I love Ariya, and I love Jon - but I'm starting to hate GRRM.I don't think I mention any SPOILERS below, but if you haven't watched all of this season, STOP READING.
I tried to be creative with the events I listed below so in case someone continues reading without seeing the finale, they might remain a mystery to them(or just think I'm a weirdo-or both)
I(not having read the books),was rather content with the last episode and how it "ended" for now. I feel it blended a nice mix of new storylines for next year(Dead Dad, draining the Mountain, the Incestously Challenged Duo, and the one true King<imo> -Jon Snow, He is my favorite out of the characters GRR hasn't killed yet lol) and brought some viewer "headway" to others(Ariya, finally done traveling with dog, and "Master Blaster" finally reaching the damn tri-ops, were 2 that seemed to drag on endlessly this season. Good to see some change in their respective scenery for next year. Flying reptiles, not so much there though, wtf? Boo--Hisss).
Oh, I amlost forgot. THE super TALL guys at the wall(and tunnel) were just...f%$@ing cool!
oh, and I love Bran.

And if we suspend reality enough, we KNOW that a dragon will never allow themselves to be chained let alone have a human as a mother.

I agree. I watch to "get lost" in that world for an hour. Fantastic, fantasy escapism, for me.

Human misery, cruelty, abuse and oppression by those in power. It's pretty realistic to me.
But Ariya turned away at the Eyrie gate with no mention of "we should bring you to your aunt's new husband" and Brienne not mentioning Sansa when meeting her....that stuff bugs me.

I should take notes when I'm watching. They usually just annoy me and I move on so I don't have a list, I just know there's way too many of them. Here's a simple example. I'll tag it it for people who haven't caught up.
During the battle for Castle Black, they spent a lot of footage showing us the two giants and a bloody great mammoth taking a lot of trouble to hook up a chain to the "4 inches of cold rolled steel" gate in an effort to get in. When it all goes bad thanks to some burning oil from above, one of the giants just lifts up the gate and walks in. WTF? Sorry, but that is horseshit writing.

Maybe he was able to do that due to all of the previous damage that was done?
I'm just glad that my mind isn't preoccupied with looking for all the glitches. "Ignorance is bliss" works really well for me when watching things that are supposed to be entertaining simply because...... it's more entertaining that way.

So it is your explanation that the damage that was done (portrayed as minimal by the way) somehow made the door lighter?
I'm not preoccupied looking for inconsistencies, quite the opposite. I'm doing my best to ignore them but they still grate on my nerves.

A HUGE mammoth pulling on a gate, in my opinion, is not portrayed as minimal damage.
I know Paka. I know that you are not consciously looking for these inconsistencies. It's just the way your mind works. You can't help it. I'm just glad that when it comes to being entertained, mine doesn't work that way.
I have a hard enough time just following all the different story lines without cluttering up my head with minor plot inconsistencies.

The giants use a ram made out of a tree trunk to get through the first gate, although you don't find this out until after the battle when Jon goes down to see what's happened and finds the giant and co all dead
Anyway, that's just nitpicking lol

While I do concede that there are inconsistencies and bits of sloppy writing throughout the series, I think that is pretty much unavoidable when adapting such a mammoth series of books into a tv show. As an avid fan of the books, there are plenty of choices the tv show has made that I dislike. Overall though, I think the show runners are doing an admirable job of staying true the books and providing an entertaining series for readers and non readers alike.
I don't have a problem with the scene in question at all. The giants were originally trying to rip the gate off completely to let the army flow through. When they failed and one giant was killed, the other (Mag the Mighty) was crazed and attacked the gate on his own. It's probably much easier to lift the gate up than rip it off. I don't think it was supposed to be something that he may have been able to do normally but this was to portray the heroic final charge of the oldest and strongest of giants.
Whatever, he couldn't have held the door open? Didn't Mama Mighty teach him any manners?
That was just a small sample. I agree that the showrunners are doing a fine job of bringing bad writing to life on TV.
