen on the mouthpiece is another story though...

Does anyone know if the FM charger will work in Europe with one of those plug converters?

Yes it's 110V/230V switching, you just need a plug adapter.

The new pro version seems to have alot of the qualitys we were hoping for in a upgrade, digital temp control but still have the same portable size. I think this is a good direction for them , improvement for a already good product, I was thinking about getting the v8 but the size was one of the reason I didn't pull the trigger. Just throwing some ideas out there , I think a lot of users would also like a removable bowl to make it easier to clean those hard to reach places , and maybe a button to pause the fm when you've finished your draw . I seem to be turning it off and on alot because of the long draws I always take, I think a addition like that could help users waste less herb and make the product slightly more efficient. (If the removable bowl is an option , would it improve taste if the ceramic bowl had a layer of glass over it ? More bowl material options ?)

@Teedub, @Bebop and @mr_shady : yeah this is huge! Both the FM5-PRO and FM5-MINI are super appealing!

The FM8 is good too, I enjoy it but for some reason I still prefer my FM5. So the FM5-PRO would be the best of both: small size and full temp control, this is great.

I asked my Smiss contact some details about all these novelties.

PS: the 'desktop' one looks intriguing too, I'm surprised it's already listed as I thought it was still being developed.

I have tried cleaning the bottom screen with qtip+iso but it doesn't work well enough imo when the bottom screen is really over gunked. Scraping with a screwdriver to get the screen 95% clean and then cleaning with qtip+iso works super well which also would clean away any particles. I also use a bit of a cotton ball on top of the load as I found on occasion even with the screen in the mouthpiece I would suck in small particles of buds but with the cotton nada.

I generally try not to let the gunk build up too badly. But it happens and I only use qtips and ISO. Trick is to try and keep the ISO from evaporating by multiple applications and gentle rubbing. If the qtips keeps coming out dirty, it's working. Can take quite a few goes but will get clean.

However, I have next to given up trying to keep the LED portion clean. Think it's some high heat silicon of sorts. Holds the resin real good....

I must admit scraping the screen with a screwdriver did slightly concern me too! I've realised that using cheap cotton buds (or qtips) rather than good ones is actually a way to clean better in the bottom of the bowl as the cheapest ones are thinner and so you can get in there a bit easier. Also the cocktail sticks really helped. I've got 2 Fm now do I've just decided that for the newest one I'll clean it more regularly and that will hopefully keep that one spotless!

Anyone have experience dealing with Smiss directly? I emailed them through alibaba I never heard back for several days so tried again at first I got a reply a few days ago from someone named Phoebe Yang who told me the S version is $56.5 + $38 shipping. Today I got a reply from a Mia Zhang who told me $58 for the S version + $30 shipping I asked about the Pro version which Mia told me were $50 each I haven't heard back from Phoebe yet.

So I get two different prices and shipping rates from the same company and the Pro version which is suppose to be newer and has more features is cheaper than the older S version it doesn't really make sense?

Which should I get the flowermate 5 or the 5.0s? What is the main difference to the 5.0s other then the temp control?

Thats pretty much it, unless you're somehow getting an original FMV5, which has an old logo (mj) and exposed LED in the heating chamber.
Oh so which would be better as I'm going to collect the AVB and I don't want mine to come out too dark so which would be better for that?

Go with temp control and vape on blue If you want to keep it light. Even maybe purple for a few sips.

Alright thanks for the help I found it on ebay for 75$ how will I know if its a fake or not?
Remember that PIU will pricematch. For piece of mind, going with Randy at PIU is well worth it. Not to mention he has replacement stems and such as well. Worth an email for sure.

Edit: currently out of stock...carry on.

I found that the bowl screen gets very hard to clean if it's room temp or cold , best time to do it is right after a session when the bowl is nice and hot , i use a pair of tweezers to lightly scrape it also , without much force so I don't really worry too much about metal shavings since I do it very lightly. I have a question tho , how does the fm compare to other vaporizers in vapor density ? If I want to have big clouds should i start a bowl on red temp? Everytime I always go blue purple and red but it feels like the clouds aren't always there.

Can't seem to edit my post above just got another email from Mia apparently it's $50 for the 5.0 version and $58 for the S and Pro versions. Still find it weird that the S and Pro versions are the same price.

too much time passed to edit. You can post again, just not back to back.

Get the pro. You might be the first to report back on it for us.

My Smiss contact told me it was too early to get the Pro and Mini version as they are not mass produced yet. They brought prototypes to CES2015 at Las Vegas though, but mass production should begin after Chinese new year only (so about end of February).

I managed to grab some early pieces of info: The Mini will be similar to the Goboof Alpha in the sense that it has a single battery cell and smaller form factor compared to the FM5. It will also have USB charging, very handy. It will be less powerful than the FM5/5S/PRO but even more pocketable.

The FM5-PRO is a direct upgrade of the FM5 platform and I'm really eager to test it, as I really wish my FM5-S had a lower temperature level or two (blue is too high for me already, I'm a flavor whore!)

The assumptions that were made earlier in the thread about why they don't release some products on the US market were apparently partly false: the real reason is because of their OEM partnership with Atmos and the fact they are under pressure to give them exclusivity rights. This is why you don't see the FM3, FM4 and FM7 listed on their site, as they are sold respectively as Atmos Orbit, Atmos LIV and Atmos Transporter (this explains why these Atmos vapes don't suck like their other products hehe)

@lostmyv6 : don't hesitate and get the FM5-S... or wait for the PRO!

@Bebop : do you tamp/compact your load? Strains (and even different buds of the same plant) as well as dryness, room moisture and temperature all have a big impact on vapor production, so it's normal if you don't get the same amount all the time.

KeroZen:
Yea I did compact the load ,I was asking because I get inconsistent vapor production , sometimes I'll get good vapor and sometimes the vapor is not satisfying . I think the main reason is the bud , it's not high quality . I was just wondering if starting on the red temp is different then slowly going up from blue in terms of getting the most out of the bud because I read that thca will convert to thc more in lower temps than higher temps. It might not be as relevant for the fm because the blue temp is actually already pretty high. Maybe one toke on blue before going red will convert the thca enough so you get the most out your bud? I'm new to vaping so I have the need to feel the hit in my lungs:p I think maybe one advantage the older version might have over the new pro might be durability? Seems alot of ppl have atleast dropped it once , and the unit worked fine after.dont know if the pro version would still be as durable since there is a new temp display and the digital temp control might be more delicate?

@mr_shady : The ETA is more March/April I've been told... hope you have another vape to use while you wait!

@Bebop : I don't know if it will be that much more fragile. Technically all the FM5's already have digital temperature control, it's just that they expose the set point(s) or not. But you are right with a screen and two extra buttons, there will be more potential failure points in the PRO version.
