I just got my persei a few days ago and am having some trouble getting my first 5.0ohm cart to prime. I've been using a 2.4ohm cart on Gpen for a couple months, so I have SOME experience. I was sure that the cart was nice and warm before melting the load down, so I'm fairly sure it's not just stalled out. I've even reheated the cart up a couple times hoping it was just stalled out, and still has no primed. I feel the 5ohm cart is just not getting very warm at all on 3.7v, after holding the button for 6 seconds the cart isn't even noticeable warmer. I'm not sure if my cart is defective or if this is normal, I charged my battery up thinking maybe it was just a bit flat. The wax i used was pretty stable, almost taffy like consistency. Was mostly blonde/amber in color, and did okay on the foil test. I know taffy isn't the best for these carts, but it's all i have other than some lower quality and thinner oil.

Any ideas? Should I just try reheating my cart again and continue trying to prime it or just dump the cart?

I use 2 x 18350 = 7.4V for a 5.0 cart!
Only loaded cart never dry!

Oh, I said tongue and cheek - It was a joke. No worries. I'm a big boy. yes a lot of good info there. As I said 392 pages and no way I'm reading it all. In fact I didn't want to read the whiners. They have no value to me. I wanted real technical info.

At least give me some credit here. I have figured this out in a day. Loaded and primed 8 carts w/o an issue.

I don't fit your model of the posts you state....

Not using budder or shatter. BHO only and honeycomb.

planetvape.ca states expected shipment on 5/31/2013 for them... be patient cause there will be a mad rush for them. Like a Iphone :D

Glad we're clear.

I'm not saying you don't deserve credit or that you do. I notice you saying things like "$600 for $20 dollars of parts" and that the unit is "primitive" for it's pricing, those are very much things that the average disgruntled new user says.

I do agree with your assessment that the base unit could use work, although, contrary to what was said, there have been changes to the unit since release last year. New Persei tops have come out (I believe they are serialized and come with, at least, some kind of safe circuitry). However, what I feel we're really paying for is the intellectual properties that went behind this system and the fact that this base unit has all those attachments that work only with it. I hope you're doing okay with the Nibbler X and Bender, they're great.

As to your statement on "figuring this thing out in a day." The worst thing about being a new Persei user is that you don't know what you're looking for in performance unless you have a buddy or family member who's got one going well. For the time being, congrats on getting those carts working. Just keep in mind that while they work, you still might not have them in the optimal condition. Few carts down the line, you'll have it and you'll know it, or else they'll just be the same, in which case, you've always had it.

To the consistency issue: budder and shatter are both types of BHO whose differences occur in the finishing stages of making errl, so when someone says either of the two they mean to ask if you whipped your errl 'til it was a buddery consistency, purge and winterize to a shatter, etc. You did mention Honeycomb, and that is a great consistency for these carts. Stay away from the taffy, hard shatter, or runny oil states. And again, .5 per cart, use til they're at .2, refill to .5 or .6.

Lastly, I really wish the PlanetVape ship date was completely accurate, but the last date they had posted, 4/30/13, didn't see the release. It may just be an interim date changed constantly until the actual release is known. Hopefully G replies with some progress reports on the new heater cores. We'll probably know about it here before it posts to PlanetVape.

Priming 5 ohm on 3.7v is pretty easy. You can hold it down for a while longer than 6 seconds. Try 10-15, while feeling the cart. It really shouldn't get hot enough at 3.7v to do any damage.

Using taffy and shatter takes a little more effort and patience. What you can do to help the priming stage: assuming the cart is still good, is to warm around the center one more time and pull very lightly from the bottom of the cart. There should be a bit of air displacement and you'll feel the base of the cart get warmer as the wax oozes down with the help of your suction.

You may have to prime each session since those consistencies are harder for the bulk heater to melt down and feed in to the wick. Good news is, 5 ohm is the best cart for these since they get the hottest.

Good luck.

??? Never said "$600 for $20 dollars of parts"
What I said is
1: I spent $600.
2. $20 of parts are broken - .i.e. the 18650 and the 18350

Never, never never said the Persei is $20 of parts - Not sure why you combine the two - stoned maybe?
Please don't lump me into that crowd. I gave real technical information to defend my statements and objectivity reviewed it. {edit: removed over-action... sorry}

Also I said yes the Persei has improvements, but they are reliability and manufacturing improvements - lets not call the new Persei top a design improvement. It adds no new features. Its simply makes it more robust.
I'm talking for real feature improvement - hence the Cicso reference. Not sure you understand my point.

We will continue to disagree here. While the base is well built and solid - electronically is primitive and such its primitive. It puts all the effort on the user's back - the very fact that you state "average disgruntled user" and the 20,000 posts here - I rest my case!!! Having complete power is great for the advance users, but for the average user it is not. If it was we would still be programming in micro code.

