Drying out your bud........

I keep all my bud in the freezer. Comes out nice and fresh. I like fresher stuff on the Vape. On the extreme at least, the first couple hit's don't give much, but taste soooo good, and after that, the vape dried the bud itself and its ready for dank hits.

What if you have bud thats just way too dry?

I got a decent amount of weed thats just SO dry.
I was thinking of getting a water sprayer, and then re-drying it for a little bit.
Id also imagine this makes the smoke\vapor less harsh, which would be a big plus.

Anyone else behind me on this idea? To spray the weed with some water and then letting it dry a bit, but not too much?

Unless the water contains thc then i can't see how it could help.

Just vape it as is.

Green dragon sprayed or dripped on bud and left to dry/evaporate, not tried yet but is on my list of things to do.

Keeping Bud Long Term...I read that you should dry the bud 'til the stems snap rather than bend. Then store in an air-tight mason jar in a cool dark place...am wondering how long they will last--a couple months, a year?

If its vacuum sealed it can be stored for a very very long time and in my experience become better if you are doing this for curing purposes.

I haven't gone this route but a while ago while searching tea storage someone suggested using small unused paint cans, which would be sort of pain in the ass to open and close but for air tight sealness it probably can't be beat.

I understand that if you dry out the buds before grinding you'll wind up with more goodies in the bottom chamber of your grinder, but is there any other reason to dry the buds before grinding? I've been grinding the herb and usually further combing through the ground herb to remove all bits of stems and seeds, reducing it to a fine powder. This powder then dries out really quickly. Are there any drawbacks to doing it this way?

I don't get too analytical regarding the drying/grinding process but I do find that if I dry it out for a few hours - a few buds inside a shot glass on top of a PD - I'll get an easier and better grind.

i think I'll follow lwiens lead and not worry about drying it out. I dont care about vapour production, and if I get a better flavour, that more than makes up for it. Fresh/moist weed is better when combusting so hopefully not drying it out as much will leave better ABV for combusting later.

I had to look up mezz mezzrow but I wasnt expecting to learn a new term for weed! Thats hilarious :D

I think that as long as there's air flow through the herb, you should be fine.

Yeah, Mezz was more of a weed man than a reed man. His autobiography, "Really the Blues", is an interesting book, and gives you a window on the American drug culture of the early Twentieth century. One thing that occurred to me is that a common term for herb user at that time was "viper". So in the 80 years or so since then we've gone from being "vipers" to "vapers".

If weed is too fresh for me it can make me feel a bit sick with the strong Chlorophyll after taste you can get. Also I think some strains get stronger when they are dried correctly, certainly my own close personal experience of an autoflowering variety.

I think that all bud needs to be cured correctly before smoking or vaping, but I don't think drying out bud past the curing stage can make it any more potent, eh?

Maybe i was taking willywagtail's 'fresh and moist' weed description too literally ;)

In a pinch, desiccant can be put into a jar with your favorite herbs and it will facilitate the drying process faster. For those who don't know what it is:

I'd say after seeing a pic of one of these things most if not all should know what they are and where to find them :D.

To elaborate, I said in a pinch because it is generally accepted that slowly cured weed has smoother hits and more complex (better?:uhoh:) flavours. Though I've never actually perform controlled sessions to see whether this is true or not in all my years of smoking I thought I'd put that out there before the snobs come in (but aren't we all vape snobs here at FC?) and destroy me! :o

By the way, desiccant packs are reusable so don't toss it after drying out your herbs - bring it somewhere to dry out and you can use it again in turn to dry out more herbs. All a game of balance with the atmosphere really :ko:

It's good that the package clearly states "DO NOT EAT" to alleviate any confusion.

I actually usually put a few fresh buds on a wood tray and put it on top of my cable box for around 24hrs. Heats the tray just enough, and i have the box packed inside a small area of my entertainment cabinet and it hold the heat well. Afterward, the grind is simply much easier.

Dry is the only way to vape.

What would be considered too much heat? I put a few buds in a shotglass on top of a PD for about five hours - it's definitely warmer than a cable box. And yes, it makes grinding much easier.

Not necessarily.

I never grind or dry my bud. It depends on what vape you are using. I prefer to preserve the tastes/odours/actives that are lost with grinding and the bud dries out somewhat when in the bowl as I preheat/condition it before vaping, IMO.
