What's the deal with the O-rings ? And what about the different Pvhes stems ? turbo vs non, shorty vs non, ect..

I would let one of informed member to elaborate bout O-ring..
Hehe even I am a bit new...as far as stems r concerned ..here u go
PVHES - Straight or Bent
  • standard bowl size
  • micro channel technology
  • multiple air entry points
PVHES Shorty - Straight or Bent
  • 30% smaller bowl size
  • micro channel technology
  • multiple air entry points
  • overall stem length remains unchanged from stock
Turbo Option
  • Large Single Bore with a glass rim to hold the required screen
  • micro channel technology
  • multiple air entry points

From the looks of it the Turbo option is one large hole with a glass rim to hold a screen.

USB is 5V@500mA. the Solo wants 12V to charge, so the voltage has to go up from 5V to 12V, a factor of 2.4. So the current has to go down that much, from 500mA to 208mA. call it 200mA because of over-head. there are chips that will do this, they are called boost converters because they boost a supply voltage up but reduce the current available the corresponding amount down.

With a couple of tweaks I agree with this part. First off there's a whole lot more 1 Amp than half Amp USB ports out there these days. 1 Amp, 5 Volts, 5 Watts. At say 80% conversion efficiency we're talking 4 Watts, 330 mA, give or take. After considering efficiency you'd get half that (say 170 mA) from a low power port.

The important part is Solo will fault out if less that the needed current is available (input voltage will drop under 7 Volts and it will tilt out to light shows). It's a non starter at that level. USB ports provide about 1/3 the total power needed to keep the Solo charge circuit going, it won't reduce it's demands current wise. I tried....

I think OF just left out a word. It is advised to use high temp o-rings. I think if you look back at the original 113 it is rated IIRC to 450. PV is high temp as well.

I think it is just the same one we have but time will tell.

Entirely possible. The joint here's littered with unused words......

But I can't for the life of me figure out what you're talking about, so have no idea what that word might be????

I too think PV is supplying the same 450F rings I got from McMaster Carr based on side by side comparison but have nothing more to base it on.

Here you go, $13 for 50 of the right part:
http://www.mcmaster.com/#5233t58/=nht4l8

I strongly advise against using rings that far above their temperature ratings. Common Buna rings are rated to 200 or 250. There are health concerns, are you sure it's not worth two bits to your to be safe?

Think about it, any vapor anywhere under the cap is sooner or later going to get sucked up and out the stem......that's the way air flows in the unit. In the vents, out the stem.

OF

Thanks, I have the right "so" called o ring from PV and money is not an issue for me , I would not use any seal if there are health concerns which is the reason I'd like to find the right fitting o ring with no concerns of busting the bottom screws out or getting fumes and the 14X2mm is the right o ring if I can get it in high temp. I was going to get a high temp Viton o ring which are available but was told it had to be silicone?

I have thought about the vapor path, position of seal to glass etc. and I like to know what temps were dealing with on the outside of stem because it sure isn't close to vape temp from chamber inside? If I'm doing multiple bowls
I won't even turn the solo off I just pull the stem, empty, fill, reinstall, and continue vaping all in less than a minute, and I've never burn myself handling whatever temps on the outside. I realize that any vapor on the outside will eventually work it's way over to the chamber ( however little is produced?) I just think that with the temps that the ring gets it would be minimal.
I will continue to use the 113's till I can find the right fitting high temp o ring which is 14x2mm , if anyone else can find it this is the right fitting oring over the 113!

Great, then there should be no problems. I gave you one of I'm sure many good sources of the appropriate size and material ring. Your call.

You don't need Si, hard Viton will also take the temperature. But it's going to be harder and more slick, both factors we're trying to avoid here? We want a solid grip with low pressure. Si seems the smart material choice.

You're estimates of temperatures are your own. I have a more conservative respect for Thermodynamics. I know, for instance, that the outside of the stem can be too hot to touch? I have every reason to believe it gets pretty close to the bowl temperature up there in use, the original ring (no doubt chosen for it's high temperature properties) takes a serious beating.....

Your call. You asked for sources of Si rings? There ya go. M/C's got them in stock.

Best wishes.

Got my solo today... Read abit trough this thread but almost 700 pages with new and old models is just to much to read trough... I have a few simple questions I hope someone can help me out with

first of my vaporizer came charged in the box, if I understand correctly I should use it until the battery is 100% emty and then charge it fully, to increase battery life, and then after doing that I should not let battery life get under say 40%?

Second of, when I turn on my vaporizer out of the box, the ledlight with 7 next to it blinks real quickly, is this my battery life indicator?

Third of, can I just plug it in the power when I go to sleep and take it out 8 hours or so later? or is this bad for battery life

besides all these questions I just unboxed mine, let it run on 7 for 12 mins... filled it up with some grass (Amnessia) and after 2 bowls i feel like I am floating on a cloud... not sure if im gonna be using my volcano a whole lot after getting this...

No, do not ever run it to full empty if you love it. That will damage the battery every time. You won't find that instruction or advice here, just guys who get confused with their call phone and laptops and the lame way they describe this. There it's to calibrate the battery meter function. Like figuring out how big your gas tank is by running the car until the engine dies.

In fact, protecting the battery from deep discharge is so important that Solo recalibrated the battery display several models back to get folks to recharge earlier (there's still several sessions 'available' when the gauge drops to zero).

And don't use it until it's been fully charged, that's in the instructions, but I guess you've already taken care of that? The first charge to full can set the maximum on later charges in some cases. I'd stop doing anything but recharging right now if it were mine.

Yes, a brief flash on the top LED is normal, followed by a couple seconds of battery level, followed by idle mode. It also beeps with the second idle light flash if enabled. PA mode is a bit different.

You can leave it plugged in after it's charged, but that is usually discouraged as a routine practice.

Alright took your advice and plugged it in straight away, now I'll wait untill the green light stops flashing and stays green all the time I suppose

When I turned it on the top led flashed briefly but it did not seem to show battery life.. oh well ill figure it out gonna let the battery load to 100% first

oh also.. 'And don't use it until it's been fully charged, that's in the instructions' i cant find this in my instructions..

and thanks for the advice !

@OF I thought that was one of the more readable posts I have done in a while:lol:. Anyhow a bunch misunderstood your post about o-rings and thought you were saying to not buy high temp o-rings so I just corrected it that is all. It is all good now and we are all back on the same page.

Hey fellow Vaporers. Have an update I think some of you might like.

I have gotten the feedback which I needed to go ahead and make up a small quantity for a first line run of the total PA solution.
A small glitch was un-covered and has been corrected and tested. I will make up 15 packages which will be completed in about a week or a little longer.

These packages will each contain:

1ea. 12 volt 5 amp. power supply with US wall plug
1ea. corded step down regulator (12v to 8v, 3 amp. max)
1ea. corded car plug
2ea. size converters (2.1mm-1.7mm)
1ea. instruction sheet

Price $35 + $15 = $50 shipped.

This is the older picture I posted of a prototype unit. All is the same excepted the 2.1-1.7mm converter will be a one piece plug instead of the pig tail type. (did not feel the pig tail was rugged enough)

Complete_zps554bd314.jpg

I will accommodate the first 15 PMs and make a list for these first run units.
Once these units have been shipped and I get my processes better streamlined, more units will follow. If I find I can lower the price, I will of course reimburse the first line buyers the difference.

To recap this PA solution, it is a total package which allows charging or PA use from either home or car. PA in car a feature never offered before that I know of. Although, I think Tim's up to something here too. :)
Using a single 12 volt 5 amp supply for the charger has enough current that when the voltage is lowered with an external "step down regulator" to the needed 8, volts it operates the Solo in PA mode. This same step down can also be used in the car with included car adapter.
Very simple really and we all like simple. Will, at least I do.
Taking the step down in and out of the wire path changes between PA and charger operations and the cables will only go together one way so no mistakes possible.

Not looking for money at this time, just commitments. I will communicate further once list is in place.

Sooo close now.....

Yer welcome. The reason it gave you a number 7 flash then no lights was it was showing you the battery was completely discharged as far as the Solo was concerned. Reading empty. No lights. Not a good time to try a first session or two before charging.

Yes, you want to charge it, watching the lights light one after the other, until they're all lit and the charge LED stops flashing. For maximum battery life (in total cycles) you might stop when the 6th or 7th LED lights (not charge it all the way to the top) most testing of these sorts of batteries so an overall longer life (more cycles) with a little less capacity on each cycle. I ran some numbers earlier on that lead me to believe I was looking at a 20% decrease in capacity (one less session?) but a near doubling of cycles.

Keep it reasonably charged and you should enjoy long and trouble free service, just don't let it get too low and consider some self restraint on the recharge ending, in theory it can pay off big. Getting that last few mAh out to get big numbers helps sales, and replacement sales.....

Regards.

Gee, first we finally get OF a solo then you and this shit blows up with all kinds of fun stuff. This is the perfect solution to a long time problem.

Lady, I'm glad you're accepting responsibility for all this. We all knew it was your fault, but weren't sure you'd understand.....especially so easily. I think I speak for all involved when I say 'we sure are glad we got past that one so easy'.

I agree with you, Pipes is doing a great service to the FC family here. Building and testing the units, rounding up the other parts to make the package and trying to keep the end user cost low so we can all buy more false drugs with the saved bucks. Hopefully Tim will be following along in due time with his version on the theme.....meaning yet more options for Members.

What a place!

Hi All ,Just wanted to tell all what a great service Planet Vape did for me.I ordered 2 PVHES gongs and since my 1st one i had committed suicide and hit the tile floor with in 1 hours work out with the Solo,I gave them a call and after 2 weeks they arrived today:love:

They made my GonGs 1.5 "longer than the standard issue, they didnt charge for the extra glass and to top it off they packaged em in the travel tubes. If any one ever wants a longer GonG (no not dong, you'll have to see the plastic surgi for that:D).... they told me its actually easier to make em longer, as a matter of fact, they're all standard length and then PV shortens em up.So if your finding em a little too warm or just too small for baseball glove size hands , give them a shout,They were great and throwing in the little extras shows some appreciation towards their customers.
Good Job PV and thanks for the chips too:cheers:.

PV's good folks for sure. They've gone 'above and beyond' for me more than once. Not to mention little things like selling Doob Tubes, Silicone rings and other stuff we ask for. And mixing Omicron carts and still giving box prices. And all the little extras they include from time to time (I still fondly remember my first Omicorn V1 order coming with the Wilton funnel loading tool (before D9 made theirs) for cart loading. They even included a little envelope of the right size toothpicks (necessary with that loading technique).

Very fast shipping and free chips instead of Styrofoam noodles.......

They've got a lot of my money over the years, and stand to get more in the future.