Yes that's the best description for the Persei - using it is like programming in assembly language.

I want C++!

I think I have been fair and objective. Accurately stated both good and improvement points. Overall its a step forward and I'm keeping it. We can go around and around on this, but its all good.

Vape away guys.

BTW I understand Budder/shatter. Guess when I state BHO I don't mean budder and the like. I don't do that. My stuff is more like honeycomb. The easiest stuff so far is Blue City Diesel BHO.

Postscript - THC S guys have handled the situation as OF/Atomsk said they would. I stand corrected here and give them there due respect the deserve. Thank You.

"Not until it's properly primed" is the general advice here I think? If it won't make vapor with 3.7 it will burn up at 7.4 with no oil to cool it........

OF
I meant 0.55 grams of WAX not DRY!
0.2 when I'm down to about 0.3 grams on the reload.
I never run a cart dry!

Are we talking about the same thing boss? I was responding to your advice to run it at 7.4 Volts since it was five Ohms......or at least that's what I thought. I was saying 'don't do that until it's properly primed at 3.7 Volts (no matter what the load is)?

I hope you don't think you're just being retaliated against by a group of fanboys.

The truth of the matter is, so many people come in this thread complaining and worried that they've spent too much on a product that doesn't work. In all that negative rage, they say a lot of stuff about how they could have made this product, or how they've been ripped off buying a rebranded e-cig.

Then a few helpful posts and some experimentation later, they're always back with thanks.

There's a lot of contributors here who have helped hundreds of people with complaints a lot like yours, I mean, it's a 392 page thread. So if you feel like this is a well rehearsed backlash, it's because it is. But don't think that it was all made for you, this is a year and a half of answering the same question, offering the same advice, and hearing the same old shtick from newbies to Persei.

I was there before. A lot of us were.

Get some good batteries, the right consistency concentrate (you said yours was "thick", if you mean budder, that's great for the Omicarts, if you mean shatter, you'll have a hard time), and keep refining your technique (the wet napkin thing doesn't work so well compared to never reaching that temperature. the seals you're trying to keep from overheating are inside), and I'm confident that you'll be so medicated you'll soon forget all this start-up trouble.

Good luck.

Edit:

The Iris is a variable voltage Persei top that you can use to adjust voltage & read cart levels. It's a lot like the Vamo in that sense, except that you can, if you have enough Persei tubes, put a lot more battery behind it. Imagine 2-3 18650's running at 3.7v. You'd never run out of power and would look like you're wielding a light-saber hilt.

I don't think you are a bunch of fan boys. I never think people are that, there actions may be that at times. I try not to judge people only actions. Actions can change and are not (hopefully) for ever.

I understand your point and I have seen that in many threads. However, I'm not really complaining about that or actually nothing except getting bad batteries and the frustration of not having them to use it. That is a transit thing which I already solved. I readily came up the learning curve. The Persei 100% met my 100% expectations so if I was not clear - IT DOES.

I have zero issue using it, never did. I still think my Micro-G matches it to 90%. The advantage here is the 1G cart. Actually, loading, priming and use is straight forward. The posts here are accurate. It makes patience and careful operation. Like their site says - finely tuned operation my the user. It rewards you, but the average user it would be problematic at least for a while.

If I have not been clear Let me go on record here - If one wants a heavy C vape - it is what one should buy. Sure I am trying the eGo MOD, but I would still buy the Persei - why because its important to support THC S. Its like OF says the CART is their IP, they designed and did the NRE on their nickle. Also they are working on a base unit to match. The changed the game and spent capitol to do that. One must respect that and support it.

That said - there is always constructive feedback and calling it how it is. Now that I understand what the Iris is I am delighted. It is what I was suggesting what it could be, i.e. the evolution of the proto. I knew what the Persei was before I bought it so that wasn't my point.

Some of the feedback I have received is of the impression I was calling everyone a whiner, arrogantly stating I wouldn't read all 392 pages because of the whiners and they had little value. Many drank kool aid etc. And I really should ask please when I ask something. That I am the pot calling the stove black - i.e. I'm the whiner. I am paraphrasing a bit.

My point of view - maybe it will explain my posts more.

1. If someone states something w/o actual data to back up their opinion I will ask for that data unless I know and trust them.

2. If they don't respond, I will be suspect of the accuracy of their opinion. It still may be valid, but I question it. This does not mean I am suggesting dishonesty, only there is lack of data.

3. I reserve the right to be cynical and maybe sarcastic if I question one's opinion, but not to attack the person or put them down.

4. Finally its real easy to miss understand the written word for everyone especially due to #3 above :D

Wasn't trying to put anybody down, be arrogant, call peoples integrity into question or call them dishonest, nor did I think the Persei doesn't work. I am concerned there is major miscommunication here - me included.

