Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

I don't agree with you mark but I will put up my thoughts. Just quickly that oven holds about .8 and a gram can be stuffed in if so desired. You get about 10 minutes off that much herb and some people use that amount in a week not me of course. I went through a shitload of herb last night with the same amount of medication as normal. Once you are medicated you are not going to get more medicated with more herb will be useful and just wasted as it is in the ascent. When I did other tests with lower amounts the medication level was the same so a fully packed oven IMO is the silliest thing you can do unless you don't care how much herb you use with some paying more then 20 bucks a gram.

Again when I am done putting it through its paces I will report. I am anal and like to try many different things including changing the air path length as I find the ascent harsh for my liking.

I think that the ascent may produce visible clouds more consistently with a smaller load size. But this is complicated by the fact that the load wants to creep away from the bottom of the bowl. I really want to love my ascent. It seems to be issue free as far as off-gassing and some of the cosmetic inconsistencies others have been reporting, and if there's a gap in the airpath I can't detect it.

But I am not sure if my unit is functioning correctly. The display doesn't seem to represent what's going on as far as battery life and temperature, which is only partially solved by an off/on reset. But the issue that bothers me the most is when it just quits heating up. It's not the auto-shutoff, it usually happens when I try to adjust the temperature upwards but the temp keeps going down. This has been solved with resets so far.

Unfortunately, the temperature display issue is not helped by a reset. I will set it to 390f for example, and it will climb slowly from say 345 to 359, maybe 363 or something, and then jump right to 390 with the coffee cup when I know it's not there because there's no difference. Worse, it seems to give up or something because it never gets to 390 unless I set it to 420, but it's quite inconsistent so these again are just examples and nothing to rely on. These issues can be confirmed with a quick reset, which will usually give me a current temperature display.

What seems to be going on the ascent will display the desired temperature rather than the actual one, even if they are grossly different. So I never know where it's at in its seeming struggle to keep up with where it's supposed to be. I will experiment more with smaller load size and my pipestone spacer, but so far the only thing that my ascent is doing for me consistently and anywhere near satisfyingly, is re-vaping abv herb. Which is nice at bedtime, it's great that I can take a couple of bowls that I didn't feel I got as much out of as I should have and put them together at the end of the evening for a nice nightcap, but I was hoping for more versatility than that.

It just seems to sit there and cook the herb, but I am not getting the vapor. It doesn't matter how much herb you have lying around, if you're not getting results you're not getting results. Nobody likes turning green herb brown without any satisfaction, which for me means consistent, visible vapor production. I also have experienced the issue of not getting visible vapor when inhaling but getting it out the bottom if I blow, not very much and pardon the pun but it still sucks.

When I woke up in the middle of the night recently and the plug-in units were off or inconvenient, I went for the vapor genie instead of the ascent because I knew it would medicate me with green herb. I have used a lot of material with the ascent, but the results have been inconsistent to frustrating and the only thing I can count on it for is to take light abv and make it darker. It will give me relatively consistent visible vapor when I do it that way which is satisfying at bedtime.

One positive thing is that the ascent does not seem to have any combustion issues but I wonder if they may have somehow erred in the opposite direction.

I realize that my technique could probably improve, but as I said I am not sure if my unit is functioning properly. I will make a final assessment when the cotton gets here, but it looks like at least an eventual exchange for sure. As far as technique goes it may just be me with battery-operated portables, because I tried a small log vape today for the first time and it got me high right out of the gate just like the vapor genie did, and like a battery-operated unit never does. Maybe the only one that would satisfy me is a Minivap but it makes the solo look tiny.

So I'll probably, and reluctantly, send my ascent back at some point, give the replacement a try, and if there's no difference pass it on to someone else because it must be me. But my ascent's display and the logic functions behind it are acting mighty strange so who knows.

Am I the only person with a great functioning ascent??? I can put bright green fresh barely cured herb in mine and get clouds from 360 on up. Or stuff that's been curing for six months! I can vape loads from .1 on up to nearly a gram with a good pack! I'm finding that the battery seems to last a bit longer after every drain/charge. I did however get my IR thermometer back today and can confirm that the temp of the bowl is on average 15 to 30 degrees cooler than what the screen reads. Besides that and a couple cosmetic issues my ascent is a fucking beast of a portable!

Vape, do you think some of that can be because you waited so long, had so much anticipation, and you paid big bucks? I can get visible vapor starting at 360 as well and I do believe I have a functioning unit. I also believe the temp is way off about ten degrees in my estimate because about 364 feels like 374 to me. I always vape without looking when I first try a vape and settle in to a temp then I look and almost every time without fail it is in my 375 range. With this vape at 375 I was coughing and my lungs hurt. I think you might have new vape syndrome. This vape will be great for some but we need to keep this objective and if you put in your own opinions because of your needs and vaping style it should be posted as such so people understand that.

I love certain vapes cause for me they work and some are not seen as great vapes and are Chinese not made well vapes. I have great vapes that others don't like because of how they draw or what they like so all this needs to be separated out.

I wad playin with IR thermometer today also and saw the same result. I IRed the outside grille and oven sides as well and had outside surface temps between 110-130.
Is that bad? It feels warmer than my pax on high after 20 mins of use. And my solo is only hot along the base of the stem.

I will have to IR those and compare tomorrow.

This is not a "in my head" type of scenario. I do however understand that it could be perceived as such but, in my case I am remaining impartial. I've owned solos, paxi, pinnacle, original dv and a few others and this thing is just outperforming them all. Not because it outperforms them all in every aspect but, because it seems to be the best combination of all of my favorite portables.
It does look super cool tho!:brow:

That's how I feel but I'm still not 100% sold on it for MY USE. SOLO and PAX are my go to portable/pocket vapes and the Extreme Q for desktop. The ascent has features from all of them that I love (if it only did bags too LOL).

