The Lotus Vaporizer

ataxian, you keep implying that the Lotus is not a good medical unit and it is a good recreational unit but that is only true in your experience and in your situation.

It is too subjective of a topic to generalize like you do.

Great times you had as a kid though. ;)
I have this super thin long JHOOK that makes the LOTUS functional for me. It does taste pretty good!
I think I got over medicated?
Everyday I see myself using this thing!
vrxxGoI.jpg

I tried to resist however this set up the last 3 sessions is not bad really. I found 8 grams of CACTUS COOLER strain and mixed a gram of GRANDY PURPLE strain. OMG. If you like or love flavor this is a weird combination.

CC = PINEAPPLE/ORANGE flavor
GDP = GRAPE

Mixing these 2 was like fruit punch!

The LOTUS is kind of funny: it's like smoking a joint with out the harshness! Maybe I change my option however this is were I'm at!

good stuff. I saw that @filteredhead made a mod out of a 18m-14m adapter and i asked him about sizes, how much to cut off and he hooked me up with sizing and gave me some positive encouragement. thanks bro! As promised, here's some picts.
I picked up the adapter from a local smoke shop on the cheap, $9 no tax and went to work. Had another one i bought in a bundle from the classifieds but it looks to be better made then this one and I wanted to experiment first. Cut off some of the 14m side with a diamond cut-off wheel and a dremel to make it about 12m long and checked it in the lotus cap. Grind a little bit more, checked again, than hit it with a torch to flame polish the edges and make it smooth. Than squeezed in a screen that fits pretty perfectly from the 18m side. Came out really nice!

Haven't tried it yet as I'm still taking a break but it seems like it will work awesome.

btw... Here's the first 2 photos I've ever posted. Enjoy!

that setup is awesome! How long is the actual j-hook? Is it a comfortable distant that your eyes can focus on the flame and cap?

I was not having great results with the LOTUS and was kind of struggling? The problem was I couldn't see the flame on the cover with some of my pieces.

This long SHERLOCK (JHOOK) not only smooths the rip it makes it easy for me to see and operate the LOTUS correctly.

I'm going to buy a second long SHERLOCK for when I break this.

I love glass with the LOTUS!

I can see clearly now the smoke is gone...
@Megan very well written.
I know we are all different and one size doesn't fit everyone.
However I like the LOTUS and it does taste good I find it hard for me to use.

The LSV will medicate to a state of COMA level if I so desire.

The NANO with water is super easy.

The VAPOLUTION 2 is flavor city.

The SOLO is a maintance tool for me.

Don't get me wrong I think the LOTUS is basic simple and very useful for many people.
My cerebellum is shrinking.
The cerebellum controls your cordination. CANNABIS works better than what the PHD's want to give me.

Cannabis is 100000x better than any vaporizer.

Anyone vaporizer is not the "HOLY GRAIL" CANNABIS is!

I use the LOTUS because I like the challenge!

I LOVE THE LOTUS!!

The problem is many people get defensive in this thread when you say the Lotus can't compete with some of these other Vapes. Well, guess what? It can't.

It cannot hit as hard as the LSV, Cloud or many other powered desktop vapes. I have the Lotus Tek down to a science and it just can't do it.

The Vap 2 tastes noticeably better than the Lotus. This is not a knock on the Lotus as the Vap 2 tastes better than any vape I have tasted.

The Lotus cannot match the simplicity of a Log Vape. A log vape is always on, load a bowl and hit it, put it in a bong and instant water filtration. Simplicity at it's finest.

I love it and it will always have a place on my shelf. But to ignore it's limitations makes no sense to me?

Vapor.wise
deadheadbill, i wonder if the "people get defensive" has me included in it.

If it does, let me tell you i acknowledge Lotus limitations fully. But the trade off is worth it IMO.

I have other vapes, many with an emphasys on taste (VHW, Gnome, Vaponic), and i would feel hard pressed to find a portable unit that delivers what the Lotus delivers. The same when comparing with many desktop units.

Considering the limitations, as i see them:

1. It does not have a preset temperature or electric controled temperature.

2. It does not have a big bowl.

3. It's not made of materials as clean as glass.

To me these are characteristics because:

Limitation 1: Allows for more versatility, portability and autonomy.

Limitation 2: Allows for better efficiency and thick hits with little material.

Limitation 3: It is more sturdy while maintaining great flavour.

I also would like to know where did someone say it can compete with an LSV in terms of heavy hitting?
IF you consider the ability to milk a bong, the Lotus can milk like the best. Perhaps not the EVO or the Herbalizer, but it will keep up with the LSV. (provided the same quantity of material which won't happen since the LSV has a bigger bowl and higher air/vapor ratio)
Of course, it will be difficult to sustain a hit as long as you would a desktop vape though but no one said the opposite of that.