Well after 4 months of no luck and lack luster support on the hercules I get a call from G today telling me that my hercs is defective. Unfortunately none are in stock but I guess my persei is back on its way to me.....

I'm glad to be getting my Persei back but still no Herc.

G you make cool stuff but I don't want to be a PAID beta tester for your stuff. Especially since when it doesn't work you blame the user when in fact the problem is yours.

I'm disappointed in THC Scientific at the moment. I can sympathize with the issues but the 4 months response time I cannot.

damn sorry to hear that man. i can only imagine the frustration.
So are they going to send you a herc 2 once they are out?
Or are they just going to refund you your money?

Edit: Nice collection by the way. I only have the persei and a few attachments. I took my first vape hit off an e-cig in february and wondered if it would work with wax. Typed in my question on the internet and found out about the trippy stick. After some looking i decided the persei seemed like the smarter investment out of all the rest. I had planned on expanding my collection, but i find that with all the persei attachments it could be a good while before i get bored and start looking for a change.

You're fine. If I had chalked you up to the whiner's list, I wouldn't still be trying to give you advice. I understand the position of being new to a company, making a big investment, and being let down by some starting snag. Like I said, I was there before.

No, not stoned, just the phrasing and structure of your post made it seem like the new paragraph was in a separate vein of thought from the previous one, making your first sentence of that next paragraph, " I spent $600 and we are talking about less than $20 worth of parts,"
sound like a stand alone statement. Refer to your #4. No hard feelings here.

You are being fair and objective, but I wonder what improvements to design you might suggest to take D9 from the primitive to the cutting edge? A variable voltage would have been great from the start, as would the option to change button modes instead of having to buy a Hammer Top.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Yeah, this whole Herc mishap has been hurting everyone. Sorry you were part of the first wave, did you send in your Herc unit to D9 and now have no Herc unit? It's my understanding that the first gen Herc users were sent updated parts and will be the first to receive the new product.

From the point of view of someone who wasn't able to pick up a Herc when it first came out, I'm actually jealous of you guys. Sure, you had a flopped release, but there was the 50% discount and the extra Herc with updated pieces that you can play with. Does indeed sound like you payed half price to be a beta tester.

Unlike many here my herc never worked, rather than asked to be returned I was told to wait and be patient. even after a long skype call with G where he instructed and watched and got no results. Never told to return the unit. Finally took action and cleaned and sent it whole rig + batteries to THC about 2 weeks ago to send it back cause obviously I was just gonna sit and wait despite texts, pm's, emails and phone calls. Evidently other users have herc's that make real vape. mine does not. 60 seconds solid on the button with fresh battery and virtually nothing. The other unit G sent me doesn't even get hot. 0/2 on the 7.4v's for me.

We had the discussion about beta testing and lets just say thats not how it was painted at the time. THe videos don't lie. It at least makes clouds for many. It never did for me. Why it took 4 months of BS telling me I wasn't using it right rather than ask for the unit back only G can answer.

From what I know, no one was ever made to send in their Herc. Just to hold on. Then about a month and a half ago D9 was sending out the replacement pieces to anyone who made a claim number. Did you hop on that wave?

Also, did you try the priming process before loading it? friedbanana re-posted it a few pages back:

I have the 7.4 hercules and i was told to clean it out and perform the breaking in process. I dont know if the same exact process applies to the 3.7v hercules but here it is:
After an iso cleaning and boiling of certain parts of the hercules and drying, you want to attach the hercules to the persei with good batts you perform the breaking in process
(1) hold the button down blue for 30 seconds
(2) let it cool down for a minute. (perform steps 1 and 2 5times)
then you're hercules should be good to go.
I use mine with mostly oils, but works just fine with kush flowers.
I remember having very similar problems as to what you're experiencing yourself, but after breaking it in and with time and repeated use ive found the hercules to perform faster and more on point. Im happy with it now and it delivers vapors within 15 seconds and thats with oils which takes even higher temperatures to vape than herb.

Really sorry to be hearing about your troubles, especially when you brought it to the Man Himself. Definitely no fun in being an impromptu beta tester. At the very least, get your unit with replacement pieces back so you'll have the second working Hercules along with the bigger badder version. Something tells me though that when the new Herc is up and running, you're a candidate for one of the first to get it.

I actually only tried my Hercules oil & flower cart once & that was with flowers, but I opted to wait like others until all the parts are updated and then send in everything instead of doing multiple shipments if anything needs sending back. I am temped to try the Hercules out with the oil tank, but the new Hercules is on the horizon, so I will just wait for that and be very happy when the day comes. Until then I'll stick with the cartridges :)

The updated Herc parts are only a new mouthpiece and heat shield. The V2 heater which was the main issue is still not out yet.
I'm also looking foreword to the V2. I have a Persei I'm not using right now. There is not enough time in the day for me to medicate effectively with the cartridges.