Once the bugs are all worked out I stillbelieve this can be the game charger they made it out to be.

they should make a little glass spacer for the people that need that as well as Topless oil jars with a notch to pull it out with the pick. Too hot too pull out with fingers and still too much leftover to turn upside down without making a mess.

I also prefer the pax and solos oven setup much easier to empty when done. Take a little more effort. Not a huge issue though and once I use it more I will get over the learning curve. I have only gotten to use mine 3 times so far due to schedule and such. First time with ABV, then fresh herb, and finally some shatter.

I packed the bowl to almost the top and added a bit of cotton. Going to blow it up on the drive home. This is the REAL test since primarily this will be a portable/driver vape. The plan is to maybe incorporate it to be a home vape replacement of my solo (though I will never get rid of it all together)

The one vape to rule them all!

Lol, you can get them in any store I have been using them for years for my teeth and realized non-vape tools work better. If you are lucky I will show you my lineup of almost free tools. I pressed the load with the oil jar and to me it was a pain as I don't like any extra work. I then tried my normal tools, pencil eraser...one of my favs, even that stupid pipe tool all recommended me to get it sucks, I forgot to try my mini leatherman but will. In either respect my tooth cleaner fit and worked best. It is always right nest to me on my nightstand and not even with my other tools lol. The top of a bic pen will most likely be as good but I don't use bics nor do I carry a pen.

I use the oil jar w/o a lid and when finished I open the oven, insert lid and remove jar w/ tool.

VC: I could get more hits per load, and if I was low on meds I would. If I have plenty of meds, I don't mind having some abv left to recycle. I've made some pretty good oil runs w/ abv before. Just to doublecheck, I did a load at 385 last night and got decent vapor throughout. Just not as satisfying to me as the vapor at 410. I like to start low for flavor, then work my way up to maintain satisfying pulls.

You dequoted my quote Snake. Don't make me set off the explosive ...

True that but the lids are a bitch to get on and off. I tried it with the lid today and it worked much better and also had much less rattle. I have changed my opinion on the oil and the ascent. Today I vapes a bit of shatter and it tasted amazing! Way better than the robot farts of the cloud. And I actually got a little cloud (very little) which is more than I get with the cloud (it uses the gpen atomizer so I never get clouds but it actually works better). Probably wont do oils out if it a whole lot but after my 2 sessions this morning it's def getting up there in my opinion.

I vapes on the drive home and used the auto cycle for 15 mins 6:30 on 250,6:30 on 360, 2:00 on 410.

Worked pretty good and was relatively impressed. I had packed the bowl pretty full (way more than I would normally smoke) just to be sure and topped it with cotton. Vaped all the way from work to the flea market. Then I hit the Pax on the ride home for a little comparison. The Pax performed better for me at that moment and its somplicity is an asset as well. Much more medicated but I had it set to high from the start so that was a contributing factor. The ascent's auto cycle is the tie breaker for me though. Ever tried to drive and change temps on a Pax? Win ascent. Also way more uniform in abv color with the ascent over the pax.

Then I got home and did some shatter and we already discussed the results.

The final blow was a little Alaskan ice. I ground it corse and packed it in the bottom and tamped it down TIGHT!! with the oil can. Added a little cotton for good measure and Vaped 10 mins or so on 365 and WOW! really good clouds and taste and almost up to my ridiculously high standards because of my solo. It more than did the job and I'm not just saying that because I have now medicated 4 times in the last 4 hours either.

Oh to add a little end note. My oil can leaked a little when I played with it open in the oven after my initial session. Once it cooled off I used a poker with a alcohol prep on the end and it cleaned like a champ. This this is a little more maintenance than the solo but way less than the pax. It's on point with the vaporblunt 2 in that department.

I'd suggest you get a good feel for the courtesy our forum members give and receive before expressing with an inflated sense of entitlement. If you take some time to peruse these FC forums with an eye open for the depth, breadth, and demeanor of this tremendous resource, it'll be well worth it! Good luck!

Okay, so I just got a ascent from my friend to try out/get sorted out before he sends it back.

Initial impressions: looks amazing from a far. If i saw it across a room laying on a table or saw someone pull it out of their pocket I would seriously think its a phone at least until someone started hitting it. I would have no problems pulling thid out at a security check at a game or concert etc...

That being said, when holding it in my hand You can easily tell it was hand "assembled". Parts not aligning and kind of sticking out in certain areas, hazy scratched screeen. Nothing i can see in the air path though so i guess thats a good sign.

Also, the glass seems okay, as long as you dont drop it on something hard. My friend dropped one of the glass stems in the kitchen from standing and cracked it. Oh well good thing there is an extra.

Now on to the testing: so i literally just got it an hour ago. My friend had used it a couple times before he gave it to me but the main reason he wanted me to try it was because of a funky taste/smell. I thouroughly cleaned it before turning it on and there is definitely an odd odor. Reminds me of the robot fart smell from the solo...anyway turned it up high with nothing loaded and Bam! Visible off gassing? Like i said though, it was used already so cant be sure whats happening but it doesnt seem good.

Gonna keep running it and hopefully the off gassing or whatever will die down. We will see...

With all the talk of them delaying it because they want to get it right before they release it, i would have expected something better. Definitely potential here, but too many problems so far for me to recommend it

Peculiar Baby there. I think he will grow to be a transhuman :-&

If solder paste in the electronic bay is source of offgassing, unit must be cleaned by deassembly.

Not sure if I can post in another manufacturers thread !? Let me know if this is unapropriate.

for the bag part I think it would be pretty simple to fix, adapt a bag on the stem and blow air on the grill of the ascent ;) someone should try it out if it works