As for the comparison to a log vape, that is only true if you leave the log vape on 24/7 and that is true for many other vapes (SSV, LSV can also be on 24/7).
Same for water filtration.

Where did people ignore its "limitations"?

For me the Lotus routine is at least as simple as my log routines. The log is always on and the torch lighter is always filled as well… I see no differences there with a log. :2c:
My Hot Pod had a glass air-path and vapor-path and according to most that tested one the taste was up there with the best of them. I haven't noticed any significant taste differences between it and the Lotus with the same loads to be frank...
When the loads go up the taste is also subject to change of course. You can't compare the taste of 0.1g and the taste of 0.03-0.05gs imho… You just can't. The flavor will be much more pronounced and strong with higher loads. I am sure that's what some Pax owners say when they prefer it's taste over a full convection vape!
And of course you can't expect a vape with a 0.1g average load to hit harder than a vape that can handle 1g loads, right? Apart from that, I can get knocked out with a couple of lung busting hits from 0.05g loads in my Lotus so I really don't care about more power. As with a log, it's better to reload and enjoy some more freshness imo. :2c:

I was writing similar comment as NF and Vorrange.
My lotus just became daily driver recently when my log glass stem broke. I don't feel I'm in lack of a "hard hitting" vape actually :p. As they where saying there is a lot to consider when comparing vapes and it depend on personal preference. Here the Lotus, with a bit of practice is replacing and do exactly what I was expecting from my log, considering it is flame-powered and thus what it's implying. So I understand why people dare to compare it to solid desktop when the Lotus feel their requirement in others aspects...
It has for sure a really good place on a vaporist shelf maybe just next to the top, in my case at least (small shelf I admit).

You Must Unlearn, What You Have Learned...
You guys know how I feel about the LSV. Although the Lotus is growing on me more and more. I'm a fan of the shorter transfer wand with the LSV, so using that logic I have set out to find a short Sherlock/hook/bowl to accommodate a shorter vapor path while not being too close to the face. So I got this piece http://www.pipesdaddy.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=HP-0133&CartID=2hoping the wpa would fit. It doesn't, but if the wpa was shortened to a notch below first o-ring, which I was tempted to try, it would work. My other thought was to drill out the bowl a bit, still a thought. So I pondered a bit more and put a piece of silicone tubing from my EV-2 on the bottom of the Lotus wpa. I set it in the bowl and balance the pipe and wpa/Lotus with one hand really simple actually, and although the flame is close, I have never, I repeat I have never been burnt while using the Lotus. A huge advantage over the coil, like the coil the top and bottom come apart and when one side is hot, it can turn into a game of hot potato real quick! Lotus hasn't burned me yet and this hot potato has happened a few times. The lightweight of the lotus top is also more glass friendly when this occurs, the wpa isn't but the coil really isn't in this comparison. Anyways, I'm super impressed with this setup although still in early development. Imagine all your old beautiful combustion pipes just sitting around could be useful Lotus pipes, with a little elbow grease!
What are your thoughts on this beauty? http://heynowsaywhat.bigcartel.com/product/j-hook

Customer Service at Mendicino Therapeutics is awesome . They sent me the wrong torch by mistake , i ordered the sleek one, so they are sending me a scoop and some screens . I gave them the option to either have me return the torch or call it even with those other items

I find it all comes down to technique, I can make my lotus white wall my glass as thick as any of my heavy hitters, not to argue points here, just saying that I have found very similar if not equal results with the Lotus. It just took a lot of trial and error to figure out the proper heating technique, and pairing it up with the correct piece of glass, and finding the right draw speed. High volume pieces seem to be too airy and don't want to milk up the same as these small china bubs I have, which milk up so thick I keep having to pull back the torch in fear of combustion. There seems to be a point where a certain amount restriction works for the lotus, I just hope other people can find the stellar results I am getting from my lotus. I've had a Cloud at one point, use the Sublimator and Heat Island Log in my daily rotation now, and I find the Lotus is keeping up just fine with those :D Everyone has different experiences and patience levels, I tend to experiment and push things a lot.

Was just looking this up also and was thinking of ordering 2-14 Male to 14 female 90° adapters and a keck clip. Something like this:

41JktTlUiOL.jpg

Would have to hold it by the adapter at the bottom though because I assume you would not be able to rig another clip onto the water tool itself. Don't have a lot of experience with the clips.

Anyone have any better ideas before I buy this stuff. (I have tried contacting glass blowers direct a few times lately and no responses) :disgust:
